These are the metrics that matter: MQLs and SQLs
Now and again members ask me what metrics they should be focused on and the answer is definitely not vanity metrics such as the number of likes you have.Instead the two that matter the most are MQLs and SQLs. These stand for Marketing Qualified Leads and Sales Qualified Leads.I explain what they are and why they're so important in today's Monday Motivation. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 11th May 2026

3 unexpected things you could sell to your existing clients
I'm sure you already knew this: There's more profit to be made today selling extra stuff to your existing clients than there is in bringing in new clients.Sure, new clients are essential to really grow your MSP, but WOW are they expensive! If you added up every penny you spent on marketing, you're probably spending five figures to acquire a new client. That's a high cost of sale. The beauty of upselling existing clients is that the cost of sale is almost zero. You're leveraging an existing relationship where you can discover their needs, wants, fears, and goals... and match those up with items they'd love. I've got three unexpected things you could sell your existing clients. Let's explore them in today's Monday Motivation. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 27th April 2026

Ticking all the emotional check boxes
You know when an ordinary business owner or manager is thinking of switching MSPs, they have a series of tick boxes that sit in their heart. You must tick all of the boxes before they'll feel comfortable talking to you.Things like: They need to know you TICK They need to like you TICK They need to trust you TICK They need to see social proof TICK They need to feel comfortable TICK This tick box sits in their heart because it's all about their feelings and how they feel about you, versus your competitors. Let's explore that in today's Monday Motivation. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 20th April 2026

Your free month's access to my co-managed IT marketing
I'm sure you've heard by now that we've launched a second membership designed to help you win co-managed IT clients. Marketing that works well on business owners actually THREATENS IT directors. That's because the psychology is different, as is the language and marketing materials you must use. Hence our second membership. Right now, we're giving you free access to the new co-managed marketing for a month. Have you looked at it yet? Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 13th April 2026

How much time do you spend on "green tasks"?
I've started tracking my time again, but only within three categories. Red tasks are things I shouldn't be doing, such as admin. Yellow tasks are things that are OK to do, but in limited quantities. Green tasks are things that grow the business, so I should be doing them all the time. I'm currently running at about 70% green tasks, which is great! Although I'm pushing to increase it to 80%. What percentage of your time do you think is spent on green tasks? Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 6th April 2026

Today's crisis is tomorrow's vague memory
There are very few true crises that you will remember in ten years' time. But when you are in the middle of them, they seem like the biggest headache ever, right? Whether it's cash flow, an upset key client, or something else, it's very easy for us as business owners to obsess and worry and let our thoughts be dominated by the crisis. Let me see if I can help give you some perspective on this. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 30th March 2026

Driving up your profit margins
Tell me, what overall net profit margin is your MSP running at? This is a subject I'll be looking at in my podcast in a few months' time, so I've been doing a ton of research on it. In this week's Monday Motivation, I want to take you through what I've discovered so you can benchmark your MSP against what is considered to be "good performance". I also stumbled across some ways to increase your gross margins on MRR services and hardware, which I think you'll love.Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 23rd March 2026

The power of consistency
I've impressed myself today because this is the 100th Monday Motivation that we've put out for our members. That's nearly two years of doing this every Monday. Of course, that kind of consistency is really important in any kind of marketing. The more you show up, the more predictable your results. My team and I have developed robust systems over the years to make sure all of our content goes out every single week, regardless of vacations, illnesses, whatever. In today's Monday Motivation, I'm going to talk about why you need to have the same approach to your marketing and how our MSP Marketing Edge system makes that easy for you. Offer your technicians $10 for every Google review they get
There are lots of ways to get reviews for your MSP. And this week we're talking about an easy way you can motivate your technicians to ask for them on your behalf. One of our MSP Marketing Edge members gives his technicians $10 for every Google review they get and even more if they're actually named within the review. It's created a buzz and a bit of friendly competition amongst the technicians. Is this something that you would do? Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 9th March 2026

