Luke chapter 7 shows who Jesus is, with what kind of faith a sinner is saved, and how the life of a person who has received the remission of sins appears. When we read today’s passage, a centurion appears. A centurion is, just as the word says, a commander who has a hundred men under him. A commander of ten has ten men under him, and a commander of a thousand has a thousand men under him. These days I have several things I must do, but they are not things that come about quickly; they are things I must wait for, and so they are hard as well. Even so, since it works out if I wait in faith, I am waiting while I prepare. Recorded here is the account in which, in a city called Nain, our Lord met a widow who was weeping because of the death of her only son, and had compassion on that widow and raised her only son, the young man, back to life. While Jesus, who had been invited to the house of a Pharisee, was eating, a certain woman came in with very costly fragrant oil and poured it on the feet of Jesus and kissed them. This woman was a woman notorious in that town. She was a woman so known as a sinner that everyone acknowledged it. That woman came and wet the feet of Jesus with her tears and washed them with the hair of her head, and poured on the fragrant oil. Our Lord said, “The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17). This age in particular is an age in which we must live by faith. It is an age in which we cannot possibly live except by faith. God is even now seeking each and every lost soul. When God meets such a lost soul, He gives salvation, and He rejoices over that soul. When we look at the Word we read today, Jesus was invited to the house of a Pharisee, and a woman who was known in that town as a sinner came to Jesus with fragrant oil in an alabaster flask and stood behind Jesus at His feet and wept, and she wet His feet with her tears and washed them with the hair of her head and kissed His feet and poured on the fragrant oil. Part 1. Today I would like to share the Word with you on the question of what the reward of believing in Jesus is. The result of the faith that believes in Jesus is salvation. Then, when we believe in Jesus and receive salvation, what does the result become? We obtain and possess the kingdom of God. When we look at the Word, the people of every town came out to Jesus and formed a great multitude. Jesus spoke of the four fields of the heart through the parable of the sower. “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. We pray that the Lord will protect this nation, protect the economy as well, and guard and keep our business, the preaching of the gospel, and our health, and ward off and keep us from every danger and natural disaster. We ask Him to enlarge the site of our tent and bless us. But faith must be held in a fitting way. To those who have not even received the remission of sins, some preach sermons telling them not to worry about anything, that God protects them in everything—but with what would He protect those who have not received the remission of sins? The life of faith is denying ourselves, whether we have done well or done poorly. The life of faith starts precisely from there. Our Lord said in this passage, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23). In fact, the whole life of faith is contained in this word. The life of faith after receiving salvation is denying oneself and following the Lord. I have been to the provinces to find a church building. I think that in serving the Lord together with our ministers, and in serving the gospel from now on, there is truly much for us to do. The church of God is the place where we gather like this and praise, hear the word of God, pray to God, and can serve the gospel of God. It is something to be very thankful for that we live the life of faith in the church of God like this. But foolish people, people who are truly dull of head and know nothing but the flesh, do not know how precious this is. In the daytime worship service today we shared the word about what we must live by as our standard—that is, that we must live with our purpose set on the work of saving souls. Rather than trying to hold on to both the work of the flesh and the work of the soul by our own strength, if we offer our lives to the work of saving people’s souls, God fills up the remaining parts as well. The seventy evangelists went out to preach and returned rejoicing. They came back and reported, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name” (Luke 10:17). When they delivered the word and cast out demons in the name of the Lord, the demons actually went out. Then Jesus spoke. “And He said to them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. In this world there are not many people who know their own insufficiency. Is there anyone in this world who has been saved from all his sins? Is there anyone whose works are perfect? Were the people saved before the Lord those who could not keep the law well, or those who kept the law of God well? The correct answer is that the one who has not kept the law of God well receives salvation. The word we have read today is what our Lord spoke to a certain lawyer. People today look at this word and often make a resolve to become good people. They think that believing in Jesus is becoming a good person, and that what God wants of us is also that we become good people. And so many people misunderstand this word and wish that human beings would become truly good neighbors to people. Furthermore, cases in which human beings try to become saviors and deliverers to other human beings in place of God are extremely common. If a person knows the word of God well he is saved, but if he fits the word of God into religion and looks at the Bible only from the viewpoint of good deeds, morality, and ethics, he comes to commit a great error. If we look at the word from Luke 10:25, a lawyer appears. That lawyer asks Jesus, “what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He was a lawyer who thought as though he obtained eternal life by doing some work. https://www.bjnewlife.org/ https://youtube.com/@TheNewLifeMission https://www.facebook.com/shin.john.35

This lawyer regarded himself as different from ordinary people. He said such a thing in order to exalt himself and to be recognized by Jesus. A lawyer is a teacher of the law, a teacher among the Pharisees, and a person respected by the Jews. Today I wish to testify to the word concerning the mercy of God. If we look at today’s word, when Jesus asked the lawyer, “So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” (Luke 10:36) the lawyer answered, “He who showed mercy on him” (Luke 10:37) Then the Lord said, “Go and do likewise”, that is, you also show mercy in the same way, and it was indeed a word befitting Jesus. https://www.bjnewlife.org/ https://youtube.com/@TheNewLifeMission https://www.facebook.com/shin.john.35

A certain lawyer came out before Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” (Luke 10:25) and our Lord asked, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” (Luke 10:26) The lawyer answered, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27). The word begins in verse 25 like this: “And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, ‘Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?’” A lawyer is a teacher of the law. That man came to Jesus and asked in order to test Him. Satan the devil is the same in the old days and now. In Genesis, too, the fallen angel who opposed God enticed Adam and Eve to oppose God. “Did He say you would die if you ate of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil?
