Mother’s Day: Letters, Lovers, Getting Tied Up, and a Little Oracle Magic

Mother’s Day is weird. There, I said it. It’s one of those days that feels like it should be a celebration but somehow ends up being a chore—or worse, a guilt trip. In this episode, we’re not doing the cookie-cutter, Hallmark version. Instead, we’re digging into the weird, messy reality of this day: the history that went sideways, why some women are signing up for Ashley Madison the day after, and why getting tied up in Yugoslavia actually makes a lot of sense.Plus, I’ll share why I always ask for one thing on Mother’s Day—a letter—and why this year, I’m finally going to write one to my own mom. Oh, and there’s an oracle card reading to help you mother yourself—because sometimes you need more than brunch and carnations.Let’s be honest: You’re more than just what your uterus popped out. Sometimes Mother’s Day is about reclaiming yourself—cunt-warm, messy, fierce—and making space for what you actually need.0:00 – 1:00: Kicking off with why Mother’s Day feels like a weird mix of love, guilt, and obligatory brunches. 1:00 – 2:30: The OG Mother’s Day story: Anna Jarvis just wanted a day to honor her badass mom, but instead got stuck with a Hallmark holiday from hell. (Spoiler: she hated what it became.)2:30 – 4:00: Wild traditions: In parts of the former Yugoslavia, kids tie up their moms until they pay ransom in treats. Honestly, it makes more sense than breakfast in bed.4:00 – 5:30: Fun fact: The day after Mother’s Day is prime time for women signing up on Ashley Madison. Turns out the whole “let’s celebrate mom” thing sometimes leaves women wondering, “Is this it?”5:30 – 7:00: How to feel seen and loved without pretending you adore getting flowers you bought yourself. Plus, why writing a letter to yourself (or your mom) might just be the real gift.7:00 – 8:30: Oracle card time—because nothing says self-care like pulling a card and asking, “What the hell do I actually want?” Mother’s Day isn’t just about what your uterus produced. Sometimes it’s about what your brain and heart need.8:30 – 10:00: Closing thoughts: Why this day can be both annoying and meaningful, and why it’s okay to skip the whole thing if it feels like a chore. Also, maybe call your mom—or write her a letter. That’s what I’m doing this year.Join us on Discord MenopauseAnarchy leave a rating and review wherever you find this podcast.

The Great Turning: 2050 a story from ChatGpt

Late one night when I saw too many IG posts, to much news and had had it I asked ChatGpt to write a story for me. The prompt was: Predict a global good outcome, one that could happen. Right now it seems that America is falling into fascism and evil, regression into times of violence. Please write a story of prediction where equity for all people and the earth itself is preserved and humans exist and while flawed have an understanding that we are all cousins, part of the human race. Universe is conspiring for good and world leaders are replaced with thoughtful kind leaders that we look up to.

It's never too late to start having important conversations about sexuality. Parents should model healthy boundaries and relationships for their children. Discomfort around topics of sex often stems from societal taboos and should be addressed openly. Repairing relationships with children is crucial for healthy development. Media literacy is essential in today's digital age to help children navigate online content. Parents should engage in ongoing conversations about technology and its impact on youth. Creating a safe space for children to explore their bodies is important for their development. Empathy and understanding are key components of effective parenting. Basically, unedited!! This episode is all about, actually it a bit about anatomy, biology, and HRT. Inspired by Dr. Rachel Rubin. The vagina "borrowed from New Latin, going back to Latin vāgīna "scabbard, sheath," of uncertain origin" - it's the "inside part" The vulva is "akin to Sanskrit ulva womb and perhaps to Latin volvere to roll " all that you see on the outside and without any special equipment. All this is for infotainment purposes. See YOUR healthcare provider.

    Sex Nurse

**How I Became a “Sex Nurse”** When my son was in 2nd grade, he described my work as that of a “sex nurse.” Before that, he amusingly referred to it as “sex work.” I've been talking to people about sex and sexuality for a very long time. In fact, a friend reminded me that I started discussing menopause in 7th grade, and my favorite childhood book was “Where Did I Come From.” This episode offers a brief look at how I started, where I’ve been, and what I hope to continue doing, including this podcast. I mention the “People’s Book of Human Sexuality,” which you can find at any bookseller or through this link. Additionally, here's an old blog post about being a sex nurse. There’s a whole ass blog on my website.  Finally, if you are going through the menopause transition and want to work with me, check out the MenoCircle—a personalized approach with community care and six months of 1:1 support.

Courtney Brame finds the positive in HERPES.

