SelfKind: Conversations in self-care, kindness and compassion for highly sensitive people
by Erica Webb
Hi and welcome to SelfKind with me, Erica Webb. This is a podcast for Highly Sensitive People (HSP) who want to navigate the tricky bits of their sensitivity with more ease, while finding their sensitivity super powers. Here, we're all about being, living and moving through a lens of self compassion and kindness. As your host, I meet you as a fellow HSP. I know what it's like to feel like things are too loud, too bright and just ... too much. In my work as a registered counsellor and mindful movement coach, I've supported myself and my clients to find ways to embrace their sensitivity that centre on self-compassion, nervous system regulation, self-awareness and, ultimately, self-love. From mindfulness, mindful movement, joy seeking and a zillion and one practices in between, here you'll find space to be fully you - fully human - and the tools to navigate the tricky bits of having a highly sensitive nervous system. I’m thrilled y

Ep 329: The myth of balance: the tension between structure and freedom in highly sensitive people
As a highly sensitive person, have you ever felt torn between the need for structure and the desire for freedom? Structure can make you feel safe with the predictability it offers ... except when your energy or interest doesn't match your schedule! This internal conflict can often leave us Highly Sensitive types feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to proceed. In this episode of SelfKind, a podcast for Highly Sensitive People, I'm exploring this tension and why it can show up. You will hear:- Why, as a Highly Sensitive Person you might equally love and feel repelled by structure and discipline- Why your fluctuating energy levels don't always align with your schedule (and how that can bring challenges)- The impact of emotional overwhelm when you feel like you're failing at achieving all the things you need to do - How people pleasing shows up in trying to navigate your time and schedule- Why it's so important to 'adjust your sails' rather than find the 'perfect' way to schedule your time. You're a Highly Sensitive Person and, lately, you're hearing more about autism and ADHD. You're wondering ... is that me? I'm I actually autistic and/or ADHD as well as highly sensitive? In this episode of the SelfKind podcast, I (your host Erica Webb) speak with clinical psychologist Brianna about what it actually feels like to be an AuDHDer - that is, someone who is both Autistic and ADHD. Ep 327: How to Introduce Signs of Safety for your Highly Sensitive Nervous System
If you're a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), your brain and nervous system is working hard to process a LOT of information. And with that information, it's making decisions: how much evidence is there that we're safe? How much evidence is there that we're under threat? One really kind thing you can do for yourself is introduce - intentionally - more signs of safety; little comforts and reminders that ground you. In this episode of SelfKind - a podcast for highly sensitive people- let's explore this idea in simple ways, by looking at personal signs of safety through objects and clothing that bring joy and comfort. Mentioned in this episode:🌿 The Thriving as a Highly Sensitive Practitioner Workshop! 🌿https://highsensitivity.com.au/thriving-as-a-highly-sensitive-practitioner/Tuesday 3rd March 2026This workshop is designed specifically for highly sensitive counsellors and practitioners who want to thrive in the industry without burning out, shrinking themselves, or trying to become someone they’re not. We’ll focus on equipping highly sensitive practitioners to be their best, most authentic selves, while learning how to truly care for the carer. You’ll build confidence to shape a career that actually suits you: your nervous system, your values, and your strengths.https://highsensitivity.com.au/thriving-as-a-highly-sensitive-practitioner/About your host, Erica WebbErica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach, yoga teacher and highly sensitive person (also diagnosed AuDHD). Ep 324: Done with resolutions? Try this instead.
Resolutions and goals can be fun ... but for highly sensitive and neurodivergent folk, they can also be another source of self-criticism when we find ourselves dropping them days after they've been set. So, what's the alternative? In this episode of SelfKind, a podcast for Highly Sensitive People, I'm sharing what I'm doing instead of making a list of resolutions for the new year. As a highly sensitive, neurodivergent woman who's kinda tired, I'm approaching this one differently by turning towards my values first. New Year marketing can be so deeply overwhelming and shaming. Let's do it differently, yeah? You'll hear: 🌿 Why all the new year marketing and pressure can feel like too much🌿 How setting goals can feel suffocating for some of us🌿 Why I choose a word for the year🌿 How truly understanding and accepting your energy levels is vital to navigating this time🌿 Why there's no one right way to do this and why finding YOUR way is the best way.About your host, Erica WebbErica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach, yoga teacher and highly sensitive person (also diagnosed AuDHD). Do you ever feel like you don't quite fit in as a Highly Sensitive Person? Maybe you compare your needs to everyone else’s and think: “Why am I like this? Why do I need so much rest? Do you feel like you overthink everything as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)? Ep 319: Is Your Job Draining You? Why the workplace can be so tricky as a Highly Sensitive Person
Are you a highly sensitive person (HSP) struggling with work? Maybe the workplace feels overwhelming, you feel broken, or you can't seem to find work that quite fits who you are? You are not alone, and you're absolutely not broken. You're sensitive ... and that sensitivity needs to be considered. In this episode, I’m answering a listener question about work as a highly sensitive person. Why do so many HSPs struggle with traditional 9-5s? Why is work sometimes draining, overwhelming or misaligned? As a highly sensitive person (and autistic ADHD counsellor), I share my own experience of burning out in corporate environments and why certain workplaces simply aren’t designed for sensory-sensitive nervous systems. Ep 315: Why “What’s Wrong With Me?” is the wrong question for healing as a highly sensitive person
