Send us Fan MailEver catch yourself doing something and having the thought "I'm making this a lot harder than it really needs to be"?In this short mindful moment, I share a simple story from an ordinary household chore that sparked a much bigger insight about the ways we complicate our lives without even realizing it.From daily tasks to major life decisions, sometimes the most powerful question we can ask is:“Why am I doing it this way?”A gentle invitation to pause, reflect, and consider where you might be creating unnecessary stress—and how a small shift in perspective could make everything feel a little lighter. Let’s Stay Connected:Get your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

When You're Told You're "Fat and Lazy" But It's Actually Lipoedema: This Is Chantel's Story

Send us Fan MailThis is an eye-opening episode that brings awareness to a condition that is not very well known and often confused with being overweight. Chantel, a Registered Nurse married to a doctor, suffered with Lipoedema from her teenage years but wasn't diagnosed until her mid-thirties. Throughout these years she was subject to comments from "you've really let yourself go" to unhelpful advice like "you just need to lose weight", sadly often from health professionals. Eventually she discovered the name of the condition she was suffering from when she googled "cankles" and was confronted with images that mirrored her own body. In this heartfelt episode Chantel bravely tells us her story and sheds light on what this condition is, what it is like living with it and how to recognise and treat it. If you or someone you know has carried painful fat in the legs, and possibly the arms, that doesn't appear in the hands and feet and you've never put a name to it - or you're just interested in what it must be like to live with this condition - you'll want to listen to this episode.Let’s Stay Connected:Get your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Because Walking Is Great but It's Not Enough in Midlife: Keeping Muscle & Bone Strong With Damien Crettenden

Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with local Exercise Physiologist, Damien Crettenden, for a conversation every midlife woman needs to hear. From somewhere around 40 we start to naturally lose muscle and this process will continue unless we do something about it. Only 8% of Australian women are doing what it takes to maintain their muscles. But muscle isn't the whole story. We also lose bone strength as we age and in fact this process is accelerated around the final menstrual period when we lose bone faster than any other time in our lives. In this episode, we unpack what you really need to know about maintaining muscle and bone health in midlife. So, if you’ve ever wondered: “Is walking and Pilates enough?”  “Should I avoid weights because of joint pain?”  “What does a safe and effective strength program even look like?” "Where can I go for help?""Should I be seeing an exercise physiologist?"…this episode will give you clarity. We talk about why strength training becomes non-negotiable in midlife—not from a place of fear, but from a place of empowerment. You’ll learn how it supports bone health (including osteoporosis prevention), improves joint pain and function (yes, even with osteoarthritis), and helps you feel stronger, more capable, and more confident in your body.Damien also breaks down what an Exercise Physiology professional actually does, and why having the right guidance can make all the difference—especially if you’re feeling unsure where to start. This is a grounded, practical, and reassuring conversation with someone who truly meets women where they’re at.If you’re ready to move beyond confusion, fear, or “just walking more”… this episode is for you.Let’s Stay Connected:Sign up for the upcoming free live talk HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: What Are You Making It Mean?

Send us Fan MailHave you ever had a moment where something small completely derailed your mood… and you weren’t even sure why?In this week’s episode I'm getting uncomfortably vulnerable to give a real-life example of how to use one of my favourite mind management tools. In this episode I'm sharing a real-life moment from my Easter weekend that left me feeling hurt, embarrassed, and unexpectedly emotional—and how I used this simple but powerful mindset tool to shift myself out of it within minutes. We talk a lot about how our thoughts create our feelings… but this episode takes it one step deeper.Because often, it’s not just the circumstance or even the thought that’s causing the pain— it’s what we’re making that thought or circumstance mean.Inside this episode, I walk you through: Why strong emotional reactions are actually a signal (not a problem)  The powerful question that can instantly change how you feel  How to challenge the meaning your brain is assigning to a situation You’ll hear exactly how I unpacked a thought in the moment to uncover the deeper belief that was actually causing the hurt. And most importantly, how I shifted it.We can’t always control what happens. We can’t control what other people think. But we can question the meaning we give it.And that is where your power is.If you’ve ever found yourself spiraling over something small… or carrying around feelings that don’t quite make sense…This episode will give you a practical tool you can use immediately.Takeaway to reflect on:👉 What am I making this mean… and is that actually true?Let’s Stay Connected:Register your interest for the Wellbeing program HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: Leaning In Instead of Quitting (My Personal Story)

