Social Harmony - Time to Talk

Inspired by my own growth following a separation and subsequent look at my life. Coming from a male-centric point of view and hoping to encourage inner and outer harmony. Wellbeing, moving on, self-improvement and hopefully something that resonates with both men and women the world over.

Episode 82 - Neuroscience and Personal Growth

Today I'm joined by Marlowe Kaufman - a therapist who combines counselling with neuroscience to provide behaviour change strategies across the board from those suffering from extreme depression to those looking to add a few extra performance points. With Master's Degrees in both disciplines, Marlowe seeks to understand the psyche of her clients while approaching trauma, embedded behaviours and inbuilt limiting beliefs from both 'head and heart' in order to understand intrinsic feelings whilst applying techniques that work to alter neural pathways so that sustained change can occur.Talking openly and with radical candour, Marlowe shares her motivations to begin working in this field, the hard work it has taken to get her to her current position, tragedies and challenges that have impacted upon her as well as the successes enjoyed. In addition, we discuss current attitudes towards mental wellbeing, impacts of social media, pathology versus idiosyncrasies and much more.Available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts:Social Harmony - Time to Talk - YouTubehttps://open.spotify.com/show/4aAdbPrTjEEnwco5jII65U?si=19d64d1357534e9fhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/social-harmony-time-to-talk/id1792776061Check out Marlowe's work on the links below:Navigating tantrums: What to do before, during, and after - Calgary's Child MagazineFacebookInstagram

Episode 81 - Making Friends with the Grind

Today I'm joined by Ilke Lander - a mother, businesswoman, author, keynote speaker and inspirational coach to those who are looking to up their game that bit more...Ilke's story begins by telling of how she moved regularly as a child and had lives in around 30 homes by the age of 30. This was not the result of a military upbringing but from a father who had a great deal of foresight and personal belief to pursue his dreams to make a better life for his family. These moves took Ilke to several countries, where she became bilingual and adaptive to the culture in which she found herself while using ballet as something to anchor herself around whilst the physical discipline required maintained her mental focus in addition to the theory of mind which enabled her to see different perspectives from her own.As a young woman trying to define herself and carve a career path, Ilke was incredibly self-aware and would reflect deeply on what was (and what was not) serving her and what she needed to do to get to the point she wished to reach. In these "white stages" Ilke realised early on that she would need to grind hard to improve her skills, remaining intentional while she aimed at her goals. While there have been many successes, there are also a large number of setbacks and challenges - the type that nobody posts on their social media highlight reel. Ilke talks in detail about some of her most difficult obstacles and the lessons learnt by facing and overcoming some of the toughest periods in her life.Available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Ilke's work on the links below:Speaker | Coach | ConsultantAmazon.com: Ilke Lander: books, biography, latest update(3) Facebook

Episode 80 - The Mars Contract: Raising Good Men

Today I'm joined by Gaerecka Lyonns - creator and force behind The Mars Rising, a course aimed at parents (particularly mothers) that helps provide guidance for raising confident, secure and strong boys in a world that has left many confused, depressed and questioning of their own worth.Gaerecka is a mother of two boys and grew up with a military upbringing that instilled values in her that she holds today - that said, she has led (by her own admission) a life that has been very anarchic, living as a street kid, libertarian and something of a tomboy. While working in construction Gaerecka became something of a totem for the men she worked alongside, giving a female perspective when they would discuss their problems in stating or maintaining relationships with women. Her honesty and willingness to share without shaming gave her a unique insight into the male psyche and how nurturing and championing men to become their best selves led to positive outcomes for not just the men themselves but also those around them.In a society that appears to preach an "us versus them" narrative, we appear to be isolating ourselves further from the connection that we are innately wired for - something made worse by the ostracising of boys from a young age by well-meaning people who, while trying to mould are causing harm either by over-indulging their sons or lack of nurture for masculine traits.Gaerecka works with parents to help them understand the foundational needs of young boys, the positive aspects of masculinity, individual accountability and so much more that modern society seems determined to stifle much of which is positive about masculine qualities. Her belief that good men add value to the world and her conviction as both parent and coach shines through is her work and her daily life.Available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Gaerecka's work on the links below:https://themarsrising.myflodesk.com/The Mars ContractFacebookInstagram