Why talk about herpes in a show about aging? Because it’s so common! You DEFINITELY know someone with a cold sore, if that someone isn't you. According to the WHO “An estimated 3.7 billion people under age 50 (67%) globally have herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection, the main cause of oral  herpes.”  Then, what does this mean for those of us already in our 50s and beyond, those understanding their Agelust through expanding their experience, maybe divorce, or dating? The question is how can we even reframe herpes as a gift, one not offered or asked for, but rather one that helps to bring one closer to one's body, to their nervous system.  With this 'gift', Courtney Brame has taken it and turned it into a positive impact on the world.  Courtney W. Brame is a sexual and mental health advocate for people struggling with their positive herpes status. Diagnosed with the virus himself in 2013, he stumbled through the stigma from all sides, including communication with health care providers, potential sexual partners, family, friends, and most importantly — his relationship with himself. This was brought to light in 2017 when Courtney began researching herpes groups, only to find others struggling with their diagnosis to the point of expressing suicide ideation. This led to the weekly interviews on his podcast, Something Positive for Positive People, which is now a 501c3 nonprofit organization that offers donation-based mentorship, and community, along with free support resources for people navigating all aspects of herpes stigma.  To work with Courtney Brame check out Something Positive for Positive People and support the work of SPFPP Mark your calendar for May 23, 2024, for the virtual SPFPP Conference.  Please like follow, share, and leave a review on all of the podcast platforms.  You can also follow me on IG @agelust.co or check out www.agelust.co Check out  Terri Warren’s Updated Herpes Handbook  https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/herpes-simplex-virus www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/stdfact-herpes-detailed.htm A LITTLE MORE INFO: Herpes has been around for millions of years, humans gave it to the Neanderthals along with stomach ulcers. What is a Menopause Doula: Grace Sealy guides to takes the pressure off.

Do you know the 5 stages of grief? Chances are that if you are going through menopause you are also experiencing the stages of grief; denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Calm down, not everyone feels grief but a lot of us do. Just like other transitions, rites of passage, they are best navigated with a guide, whether an Auntie, a community, or a doula.  Grace Veras Sealy is one of those guides. Grace is a Women's Holistic Health Coach (IIN), Perinatal Consultant, Doula, and Educator. She is a Menopause Health Guide at Elektra Health, a digital health company that provides evidence-based virtual care, education, and peer support for women navigating the 10-year menopause transition and beyond. Grace helps people figure out how to take the pressure off in the best ways for you.    Topics include: **Stigma Around Menopause:** - Discussion about menopause in certain cultures, like the Dominican Republic, is taboo due to societal stigma around aging and women's health. - Openly discussing menopause and age is considered uncommon and often met with surprise or discomfort. **Misinformation and Varying Perceptions:** - Within families, experiences with menopause differ; some members don't remember much about their menopausal phase, while others deny being in perimenopause despite experiencing classic symptoms. - Limited reliance on hormone panels is noted, as they provide only a current hormonal snapshot and may not accurately reflect past or future menopausal changes. **Debunking Misconceptions:** - Grace aims to educate individuals that various symptoms experienced, like sleep disturbances, mood swings, weight changes, and hair loss, could be interconnected and indicative of menopause, regardless of age or current hormonal status. - Encourages a shift in perception about menopause, advocating for open discussion and education to dispel misconceptions and promote better understanding. Solutions for Menopause: - **Menopause Doula:** Grace highlights the role of a menopause doula, offering holistic, non-medical support through personalized guidance, supplement recommendations, lifestyle adjustments, and emotional support during the menopausal transition. - **Electra Health Services:** Electra Health provides a membership-based platform offering learning modules, continuous information updates, community interaction, and guidance from menopause guides. The service includes consultations with clinicians (currently out-of-pocket cost, aiming for insurance coverage in the future). **Cultural Stigma and Menopause:** - **Dominican Perspective:** Grace, being Dominican, acknowledges the cultural stigma surrounding menopause specifically in DR. She emphasizes the importance of addressing this stigma within Latin American and Spanish-speaking cultures. Have an experience with a menopause doula, or online menopause platform share it with me via my DMs or email at [email protected].  Check out Elektra Health’s- Guide to Menopause gives you the low down on everything from stages of menopause to symptoms and what you can do about them. Low Pressure Fitness with the Mistresses of The Menopausal Mind

In 2021 I started the Mistresses of the Menopausal Mind, a Mistress Mind all about the menopause transitions. We would come together 2x a month, once meeting to shoot the shit and the other to learn about how to support ourselves through this transition in ways we may not have thought of. In total, there were 11 expert sessions ranging from Human Design and transition, psychedelics, hormones, scarcity, beauty, and of course sex. One of these sessions was on Low-Pressure Fitness. The pelvic floor can be a part of our bodies often overlooked until it gives us issues. We settle with sneezing and peeing, discomfort with sex, or even full-out prolapse. LPF is an amazing modality that strengthens with relaxation and expansion. Stacy Graham, RN, LPF-CT has been teaching and studying for close to a decade. She is kind and knowledgeable. Stacy has been my teacher for a bit over a year now. Check out her site https://www.coreessencetraining.com/. Mistresses are no longer .... for now, but I plan to release more videos from the sessions as we head into the fall.

