It’s official! Her Dinero Matter’s 10-year birthday is here and I still can’t believe it. This episode is all about celebration, and we’ll do just that with a thorough review of the most unexpected truths I've learned about money, identity and what it really takes to feel financially confident, especially when you're carrying cultura, family and dreams on your shoulders. Are you ready to dig deep into these money lessons? Although this podcast has evolved over the years, the original vision still remains: the conversations we’ve had so far reflect the financial journeys of many, with a focus on how money intersects with language, culture, and upbringing, especially for Latinas. Today’s convo is all about highlighting something so many of us have already suspected: how money is deeply emotional and our decisions are often shaped by our upbringing, and this emotion is valid. It also emphasizes that every financial journey is unique and valid, progress is personal, and cultural expectations greatly influence money management. In this episode, I'm sharing the most unexpected truths I've learned about money, identity and what it really takes to feel financially confident, especially when you're carrying cultura, family and dreams on your shoulders. Sensation Is Your Super Power: Using Somatic Healing to Tackle Financial Stress | HDM 429
xiety-ridden way? Well, here is some good news: it is possible to use the wisdom of your bodily sensations to regulate your nervous system and get out of money stress mode. In this week’s episode, Sandra Hinojosa dives into big stuff like how money can be used as a weapon in relationships and what it really takes to feel safe and confident making financial decisions. Ready to be inspired? If you’ve experienced a financial setback and had your mind spiraling out of control because of it (even when, deep down inside, you know that life happening is to be expected and no big deal), you know there are times when our bodies just seem to have a mind of their own: no matter how much we try to think “positively” or intellectualize the situation, our typical anxious response is always there, waiting to jump on us. Ever wondered why this happens? The short response to this is that our money experiences are deeply connected to how the body stores memories and traumas, particularly those related to early experiences with money. These experiences can create automatic responses that bypass logical thinking, especially in moments of perceived financial threat. The good news is that there is a way out of this patterned “response” and this is exactly what Sandra Hinojosa, this week’s HDM guest will share with us. In today’s episode, Sandra emphasizes the importance of recognizing and tuning into the body’s signals or “cues” to distinguish between a genuine, current threat and a past trauma response.Sandra Hinojosa Ludwig is a somatic experience and practitioner, ICF train certified coach, award winning, best selling author of Chica, Why Not?In this episode you will learn: What’s the impact of early money experiences on the nervous system and why understanding this matters. How to tune into your body’s signals and cues to deal with financial stress. The 3 things you can start doing today to live an aligned life. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/429The post, Sensation Is Your Super Power: Using Somatic Healing to Tackle Financial Stress | HDM 429 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Generational Money Stress: A Path To Healing | HDM 428
Have you ever had that weird moment where you realize your money habits aren’t entirely yours? That maybe, just maybe, you’re playing out a script written long before you were born? That’s the exact realization this week’s HDM guest had a few years ago. In this episode, I have a vulnerable and insightful conversation with Antuanett Lopez, where we talk about money stress, her journey from Peru to the US, and the impact this has had on her financial decisions. Let’s jump right in!More often than not, money stories have nothing to do with factual, very much in-your-face numbers; it's about the emotions, the unspoken fears, and the silent lessons we carry. Those first impressions, the ones we often don’t even realize are there, can shape our financial lives in ways we never imagined (yes, money stress is a thing). A simple phrase overheard, a look of stress on a parent’s face, these tiny moments become the foundation of our relationship with wealth. They whisper stories of scarcity or security, fear or freedom, long before we ever balance a checkbook. It’s this undercurrent, the emotional weight behind the numbers, that truly drives our decisions.Understanding how our money stories came to be and how they have shaped our decisions is something that is crucial to reshape our financial futures. This is why, in this week’s HDM episode, we delve into the intricate connections between our upbringing, cultural influences, and the money stress that, more often than not, brings unconscious narratives into our financial lives.Antuanett Lopez is a bilingual mental health therapist dedicated to providing culturally competent care that supports personal development and healing through connection, education, and self-awareness. Antoinett has a private practice with a mission to create healthier generations and focuses. In this episode you will learn: The connection between money, survival, sacrifice, and silence in many Latino families.Antoinett Lopez's journey from Peru to the US and the financial challenges she and her mom faced. The weight of generational expectations and the role of therapy in healing money wounds. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/428The post, Generational Money Stress: A Path To Healing | HDM 428 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Perimenopause - The Financial Surprise You Didn’t See Coming | HDM 426
Have you hit that proverbial midlife stage only to realize that, lately, you just don’t feel like your former self? Or maybe you have experienced a series of symptoms that no medical practitioner can properly explain? If this resonates, perimenopause may be behind it all. In this special episode, Amanda Thebe, a fitness and women’s health expert, will walk us through her personal experiences with perimenopause and why educating ourselves is so crucial. If you are a woman, intuitively you know that perimenopause and menopause are a reality you will someday have to live through. But, if I asked you how that day-to-day reality would look, do you trust your ability to paint a detailed picture? Can you see yourself doing things differently? Changing the relationship you have with not only your body, but also with your beliefs? If the answer is no, no need to panic. Menopause (and its little sister, perimenopause) is a reality every woman will have to walk through, but to this day, awareness around this new life stage (what it entails, how it affects your day-to-day life, how to manage it better, etc) is still in development. This is why, in this week’s episode, I’m having a much-needed conversation with Amanda Thebe, a fitness and women’s health expert who has spent the last 10 years of her career talking and generating awareness about menopause. In this slightly out-of-the-ordinary episode, Amanda will share her experience navigating the stages of menopause and demystify what it means to live through the changes. In this episode you will learn: Why getting proper support from professionals in the medical field is so challenging. The impact that perimenopause can have on your finances (and how to ease the transition). One thing you should know about perimenopause to better prepare for it. When Financial Empowerment Meets Community | HDM 424