Episode 79 - Confident Fat Guy

Today I'm joined by a man whose name I don't know - but he goes by his alter-ego of The Confident Fat Guy.The CFG is a podcaster and mental health advocate who looks to engage with people who are struggling by turning his own stories into ways of reaching out and relating on a fundamental level. With a history that includes alcohol abuse, violence, rejection, loneliness and suicidal ideation, CFG uses his platform to talk openly about both the ways in which his life has been impacted by external events and the ways in which he has responded - both positive and negative - that have brought him to his current point in life, one in which he is content with who and what he is while better equipped to deal with the new challenges that life throws at him.Talking candidly in a way that he previously - like so many men - was unable to do, CFG shares how he went from an angry and confused young man who would self-medicate with excessive alcohol consumption, through using violence to gain a sense of self-worth, to becoming a parent and putting down the bottle through to a man who has gained wisdom while fighting his demons - and now he wants to give back to the community.Available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out CFG's work on the links below:https://open.spotify.com/show/4dZ6nLynqj8lbQaEbRkBV0?si=bdb602e0954d460eInstagramConfident fat guy 🤙 (@confidentfatguy) | TikTok(1) Facebook

Episode 78 - From Chaos to Clarity

I'm joined today by Loren Audie - a poet, speaker, writer and spiritual teacher who looks to help those affected by severe mental illness, whether it be their own or that of a loved one.As a young child, Loren became acutely aware of the fear she had of when her mother became 'unwell' - this could present in a number of ways and would start at any moment without rhyme or reason, causing confusion and uncertainty for her. While trying to navigate the reasons and impacts of what was going on around her, the family were also struggling with the effects of caring for a loved one with bipolar disorder but seemingly unable to guide Loren mentally and emotionally through what were incredibly distressing times - leading to instances of suicidal ideation, self-harm, abusive relationships and a long journey through therapy and beyond.Having spent years working on her own wellbeing while raising her daughter, studying and carving a path forward for herself, Loren now uses creativity, faith and a voice of experience to engage with others who are struggling in order to provide calm, support and the hope that things can look brighter than they may appear.Available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Loren's work on the links below:(1) FacebookInstagramLoren | Speaker (@lorenaudrie) | TikTok

Episode 77 - The Paradox of the Pragmatist

Today I'm joined by Joe Steagall, host and creator of 'The Middleground Mic' podcast and political commentator aiming to cut to the truth of the headlines we see played out daily on our screens - usually once they've been given the 'once over' to suit set agendas.Joe interviews many in local and regional governance roles to discuss the issues faced daily by the electorate, looking to hear solutions rather than soundbites while also willing to hold his guest to account rather than nodding along to keep the peace.Joe looks to put forth a centrist perspective that places greater emphasis on critical thought, analysis and doing what is best for the population as a whole rather than the current trend of aiming for shock value and empty platitudes in order to either antagonise or placate. While much of the political content that we consume tends to follow an 'us and them' narrative, Joe looks to provide informed commentary and forthright honesty with a view to giving a 'facts over feelings' approach without the need for targeted attack.Check out Joe's work on the links below:Facebookhttps://open.spotify.com/show/7womcIAGvHvg3YifmvXLBF?si=5c7ffc7c470a4d1cUC0bQrUQFzm5SeLy_i6qWqUAHome | The Middle Ground Mic Podcast

Episode 76 - The Inherited Wound

On today's episode I'm joined by Shalina Lodhia - counsellor, criminologist, JP, musician and so much more.Shalina works with women in her community in a bid to help them heal from, extract themselves from or even just bring themselves to discuss the trauma of domestic harm, sexual abuse, abortion and all manner of events that social circumstances have caused them to face alone.Shalina also talks of her own intergenerational trauma, beginning with abandonment by her father and continuing onto maladaptive coping strategies, self-loathing and abusive relationships until finally working up the courage to begin counselling - but this was just the start of a long journey.Relatable and empathic, Shalina looks to her own life stories as a method of connecting with her clients in order to walk alongside them as they find their own answers (along with several questions...) in their journey towards acceptance, self-love and a means of moving forward in life with new skills and ways of showing up in the world.Check out Shalina's work on the links below:Shalina Lodhia: Transforming Pain into Purpose - Women's InsiderCOUNSELLORSHALINA (@counsellorshalina) | TikTokShalina Lodhia: Championing Mental Health and Human Rights - NRI Todayhttps://www.instagram.com/stories/counsellorshalina/

Episode 75 - Oh Take Me Back to the Start..

