It’s not always easy, but it’s possible because love is what heals — and love is what we are at our core. When we can access that deeper part of ourselves, that higher vibration of love, it begins to shift the stuck energy that trauma leaves behind. I see trauma as energy that was too overwhelming to process at the time, so it gets stored in the body, the heart, the mind. That stuckness can cast long shadows, sometimes for years. Shadow work isn’t about fighting the shadow itself, it’s about meeting and transforming the energy that creates it. Light always dissolves dark, and love always transmutes fear. When we open up those hidden places within us — often slowly, carefully, with support we trust — the shift happens. Each layer we heal creates more space, more stillness, and more connection to the truth of who we are. At our essence, we are not the dark, we are the spark of the divine — eternal soul, infinite love — having this human experience. And nothing can destroy that. On a soul level, both of these exist within us. The feminine aspect longs for union, belonging, and returning to oneness. The masculine aspect seeks individuation — to know ourselves as a unique, creative drop in the ocean of the divine. It can feel like a tension, but it’s really a dance between two essential forces. We often hear about fight and flight, which are the outward expressions. But freeze and please are more inward, and I’ve noticed over the years that stronger people, those with more capacity to take responsibility for themselves, often lean on these strategies. Both freeze and please are survival strategies, and both can follow us into adulthood, showing up as hiding away, difficulty setting boundaries, or always putting others first. Understanding these patterns is powerful, because it helps us see how our trauma responses developed and how they may still be playing out today. And most importantly, it’s worth remembering: these inward reactions, as tough as they are, come from a place of enormous strength. Do you find yourself ghosting, running, or raging?

The first two – fight and flight – are outward, automatic responses. We don’t choose them; they’re our subconscious body–mind going on autopilot, trying to protect us. The problem is, these reactions can be completely out of proportion to what’s actually happening now. When we’re triggered, we can be pulled back to an early trauma, and all that old energy comes rushing out in the present. In fight mode, that might look like rage or attack – even directed at someone who’s innocent. In flight mode, it might be ghosting, running, leaving situations or even whole relationships. These reactions are primitive survival strategies, but left unchecked they can be so damaging – to our relationships, our work, and our lives. That’s why doing the inner work matters. When we start clearing the underlying energy, we have more choice, more control, and gradually those automatic reactions ease and heal. Don’t underestimate your power and strength to heal

Our power to heal doesn’t come from the small, separated self. Healing is love dissolving fear, the greater self subsuming the contracted parts of us that are stuck in trauma. When we’ve been through abuse, neglect, criticism, or any difficult experience, what remains is residue, that stuck energy. Therapy is about bringing the loving, gentle awareness of our greater self, our soul, to those wounded parts. As adults, we already have resources, wisdom, and love that we didn’t have as children. And when we open to our soul, we have even more light to bring to those darkened places. Your ability to heal is built into who you are. You are an eternal child of the Divine, nothing can change or destroy that. Don’t underestimate your strength, courage, wisdom, and love. No part of you is beyond healing. Along the way, we can pick up a lot of traumatic residue, and that’s what I’m here to help with. I’m a psychotherapist, psychologist, and Clinical Hypnotherapist, and my life’s work has been helping people through significant difficulties—usually childhood trauma, but plenty of adult trauma too. Trauma comes in two forms: overt (getting what we don’t need, like being attacked or criticised) and covert (not getting what we do need, like love, attention, and support). Overt trauma is more obvious; covert trauma is hidden and can leave deep, invisible wounds. We often start healing with the obvious trauma before uncovering the hidden patterns. Symptomatic ways to know we’re living under the weight of invisible childhood trauma

Trauma is stuck energy, stuck life experience that hasn’t moved through. It weighs us down like a heavy ballast. And if we’re not clearing it, we’ll feel the burden of it even more. A lot of trauma is invisible. Childhood trauma especially can be really deep, really buried — things we had to push down just to survive. That doesn’t mean it’s not having an impact. It just means we’re incredibly creative and powerful at surviving. But surviving and healing are two different things. These unresolved experiences live on in our body-mind — in our subconscious, in our emotions, even in our cells. They show up as symptoms: anxiety, depression, rage, people-pleasing, withdrawal, ADHD, addictions. We need our therapy, our hypnotherapy, our inner work, our kinesiology, our breathwork — whatever helps unjam the energy and move it through. It’s not easy, but it’s possible. The rollercoaster ride of healing from trauma