Do you ever find yourself asking: “What’s wrong with me?”As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), it’s a question that might feel familiar — but it’s the wrong question to ask if you want to heal, grow, and thrive. In this episode of SelfKind with me, Erica Webb, I share why shifting from “What’s wrong with me?” to “What do I need to feel supported?” changes everything. Using the example of my (slightly unruly!) Monstera plant, I’ll show you how support — not self-blame — is the foundation for self-care, self-love, and resilience as an HSP.💡 You’ll learn:🌿 Why the “what’s wrong with me” mindset keeps HSPs stuck in self-criticism.🌿 The powerful reframe: “What supports me right now?”🌿 Simple, everyday supports that help HSPs thrive (movement, rest, environment, self-talk).🌿 How to notice what you really need instead of defaulting to self-blame.🌿 A gentle reminder: you’re not broken, you just need the right supports.Whether you’re struggling with overwhelm, anxiety, or feeling “different” in an insensitive world, this conversation will help you shift your perspective and meet yourself with kindness.⭐️ About your host, Erica WebbErica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach, yoga teacher and highly sensitive person (also diagnosed AuDHD). Ep 314: The swooping bird: Lessons in self-protection and physical tension for the Highly Sensitive Person
Do you ever feel like you’re constantly on high alert as a Highly Sensitive Person? Like you’re walking through life bracing yourself for the next “swoop” of overwhelm, criticism, or overstimulation? In this episode of SelfKind (a podcast for Highly Sensitive People), join me, your host, Erica Webb, as I share a story about a swooping bird ... Yep, you read that correctly! This swooping bird - and how I responded - can teach us a powerful lesson in the way we armour up as Highly Sensitive People to protect ourselves — and why that tension often shows up as tight shoulders, sore jaws, headaches and pain. We’ll explore:✨ Why your body automatically “armours up” in stressful, complicated or overstimulating environments✨ How this protective mechanism helps — but why, when it's overgeneralised or constantly 'on' it can become dysfunctional✨ Simple, compassionate ways to create spaces and practices that allow your body to soften that armour. Feeling misaligned as a highly sensitive person? Maybe you’re following the rules but something still feels off. It's just easier to avoid overwhelming and overstimulating places, spaces, things and people as a Highly Sensitive Person, isn't it?! Well ... sometimes but not always. Chances are, you're not short of knowledge as a Highly Sensitive Person. You know all about some of the things that could support you to feel better. But sometimes? It's easier to think about them than it is to *do* them!As a Highly Sensitive Person, this makes a lot of sense. Depth of processing is your jam. Ep 296: Discovering you’re a Highly Sensitive Person & self-care in motherhood with doula Georgie Druckmann
It wasn't so long ago that Georgie learned there was a name for the way she felt ... being a Highly Sensitive Person. Maybe you've been there too? Discovering, for the first time, that there are words and experiences that are shared by others who also have this trait. That you're not actually 'too much' or 'too sensitive', but that you are a part of that minority percentage of the population who are more sensitive. Georgie found that discovery to be pivotal. And one of the biggest shifts ? An enhanced capacity to meet herself with compassion. Join me, Erica Webb, host of SelfKind, as I chat with Georgie Druckmann - doula, mother and highly sensitive person - about the impact of putting words to her high sensitivity and what we can all learn through her work as a post-partum doula. We talk about compassion, the importance of community care, and how, as Highly Sensitive People, we can navigate asking for and receiving support.About Georgie Druckmann:Georgia is a mum and postpartum (and previous) birth doula, living in Naarm/Melbourne. With her relatively recent discovery of being a HSP, many pieces of how she moves and feels in the world now make so much more sense and she can see how being HSP has made things harder at times but has also been her super power in how she nurtures others through being a doula, mother, partner and friend.Connect with Georgie:https://www.instagram.com/nurture.mummaAbout your host, Erica Webb:Erica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach and highly sensitive person. Ep 293: The #1 mistake you’re making in trying to fix your sensitivity
Highly sensitive in a world that often feels too bright, too loud, too emotional ... too much? If so, don't make this mistake ... the mistake of thinking you're the problem.Your sensitivity? It doesn't need to be fixed. So what might it need instead? In this episode of the podcast, SelfKind, join me, Erica Webb - registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach, yoga teacher and highly sensitive person - as I talk about the mistake of assuming your sensitivity is a flaw. I'm sharing three questions with you in this episode, which will hopefully spark some ideas around supporting and nurturing your sensitivity rather than shaming and blaming it.Here are those questions: grab a notebook and see what comes out of them!1. How would my sensitivity like to be loved?2. If I was going to offer my sensitivity its perfect day, what would that be? What would I do (or not do)?3. If I want my sensitivity to know that it’s not bad or in need of fixing, what would I tell it? What would I have it believe? Ep 289: Scaffold your sensitivity instead of shaming it
Being a highly sensitive person can mean that certain environments feel too loud, too bright and too much. It's easy to assume that *you* are the problem in those scenarios and that you just need to find a way to suck it up and get through it. But ... there is another way. In this episode of SelfKind join me, Erica Webb (counsellor, somatic exercise coach and HSP), as I talk about strategies to scaffold rather than shame your sensitivity. What you'll hear in this episode:- why I ended up running from the environments that overwhelmed me when I was younger (and what I'd do differently now)- the key considerations for scaffolding rather than shaming your sensitivity- why understanding your sensitivity and nervous system is key to navigating overwhelm with more skill and compassion.Mentioned in this episode: Learn about working with me in 1-1 counselling: https://www.ericawebb.com.auAdditional resources: Episode 272 of SelfKind: How can you honour your sensitivity?Episode 266 of SelfKind: Overstimulation: The HSP KryptoniteThe content I share on this platform is for informational and educational purposes only and is not intended to be a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