This short and sweet off-the-cuff, from-the-hip episode is all about feet and estrogen, and the pelvic floor. So really a little about a lot. Special guest my husband who chimes in on the benefits of Low Pressure Fitness. Me, practicing LPF on IG “Squatting isn't good for your pelvic floor.” Correction squatting is excellent for the pelvic floor except when you are peeing. The pee is trying to drop it like it’s hot, and you are trying to keep it all together while you hover over the bowl, that's what's not good for your pelvic floor.  Low-pressure fitness example. We will use the modalities of breathwork, movement, and conscious kink (specifically, shibari, Japanese-inspired rope bondage) as an exploration towards listening to and befriending your ever-changing body. Our time together will include learning with storytelling facilitated group discussion, guided breathwork, functional movement, and beginner shibari self-tying practice.

At 45 years old or older, there is no need for hormone testing according to NAMS, menopause treatment is based on symptoms alone. This is because hormones in the perimenopausal stage are bat shit, high one day and low the next. However, if you are a numbers person and love data by all means do you boo, just know that testing is a snapshot in time. So if you feel like doo-doo and the numbers reflect otherwise, you are not wrong, and support is possible, it's about finding the right support for you. Please support this podcast!!! Buck Angel, the Man with a 🐱 talks ageing and being the TRANPA

I just realized that Buck was 50 when the film was released, 20 years into his body. His comfort with his expression of self, his manhood was an example for me of what it means to be embodied. As far as how he impacted my career, well he talked about the importance of getting all body parts checked, caring for all parts and for him, because he has a pussy, this meant going to the gynecologist.  Buck has since stopped making films and is now focused on pleasure products for all bodies, as well as the power of cannabis. Most recently he has been outspoken about inclusion in the trans community, his concerns that trans kids are moving too quickly into medical transition.  Topics: Transgender or Transsexual   Buck's transition  Ageism   Pleasure without orgasm  Vaginal care for transmen  2nd Puberty   Edging   House music   To get a copy of the FTM handout Buck created to help you navigate the gynecologist as a trans man check out https://ftmhealth.com/  Where to find Buck Angel on IG @buckangel https://buckangel.com  Buck talks about Vaginal Atrophy https://buckangel.com/blogs/news/tranpa-trans-male-vaginal-atrophy  Where you can find Jessica:  Instagram: @agelust.co @jessica_jolie_n  Live NYC Retreat April 28-30 Menopause, Rope breath In person Mistress of the menopausal Mind NYC Retreat April 28-30th led by Jessica certified Menopause Provider and Masha certified nurse midwife and rope educator  Email [email protected] or https://theropejourney.com/contact  Web: Privatepartsofwellness.com  AGELUST LABS Blueprint Program: https://tinyurl.com/agelustlabs  Agelust Labs is an 8 week , 4 step actionable personalized blueprint to help guide you through this stage of life. https://tinyurl.com/agelustlabs

8 Decades of Fabulous - Pat Bowie from "And Just Like That"

I am blessed to have an example of what it means to age with strength, grace, and evolution. Pat Bowie, otherwise known as Mom, has been singing and acting professionally since the mid-1960s. She recorded 2 records with Prestige Records "Out Of Sight!" and "Feelin Good!" Featuring Charles Mcpherson, Kenny Burrell, Tommy Flanagan, and Ray Bryant. She has won several awards and was the first Black Mrs. Cratchit in a professional production of A Christmas Carol at the Goodman Theater in Chicago. She was asked to test to be the first Black centerfold for Playboy but didn't do it. Most recently she played Eunice in "And Just Like That" and she's back for the second season. Check out this article from Vogue, yes Vogue. During our conversation, we talked about aging, sex, vibrators, menopause, and of course her professional career as well. Also, you'll hear the thoughts of my eldest daughter as she shifts from adolescence to emerging adulthood. There's also a lot of talk about my father, George Badonsky, who was a powerhouse in his own right. A man who loved my mother to the very end, and my mother called him her one true love. Thank you, especially, to my husband, who believes that people's stories hold great power. RC, without you, I can't say for sure whether I would have recorded this. I hope you take time to talk to the elders in your family, even those that you struggle with and learn who they are. A word about this episode, I am a one-person show and learning how to navigate this format, needless to say, it probably would have benefited from a producer. You can help by following, liking, sharing and rating AGELUST on Apple Podcast, and Spotify, and then maybe we can dig a hole large enough for me to get a producer. Keep coming back because we have more guests!!!!  Remember to "choose wisely", or at least as wisely as you can at this moment. You can always make another choice.

ABOUT THIS SHOW

Welcome to The Private Parts of Wellness, where we embrace the messy, imperfect journey of life. Finding balance isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up, making choices, and accepting the beauty and chaos along the way. No pressure, no perfection— We’ll dive into everything from sex, hormones, aging, science, and a bit of the "woo woo". With a double board-certified family nurse practitioner and certified menopause provider. Heads up—She curses, so this podcast may not be suitable for the office or a carpool with kids. Life is messy, and that’s where the magic happens.
