Happiness can feel fleeting and elusive. We spend most of our time attempting to achieve happiness, only for it to be short-lived or not live up to the hype. This is where the concept of eudaimonia, an ancient philosophical term, comes into play. Eudaimonia means good spirit, and gets at what it takes to live well. In this episode, I break down the key differences between eudaimonia and what we typically think of when we think of happiness. There's so many things that get in the way of knowing and receiving that which we truly desire – whether it's people pleasing, believing having desires is bad, or just being afraid that we really can't have what we want, avoiding our desire altogether. But we need desire. Desire is not an add-on or a bonus; it's an integral part to living a fulfilling, meaningful life. I'd go so far to say desire is the compass pointing us in the direction of our spirit's purpose. It helps us know if we're on the right track. Venus is the planet of desire, and her transits bring us experiences that reinforce or clarify that which we desire. In other words, the person you’re presenting yourself as? Not really you. 🙅🏻‍♀️ Maybe the most insidious thing about people pleasing is that a lot of people who are actually people pleasing don't even know it. Pleasing often looks like “just being nice”. It might even look and feel like empathy. But what it actually is, is a negation of yourself with a capital S: your needs, your values, your desires. When we sacrifice ourselves for external approval, we will end up resentful, angry, frustrated and unclear in every regard in our lives. The good news? There are solutions – of the simple, accessible, and astrological sort. 😊