Today I'm joined by Tim Middelbos of The Emotional Reset, where he works with men who are struggling with a wide range of difficulties by understanding the root causes of pain and seeking to bring about a 'reset' of emotional awareness in order to positively navigate challenges and take a different route to the circular patterns of blame, shame, self-doubt and maladaptive behaviours often presented.Tim talks of how he came into this field of work using episodes from his own life and the struggles that he faced as part of his own journey of emotional awareness and subsequent mastery that men often appear ill-equipped to deal with - historically and in the present day in part due to societal expectations and outdated norms relating to masculinity. In a field traditionally dominated by methods of talk therapy and groups that often leave men confused, unsure and in many instances even more closed-off to the idea of vulnerability and emotional succour, there seems to be a seachange in how men like Tim are looking to connect and support men who are struggling.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Tim's work on the links below:Facebookhttps://youtu.be/M12egWBLDvs?si=620RMZ6cjV0xNIwq

Episode 73 - Stop Telling Me to Relax!!

Today I'm joined by Veronica Welch, a single mum of 15 years and host of the podcast 'Stop Telling Me to Relax - For Single Moms Who Don't Have Time to Chill'. While there may be other podcasts out there who discuss parenthood, Veronica's episodes are unique in that they cover all aspects of being a single parent, including the messy moments that don't get as much coverage. We begin with a look at our lives, in particular Veronica's upbringing in what she describes as "the Huxtable house" with a reference to her very normal, nuclear family existence which was akin to The Cosby Show, with two professional parents, a sister and a suburban life that seemed much like the typical American household.Veronica talks about her inherent shyness, describing herself as very much an introvert who preferred reading over the thought of hanging out at the mall or dating. After graduating from high school and then moving to college, Veronica then talks of the struggles of missing home and 'putting herself out there' as she looked to make friends in a new environment. This took a further turn when her father passed suddenly, throwing her life into turmoil and dealing with emotional pain that her and her friends were unfamiliar with.At just 24 years of age and fresh out of college Veronica began a relationship and quickly fell pregnant, moving in with a man who seemed more intent on continuing his hard-partying lifestyle than putting efforts into being a dependable partner and father. Following several issues between them, Veronica made the decision to call off the relationship and moved into a place of her own in preparation for the birth of her son. While circumstances had changed to a point that Veronica had neither imagined or really chosen, she was determined to build a life for herself and be a solid mother to her son - this meant a great deal of sacrifice, lonely nights and having to grow up fast in order to meet their needs without the support of a partner. It is these moments that Veronica talks about in her podcast and that have spurred to on to greater success in her professional life as well as intrinsically.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.https://open.spotify.com/show/4aAdbPrTjEEnwco5jII65U?si=b0fdeb92cdad49ddhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/social-harmony-time-to-talk/id1792776061Check out Veronica's work below:https://open.spotify.com/show/2JIRqNQREzQhzuFbkQPbrn?si=403804d7bb9e4c49Instagramstoptellingmetorelax (@stoptellingmerelax) | TikTok

    Episode 72 - This Woman's Work

Today I'm joined by Emilie Avon-Green - she's a psychotherapist, a mum and advocate for the promotion of 'Slow Motherhood'.Emilie works with mum's who are suffering from burnout - with parenthood, with lack of supports, with mental or physical health problems and just getting through life while dealing with internal and external expectations of 'what a mum should be'.In our current 'hustle culture', mums are feeling more pressured than ever to provide nurture and care for their child(ren), keep a clean home, go to work, be social, maintain good health/weight and the list goes on and on...Emilie helps mums and families to see that motherhood is to be cherished rather than suffered through, encouraging women to look after themselves through focusing on the priorities rather than taking on too much, accepting that some days we're not at 100%, maintaining your own identity and so much more.Using her own experiences of burnout, motherhood and life in general, Emilie discusses how she was affected by all of the expectations placed upon her, the physical, mental and emotional struggles that she went through and how she took vital steps to reclaim her life and step into motherhood with having freed herself from previous maladaptive patterns in order to be the best she can be - for herself, as well as her family.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Emilie's work on the links below:Authentic Living GuidanceTherapy for Moms in Ontario and Quebec / Support for Burnout, Overwhelm and OverstimulationÉmilie Avon-Green | Therapy for Moms with Burnout, Registered Psychotherapist, Ottawa, ON, K4A | Psychology Today