Should you hire a dispatcher???
Tell me, do you have someone in this role? It's someone on your help desk team, but who isn't a technician. Their job is to be the face of customer service for your business. They sit between the technicians and the clients, making sure that they feel heard and are delighted with your business. Done well, a dispatcher role can create a lot more capacity for your existing technicians and let them get on with their work without so many interruptions. Let's explore this role in full and why I believe every MSP should hire a dispatcher. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 2nd March 2026

Our new content calendar and community
A couple of weeks back, we made two major additions to the portal. Have you seen them yet? The first was a content calendar that allows you to see what content we suggest you post when. It's also a record of what content will go out when you're using our social media CSVs, and when the done for you team is scheduling your content for you. We also added a new community to the portal. Don't worry, the members-only Facebook group isn't going away for at least the next two years. In today's podcast, I'm going to dive a little more into these and the benefits to you... how you can use them to make your marketing easy. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 23rd February 2026

The myth of multitasking
I know, I know... you genuinely can do 15 things at once. You can have a YouTube on in the background getting marketing advice while you're closing tickets in your PSA, while you're upgrading a laptop, while you're eating a sandwich, while you're shooting aliens on your PS5. Just because you can do all these things at once doesn't mean that you should. Because I genuinely believe, after years of trying it myself, that multitasking is a myth. Let's explore this.Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 16th February 2026

Moving from being a tech to a leader
There comes a point in every MSP owner's career when you realise that the business will never grow past a certain size if you remain as the senior tech person. You have MUCH more value to offer as the leader of the business than you do being a tech. But I do know that this is potentially a very difficult decision for you to make. Let's explore why letting go of the tech is a watershed moment for every MSP.Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 9th February 2026

The BIG LinkedIn change
LinkedIn's quietly rolled out a major change called 360Brew. And while most people are ignoring it, it’s a signal of where LinkedIn is heading next. It’s a shift in how LinkedIn connects posts, profiles, comments, expertise, and engagement into one big picture of who you are and what you’re known for. I believe this is important for MSPs because it affects who sees your content, how you’re understood, and whether or not LinkedIn treats you like a trusted voice. In today's Monday Motivation, we'll dive into the major changes and how they affect what you're doing.Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 2nd February 2026

Get your ICP right
Your ICP is your Ideal Client Profile and it describes the kind of clients that you would adore to attract to your MSP. Trouble is when I ask most MSPs what their ICP is, they say "anyone with 5+ users and a wallet". That's completely missing the power of having a tight and focused ICP. Let's look at what you need instead, in today's Monday Motivation. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 26th January 2026.

Become the standout MSP in your area
One of the hardest marketing questions for any MSP to answer is: "Why the prospect would choose you and not one of your competitors?". The real question I'm asking is "what is your USP; your unique selling proposition?". The vast majority of MSPs I speak to have no idea about this. And that's why I'm running a short live programme just for MSP Marketing Edge members that starts next week. There's zero cost to you, but join me if you want to become the standout MSP in your area. All the details are in today's Monday Motivation.Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 19th January 2026

The most dangerous type of procrastination
Happy inbetween week. I'm hoping to get an important message to you today about what I believe is the most dangerous form of procrastination for MSPs. I see it all the time where the MSPs I work with are busy, but they're busy doing the wrong things. What are the wrong things? And what should you be doing instead? Everyone benefits when you take a break
All being well this should be one of your last working days for a couple of weeks. You are getting a break, a vacation, a holiday over Christmas aren't you? It's a great time to do it because everyone takes a break at this time of year, right? And the thing is when you personally take some time off and rest your body and mind... you benefit, your family benefits, your clients benefit, your staff benefit. Literally everyone benefits when you take a break. Let's explore that. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 22nd December 2025

Why you MUST put a price estimator in your website
For some reason one of the most controversial things in the channel is giving prices to prospects before you've spoken to them. Many MSPs say they can't do this before they've spoken to a prospect and yet prospects hate having to get in touch just to get a price. So they won't. For a long time best-selling author and marketing expert Marcus Sheridan (who wrote "Endless Customers") has recommended you put a price estimator into your website. I've now partnered with him on a new tool called MSP Price Guide. Here's why I believe you must put one of these on your website. And yes, there's a special deal on this for MSP Marketing Edge members. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 8th December 2025