Over the past few decade, financial empowerment has been one of the core guiding principles in my mission and business. So when the opportunity to become the Director of Financial Empowerment at Empower, a non-profit organization working with the Hispanic community in Wichita found me in late 2023 something inside me clicked. In this episode, I’ll take you to meet the incredible team behind Empower and share how this experience has re-shaped the way I think about money and community. Shall we dig in?If you’ve been listening to this podcast for a while, you know that financial empowerment lies at the heart of all I do: from the products and educational content I create to every speaking engagement or consulting call I’ve ever been involved with. However, as it happens with all the beliefs and definitions we hold dear, I never really questioned if my definition of financial had room for growth. Not until early in 2024, life’s twists and turns put me in front of Empower, a non-profit doing grassroots work in a historically Hispanic neighborhood in Wichita. Fast forward a year (and a few months) later. If I had to summarize my experience in a few words, I would only need three words: what a ride!In today’s episode, I want to give you a full BTS into the heart of an organization that is doing incredible work for the Hispanic community and creating some real, lasting empowerment. In this episode you will learn: BTS: Meet the Empower team! How has this experience impacted my understanding of money, purpose, and financial empowerment? Financial Planning for Uncertain Times | HDM 423
Are you among those who believe financial planning is something that only people with big incomes or inherited wealth should do? If so, then you’re not alone. Although planning skills are often seen as a spontaneity killer, the truth is that having a flexible plan under your sleeve is the best way to face uncertain times. In this week’s episode, Elaine King, founder of Family and Money Matters, will share why having a personalized financial plan is so important. Have you ever wondered why uncertain times always hit us so hard? It is a real paradox. Intuitively, we know that life can change at a moment’s notice. We’ve seen friends and family navigate all kinds of rough patches, and if you were around in the 80s, you have also lived through a couple of recessions and economic downturns. Intellectually, we understand that uncertainty and change are a part of life. And yet, when it’s time to develop a plan to navigate the huge waves of this ocean called constant change, some of us still resist. We either feel that no plan will ever be able to prepare us enough for the unknown (so why bother), or we overdo it and end up attempting to forecast every small thing. Hitting the proverbial middle ground feels like an impossible task. This is why, in this week’s podcast, Elaine King, an award-winning certified financial planner, will share what essential mindset shifts you need to implement today to reach your financial goals. In this episode you will learn: How emotions show up in financial planning. Why having a Plan B (and even a plan C) is non-negotiable, How to shift your mindset around money so it works for you and not against you.For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/423The post, Financial Planning for Uncertain Times | HDM 423 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Scaling Your Business Through Government Contracts | HDM 422
If you are a small business owner or you plan to become one anytime soon, I can almost guarantee that one of your biggest concerns right now (if not the main concern) is how to make your business profitable in the long term without burning yourself down to the ground. Or some version of this. Well, today is your lucky day!. In this week’s episode, our guest, Dr. Karwanna D. Irving (aka, The Queen of Government Contracts) will share her playbook to do just that. Shall we dig in?Typical advice for new business owners usually emphasizes a few “well-known” things. First things first, being in business is hard –the first few years will feel like an absolute grind (#yikes). Second, you have to start small to test the ground and gain momentum –forget about big contracts in year one. You should focus instead on perfecting our processes. And finally, the most important thing: you need to price yourself competitively –meaning, you have to find a rate that your client is willing to pay. Well, in today’s HDM episode we will be doing a thorough revision of those deep-rooted beliefs because, let’s be honest, every small business owner out there gets into business for similar reasons. Increasing their incomes is an important part of it, but so is taking back control of their time and gaining a sense of personal freedom. Savvy business owners understand that entrepreneurship doesn’t have to mean fulfillment: trading time for money can only take you so far.In this episode, Dr. Karwanna D. Irving, CEO and Founder of She’s Got Goals, author and Government Contracts expert, will share with us her playbook to scale your small business using the power of big contracts. In this episode you will learn: Why following typical business advice is not the best way to scale. The A to Z of getting started with government contracts. The biggest mistakes small businesses make when attempting to secure a government contract. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/422The post, Scaling Your Business Through Government Contracts | HDM 422 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Fast-Track Your Way Out of Debt | HDM 421
If you are among the 44% of Americans who want to get rid of debt in 2025, but you are still not sure what the best way to achieve this goal, this week’s HDM episode is for you. Today, Rachel Hart, founder of Budget, Save and Blog will walk us through the radical debt-repayment plan that allowed her to slash $78,000 in credit card debt in only 1.5 years. Shall we dig in?If you’ve ever tried to set up a truly long-term goal (think at least 3+ years from now), you know that doing this falls perfectly in the proverbial easier-said-than-done category. The main problem? Our brains are wired to privilege short term satisfaction over long term success. Getting an instant $20 cash rebate from a $1000 purchase? Yes, please. Receiving thousands of dollars in ROI after 30 years of investing? Honestly, not that enticing (who is willing to wait 10 long years to see the reward coming, if it ever does?).This is why paying off debt sometimes feels like an impossible quest, especially if the amount of money you have to repay is substantial (to the point where it surpasses by far your current income levels). With such a huge number living in your head all the time, it's easy to feel discouraged, demotivated, and, sometimes, even hopeless. But, what if there was a way around this? What if you could build a plan to slash all your debt in record time? What would be the trade-offs? And most importantly, would you be willing to accept them?Well, this is exactly what we’ll be talking about in this episode. This week we are having a down-to-earth conversation with Rachel Hart, founder of Budget, Save and Blog and host of the Money Moves for Latinas podcast. Back in 2021, Rachel slashed $78,000 in debt in only 1.5 years, a financial feat that must be discussed. In this episode you will learn: Rachel’s radical plan, explained. The trade-offs behind an aggressive debt repayment plan.A key piece of (unconventional) advice for those who are in a debt-repayment journey. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/421The post, Fast-Track Your Way Out of Debt | HDM 421 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

The Magic of Thinking Ahead: Meet Your Future Financial Self | HDM 420
If you love to plan for things, you already know that thinking ahead has some serious benefits in the mental peace department –when you plan things in advance, you remove some of the uncertainty that our brains tend to associate with all future-related events. In this week’s episode, I’ll share with you what the financial benefits of thinking ahead are and how you can put yourself in future-me thinking mode. You don’t need to specialize in financial forecasting to understand that, when it comes to personal finances, making decisions and planning with your future self in mind has some major advantages. Intuitively, we all know that long-term planning (aka, thinking ahead) coupled with consistency is, admittedly, one of the best strategies out there. However, when you are immersed in the day-to-day grind, where the rhythms of life pulse in a never-ending staccato, it's easy to forget that there’s more to the day than your never-ending to-do list. You also have goals and dreams, future projects and plans that are brewing in the back, a vision of how you want your life to be. And none of that will come to fruition today, or even over the next few days. The only way to access that well of possibilities is by harvesting the power of thinking ahead and planning for your future success. Although every human being is already equipped with all the tools needed to plan and think about their future selves, not everyone knows how to intentionally tap into that pool of possibilities. This is why in today’s episode, I’ll share with you what the benefits of thinking ahead are and how you can put yourself in future-me thinking mode. In this episode you will learn: Five reasons why thinking about your future money self matters. Financial Stability for Everyday People: How To Get There | HDM 419