Send us Fan MailOver the past week I’ve had some disappointments, heavy stressors, and moments where my brain told me it would be easier to just quit.“You’re failing.”“This is too much.”“Why are you even trying?”Instead of hiding that — or pretending I’ve mastered my mind — I’m sharing what it actually looked like to self-coach through it in real time.In this Mindful Moment, I walk you through:What my brain offered me during a challenging weekThe temptation to pull back from self-care when life feels overwhelmingHow I distinguish between true rest and avoidanceThe non-negotiables I protect to maintain balanceWhy emotional stress quietly drains your energyThe small, grounded decisions that kept me moving forward instead of spirallingThis isn’t about perfection. It’s about practising what we preach. It’s about leaning into self-care, balance, and structure — especially when it would feel easier to withdraw. If you’ve been tempted to quit on yourself lately, I hope this personal story reminds you that you can learn to self-coach through hard weeks — and come out stronger, steadier, and more grounded on the other side.Let’s Stay Connected:Register your interest for the Wellbeing program HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Hair Loss & Menopause: Why It Happens and What You Can Do About It

Send us Fan MailHair loss affects nearly half of women at some point in their lives — and for many of us, it can feel deeply distressing. In this episode of Opt to Thrive, I’m unpacking hair loss in women — especially during midlife and the menopausal transition — and explaining what’s really going on beneath the surface.Because while menopause can absolutely play a role, hair loss is not always “just hormones.” Sometimes it can be a sign that something else is happening in your body — from thyroid dysfunction and iron deficiency to medication effects or other underlying health conditions. In this episode, we cover:• Why hair loss can feel so emotionally impactful (and why that matters)• The red flags that mean you should see your GP• The two most common causes of hair loss in midlife women:– Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL)– Telogen Effluvium• How stress, illness, dieting, surgery and psychological distress can trigger shedding• What’s happening in the hair growth cycle• How menopause and declining oestrogen affect hair follicles• Whether menopause hormone therapy (MHT) helps• The difference between micronised progesterone and synthetic progestins• Practical treatment options including minoxidil and when specialist input may be neededWe also talk about how to recognise when shedding is temporary — and when it may be progressive — and why getting the diagnosis right matters.Hair loss is not “vain” or trivial. Research shows it can significantly affect confidence, relationships, and even career performance. That’s exactly why it deserves thoughtful, evidence-based discussion. If you’ve noticed thinning, increased shedding, or changes in your hair during midlife, this episode will help you understand what might be happening — and what you can do about it.As always, if something in this episode resonates with you or raises concerns, please speak with your GP.And if there’s a topic you’d love me to cover next, send me a message — I love hearing from you 💛Let’s Stay Connected:Register your interest for the Wellbeing program HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: Feeling Better vs Letting Yourself Feel

Send us Fan MailIn this short Mindful Moment episode, I’m sharing a story from a recent family dinner — where a simple conversation question led to a much deeper reflection on emotions, thoughts, grief, and what it really means to “feel our feelings.”One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in life is that our feelings are created by our thoughts — but as I discovered while talking with my son, that idea can sometimes be misunderstood. There are emotions we are meant to feel — grief, sadness, heartbreak, disappointment — especially in times of loss. Those feelings are not problems to be solved or avoided. They are part of being human, and they need space to be processed. But there is also another kind of suffering — the unnecessary pain created by unhelpful or untrue thoughts, rumination, self-criticism, and the stories our brains tell when they run on autopilot. In this episode, I reflect on:• the difference between necessary emotional pain and unnecessary suffering• why resisting uncomfortable feelings often makes them stronger• how grief and sadness need to be allowed — sometimes only a little at a time• the seductive pull of “wallowing” days and familiar sad music• how confirmation bias can spiral a bad day into overwhelm• why acceptance can ease suffering — even when circumstances can’t change• gentle ways to get curious about the thoughts underneath emotional discomfortAnd I share a few simple questions you can ask yourself when a dark-cloud day appears:• What am I feeling — and can I allow it instead of fighting it?• What thought might be contributing to this feeling?• Is that thought true… and is it helpful?• Is there a kinder, more compassionate thought available to me right now? Some days we can shift perspective. Some days we simply sit with the feeling and let it soften with time. Both are okay. 💛If you’ve ever had one of those heavy days where nothing is “wrong,” but your mood just feels flat, tender, or heavy — this episode is for you.Let’s Stay Connected:Get your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Send us Fan MailIf you’ve ever found yourself losing weight… only to gain it back again, this episode is for you.So many midlife women feel frustrated, disheartened, and convinced that something is “wrong” with them — especially when the strategies that once worked suddenly stop working. But the truth is, it’s not a lack of willpower. And it’s not your fault. In this episode, I share the personal and professional journey that helped me finally step off the yo-yo dieting cycle — and why midlife is often the turning point that forces us to do things differently. We explore why repeated dieting can quietly erode muscle, energy, and confidence, and why sustainable weight loss in midlife requires more than just adjusting calories or exercise. I break down the often-missing component that keeps pulling women back to the start line — mindset — and why without addressing it, lasting change is almost impossible. You’ll hear about:Why the “temporary mindset” keeps you stuck in the lose–gain cycleHow restriction and deprivation set us up for overeating and burnoutWhat it really means to build a healthier relationship with foodThe concept of an energy budget — and how it creates freedom rather than restrictionWhy consistency doesn’t mean perfection (and why 80/20 works)How motivation is created through clarity, belief, and small steps — not waiting for a sparkThis episode is about hope, self-trust, and learning how to work with your midlife body rather than fighting it.If you’re tired of starting over and ready to understand what actually works now — this conversation may be exactly what you need.Let’s Stay Connected:Replay recent webinar (limited time only): Make This the Year You Lose The Weight for the Last time.Find out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: The Midlife Happiness Formula

