July 5, 2026 Sunday Worship Service

Worship Service, July 5, 2026Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"Sermon: “To Know as We are Known”Scripture: Psalm 139:17-24Rev. Stephen ColemanIt is interesting to imagine Jesus praying Psalm 139, especially the climactic concluding verses inviting God to search his heart and lead him in the way everlasting. In an interesting way, that is what happened when he was tempted in the wilderness. His heart was searched and he was led into the better way, within the challenge of the testing. We can pray this prayer with Jesus, remembering that it is a dangerous prayer! We may get more than we asked for!The following licenses apply to our worship services throughout the year:CCLI Church Copyright License 1975561, Size CCCLI Streaming License CSPL170027, Size CCCLI SongSelect Premium  OneLicense Annual License w/Podcasting, Category D Reference for our July 5 service:Call to WorshipFrom the re:Worship blogInspired by Psalm 139 “My Lord, You Have Examined Me”Text: Martin Leckebusch and Kevin MayhewTune: RESIGNATION Music: from W. Worship Service, June 28, 2026Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"Sermon: “God, Where Did You Go?”Scripture: Psalm 22:19-31Rev. Dr. Pete MoonLast week we spoke of joy.  Today we pray through pain.  Here is the beauty of the Psalms.  They take us through all the emotions and invite us to bring ourselves to God as we are.  With God, we can be ruggedly honest in our thoughts and emotions.  When we are, we are praying like Jesus.  And, as we pray, we find God carries us through. Jesus in fact prayed this prayer from the cross.  In this Psalm, the painful prayer does find power to yet praise from the pain.  Such is the power of praying the prayers of Jesus. The following licenses apply to our worship services throughout the year:CCLI Church Copyright License 1975561, Size CCCLI Streaming License CSPL170027, Size CCCLI SongSelect Premium  OneLicense Annual License w/Podcasting, Category D References for our June 28 service:“God Is Our Refuge” Text: Psalm 46, adapted by Jay JohnsonMusic: Allen Pote© 1986, Hope Publishing Company

June 21, 2026 Worship Service "The Best is Yet to Come"

Worship Service, June 21, 2026Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"Sermon: "The Best is Yet to Come"Scripture: Psalm 100Rev. Bayo OgungbadeWe begin our new sermon series, “Summer with the Psalms,” and will discern together how, by living our lives more faithfully rooted in Christ, we can move from having seasonal joy to seasoned joy. We will explore how Psalm 100 invites us to cultivate a joy that is rooted not in our changing circumstances, but in the unchanging goodness and faithfulness of God. As we consider Jesus' first miracle at the wedding in Cana, we will discover that the same Lord who turned water into wine is still able to transform our moments of emptiness into moments of joyful praise. And even better than this - through Christ, even your biggest moment in life doesn’t compare to the joy that lies ahead. The following licenses apply to our worship services throughout the year:CCLI Church Copyright License 1975561, Size C CCLI Streaming License CSPL170027, Size CCCLI SongSelect Premium   OneLicense Annual License w/Podcasting, Category D References for our June 21 service:Call to WorshipAdapted from Psalm 100© 2011 Joan Stott – "The Timeless Psalms" RCL Psalm Year A, used with permission. Posted on the Geelong City Parish UCA website. “Great Day!” Text: Traditional Music: Spiritual, arranged for voice and piano by Howard HelveyFrom Sacred Songs of Howard Helvey© 2022, Beckenhorst Press, Inc.“Deep River”Spiritual, arranged for organ by David Hurd From Four Spiritual Preludes© 2002, Birnamwood Publications

Sunday Worship, June 7, 2026Sermon: “Profiles in Courage”  Esther 4:9-17Rev. Dr. Peter MoonOur message will focus on the courage of Esther and Mordecai. They both display different forms of that courage. Esther stood up and faced the thing she feared. Mordecai, in contrast to the surrounding crowds, refused to bow down to Haman. Both characters invite the question of courage and its relationship to faith. Pentecost Sunday May 24, 2026

Pentecost Sunday May 24, 2026Sermon Series: "Power and Pentecost"Sermon: "What’s Missing in This Picture?"Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:1-7Rev. Dr. Peter MoonMost are familiar with the Pentecost account. Tongues of fire come down as the Holy Spirit rests and burns upon individuals from differing lands. They are equipped to do what they cannot do on their own, and hence, the church is born. This Pentecost, we will review and celebrate the story and also dig deeper into the character of the Holy Spirit who comes to us. Using the initial verses of 2 Timothy, we will be reminded that the Spirit of power is bound by love and self-discipline. The Spirit uses families to pass this faith down generationally, as was the case with Timothy. The passages will encourage us to set aside our anxiety (timidity) and take on an increased boldness and fearlessness in our faith. The following licenses apply to our worship services throughout the year:CCLI Church Copyright License 1975561, Size CCCLI Streaming License CSPL170027, Size CCCLI SongSelect PremiumOneLicense Annual License w/Podcasting, Category DReferences for our May 24 services:Prayer of Common ConfessionFrom Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, June 8, 2025 https://www.mdpc.org/media/prayers-of-confessionPrayer for IlluminationWritten by John Henry Newman“Go forth into the world in peace”Text from the Book of Common Prayer, 1928Music by John Rutter© 1998, Oxford University Press

Ascension Sunday Worship Service, May 17, 2026

Ascension Sunday May 17, 2026Sermon Series: "Power and Pentecost"Sermon: "A New Reality"Scripture: Acts 1:1-11Rev. Stephen ColemanThe Gospel of Luke is all about the birth, life, teaching, preaching, healing, death, and resurrection of Christ. The book of Acts is all about the apostles- Peter, Paul, James, John, the birth of the church, and the spread of Christianity to the ends of the earth. The story of the ascension of Jesus is the bridge that links these two stories together. As Jesus was lifted up in the clouds, the disciples were staring toward heaven. Eventually, the disciples do stop looking into heaven and go to Jerusalem to wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them so that they may be witnesses of Christ to the world. The focus of the sermon will be on the story of the ascension. Jesus left one place so that he could be everywhere. A new reality now exists for the disciples and for us, a reality of waiting, prayer, and power. The function of the sermon will be to encourage and help us to live in this in-between time after Christ ascended and before he returns again. The following licenses apply to our worship services throughout the year:CCLI Church Copyright License 1975561, Size CCCLI Streaming License CSPL170027, Size CCCLI SongSelect Premium  OneLicense Annual License w/Podcasting, Category DReferences for our May 17 services:“A Song to the Lamb”(“Splendor and Honor”)Composition by Calvin Hampton© 1984, Church Publishing, Inc. “Go to the World!”Text: Sylvia G. Sermon Series: “Power and Pentecost” | Sermon: “Who is the Holy Spirit?”

The Rev. Dr. Peter Moon, Lead Pastor; John 14:15-21 | May 10, 2026 Sermon Series: “Power and Pentecost” Sermon: “Who is the Holy Spirit?” Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to his disciples in this scripture passage. It is a different image than that of Pentecost. Jesus describes the Spirit as the “advocate”. With the Spirit, we are not orphans. With the Spirit, we are to obey. We have an “advocate”. The images are not of coming flames but of abiding everyday power to do what we are called to do. Most of us are not as familiar with the Third Person of the Trinity. The sermon will remind us of the priority and presence of the Spirit to empower our everyday lives.