Achieving financial stability doesn’t have to feel like an uphill climb all the time. In fact, it’s possible to build a strong financial foundation without feeling overwhelmed by your own numbers (spoiler alert: the whole journey can even be fun!). In today’s episode, Dr. Darla Bishop will share why being “good” with money doesn’t require an advanced degree in economics or superior mathematical knowledge. Shall we dig in?If you are a regular listener of personal finances podcasts, chances are you know someone who is really “good” with money. Meaning: for as long as you’ve known them, this person has never shown visible signs of financial struggle. From ongoing conversations, you know they’ve been working the same job for quite some time, paid their bills consistently, took regular vacations with their families, and even managed to offer support for their college-aged kids. The most surprising thing? You know, for a fact, that generational wealth is not at play here. Your acquaintance didn’t inherit a massive state or is supported by a hefty trust fund. They are a regular, everyday person, with a regular job and half a dozen bills to pay, just like you. And yet, their lives couldn’t feel more different, and deep down inside, you can’t stop wondering why. What exactly gave them their advantage? What’s at play here? In this week’s episode, we are going to dig deep into this in an open convo with Dr. Darla Bishop, the author of How to Afford Everything, a practical guide for those who are starting to figure out their money. Darla will share her insights on the steps you need to take now to finally become “good” with money. In this episode you will learn: Why small financial wins are so important. How everyday people can attain financial stability (plot twist: it all starts with a mind shift). The real impact of changing your mindset. When you are living in a financial situation filled with dramatic ups and downs, sometimes you start to sense that maybe, just maybe, the real culprit behind the craziness is everything… but the money itself. Yes, you might not be bringing in the income you want, but something inside you suspects that, even if you did, your current situation would still be a thing. If this paradox feels familiar, this is your episode. Are you tired of creating complex spreadsheets (sophisticated expense categories and advanced formulas included) only to realize a few weeks later that you are not following your carefully crafted plan? If you are still chasing the proverbial one-step budgeting/financial solution that will put your finances on the road to guaranteed success, this episode is for you. This week, Nicole Stanley, founder of Arise Financial Coaching, will share what you can do today to inject a dose of Money Momentum into your finances. “Spend less and save more.”“You can’t take vacations if you’re in debt”.“Before getting groceries, always check prices in different places.”.“Don’t buy things you don’t need.”“Stop buying $5 lattes.”When was the last time you heard this type of money “advice”? If you’re anything like me, the answer is probably “far too often”. While the intentions of the advice-giver usually come from a place of genuine care and desire to help, the unfortunate truth is that, when taken at face value, these pieces of advice rarely fix anything. Instead, they make us feel ashamed, unfit, or just plain incapable of fixing this big can of worms that is your finances. But, what if there was a way to not only “get” financial knowledge, but also act on it and thus gain momentum in the process? What if you had a framework that walked you through the essential steps you need to take to finally put your finances in order without the shame or the limiting stories that may be feeding some misaligned beliefs? Well, that’s exactly what Nicole Stanley is sharing with us today. This week in Her Dinero Matters, Nicole will share with us 3 major truths she discovered in her own journey toward financial success. Intellectually, we all know the world is constantly changing. No matter where we are or what we do for a living, every day we wake up to the realization that our environments and circumstances are always adjusting. Have you ever felt mildly uninspired by your job, career, and in general, the everyday routine? It’s not that you don’t enjoy what you do or think there’s something wrong with how things are going. No, nothing like that. It’s just that, sometimes, the realization that you don’t feel seen or heard in certain situations is too hard to ignore. Boundaries for The Holiday Season: Why They Matter | HDM 413
If you’ve ever browsed your library’s psychology/self-help section, you know that boundaries are everywhere. No matter where you turn or who you ask, the topic always resurfaces, claiming its spot at the top of your list of good habits to acquire. However, one thing is talking about boundaries and another is actively setting them up. If you still struggle with this (FYI, you’re not alone!), maybe it’s time for a lil’refresher. In this week’s episode, I’m sharing a quick primer on boundaries, why they matter, and how having a couple of them firmly set can (and will!) enhance your holiday experience. If you are anything like me, you know actively setting up boundaries sounds way, way simpler in theory than in practice. The problem is that no one teaches how to do this, or even what types of boundaries to set and when. This lack of actionable insights becomes a glaring issue around the seasons when social interactions and demands for your time increase, such as the holiday season. This is why, this week I decided to put together a quick reminder of why setting boundaries during busy seasons is so important and how would those boundaries look likeWhat you’ll learn in this episode:Why boundaries are important. The types of boundaries you can set, especially during the holiday season. Why setting solid boundaries is one of the best ways to preserve your mental health. The post, Boundaries for The Holiday Season: Why They Matter | HDM 413 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

What You Don’t See Coming: Five Lessons From The Unexpected | HDM 412
When was the last time that things didn’t go according to plan? If you’re anything like me, “quite often” is probably your answer (and there’s nothing wrong with that). The reason is simple: even the best thought and carefully weighted plans cannot keep life from happening, sometimes in the most random ways. In fact, although eliminating the unexpected from your life is almost impossible, no one ever teaches you how to react to life when things massively deviate from your original plan. This is why, in today’s episode, I’ll share with you five things you have to practice if you want to make your peace with the unexpected. We’ve all had a moment (or two) when we swore a plan or project would turn out alright. Maybe the whole thing was a low-stakes, low-pressure project where virtually nothing could go wrong, or maybe this plan was just replicating something you had already done in the past with a decent amount of success. In any case, the expectations were low, and your confidence soared. This is why, when things didn’t turn out as expected, all you could do was stare at the facts in disbelief. Did you forget an important point? Were you not prepared enough? It may sound a tad irritating, but the answer is far simpler: unexpected circumstances usually happen… well, when you least expect it! And in no other sector is this as true as in finance. In this HDM episode, I’ll be sharing a personal story that shows how life’s curveballs don’t have to derail you from your path. In this episode you will learn: What does the unexpected have to do with your financial life?Reasons why unexpected situations can be so overwhelming. The 5 key lessons that you can take away from unexpected life disruptions. Seeking Security? The True Meaning of Financial Independence | HDM 411