Send us Fan MailThis week’s episode started with a simple quote I first heard as an intern on my psychiatry rotation:“The secret to happiness is having something to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to.”It’s a line that has quietly guided me through many stages of life — and recently, it sent me down an unexpected rabbit hole into women’s history, old medical thinking, and a surprising discovery about where the quote actually came from.Join me as I explore why this little phrase has stood the test of time, what it reveals about our emotional wellbeing in midlife, and how it can help you check in with yourself when you feel a little out of sorts. And yes… there’s a story involving a 177-year-old book, a fascinating lecture series, some rather “creative” 1800s medical practices, and a reminder of just how far women’s health has come.At the end, I’ll invite you to do your own gentle inventory:Do you have something to do? The Power of a Midlife Reset - How Jo Got Her Mojo Back!

Send us Fan MailIn today’s episode, I’m joined by one of my founding members — Jo — for a powerful and uplifting conversation about what can happen when a midlife woman decides she’s ready for more strength, more energy, and more knowledge. At 56, Jo joined The Midlife Reset thinking she wanted to do something purely for herself and her body. Strength training was not something she had ever done before and she was getting message loud and clear - keeping muscle strong protects our health and our bones! What she didn’t really appreciate before joining was just how much strength she’d quietly lost over the years — and how quickly it could come back with the right support.Jo is an avid skier, and the year before she’d struggled with a knee strain and limited energy on the slopes. This season, after incorporating focused strength work into her weekly routine and optimising nutrition that actually supported her body… she skied the best she had since her 30s. Stronger and faster with more endurance. And she didn’t think that was even possible. Her energy, recovery, and resilience improved too — both on the snow and in everyday life. And through learning more about what really happens to our bodies in midlife, Jo felt empowered to seek further care and advocate for herself with her local doctor. She also spoke about how meaningful it was to be part of a group of like-minded women — seeing their progress, cheering each other on, and feeling she wasn’t alone in what she was experiencing. Now, 4.5 months on, Jo is continuing to build strength, has made movement a consistent part of her life, and is feeling the changes in her body composition (including around the midsection) in a way that feels encouraging and sustainable. Her story is such a beautiful reminder that midlife isn’t an ending — it’s a turning point.Tune in to hear Jo’s journey, the surprises along the way, and the sparks of confidence she didn’t expect to rediscover.Doors Opening Again SoonI’ll be opening the doors to a new group of the Midlife Reset in January. If you’d like to learn more or join the waitlist click HERELet’s Stay Connected:Join the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official website

Send us Fan MailSpring is springing here in Australia — while for many of my listeners on the other side of the world, fall is falling. These seasonal shifts always get me reflecting on cycles of growth, change, and what needs to be cleared away.On today’s episode of Opt to Thrive, I share a story from our property about weeds, fruit trees, and even a plant called Pigface (yes, really!) — and the surprising lesson they hold for us in midlife.Just like our pomegranate trees flourished once the weeds stopped stealing their water and nutrients, we too can lose our vibrancy when surrounded by people or situations that constantly drain us. Beyond the Scale: Strength and Confidence

Send us Fan MailWhat if the number on the scale wasn’t the most important measure of your health? In this episode, I share a powerful conversation from inside the very first round of my Midlife Reset program. As we near the end of our 12 weeks together, the women took it upon themselves to reflect on why they joined and what they’ve gained. Their words moved me deeply — and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. You’ll hear themes that so many of us in midlife can relate to:✨ Breaking free from yo-yo dieting and confusion✨ Discovering the strength and energy that comes from fueling with purpose✨ Realising the scale is just data - NOT some of the other things we tie it to✨ The confidence that grows when your body feels stronger and healthier✨ The importance of connection and community during life’s transitionsThis isn’t about chasing numbers. Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment - His Dirty Laundry

