Friday evening on the rooftop, with clear skies, warm Mediterranean air and another live band waiting in the wings. I opened the evening with a warm, soulful selection of House and Deep House, gradually building the groove as the rooftop settled into the weekend. From the deeper sounds of S.A.M., Chris Stussy and Saison to familiar favorites and a few more disco-leaning moments, the set was all about creating a comfortable atmosphere without letting it become background music. As the sun went down, the energy slowly climbed. A little more groove, a little more movement, and eventually a few bigger vocal moments — just enough to get everyone ready for what was coming next. The final stretch moved toward a more uplifting house sound, ending with Franky Rizardo's remix of “Moonlight To Sunrise.” Then it was time to hand the rooftop over to the live band. Sunday surprised us. What started as another relaxed Happy Hour on the rooftop quickly turned into something much more energetic. A group of new faces discovered the music — and apparently discovered an unlimited supply of dancing energy along the way. From warm Deep House and soulful grooves through Nu Disco, House and Afro House, the rooftop gradually became a little Sunday dancefloor of its own. The music kept moving as the sun went down, with a few familiar classics, a couple of unexpected turns, and enough groove to keep everyone going. By the end, the new crowd was still dancing, the rooftop was glowing, and Sunday Happy Hour had turned into a surprisingly lively little party. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Saturday. Instead, the rooftop ended up full for the entire afternoon, with some guests even discovering there wasn't a seat and coming back later. So I settled into the groove. Starting with warm Deep House and soulful rhythms, the set gradually moved through House, and deeper grooves without ever pushing too hard. The idea was simply to create the kind of atmosphere that works on a Mediterranean rooftop — relaxed enough for a drink and conversation, but with enough movement to keep the room connected. It turned out to be exactly what the crowd wanted. The music carried on as the sun went down, moving from the warmth of Franck Roger and Sebb Junior through Nina Simone, Chris Stussy, Kolter, Hot Since 82 and Deep Dish, with the rooftop staying busy all the way into the evening. Sometimes the best sets aren't the ones where you try to make something happen. Clear blue skies, a warm Riviera sunset, and one of those late-summer afternoons that seemed to ask for nothing more than a cold drink and some good music. This session started deep and understated, gradually bringing in jazz, soul, disco and funky house as the afternoon slipped toward sunset. From St Germain and Dr Packer to Rock With You, Lady (Hear Me Tonight) and Free, the energy slowly found its way upward without ever losing that relaxed rooftop feeling. The set had to finish a little earlier than usual as the rooftop was needed for the evening's live music. So rather than force a final peak, I eased things back down with Spooky and Save a Prayer — leaving the crowd in the right place for the two acoustic guitarists who followed. A shorter Happy Hour, perhaps, but a very fitting sunset soundtrack. The final night of August, and the final Happy Hour for this particular group of guests. After Sunday's intimate rooftop session ran well past sunset, Monday brought back the same crowd for one last evening before they headed home. Knowing it was their last night, I decided not to ease into things quite as slowly as usual. We started with a little more energy, found the groove early, and never really let it go. Deep house, jackin' house, nu disco and soulful house gradually turned into a proper little rooftop party as the evening went on. And because I knew they weren't going to get another Esterel Happy Hour together, I built a few "one more" moments into the second half of the set. The sun disappeared, the lights came on, and somehow there was always another track that seemed to belong there. So we kept going. The end of August brings shorter evenings to the Côte d’Azur, but there was still plenty of life left on the Esterel rooftop. Sunday’s Happy Hour was another intimate gathering, with a few new faces settling in and gradually becoming new fans. The set started deep and soulful, slowly building through house, disco and funky grooves as the afternoon slipped toward sunset. By the time Mark Knight & Funkagenda’s “The Man With The Red Face” arrived, I thought I had found the perfect place to call it a night. Apparently, the rooftop disagreed. The crowd wanted four more tracks, so the decks stayed busy a little longer as the last light disappeared and the evening took over. Sax tools, funky house and a final bit of jazz carried us through the encore. The rain had moved in, and with the season winding down, the rooftop gave way to the bar for another indoor edition of Esterel Happy Hour. The crowd was smaller this time, and the atmosphere was decidedly relaxed — cocktails, cold beers, and a few people settling in for the evening. So rather than forcing the room into party mode, I leaned into the weather and the mood with a deep, melodic journey through Organic House, Progressive House, Afro House and Melodic House. Starting somewhere between sunset and twilight, the set gradually moved from warm organic grooves into deeper, more cinematic territory before slowly building toward the progressive end of the spectrum. Tracks from All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Deepalma and Cercle helped give the evening that spacious, slightly dreamlike feeling that seemed to fit the rainy night perfectly. It wasn't the biggest crowd of the summer, but sometimes that's exactly when you can let the music do what it wants. The season was winding down, so the rooftop wasn't quite as busy as it had been earlier in the summer. But the people who did make it up were there for the music. Starting with deep house and gradually moving through soulful house, Nu Disco, funky grooves, and a few familiar classics, this became one of those