    Episode 71 - Sky's The Limit

Today I'm joined by Kam Knight - an author, event speaker and powerhouse behind the concept of Internal Resistance. While all of us are familiar with procrastination, unfinished projects and 'running out of steam', Kam's research highlights other factors at play within the brain that actively work against achieving to our full potential and holding us back in many areas of life.As we talk, I learn how Internal Resistance manifests in several different ways, such as hostility, perfectionism, avoidance and many more - however, while these scenarios are often passed off as a mental block of some description, there is a way to bypass this resistance and reach new levels of performance, confidence and self-awareness.Kam works with the individual (or group) to understand basic principles of what it is that we want, how to take those steps towards attainment and the final leap to achieve it - often itself more difficult than anticipated, another symptom of internal resistance.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts:Check out Kam's work on the links below:Internal Resistancehttps://mindlily.com/cirhttps://kamknight.com/

    Episode 69 - Betrayal

Today I'm joined by Lori Simons and Stephanie Rickman - two women who didn't know one another and had never met until an extraordinary situation brought them together.Lori had re-entered the dating pool following an earlier divorce and time raising her son. After setting up a profile on a dating app, she met a man who "checked all the boxes" and after being together for four years felt that they would see out their lives together until a fateful day when Lori found him with another woman and things changed dramatically.Stephanie had been dating and was in a relationship for five years. By her own admission she had "never loved a man as much as I loved him" and her kids adored him - things had progressed to a stage where Stephanie believed that she had found her person. However...After Lori caught her boyfriend out, she went on the group 'Are We Dating The Same Guy' and posted a photo - it was at this point that Stephanie and others made the same connection and reached out, each with their own stories that spoke of their own relationships with this man and things then started to fall into place. In an age of dating app culture and social media overreach, this story highlights the heartbreak, opportunity for manipulation and terrifying consequences of how someone with the motivation to deceive in this manner can easily make contact with someone and infiltrate their lives. While I firmly believe that the majority of people are well-intentioned, Lori and Stephanie's story serves as both a reminder that devious people exist but also that the power of friendship can help us rebuild.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. If you think you may be in a similar situation, click below:Download Our App - Are We Dating The Same Guy?Romance Scams — FBI

Episode 68 - Angels and Demons

Today I'm joined by Nichole Hensley Henson, the co-founder of the Fullness of Joy Ministry to talk about her life which began in darkness and began a long road to her current state of peace.Michelle's life began surrounded by domestic violence and from the age of 7 she was sexually and mentally abused by her biological father, in addition to being exposed to satanic and occult practices. This continued due in no small part to the mental stranglehold placed upon her by her father and she kept this inside up until almost in her teenage years when she began acting out in extreme ways and began counselling. While the initial counselling sessions brought the abuse into the open, this did nothing to improve her domestic life and contributed to her Nichole's mental health struggles which included OCD, clinical depression, PTSD and dissociative identity disorder. When years of subsequent therapists and medication did not change things, Nichole was at the point of just giving up when she learned about spiritual warfare which was the catalyst for her to finally heal. While having grown up around the church, Nichole finally concluded that she needed to give herself fully to God and describes the moment when the demons - that she formerly believed were just character traits - were cast out from her body and the peace that has washed over her since then, while also suffering none of the symptoms of her previous diagnosed conditions.Nichole now devotes herself to doing as God requires and through the Fullness of Joy Ministry spends her time consulting, teaching and writing in order to help others who have suffered torment of their own so that they can heal and nurture their own relationship with God.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Nichole's work on the links below:Fullness Of Joy Ministry – Nichole Henson: Ministry BlogDelivered From 60 Demons | Nicole Hensley-Henson Testimony of Jesus Christ(3) FacebookNichole Henson - YouTube