In this video, I explore how healing isn’t a linear process. It doesn’t just move in a smooth upward line. Inner work tends to happen in cycles—what I call rinse cycles—where something difficult or unresolved comes up for healing. You might feel triggered, emotional, or completely in the muck of it. It’s messy, uncomfortable, and very real. But if you stay with it—if you face it, feel it, and work through it—something powerful happens. That energy shifts. You come out the other side lighter, freer, with more space in your system. That’s progress. And it tends to follow a pattern: shadow work, then a sense of relief or expansion… then the next layer rises. It can feel like going in circles, but if you zoom out, you’re actually spiralling upward. It’s completely normal to feel like you’ve gone backwards when you hit a tough patch. But you haven’t. It’s just the next layer. Each round brings deeper healing and greater freedom. In the video, I reflect on the ways unmet childhood needs can lead us to unconsciously seek that same care and security from partners, bosses, even spiritual beliefs—when in fact, no one else can truly fill that space for us. That’s why learning to re-parent ourselves is such a vital part of healing. We do that by turning inward, using our adult strengths—our capacity for love, patience, wisdom—and offering them to the parts of ourselves that still feel stuck or scared. Why we need to become comfortable with Anger

We’re taught it’s dangerous or destructive, but that’s only one side of the story. When anger comes from fear, it can show up as aggression—lashing out, hurting others, or turning inward as self-loathing, criticism, or even self-harm. That fear-based expression is destructive, and we’ve all seen how it can play out, from fights at sporting events to wars. But anger itself isn’t the problem. At its core, anger is a powerful energy. It’s our will in action—it gives us a spine, a sense of determination, and the ability to say, “No, this isn’t right for me.” When we express our will from love, not fear, it’s not aggression—it’s assertiveness. It’s gentle, peaceful, but firm. Like the story of Jesus clearing the temple, it’s about saying, “This isn’t okay,” and standing in that truth with quiet authority. So today, I want to invite you to reframe your relationship with anger. See it as an ally, as a friend. It’s a force we all need at times—to set boundaries, to make things happen, to live in alignment with our deepest values. Without it, we’re like jellyfish—without structure, without direction. We’ve already looked at tools like breathing, movement, singing, and Qigong. Today, I’m sharing two more really helpful ways to support yourself when you’re in that dysregulated state: connecting with nature and using cold exposure. Nature helps us ground when we’re triggered. That could be standing barefoot on the grass, walking in the bush, hugging a tree, or just looking at the sky. We are nature, and getting back into connection with it can be deeply calming. Animals are also a powerful part of this. Playing with your dog or cat, listening to birds, or spending time with any animal that brings you joy—these connections help regulate us too. The animal kingdom is already in balance, and being around them can gently bring us back into harmony. Cold exposure is another tool—ice on the back of the neck, cold water on the wrists or face, or even a short cold shower can all help calm the nervous system by stimulating the vagus nerve. When we’re activated, we don’t have to stay stuck there. These simple tools can support you to come back to calm. When we start to look at traumatic stress from a broader, more spiritual perspective, we begin to ask: What positives can come out of the negatives? What growth or evolution can come from struggle and adversity? Instead of judging trauma purely on a human level—as something only bad—we start to consider that there may be gifts hidden within the pain and wounding. We begin to see there’s something purposeful underneath it all. Things like strength, resilience, courage, empathy, compassion, understanding, and wisdom—these are qualities that often only emerge from challenge. They don’t typically come from the easy. This perspective helps us heal. It reminds us that beneath all the difficult, messy layers of post-traumatic stress, there are actual gifts. And recognise that it can support our process of healing and release. How to use being triggered as a healing opportunity

Triggering is a colloquial word for when a memory, an old emotion, or something stuck in our process—stuck in our experience—gets brought to the surface. It can be triggered by an event, something we see on TV, or a song on the radio—it can be anything—even the temperature. Something activates the memory, and suddenly, we’re swamped with strong emotion, unsure of what’s going on. We tend to relate to this negatively because what comes up—if it’s stuck—is, by definition, something difficult. In fact, it can be very intense and very painful. But as we get more used to working with it—usually starting with a therapist to learn how—we can begin to recognise what’s happening and work with the material. The part of us that’s coming up is doing so for healing. Over time, we can get more confident using those moments of being triggered to our advantage. They’re healing opportunities. Why Separation is Part of Your Spiritual Growth