smaller Happy Hours where the crowd and the DJ could settle into their own little world. As the evening lights came on and the last days of summer slipped away, the music kept finding another groove. There wasn't a huge crowd demanding a big finale. Instead, there were a few people who simply didn't want it to stop. So I kept playing. A quieter rooftop, perhaps — but a very good way to finish another Happy Hour. Esterel Happy Hour 2026-08-26 - Waiting Out the Storm The clouds rolled in early for Wednesday's Happy Hour, but a few brave souls decided they weren't going anywhere just yet. So we settled into a warm mix of deep house, soulful grooves, disco and familiar favorites - from Spooky and The Cure & The Cause to Bad Girls, Canned Heat, Everybody's Free and Out Of Touch. The rooftop may not have been packed, but the people who stayed were treated to nearly the full 2h20 journey. For a while, it looked like we might actually make it through. A beautiful, clear Tuesday afternoon at Esterel, with the rooftop filling up nicely for another Happy Hour session. This one stayed warm and relaxed, moving between deep house, disco, soulful grooves and classic house influences. Familiar touches from Santana, Little Boots, The Heritage Orchestra and classic house cuts were woven into a steady selection of newer underground sounds, keeping the mood easygoing without ever becoming predictable. No big peaks or dramatic turns this time — just a sunny rooftop, a full crowd and a carefully paced groove carrying the afternoon toward evening. With thunderstorms threatening the evening, Monday's Happy Hour moved indoors to the bar. Rather than playing it safe, I took the opportunity to change the mood completely — a contemporary journey through Organic House, Melodic, Progressive and Afro House. Starting deep and atmospheric with Amonita, Makebo, Marsh and Sébastien Léger, the set gradually built through hypnotic grooves, melodic textures and Afro-infused rhythms. As the room warmed up, the energy followed, with RÜFÜS DU SOL, Joris Voorn, WhoMadeWho and Ben Böhmer helping take things deeper into the evening. The response was fantastic: high fives, fist bumps, and kids dancing right in front of the booth. With the outdoor Bingo cancelled by the storm, there was no reason to stop at the usual Happy Hour finish — so the music kept going. Sometimes a change of weather is exactly what you need to change the soundtrack.

Toward the end, the energy lifted just enough to send everyone downstairs toward the acrobat show with a smile. There were still plenty of familiarity anchors along the way - Paul Simon, Dave Lee ZR, Rosie Gaines, Kathy Brown, Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa, and Bob Sinclar - keeping the set accessible without pulling it back into obvious territory. The day after another Soirée Blanche, the rooftop was a little quieter than usual, so this set leaned heavily on familiarity. As the afternoon progressed, the set moved between classic House, Nu Disco and soulful grooves, with familiar touchstones like Push The Feeling On, You Got The Love, Brighter Days, Music Sounds Better With You and Bad Girls keeping the crowd connected. The second half became a little more adventurous, moving through Latin-inflected House, Disco and deeper club selections before closing with a more understated groove. A relaxed Sunday on the rooftop, and a fitting encore to the weekend. This one stayed on the subtle side - warm House, Deep House, Disco and increasingly melodic, atmospheric grooves as the afternoon moved toward sunset. Not every track needed to demand attention; some were simply there to create the right atmosphere. The centerpiece came around Star Odyssey, where the music became deeper, more introspective and hypnotic just as the sun was going down. From there, the set slowly found its way back through soulful House and warm grooves to close out another beautiful weekend above the campsite. Maybe a little too chill for some listeners. Another full rooftop at the campsite as the sun went down. This one was all about setting the tone for the evening - starting deep and soulful, moving through disco, funk, and house, then gradually bringing the energy up as the sunset gave way to night. As the crowd became a little more mature toward the end, I eased things back and let the groove do the work. A little Josh Wink, some Dave Lee, Dr Packer, Dam Swindle, David Penn, and plenty of soulful house along the way. By the end, the rooftop was ready for the band taking over the main stage. A beautiful summer afternoon turned into something a little more unusual. The set begins in familiar Esterel territory - soulful House, Disco and warm grooves - gradually moving through deeper and more atmospheric territory as the afternoon slips toward sunset. Then, toward the end, the eclipse arrived. The rooftop crowd gathered at the far end with their special glasses, everyone suddenly focused on the sky. I kept the music going, letting the set drift into Afro, Organic and Melodic House as the light changed around us. And when it was time for one last track, there was really only one choice: Another Chance. A soundtrack for an unforgettable sunset, an eclipse, and another beautiful evening on the rooftop.

Friday evening brought another warm sunset on the rooftop. While many guests gathered downstairs before the night's live entertainment, those who stayed upstairs settled into a laid-back journey through Deep House, Nu Disco and classic House grooves. Starting with warm, melodic textures before easing into soulful vocals, disco rhythms and timeless house records, this set was all about atmosphere rather than big moments. Thursday's Happy Hour started with a full rooftop and an incredible atmosphere as every seat quickly filled for another beautiful evening on the French Riviera. A family from Manchester settled in beside the DJ booth and stayed until the very last track, happily following a few unexpected musical turns along the way. This set blends uplifting Disco, Soulful House, Deep House, and Classic House with a few left-field moments that somehow felt right in the sunset atmosphere.