    Episode 67 - Building a Foundation

Today I'm joined by Michelle Valiukinas Tisdahl, founder and executive director of The Colette Louise Tisdahl Foundation to talk about her work and - perhaps more poignantly - the circumstances that led up to it.Michelle talks from the heart about her struggles to conceive and carry a pregnancy, the steps taken to become pregnant, the pain of losing her first child Sweet Pea to miscarriage and the awful day in which she was admitted to hospital when she was forced to give birth to her daughter Colette 16 weeks prematurely. Though Colette was born and taken to NICU, sadly she passed 9 days later. In the midst of her own grief and trying to make sense of the situation, Michelle couldn't help but see the pain of others who were struggling with their own grief and loss but also the financial strain placed upon them by the U.S. healthcare system. While acknowledging that she was in a financially privileged situation, Michelle sought to help families who had been affected by their own loss but were forced back to work in a state of physical and emotional distress due to the cost of their time in hospital. On September 7th of that year (Colette's original due date) Michelle launched her foundation with the aim of providing financial assistance to families dealing with high-risk or complicated pregnancies, NICU stays or loss, in addition to advocating for institutional reforms in order to provide better care in traumatic times and working alongside families to provide emotional support.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Michelle's work on the links below:Home - The Colette Louise Tisdahl FoundationThe Colette Louise Tisdahl Foundation - YouTubeFacebookCheck Out Michelle Valiukenas’s Story – CanvasRebel Magazine

I'm joined today by Dominique Favreau - an artist, growth advocate and presenter of the Coconut Soul Podcast to discuss a myriad of topics including vulnerability, self-love, personal growth and so much more...Dominique AKA Nikky, supports people in the move to become 'Soulpreneurs' in that she helps them to discard the unnecessary and sometimes toxic baggage that accumulates in life over time with a view to living a more fulfilled life and "being vulnerable enough to love yourself"As part of this, we look at things such as shame, mistrust, fear and perfectionism which manifest as getting in our own way and adding to the stressors already present in modern life. As both of us are fans of the 'no BS' approach, we draw on our own experiences and the mistakes within to demonstrate that the path through life is not a simple one and that it's expected that we will make mistakes - something that we seem to often forget when judging ourselves.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Nikky's work on the links below:Self love story of “Being vulnerable enough to love yourself” - Nikky & Patrick Coconut Soul PodcastDominique Favreau, M.A. | LinkedInhttps://youtu.be/R7uf61USr1c?si=Vya1F3porbXa1EzV

Episode 60 - The Thin Blue Line

In today's episode I speak with Adam Meyers - a serving Police Officer (now Captain) of 23 years and founder of 'Stop The Threat, Stop The Stigma'.In 2016, Adam was on a routine call which turned into much more - resulting in him using his service weapon and the loss of life. While to those on the outside this may be seen as just another day on the job but for Adam the aftermath of the event led him to a deep depression and self-numbing with alcohol, drugs and casual sex to mask the pain that was underneath - a pain that he was not attending to.Adam's subsequent termination, year of recovery and return to the force all served as important lessons and led to the formation of 'Stop The Threat, Stop The Stigma' - an organisation that encourages first responders to acknowledge the cumulative trauma from the situation faced daily and seek the appropriate supports - but also encouraging a culture that makes it normal for people to reach out without shame.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Adam's work on the links below:Stop The Threat - Stop The Stigma |"Stop the Threat - Stop the Stigma" with Adam Meyers(2) Facebook

Today I'm joined by Dr. Jennifer Schlueter, a trauma-informed certified hypnotherapist who incorporates emotional freedom techniques, neuro-linguistic programming and breathwork into her practice to shift mental blocks that are in the way of physical, spiritual and mental wellbeing.Jenny was formerly in a high-achieving corporate role and was doing very well professionally but her personal life was unravelling and she knew something was missing. Episode 57 - Man in the Mirror

In preparation for International Men's Day on 19th of November, I'm joined by David Maywald - author of 'The Relentless War on Masculinity - Does it Ever End?' and driving force behind 'Celebrating Masculinity'David discusses his book and the research behind it that backs up what many of us have been seeing in society for decades - that boys and men are falling behind women in education, employment, physical health outcomes, mental wellbeing and much more. Further to this, we look at gaps in society that are failing young men and boys such as a need for role modelling, no real purpose in life, a coddled environment that does not support the attainment of manhood and a move towards gynocentric philosophies and provision of services.David's passion for his work shines through and his efforts to seek change that supports empowerment of masculine and feminine alongside one another for the betterment of all is truly inspiring. Looking to provide positive solutions rather than blindly accepting tired narratives, David calls on men and society as a whole to advocate for initiatives that support men, women and the family unit as the current levels of detachment, depression, suicide and reduced outcomes are clearly not moving us in the right direction. To check out David's work, click the links below:The Relentless War on Masculinity: Does it Ever End? eBook : Maywald, David: Amazon.com.au: BooksFacebookCelebrating Masculinity (@CelebrateMales) / XCelebrating Masculinity | SubstackDavid Maywald | The Australian