Imagine waking up one regular Monday morning as you usually do… only to find out that all your income, close support network, and, in general, your regular financial support sources are forever gone, and now you’re back to square one (which, by the way, probably feels like square -1000). It may sound like a hard stretch, but for so many women, this nightmarish scenario highlights a common and real fear: the possibility of losing their stability in life because they don’t have their own money. And while this might sound scary, this week’s guests and dear friends will share how this lingering sense of insecurity pushed them to seek financial independence and, simultaneously, turned them into an inspiration to us all. Some people say the biggest lessons in life come whenever you least expect them, and today I’ll have to agree with the popular lore. In today’s episode, I’m having a conversation with two friends and fellow Accredited Financial Counselors®, Weslia Echols and Willa Williams who learned through their lived experiences why being financially independent is so important.Weslia and Willa’s unique mission is to assist Christian women in embracing their STEWARD Identity™. They aim to help women discover their unique path to creating wealth and achieving financial fulfillment. Through their company, Trinity Financial Coaching, and their weekly podcast, Wealth and Wisdom Together™, they have created a safe space for women to learn and discuss money while trusting God, trusting themselves, and trusting the process. In this episode you will learn: Why financial independence should be a top priority in everyone’s life list.A core characteristic of financial fulfillment that everyone should be aiming to have. From Ghost to Leader: One Woman’s Way to Financial Success | HDM 410
Intuitively, we all know that leaving your home country for good is a challenging experience. Adapting to a new place, language, culture, job market, AND financial system is anything but an easy feat. However, knowing that it’s hard and listening to the first-person account of someone who not only survived the experience but also managed to thrive and build a meaningful career is truly inspiring. In today’s episode, we are having an empowering conversation with Jhoanna Astudillo, the Hispanic segment leader in BOK Financial’s Consumer Division. Jhoanna will share with us her biggest money realizations and how they came to be. When was the last time you had a hard time cashing a check at your local bank? Or the last time you had to wait one hour for someone to help you do a simple money transfer? If the answer to those questions is some variation of “I’m not sure”, today’s episode will surely surprise you. Like many immigrants, today’s guest had to re-start from scratch. From having to learn the language to figure out the U.S. financial system and, while on it, uncovering her limiting money story, Jhoanna’s journey will inspire you as much as it has inspired me. Jhoanna Astudillo is the Hispanic segment leader in BOK Financial’s Consumer Division, and the first Hispanic person to serve in this position. She has worked in the financial industry since 2007. Previously, she served in the U.S. Army and has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business and Marketing from Illinois State University. In this episode you will learn: Jhoanna’s story and why she was referred to as a “ghost”. Cultural Humility Will Set Your Finances Free | HDM 409
Have you ever walked into a bank to request information about a product or service only to hear a long-winded and hard-to-understand explanation that, instead of providing answers, only creates more questions? This is an experience that almost everyone in the Latino community has experienced at least once in their lives. Not because financial concepts, in and by themselves, are too complex or impossible to understand. Not at all. Sometimes, it’s just because the ones giving all the explanations lack a foundational core element that, in an ideal world, every financial educator should have: cultural humility. In this week’s episode, Dr. Melinda Jimenez Perez will share with us what cultural humility is and why this not-so-obvious concept is essential when teaching (and learning!) about all things money. Let’s be honest: money and finances may not be as complex or abstract of a topic as calculus or some good old geometry, but still, that doesn’t mean everyone will be able to understand the basic tenets at once. The way you think and interact with money can be completely different from the way I see it, and that doesn’t make any of us right or wrong. It’s just different. According to Dr. Melinda Jimenez, understanding how our own culture impacts the way we see finances and what we can do to improve our situation (even when we might lack “basic” financial knowledge) is the essential working definition of cultural humility. In today’s episode, we will learn why cultural humility is essential for improving financial literacy in the Latino community. In this episode you will learn: What cultural humility is and why it’s essential in financial education. The power of representation in financial education. The rise of financial resource centers and why they matter. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/409The post, Cultural Humility Will Set Your Finances Free | HDM 409 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

The Hidden Costs of Empty Nesting | HDM 408
When you are a parent, you all know sending your kids off to college and out of the house (aka, empty-nesting) will happen eventually, but no one really prepares you for it. And, like everything in this life, different people react to it in different ways. Since that moment in my parenting life is fast approaching, in this week’s episode I want to share a few empty-nesting hidden financial considerations that I’ve discovered along the way and why they matter. If you’ve already shipped your kids off to college and into the beginning stages of their adult lives, you know this is not an easy step. Not only are you effectively reducing your number of household members (#gasp), but, in a way, you’re finally putting to a test all those years of upbringing. Will your children be able to make the right life and financial decisions? You don’t really know, and everyone keeps saying you can only hope for the best. But, is that accurate? Does your financial involvement in your kids' lives effectively end on the day they leave for college or have things changed since your own college days? I feel that’s the big question every parent needs to start figuring out now. This is why, in today’s HDM episode, I’ll walk you through five (important) financial considerations that are starting to take shape in my planning process. I’ll share with you why these things are important for my journey and what are some key takeaways to consider. In this episode you will learn: Storytime: why has empty-nesting been on my mind lately? The positives: a couple of great things I’m actually looking forward to.Five financial considerations that I hadn’t thought about before. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/408The post, The Hidden Costs of Empty Nesting | HDM 408 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

In this week’s episode, I’m having an informal chat with my good friend Librada Estrada about our kids stepping into adulthood, our health, and, of course, preparing financially for our future. Have you ever found yourself going through challenges or circumstances that no one else seems to be relating to? It’s not that your issues are uncommon or only specific to you, not at all. The Price of Convenience | HDM 406