Send us Fan MailHave you ever found yourself in midlife looking around and thinking… is this really it?In this episode of Opt to Thrive, I share a story many of us will find uncomfortably familiar — a woman who worked tirelessly for her family, on the property, in her job, and in her home, only to arrive in midlife feeling resentful, unseen, and unappreciated. Her story opens up a bigger conversation about what was modeled for us growing up, how those patterns can follow us into our own relationships, and what it means when we finally stop to question them. We’ll talk about the weight of invisible labour, the baggage of generational roles, and the resentment that can build when gratitude and affection are absent. But we’ll also explore creative ways women are finding solutions, compromises, and sometimes even humour, in the everyday balancing act of domestic life.If you’ve ever felt the sting of being taken for granted, if you’ve ever wondered how much of your life has been shaped by “the way things have always been done,” or if you just need a reminder that you’re not alone in navigating these messy midlife dynamics — this episode is for you.💛 Because sometimes it’s not about throwing the baby out with the bathwater… it’s about finding a way to clean up the water (especially when someone keeps making a mess of it).Let’s Stay Connected:Join the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteJoin the Midlife Reset Program priority list: HereIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

And more importantly — how do we keep it going once life (and menopause) throws its curveballs? In today’s episode, I share:Why building momentum in midlife can feel like pushing a heavy, square ball uphill (and why it sometimes rolls back over us!).The groundwork you need to lay first — sleep, stress, and self-compassion — before expecting big changes. The five key pillars that influence midlife body composition: sleep, stress, nutrition, resistance & cardio exercise, and daily movement. Why small wins are the secret sauce to building momentum. How to choose your “lowest hanging fruit” and start in a way that feels doable, not overwhelming.Practical tips to build confidence and consistency with exercise and nutrition, including realistic workout planning and protein targets that protect muscle. If you’ve been feeling stuck, frustrated with midlife weight gain, or just struggling to get started, this episode will help you take back control — one realistic step at a time.✨ Links & Resources:Related episodes: Episode 7: 8 Top Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep & Episode 6: 5 Easy Ways to Manage StressJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Find out more about the Midlife Reset Program: Here

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment - Stay Out of Their Thought Bubble

Send us Fan MailToday we’re diving into a thought error that causes so many of us unnecessary stress and suffering: mind reading. On the one hand, being able to pick up on social cues is an important life skill. None of us wants to be that person who completely misses when someone is trying to wrap up a conversation or isn’t in the mood to hear about our dog because they’ve just lost theirs. But there’s a fine line between reading cues and sliding into mind reading — and that’s where things get messy.Mind reading happens when we assume we know what someone else is thinking or feeling, and we treat those assumptions as fact. Most of the time, these assumptions are negative, inaccurate, and a direct cause of anxiety or conflict. In contrast, reading social cues means simply noticing what’s observable — body language, tone of voice, or context — and leaving room for curiosity and other explanations. In this episode, I’ll share my favourite “thought bubble” analogy for spotting when we’ve wandered into someone else’s head and started making up stories. I’ll also talk about my own experiences (like with my husband when he needs processing time) and how easy it is to climb into someone’s thought bubble and stir up trouble that was never there. You’ll learn:The difference between healthy cue-reading and harmful mind readingWhy mind reading fuels unnecessary anxiety and conflictHow my “thought bubble” analogy can help you catch yourself before you spiralA simple thought-challenging exercise you can use when you feel stuck in assumptionsHow staying in your own bubble gives you clarity, control, and a lot more peaceThe first step is awareness: noticing when you’ve crept into someone else’s thought bubble. Once you catch it, you get to choose to step out — and protect yourself from unnecessary stress.Tune in to learn how to stay in your own bubble (and out of everyone else’s).Let’s Stay Connected:Register for the upcoming Free 6 Day Midlife Reset ChallengeJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr.

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment - The Art of Holding Space

Send us Fan MailHave you ever shared something painful, only to have the other person jump straight into problem-solving—or worse, point out the silver lining? Sometimes, when we’re hurting, the last thing we want is a “fix.” What we really need is connection. In this episode, I open up about my own struggle with learning how to hold space for others. As a doctor and a natural problem-solver, my first instinct has always been to offer solutions. But outside of my professional role, that isn’t always what’s needed—or welcome. Holding space means being fully present, listening without judgment, and resisting the urge to fix, minimize, or redirect someone’s pain.Whether you’re naturally good at this or, like me, still learning, this episode will give you a fresh perspective on what it really means to show up for the people you love.Let’s Stay Connected:Join the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteJoin the Midlife Reset Program priority list: HereIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who needs to hear this message.🫶