    Episode 56 - Coming Up

Today I'm joined by Mandy who talks firstly about her battle against a 16-year addiction to cocaine and her subsequent recovery, alongside her efforts to rebalance herself whilst also battling a nervous breakdown and serious depression.Mandy had - in her own words - what we would call a 'normal' childhood that, while including some bumps in the road was relatively happy. At the age of 12 she first began smoking cannabis and this progressed in the manner of youthful curiosity towards harder drugs that eventually took over in a number of ways.Told with honesty and emotion, Mandy walks us through her life of partying, to the point where she decided to move away from drug use, the slip-up's and successes, learning about how the body functions with a view to healing herself and much more in between. Ultimately Mandy's story is one of hope, self-belief and the realisation that "there's a lot of beauty in this world if you just look".Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. To check out Mandy's work, click the links below:mandyalexismotivation.caInstagram(1) Facebook

Episode 54 - Fuck The Script!

Today I'm joined by Rob McCarthy, author of 'Fuck The Script - How to Own Your Shit and Rewrite Your Story' - a self-help book that's not your average read. As Rob himself states "...you come for the title, you stay for the book".So many of us are consumed by the belief that success means having a newer car, a bigger house, flashier clothes and other trappings that signal to others that we've 'made it' - but it's an illusion, a hamster wheel designed to keep you wanting more and a game that you cannot win as there's always some shiny new toy that you just have to have. Then comes the debt, the stress, the sleepless nights - all in the name of trying to keep up with the Jones's...Rob's book isn't the fluffy arm around the shoulder and comforting "there there's" - it's the kick in the arse that we often need to wake up and ditch the bullshit and the maladaptive habits that keep you poor and unfulfilled.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts:https://open.spotify.com/show/4aAdbPrTjEEnwco5jII65U?si=693a7408e31a46d2https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/social-harmony-time-to-talk/id1792776061Check out Rob's work on the below links:F*CK THE SCRIPT: How to Own Your $hit: A No-BS Self Help Book to Stop Caring What Others Think and Rebuild Your Life on Your Terms: McCarthy, R P: 9798263888534: Amazon.com: BooksR.P. Today I'm joined by Mordy Gottlieb, chef-turned social worker turned therapist who works predominantly with men who are struggling in a number of ways and can't seem to find a way forward.Mordy works on the premise that there is always hope - you just can't see it yet and through connections - along with often painful lessons - we can craft a life that is fulfilling, based upon self-worth and understanding what success means to you.Mordy talks openly with me about his own journey - the shame, the self-fulfilling prophecies and the maladaptive behaviours that caused him to seek a path of turning that pain into strength.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts:https://open.spotify.com/show/4aAdbPrTjEEnwco5jII65U?si=29320f2611e04376https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/social-harmony-time-to-talk/id1792776061Check out Mordy's work on the links below:Game Changer Grouphttps://youtu.be/l7ulLKNFE9c?si=5iuCSXkg6_ZDSma9https://youtu.be/KZnjq5npqZM?si=JcZuLl4Sujy6nV8A

    Episode 51 - Natural Mystic

Today I'm joined by Joyce Holden Wheeler, owner and driving force behind Total Holistic Living, the company Joyce set up following startling discoveries in the aftermath of her husband becoming chronically ill.In 2009, Joyce's husband began to feel ill and was becoming increasingly fatigued and unwell. Following a series of incorrect diagnoses and discussions with doctors who seemed unwilling to dig deeper, by chance they discovered the source of the problem and much more besides. While looking into possible treatment options, Joyce became increasingly aware of the number of 'hidden toxins' within our food, cleaning products and hygiene items that are a staple in homes worldwide. Taking the decision to live a totally holistic life and promote a complete picture of health, Joyce and her family changed the way they ate, shopped and took care of themselves - and her husband's improving health gave further vindication of their decision.Having begun her business, Joyce made it her mission to educate others on the damage they are unknowingly doing to their health, while seeking out producers and providers who align with these values and look to promote a lifestyle free of over-processed and increasingly toxic products.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts:https://open.spotify.com/show/4aAdbPrTjEEnwco5jII65U?si=3bcf710bee3241eehttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/social-harmony-time-to-talk/id1792776061To learn more about Joyce's work, click the links below:HOME | Total Holistic LivinBlog | Total Holistic LivinFacebook