Clearing the marketing clutter
One of the things about marketing that makes it overwhelming for many MSPs is the fact that there's a thousand things that you could do. There's always a new marketing strategy or idea. As someone who collects great ideas on your behalf, believe me, I know how non-stop and overwhelming it can be! But sometimes, achieving results with marketing is about clearing the clutter and focusing in on a very small group of activities that most move the needle. Let's explore what those are and how to do this. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 1st December 2025

Triple down on LinkedIn in 2026
One of the phenomenons I see within marketing is that when something's been there for a number of years, people just get bored with it and look for something new. And especially so with LinkedIn. Which has been a consistently great marketing channel for MSPs for years and years now. As I talk to members, I see people looking for the next new thing, when actually the old thing... LinkedIn... is still very valid! That's why today I'm challenging you to triple down on LinkedIn in 2026. And I'm going to tell you specifically how. Let's go! You absolutely, definitely, MUST read this book
There's a new book that's come out in the last couple of months which you really must read. It's by Alex Hormozi who you must have seen around the internet by now. And it's called "$100m Money Models." Sounds like an internet marketing kind of book but I promise you there is gold dust inside. It will give you ideas of how you can sell more to your existing clients in a way that delights them and never makes them feel like they've been sold to. Why you must do personal branding
We don't talk a lot about branding within the MSP Marketing Edge. Normally when you talk about branding, people think of your logo and your website design and stuff like that.Today I want to talk about a more important form of branding: your own personal branding. That's about influencing how people think about you based on what you put on LinkedIn, on your website, and what you talk about in real life. Your goal is to build a brand as THE local tech authority. Let's explore how to do that. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 20th October 2025

A hot new MSP sales book
I was at ScaleCon in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago, and my friend Brian Gillette handed me a copy of his new book. It's a subject you're going to love because it's about selling more managed services.I'll be honest, I haven't had a chance to read the book in full yet. But I've flicked through it. And I've got some highlights for you in today's Monday Motivation. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 13th October 2025

The power of a handwritten letter in our digital world
A reality of our day-to-day existence is that we are utterly and completely inundated with digital marketing, yet in a B2B sense, there's little being targeted at us in real life. And that creates a massive opportunity for you. What if somehow you were to send handwritten letters to your clients, your prospects, or your leads? Let me tell you exactly why, plus how to do it and a very smart idea for you to get other people to do it for you. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 6th October 2025

What’s your why?
That's a curious question to ask. What's your why? What exactly do I mean by that? I want to know why you're working so hard in your business. What's driving you day-to-day?It's probably not to own a yacht or a private jet. I meet very few MSPs like that. But maybe your why is about providing for your family or giving your kids a better start in life than they would have otherwise. It's really important to know what your why is and to make sure that everything you do in your business feeds your why; your purpose. Let's explore that today. Let's explore messaging in this week's Monday podcast. When you get it right, it accelerates all of your marketing... but when you get it wrong, it HARMS all of your marketing. Data enrichment is witchcraft
Perhaps one of the greatest marketing tools that's come out in the last few years is something I don't think you and I have spoken about before. It's data enrichment. Where all you need is someone's email address and so long as that's a business domain, all of the rest of their details can be automatically found by an automated tool. Are you using this in your marketing? If not, you really should start... and it's something we explore in today's Monday Motivation. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 25th August 2025

Can you succeed as a control freak?
One of the things that makes you and me great business owners is our ability to shape the business to operate exactly the way we want it to. BUT... that asset eventually becomes a liability. Because our desire to control every single detail will eventually limit the business's growth. There's a point where you have to trust well-trained people operating within well-defined systems... or your growth will stall. Is this a problem for you? Let's explore that. How to remove negative thoughts or persistent worries
We all have moments where we're not as positive as we'd like to be. Sometimes, for some of us, those moments then persist. The negative thoughts hang around in our minds, and we fail to see the wonder of everything around us. This is especially a risk for a busy MSP owner. I want to discuss this in today's podcast. Including a method I used to keep myself focused on all the things I'm positive about and grateful for. Paul's 5 min Monday Motivation for 28th July 2025