If you are among the millions of people who rely on Google Maps to get to places, use Task Rabbit to find contractors, or have groceries delivered almost anywhere through Instacart, you are not alone. These services may feel like separate entities, but at the end of the day they all have one major thing in common: they are extremely convenient and, as such, most of them come with a hefty price tag. Does this mean you shouldn’t use them? The goal of this week’s episode is to answer that eternal question. Today, I’ll share my thoughts on the price of convenience and how you can use this bonus to your advantage.Picture the following scenario. It’s mid-week, and instead of decreasing, your workload is at an all-time high. You leave the office exhausted and in a daze, only to realize a few minutes into your commute that, yet again, you forgot about dinner. It seems that your brain just can’t plan a proper grocery haul so, just like you did last week, you decide to take the convenient approach. With just two or three flips through your phone screen, your problem is solved. Dinner will be served at your door in less than half an hour, courtesy of Uber Eats. Convenience may be just a noun, but on a busy Wednesday evening, when you have no mental space left available, it becomes a life-saver. The glue that holds together your packed schedule. The only problem? Just like any luxury item, choosing the most convenient option usually has an extra fee. Yes, your meal delivery, house cleaning, and transportation services may be extra handy, but they ain’t cheap. This is why in today’s episode we are going to have an in-depth discussion about the price of convenience. Why is it that the United States consumer loves convenience so much and what is the true price you are paying for getting some time back in your calendar? In this episode you will learn: Snap history: how did these convenient services come to be?One risk of relying too much on handy solutions.Key things you need to know before signing up for these services. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/406The post, The Price of Convenience | HDM 406 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Total Financial Loss: Can You Prepare For It? | HDM 405
Although no one likes to think about financial bumps, the harsh reality is that, as long as you have money in this game, financial loss will always be part of the spectrum of possible outcomes, and while I’m all about positive thinking, I also want to stress the importance of being prepared for even the worst case scenario. This is why, in this week’s episode I’ll share with you five reasons why you should have a backup plan to protect you when the possibility of total financial loss starts to loom over the horizon. We all have our own version of the worst nightmare ever. For some, that no-go scenario is filled with creepy crawlers (shudder), crazy heights, or bad news. For others horrible traffic jams, crowded places, and unfortunate circumstances are all that it takes to qualify something as a seriously bad dream. However, if we leave the specifics aside, we can all agree that most of us consider total financial loss as one of the most accurate definitions of nightmarish scenarios. In today’s day and age, it’s hard to imagine a more anxiety-generating situation than the loss of all our material wealth. In fact, for some people, the possibility of experiencing total financial loss is such an unthinkable scenario that the act of simply considering the possibility is enough to trigger a mini-panic attack. While I always strive to remain positive and uplifting, I have to recognize that sometimes being prepared for our worst-case scenarios does pay off. When it comes to total financial loss having a plan in place (aka, your emergency protocol) will always be a savvy choice. This is why in this week’s episode, I’ll share with you five reasons why you should have a backup plan to protect you when the possibility of total financial loss starts to loom over the horizon. In this episode you will learn: Five key reasons why you should always be prepared, both for the good and the bad.My insights on how I answered the “What would I do if…?” question. How others have responded to this question and their big takeaways. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/405The post, Total Financial Loss: Can You Prepare For It? | HDM 405 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Splurging or Saving? Five Guiding Questions to Help You Make Better Spending Decisions| HDM 404
Splurging or saving? That is the question. And if you have a financial goal that requires you to save big and consistently, you probably know firsthand how stressful and frustrating spending decisions can feel. In this week’s episode, I’ll share with you a set of guiding questions that will help you navigate the delicate art of figuring out when it’s better to save and when it’s safe to splurge. No adult life is fully complete without a full set of (deceptively) crucial decisions. [Summer Playlist] Essential Wisdom To Use When You Feel Broke | HDM 182
If you’ve ever felt broken, you know there’s probably nothing worse than the collection of anxious, self-defeating thoughts (and ensuing feelings) that fall upon you every time you realize you’re broke and can’t afford a basic expense, whether it is rent or just essential groceries. But, what if there was a mental switch that you could turn on everytime you feel broken and defeated? Something that allowed you to turn the situation around? Would you use it? Well, you’re in for a treat! In this week’s episode, Angelina Rosario, success coach, author, and motivational speaker will share with how she learned to turn brokenness and setbacks into fuel for success Hopelessness isn’t fun. It's easy to become carried away by the tide of negative feelings and intrusive/anxious thoughts that pop up whenever you’re going through a rough patch and your finances reflect your life circumstances all too clearly. Being broke is like wearing clothes that are too small for you: outsiders may not notice right away, but you feel the itch and the stretch everytime you take a step.Although there is nothing to be ashamed of, almost everyone reacts to a broken situationship in a negative way, and for a great reason: it’s how regular humans deal with stressful and unsettling circumstances! But, what if there was an alternative to this? What if setbacks and perceived failure were not something to be wary of, but the very building blocks of success? An essential piece to your journey? This is an insight that Angelina Rosario, success coach and author, discovered when she finally decided to take action to start changing her dire circumstances. In this episode, Angelina will share her incredible story of resilience and growth. [Summer Playlist] This Is NOT the End: The Key to Overcoming Toxic Work Environment | HDM 196
Did you know that according to studies conducted by Andrew Naber, an organizational psychologist, the average person spends roughly 90,000 hours at work in a lifetime? It’s wild. Since work is such an important part of our lives, spending our days in an unsupportive and draining environment (aka, a job with toxic work conditions) definitely has the potential to turn our lives upside down. But, what do you do when this unfortunate situation becomes your reality? Is it possible to find a way out? That’s exactly what Doris Quintanilla, founder of the Melanin Collective, will attempt to answer in today’s episode. It’s Sunday evening and your body knows it. As soon as the day starts to fade out, an annoying and anxious voice in your head starts to turn up the volume. Before you know it, your heart is racing, your palms are sweaty, and a bone-aching sense of dread, like a Siberian tiger pouncing out of nowhere, engulfs you. The proverbial Sunday Scaries, an ever-present malaise that two years ago you believed to be the name of (yet another) over-hyped cereal brand, is paying his regular weekly visit. The reason? The prospect of facing yet another work week is making your stomach turn. Admitting this, however, is not easy. At the end of the day, you still love what you do —you find meaning and joy in your career. The real problem (or, as some would say, the only problem) is that the work environment where you currently operate is sucking your soul out. It may be an unresponsive/unsupportive manager, passive-aggressive coworkers, long and exhausting working hours or unrealistic expectations from the leadership team —you name it. Regardless of the circumstances, the problem remains: doing your job has become a race to the bottom that slowly (but oh, very steadily) is running you dry. If this situation sounds familiar, here goes the million-dollar question: how do you get out of this space? How can you recover your peace at work? Is there an actual way out of a toxic work environment? In this week’s episode, Doris Quintanila, founder of the Melanin Collective, will share her key to surviving toxic work environments. In this episode you will learn: The impact marching the streets, helping in fundraisers, and an abundance of determination had in her personal life. The story of how her work environment soured up after suffering a concussion. Her best tip to help you survive and overcome a toxic work environment. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/196The post, This Is NOT the End: The Key to Overcoming Toxic Work Environment | HDM 196 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

