Our artifact for today is another bulla that was discovered in 2019 at a dig in Jerusalem and inscribed on it is the name Nathan-Melech. This person was only mentioned once in the Bible, but according to the Scriptures, he was a royal official of King Josiah, son of the evil King Amon. As we kick off this new series, we start with a question that Michael is often asked, seeing as how he is a biologist. Darwinian Evolution tends to be pushed heavily in the field of biology, so a lot of people find it astonishing that Michael does not. In this episode, Michael shares how he was a Darwinian Evolutionist, but how, after studying biology, he deemed it illogical. For example, when one looks at the complexity of cells and how they all have a specific purpose, how can they think it evolved by random chance? Creation is so intricately designed that it just shouts the existence of an Intelligent Designer who assigned everything with a purpose. If there is a design, there is a Designer. Continuing with His conversation with the Samaritan woman, Jesus makes a profound statement, “I who speak to you am He.” With this statement, Jesus is also making an undisputable claim that He is indeed the Son of God. We also are reminded of Jesus’ ultimate sovereignty as He demonstrates His supernatural control over time. Verse 27 is a great reminder for us that God is over all, even time. Too often, we think of God as not being on our time schedule, but really, we are just too impatient to wait for results. A quiet night at the seashore offers a sacred pause, where the sound of the waves draws hearts into prayer and thanksgiving for time spent in God’s creation. Even in the beauty, there is a longing to stay and a quiet fear of what lies ahead.