At the top, there’s harmony, unity, and wholeness. That’s where we came from, and deep down, it’s what we long for. But in that unity, we were half asleep, dissolved in oneness. The masculine aspect of the soul wanted to experience itself as an individual, while the feminine longs to return to unity. So, we ventured out—into separation, into duality, into the human experience. Constantly experiencing contrast: light and dark, hot and cold, joy and sorrow. The desire to know ourselves in this polarity prods our consciousness, leading to growth, awareness, and the evolution of our soul. But separation is hard. It can be painful. And so, like the prodigal son, we feel the pull to return to unity. Through healing, therapy, and spiritual growth, we find our way back—not as we were, but with a conscious awareness of self. It’s the out-breath and in-breath of God, the tide going out and coming back in. There’s purpose in duality, even in struggle. Seeing it this way helps in healing, in letting go. The Soul Warrior book I’m writing explores this—how trauma healing is deepened by spiritual understanding. When we recognise light and dark as part of our evolution, it doesn’t take away the pain, but it helps make sense of it. Brave you, for venturing into separation and duality. Just as Earth has its own gravitational pull, so does the divine. I call it God Gravity—a force that calls us, pulls us, guides us, and leads us with absolute accuracy on our journey back to the ocean. We might find ourselves in the mountains—a little pool, a small stream, a tiny rivulet. Lost, separated, and feeling far from our source. And yet, there is a purpose in that journey. But God’s gravity is always pulling us back to the ocean. Just as water inevitably finds its way home, so will we—returning, in time, to the absolute, greater reality of who and what we truly are. Loving your inner critic
Loving your Inner Critic A common problem for people, especially trauma survivors, is a loud and vicious inner critic. This part attacks self in harsh, angry judgments. It doesn’t stop attacking until we have collapsed in a powerless, guilty mess. My personal and professional experience with inner critic is a repetitive message that cuts us down and keeps us in our place. It sabotages success and joy, undermining positive experiences and feedback from others. It keeps us small and shamed. When we reframe the critical voice with gentle curiosity, we find a strong part of self trying to protect us. By getting in first with the attack, we avoid a greater blow when the abusive parent, sibling or partner attacks us. Better to be in control of the process rather than caught by surprise. Better from inside than outside. So turn our attitude around 180 degrees. Trust me, this part loves you and will do it’s new job with the same consistent dedication as before. Now it builds you up into the self-love you deserve. Reframing our Inner Darker Parts
Our human nature is to fear and reject anything unfamiliar, different or intense. We push away the strange and uncomfortable because that helped us survive in the past. Doing our inner work however, we need to over-ride that tendency. So many parts of us - old emotions, negative beliefs, traumatic memories - show up in confronting ways. Avoiding or suppressing them will only prolong our symptoms and suffering. Therapy is a messy, uncomfortable process because we are unpacking the endarkened parts within us. It is not for the faint of heart. Yet by facing our wounds with gentle acceptance, reframing them as hurt rather than bad, we shift the stuck energies. Once freed of the burdens, these parts reintegrate. Our inner children come home. So next time you notice yourself judging a part of yourself - a thought, a feeling, a behaviour - pause to remember every part of you is important. Once reframed as not negative, but a scared, shamed, angry aspect of yourself crying out for help, the healing begins. Trauma survivor therapy and soul growth happen in parallel For our healing tree to soar into the sky of our potentials, the roots need to be deep, strong and healthy. We can only grow into mature, soul power in parallel with robust shadow work. To move from trauma survivor into soul warrior, we are not ignoring or rejecting our wounded human parts; we need to address them head on. By processing them with courageous love, our roots flourish and space is created for upward expansion. A solid human foundation, carved out of challenges resolved, supports our search for greater truth. Inner work and spiritual awakening are correlated in the other direction too. A spiritual practice expands our consciousness; we remember our true Self and draw on the unlimited love, peace and wisdom that live within us. This light makes it easier to shine away the shadows and let the pain of the past go. A caution: focusing only on one direction gets us stuck. Just doing the heavy lifting of therapy becomes exhausting and discouraging. We might be shifting old emotions, but without better feelings to replace them, can end up churning in circles. We are moving in the mud but not getting out of it. And to only do spiritual practices, without addressing our wounded parts directly, makes us top heavy. Fine when we are on the mat, but the first puff of wind blows us over. This has been called spiritual bypassing. Trauma never healed through denial. So, dear soul warrior, do both in parallel. Access great Love every day, and bring it to your endarkened parts. Transmuted trauma becomes the foundation for enduring, powerful presence. Earth School is hard, but the benefits are huge