[Summer Playlist] Harnessing the Power of Believing in Yourself | HDM 199
Did you know that believing in your capacity to make things happen (aka, believing in yourself) plays a huge role in the outcome of your projects and plans? It may not seem like a big deal, but a lack of belief can actually hinder you in ways that are hard to calculate with a simple spreadsheet. In this episode, I’ll share with you why belief in yourself is so important and what to do to cultivate this skill. Have you ever had a project in which you meticulously planned every step? In fact, everything was so well thought out in advance that you were certain this thing was going to turn out to be nothing short of amazing…except it didn’t. And now, with the advantage of hindsight on your side, you can finally start to see there was indeed a missing ingredient: belief. Or to be more specific: a lack of belief in yourself (and your skills).A lack of belief that, more often than not, translates into a lack of trust in your ability to make things happen. In this episode, we are going to dig deep and discuss what’s the role of belief in your everyday life and what you can do to harness its power. [Summer Playlist] A Journey Towards Financial Resilience | HDM 198
Have you ever heard the story of someone who managed to overcome a dire financial situation and immediately thought “I would love to know how they did it”? I know I have! As any curious human would do, I’m always on the lookout for stories that showcase what others have done to overcome hurdles, especially if those roadblocks were money-related. In this episode, Kara Perez, the founder of Bravely Go, an award-winning financial education company, will share with us how she overcame some major financial challenges and how the experience shaped her. Financial resilience is probably one of the most important skills you will ever develop. The ability to bounce back from setbacks and be strategic when organizing your priorities will always serve you well. The only problem with this? A huge catch-22: to develop financial resilience you have to “walk the talk”, as Kara Perez's story aptly demonstrates. Kara grew up on the East Coast and, just as many of us do, she was raised in an environment where money was tight. And yet, at the tender age of 24, she decided that enough was enough and managed to pay back her student loans, fix her finances, and build a community that teaches people how to make sustainable money choices. In this week’s episode, Kara will share with us her story and the big takeaways she got out of her journey. In this episode you will learn: Kara’s story on becoming financially resilient. Thought-provoking insights on the gender wealth gap and why this matters. Two things Latinas can do to minimize the impact of the gender wealth gap. If you are the type of person who also thrives when a handy checklist is provided, and you’ve been wanting to do some financial re-organization, I’ve got you covered. In this episode, I will share the 4-step checklist that I regularly use to review my finances whenever I feel some extra organization may be in order. When was the last time you had an incredibly productive day? The kind of day when the stars magically align and, out of the blue, you become a task-crushing machine that just makes stuff happen? I’ll be the first to admit that, for me, a day like this doesn’t happen as often as I would like, but regardless of that one thing is certain: the productivity gods do tend to visit more when I plan my day with intention. And that planning usually involves a carefully curated checklist. Whether it is for tackling my list of regular chores, getting a headstart on an important project, or doing a healthy dose of financial reviewing, checklists are an essential tool in my planning kit. And because I know so many of us have the nagging tendency to postpone tasks that we perceive as complex or time-consuming, especially when it comes to finances (yes Tax Filing, I’m looking at you), I’ve created a 4-step checklist that will allow you to do a quick but thorough overview of the current state of your finances. In this episode you will learn: Why you should consider using a checklist to organize yourself and stay on track with all the different aspects of your finances.Insights on how to set up realistic and achievable goals. [Summer Playlist] Overcoming a Financial Crisis Without Losing Yourself: A Rule of Thumb | HDM 337
Have you ever found yourself in a financial situation that just feels hopeless? Whether it is massive credit card debt or student loans with balances that never actually shrink, at some point in our lives, almost everyone has walked through this long, dark-ish corridor, and it’s not a great place to be. And yet, one fact remains: overcoming a financial crisis might be hard, but it’s not impossible. In this week’s episode, our guest Nashira Lynton will share how she managed to get out of a dire financial situation without losing her sense of self in the process. Money is something we all think about. Not doing so it’s almost impossible: we all have bills to pay, groceries to buy, and loved ones to take care of. However, when it comes to assessing the health of your financial situation, admitting (especially to yourself) that you are, in fact, living through a seemingly endless financial crisis, with no end in sight, is one of the most challenging things ever. Accepting that you are in a dire money situation evokes all sorts of negative emotions and associations: shame, anxiety, the fear of being judged, and, most commonly, a profound sense of hopelessness. So here goes the million-dollar question: is it possible to get out of that stressful, mentally taxing place and move on with life? This week’s HDM guest, Nashira Lynton, is living proof that there’s indeed a way out. Nashira is a financial therapist and owner of Renewed Wealth Therapy. She has helped families pay off cars, reduce debt, build wealth, and decrease financial stress. In this episode you will learn: The simple question you should ask yourself to help you have a deeper understanding of your current mindset (so you can make a shift that aligns with you). How therapy can help you unlock your financial potential and achieve your money goals.Understanding how the financial missteps of our parents can have a negative impact on our lives. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/337The post, [Summer Playlist] Overcoming a Financial Crisis Without Losing Yourself: A Rule of Thumb | HDM 337 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

[Summer Playlist] Beliefs and Values: The Key to Your Financial Success? | HDM 288
Have you ever felt disconnected from your money? As if you and your wallet had nothing in common? Maybe you have even caught yourself saying things like “It’s just money, we’ll be ok” whenever you lose some, or “I’ll figure something out” when, financially, things don’t go as planned. The weirdest thing is that, even if today you are not in a financially tough spot, money is not exactly flowing into your hands. If this disconnect rings true, would you believe me if I said that a lack of clarity about your values and beliefs around money might be the main culprit? Well, today’s episode might make you change your mind. At this stage of the game, we all have a general idea of how important values and beliefs are in our daily lives, especially when it comes to all things money management. In fact, for most people, the relationship that exists between them and their money depends almost entirely on the type of beliefs they have about it. Do you see money as a source of conflict and future anxiety? Then dealing with your finances may not be your favorite activity in the world. Of course, the opposite is also true: if you believe that money is a tool that can help you maximize your impact, you’ll be eager to learn more. So, what can you do if your current money beliefs and values need a lil’ overhaul? For this week’s episode, I had an enlightening conversation with Pedro Sanchez Jr, a leadership and financial coach with a huge mission: empower the Latino community through financial literacy. Pedro shared with us why values and beliefs around money are crucial for having healthy finances and what you can do to elevate yours. In this episode you will learn: All about Pedro's core values and their origin story. Why Pedro decided to teach financial literacy to the Latino community.Pedro’s take on the biggest financial challenges in the community. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/288The post, [Summer Playlist] Beliefs and Values: The Key to Your Financial Success? | HDM 288 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

[Summer Playlist] Figuring Your Way To Financial Freedom with Gidget Benitez | HDM 188
Picture the following scenario. You’re at the bank, reviewing the contract for the new savings account that you’re about to open when you stumble upon a term you’ve never seen before. You reread the sentence, trying to figure it out and make sense of the language, but the terms are just not ringing a bell. What do you do? Do you bring the issue to the attention of the Account executive, asking for further clarification, or do you just let it slide? If you are the type of person who would rather forget the whole situation instead of taking the risk of looking bad, this week’s episode with Gidget Benitez is a must-listen.I get it: openly admitting that you don’t know or understand something that everyone else seems to get right away is not easy. The fear of being judged for our lack of knowledge of things that everyone considers “essential” can push us to hide and pretend we get it when we actually don’t. Some people even seem to believe that feigning understanding is the only way to operate and make things move forward (#gasp). But, what if I told you that raising your hand every single time you don’t get something is a better way to go? And even better: what if you could hear firsthand the story of someone who managed to figure her finances out by adopting this attitude? Would you be curious to know more? If you are, then stay tuned because this week’s interview with Gidget Benitez will surely inspire you to take some bold action. Gidget is the creator and producer of Afro Latina, a podcast dedicated to sharing tips for African and Latina women interested in becoming lawyers. In this episode you will learn: The story behind the financial struggles Gidget endured. [Summer Playlist] The Key to Reclaim Your Money Skills & Confidence | HDM 179
Have you ever found yourself questioning your hard-earned money skills time and time again? Maybe you’ve spent months (or years) learning all there is to know about investing and budgeting. You’ve done the courses, attended the webinars, read the books, and even chatted with professionals and qualified advisors. And yet, for some reason, when it comes to owning your knowledge, of saying “heck yes” to your budding money skills, something in you wavers. You hesitate. You feel uncomfortable and out of place accepting that yes, you have become financially literate. Sounds familiar? Then this week’s convo with Kayla Nedza may make you reconsider. Let’s be honest: putting your most honest, confident, and self-assured money self out in the world is no easy feat. In fact, when it comes to owning your money skills (and knowledge!) a weird paradox usually pops up: the more you know about a topic, the less confident you feel about the accuracy of your claims and beliefs (btw, this is why most subject matter experts always respond to questions with what seems to be vague “it depends”. It’s not that they don’t know —it’s just that they are trying to avoid over-generalizations). This is why in this week’s episode our guest, Kayla Nedza, will walk us through two key money lessons that will help you to finally take ownership of your money skills and grow your confidence. In this episode you will learn: How Kayla’s dad set her up for success from early on.Why grace and compassion are an integral part of every money journey. One big money challenge Kayla is tackling today. [Summer Playlist] Lessons Learned From Frugality | HDM 181
Are you always “saving” on little things here and there? You may not be the type of person who consistently saves 10% of their income for retirement, but anyone who knows you can tell you’re the queen of frugality. Between avoiding brand names at the grocery store (in favor of the Store Brand) and being a die-hard fan of a zero-waste lifestyle (did anyone say reused Mason jars?), you are the living embodiment of the frugal person. But, do you know how much money you are actually saving through your frugal lifestyle? Or, are these imaginary savings just that —a pretty illusion? As a self-declared frugal person, a close friend of mine is always looking for new ways to save a couple hundred extra dollars a month. For the past six months, saving on fuel has become one of her biggest goals. On a regular recharging day, she travels to the other side of her city to refuel at a tiny gas station that charges 30% less than her regular Shell station. That sounds like a sweet deal…until you consider her regular station is just one block away from her apartment, but the cheaper place is 45 minutes away #gasp. My friend’s example comes to my mind whenever I say that, sometimes, being the most frugal person doesn’t always help your bottom line. Our brains are so complex that, sometimes, being ultra-focused on saving a few dollars doesn't allow us to see the forest for the trees. And you know what’s the most perplexing part? This mistake is more common than you think. This is why in this week’s episode, I want to talk about frugality and the traps usually associated with our reflex of trying to cut down on expenses when finances are tight. In this episode you will learn: Why frugality, by itself, is not enough to improve your financial situation. The 3 things you have to do to leverage a frugal lifestyle. One question you NEED to ask yourself before going frugal. Four Numbers You Need to Start Tracking Today | HDM 402
If you have a budget, I’m sure you know why keeping track of your expenses is important. What you probably don’t know is that daily ins and outs are not the only numbers worth tracking. In fact, if you want to truly stay on top of your finances there are four numbers you should keep an eye on. In this episode, I’ll share what these numbers are, how to keep up with them, and why tracking them will make a difference in the long run. Keeping track of your expenses is an essential part of budgeting: there’s just no way around it. However, I get why you might find this whole expense tracking thing a little bit tedious (or just plain boring!), especially if you are new-ish to budgeting and you’re still working on creating a system that works for you. If that sounds all too familiar, this week’s episode might be just what you need. Today, we’ll start with a quick review of the basics of expense tracking (a lil’ refresher is always welcome!) and why it’s important to keep up with those numbers. Then, we’ll move on to the nitty-gritty of this week’s topic: four not-so-common numbers that you should keep in mind when evaluating your finances. Most people don’t usually see big, drastic changes in these numbers month over month, but that doesn’t make them less important. Keeping a close eye on them will not only give you valuable info on your current financial situation, it will also help you find all sorts of growth opportunities. In this episode you will learn: Why expense tracking doesn’t have to be tedious.3 expense types to keep up with (and why they matter).4 numbers that are not that common, but are worth keeping in your tracker. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/402The post, Four Numbers You Need to Start Tracking Today | HDM 402 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Money Rules That Don’t Have To Do With Money? | HDM 401