If you thought that human existence is challenging, you would be correct. Turning up here and dealing with it all is an intense rollercoaster ride, the biggest and scariest ride in the cosmic theme park. Apparently only the bravest of souls take on earth school. It is certainly not for the faint of heart. Down here we have to deal with: - Physical body of dense, material energy - Insecurity of constant change in time and space - Extreme polarity of emotions, from wonderful peaks to devastating lows - Illusory experience of separation from others - Forgetting our spiritual Self, sense of vulnerable isolation The risks of getting lost and buried beneath the traumatic pain are great. It is inevitable that we take on patterns, beliefs and wounding that go deep. The consequences of being born on this messy, confused planet are inevitably complex. Thankfully we have as many lifetimes as required to sort it all through. The upside to this journey is that our soul evolution is turbo charged. The severe dynamics of human life put us through a vast range of strong feelings, growing our empathy, compassion and wisdom. I wanted to talk with you today about our journey out of soul state and into the earth. You’ve probably worked out by now that I’m more your holistic psychologist, and my passion is bridging the gap between the psychological and the spiritual. There’s an invisible ceiling I’ve seen people hit in their healing — especially when working through deep trauma like childhood abuse or neglect. If we don’t have any spiritual life happening, we can get stuck in survivor mode. But when we expand our mind, our consciousness, we remember who we really are — beyond time and space, beyond body, brain and personality. We remember we are beloved children of the Divine, eternal souls, love beings. That’s where we start to make sense of what we’ve been through. We see the reasons, the gifts that come out of these incredible challenges. It’s not easy to be here. It takes so much courage to take on a human incarnation. Soul warrior qualities
If you’re listening, you’ve probably been through some significant challenges in your life—maybe childhood trauma, adult trauma, or even what I’d call omission trauma, where there was a lack of love, emotional support, or severe neglect. These experiences can be completely debilitating, leaving us frozen in complex post-traumatic stress and barely able to function. But here’s the thing—I believe there’s good that can come out of the bad. Through these challenges, strengths, qualities, and resources can develop. I’ve had the privilege of working with so many amazing people who have been through incredibly difficult experiences, and yet, they’re here. They’ve managed to survive, to drag themselves through those ordeals, and they’re determined to heal and grow. It’s remarkable, isn’t it? These qualities of strength, wisdom, empathy, courage, and will—they’re what I call the “gifts of trauma.” They don’t come easy, and they don’t come cheap, but they become part of who we are, our “soul personality.” Sometimes we get stuck in thinking, “This shouldn’t have happened. This is all bad.” And yes, a lot of things happen that aren’t even in the soul blueprint—there’s a lot of free will, and things go wrong. But we can make good out of bad; we can make lemonade out of lemons. And I feel so privileged to work with people who, despite terrible origins, turn it around to be stronger, to be better parents, or to have the courage to show up and seek help. If you’re listening to this, maybe you’re one of those people who have the strength to catalyse trauma into these remarkable qualities. Not everyone can do this. But those who can, who have the maturity to hold it and own it, develop a resilience that’s extraordinary. It’s like a sword being tempered by flames and hammered on the anvil into a fine blade. And at the core, underneath all the messy residue, is this incredible strength. Just being here, listening, is a testament to the strength you’ve acquired through those struggles. On some level, they already know something is going on. But before you dive in, make sure you’ve done enough work on your own healing, so there’s less charge when you bring it up. Omission Trauma is just as damaging as physical abuse
In this week’s episode, we explore the concept of traumas of omission. Trauma isn’t just about the bad things that happen to us, but also the good things that never did. It’s easy to recognise acts of commission, such as physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. These experiences are clearly damaging, and as children, we can often stay conscious of them because we can feel and see the harm. But what about the traumas we can’t see? Traumas of omission stem from the absence of things we needed as children, like support, connection, or protection. These forms of neglect can go unnoticed, even though they have a huge impact on our development. The wounds caused by not being cared for or protected can leave us feeling unsafe and disconnected, sometimes even harder to heal than the obvious attacks of an abuser. Many of us have repressed these traumas, but they can follow us into adulthood, shaping our relationships and sense of self. We're moving into times of great change
In this episode I discuss how we're moving through a photon band right now, and it's having a big effect on our consciousness and bodies. Along with that, we're also entering a period of peak solar flares, which can cause fatigue, headaches, and make existing physical issues worse. It’s really important to support our bodies with exercise, good food, water, and sleep. Emotionally, I’ve noticed a lot more activation in people, myself included. Old emotions and traumas are surfacing, so doing our inner work, whether it's through therapy, shadow work, or other healing practices, is crucial. The key is to take care of ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Find stillness, connect with nature, and give your mind a break from the overwhelm. . . .