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear “money rules”? If you’re anything like me, you probably think about complicated must-dos, or old-as-time financial practices that, by now, are pretty much set in stone. But, what if I told you that money rules don’t have to be inflexible (or even tied to money per se) to be effective and life-changing? Would you believe me? Well, let’s put that to the test! In today’s episode, I’ll share with you 8 money rules that have helped me take my money management to a whole new level. If every time you hear the words “money rules” you hear the distant echo of Scrooge McDuck rigidly screaming “I made my money by being tougher than the toughies and smarter than the smarties!”, maybe it’s time to reconsider your approach to the concept of “rules” (plot twist: being inflexible is not part a money rule job description! #notreally). Here’s the deal: when it comes to money management & finances, having rules that work is crucial. Not only they will help you make better decisions (and in less time), but they can also reduce the mental load that usually comes with money management. However, just because rules are important it doesn’t mean they have to be rigid or set in stone. In fact. It’s quite the opposite! My experience has taught me that the best money rules are those that are tailored to my situation and thus resonate deeply with my personal money story. And you know what? You can also have rules like these. This is why, in this episode, I’ll share with you 8 money rules that have helped me take my money management to a whole new level. In this episode you will learn: The reason why not all money rules have to be about money (#gasp!)How to set up money rules that work for you… when you are rule-averse.Why creating your own money rules is 100% possibleFor a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/401The post, Money Rules That Don’t Have To Do With Money? | HDM 401 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

400 Episodes and STILL Going: Lessons Learned From the Podcasting Trenches | HDM 400
It’s happening! With this episode, Her Dinero Matters is officially hitting the 400-episode mark! To celebrate, I’ve put together a special episode that will break our traditional format but in a fun way! This week I’m sharing Her Dinero Matters Origin Story with you and the lessons I’ve taken home after recording 400 weekly episodes (#wild!). For most people (myself included), 400 may not feel like a huge number, but whenever I say out loud that I’ve spent almost nine years recording weekly podcast episodes to help women improve their relationships with money, I always get a shocked stare. NINE YEARS! That’s a lifetime. And I’m sure that lifetime magic is what contributes to making this episode feel extra special. It all started in 2015 when podcasts that talked to women about money were not a very common sight. Yes, podcasting and financial advice in general existed, but the offer available back in the day did not match the specific vision I had in my head: a space where we could come together as women to talk about money, our money stories, and how those have impacted the way we lead our financial lives. Her Dinero Matters was born from that vision. Over the years, the podcast has evolved and shifted directions in various ways. Not only that: recording hundreds of interviews with all sorts of amazing guests has also taught me precious lessons that I wouldn’t have learned otherwise. This special episode aims to celebrate all that!In this episode you will learn: A deep-dive into Her Dinero Matters Origin Story.Lessons learned after recording 400 episodes.Featured feedback from listeners! We all know about the importance of getting better at managing our finances, but many people come face to face with a giant wall when it comes to the practical side of things. Is there a specific routine or a way of doing things that facilitates everything? And if there is, how can you start implementing those best practices in your financial management? In this week’s episode, I’m going to share how I manage our household finances, the systems I use, and the things that could be improved. I don’t know if it’s just me, but with the boom of AI, I feel nowadays everyone is talking about systems and automation. Financial conversations are not the exception. While I am a huge fan of saving precious time by automating tasks, I also recognize that building effective systems to better manage your finances takes time and a good chunk of trial and error. This is why in this week’s episode I’ve decided to share how I manage our household finances. I’ll talk about the systems that work for us, how I’ve built them, and some things that are still a work in progress (because, let’s be honest, when it comes to managing finances. there’s no such thing as perfection. If you are a regular consumer of financial content (hello podcasts!) and someone asked you for a quick recap of the five, most valuable lessons you’ve uncovered so far, what would your answer be? Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about all the money advice that just exists out there in the world. I’ve been working in this industry for more than ten years now (!) and despite the massive amount of financial content that is poured every day into the internet, there are foundational topics that, to this day, still don’t get much attention. Yes, we all “know” about the importance of having a budget, planning our expenses, thinking about retirement early on, and, in general, all those financial how-to’s that, once mastered, make your life easier. Four Purchases That Improved My Life | HDM 397
You might have learned that not spending money on things you don’t really need is the best (and, quite possibly, the only) way to save money in the long run. But, what if I told you that buying things that you want can lead to saving some extra money? In this week’s episode, I’ll share with you four purchases that improved my life (and added some extra joy!). If you got most of your financial education from old-school financial advisors, you might be all too familiar with the most important “spending” rule ever: don’t waste your money buying things that you don’t need. This includes stuff like clothing, fancy trips, expensive gadgets, a second car, and, in general, anything that is not an essential need (think food and shelter). While there’s nothing wrong with this advice, the harsh truth is that, in real life, Needs and Wants are rarely two well-defined and distinct categories. In fact, both are quite subjective: your Needs and Wants will vary depending on your circumstances, the place where you live, your cultural context and the season of life you’re currently moving through (among other things). So, how can you learn to distinguish between them? In this episode, I’ll share with you four purchases that ended up improving my life in so many ways. My goal is to give you some food for thought and inspire you to consider your spending habits with a new perspective. In this episode you will learn: Why well-intentioned advice, such as “just splurge less”, often falls flat. The reason why “Needs” and “Wants” are not set in stone.Four purchases that initially felt like splurges, but ended up giving me joy (and saving me some money!)For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/397The post, Four Purchases That Improved My Life | HDM 397 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

Are Your Money Habits Keeping You Stuck? | HDM 396
If you want to achieve financial success, building solid money habits is a non-negotiable. Intellectually, almost everyone knows and agrees with that statement. But, how do you choose which habits to build? That’s the million-dollar question. In this week’s episode, I’ll share with you the four money habits that can have the biggest impact on your money confidence journey. Every self-help book or personal development coach seems to agree on one thing: if you are trying to transform one area of your life, the first thing you gotta do is build good habits. But, what is exactly a good habit? And who decides which ones fall into this category? That is the quintessential question. When it comes to improving your finances, habits such as saving consistently and spending less will almost always pop up in any finance-related conversation. However, how can you know if building these will help you move the needle of your plan forward? Because let’s be honest: there is such a thing as picking the wrong habit (#gasp). And since building these behavioral patterns is not that easy (plot twist: gaining real momentum usually takes more than 21 days), you want to be sure the time and energy you’ll be investing in acquiring a new habit will eventually pay off. In this episode, I’ll share with you some insights on the importance of picking (and building!) money habits that bring in a genuine bang. In this episode you will learn: Why so many financial habits are not worth your energy and time and what you can do instead. Two habits that seem crucial to have, but actually can be automated.Four key money habits that will bring you more bang for your time. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/396The post, Are Your Money Habits Keeping You Stuck? | HDM 396 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.