Episode 50 - Bridging The Gap

At the moment it feels like many of us are doing life hard, with much of what happens around us seemingly beyond our control. The cost of living crisis, unemployment, political turmoil and so on can leave us feeling more disconnected and struggling to deal with everyday issues.Today I'm joined by Shelley Loader, manager at Community House, Whanganui and someone who regularly sees the best and worth in both human behaviour and the situations faced by many of the most vulnerable in our society.Shelley freely admits that her passion for her work is something that impacts upon her but it is this drive to support both her community and services operating on a national level that drives her and while she may often return home exhausted, it is her love of people that keeps her motivated.Shelley and I talk about how lack of dialogue, events like the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, 'othering' in reporting and social media forums among other things can splinter relationships between those around us and create further division when unity is our most positive tool for wellbeing and social harmony.Check out some of Shelley's work on the below links:How personality shapes our approach to social justice - Shelley Loader - NZ HeraldThe power of everyday role models in shaping community values – Shelley Loader - NZ HeraldOur different perspectives should strengthen, not divide – Shelley Loader - NZ HeraldWelcome to Community House – Supporting our communities together

Episode 49 - Stop, Look, Listen...

I'm joined today by Michelle Steiner, who talks about her life having been diagnosed in kindergarten with dyscalculia, visual perception issues and limited hand dexterity.Although being supported by family and involved professionals, Michelle was regularly told that she would be unable to excel academically due to her disabilities, despite an aptitude for reading and writing that marked her out from her peers. This was in conjunction with struggles to fit in socially and find her 'tribe' at a time of life when seeking to define our place in the world.Having found a group of people with who she could connect and a strong desire to succeed rather than just accept the limitations placed upon her by others, Michelle succeeded in getting into university, completing her Bachelor's Degree, becoming a photographer and also a published writer.Michelle's story is one of overcoming challenges and digging deep, while highlighting the importance of support, empathy and listening to the individual - the importance of taking someone on their qualities rather than just following accepted definitions shows us the power of belief in oneself, particularly when cheered on.Check out Michelle's work on the links below:Michelle's MIssionMeet Michelle Steiner: Conquering Disabilities, Inspiring Many! ⋆ The Writing KingFacebookTurning You Can’t into I Did: Overcoming Barriers with Disabilities - Aspergers StudioWhen I'm 'Caught in the Act' of Having a Learning DisabilityAvailable on Spotify and Apple Podcasts:https://open.spotify.com/show/4aAdbPrTjEEnwco5jII65U?si=d2d00e410fcc4e03https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/social-harmony-time-to-talk/id1792776061

Episode 47 - Seeing Life Differently...

Today I'm joined by Roisin, another friend from home whose story will relate to many. Erin was born and things appeared to be well - she was a friendly, compliant child who was no trouble. Following some routine 'age and stage' assessments, Roisin began to feel that something was amiss, then at 3 years of age Erin was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition.Like many, Roisin was unsure what this meant - primarily for Erin, but also for the rest of the family and so she set about educating herself while trying to understand her daughter's particular needs. There was also the realisation that this wasn't just a phase that would pass - it was a lifelong journey. There then followed struggles with funding for education and health provision, having to adapt her parenting styles following the birth of her second daughter and navigating daily challenges and successes.Roisin talks openly and honestly, sharing her experiences and thoughts in the hope of demystifying some of the stigma and untruths circulated around neurodivergence, while appreciating her own growth as both a parent and as a person.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. For more information, please click below:(IPSEA) Independent Provider of Special Education AdviceNational Autistic Society

Episode 46 - A Change is Gonna Come

Following on from the success of our conversation in Episode 38, I'm rejoined by my emotional support Canadian Chelsea Powell for another deep dive on personal growth - this time starting with a look at the relational grief that comes from stepping out of a relationship. As is often the case, the end of a relationship brings about intense feelings but as a society are we too quick to push forward without dealing with the underlying causes and emotions bubbling just beneath the surface? And if so, how will this impact us - in addition to how it will affect subsequent relationships?Speaking from a perspective of honesty and genuine curiosity, Chelsea and I talk about our own difficult situations, the feeling of not wanting to cause the inevitable hurt, how not knowing oneself inevitably attracts "the shit" and lessons leant from life, doing hard things and Tinder among other things...Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Please like, follow, comment and share along with checking out my socials:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61570245380684(1) InstagramSocialHarmonyTalk (@socialharmonytalk) | TikTokCheck out Chelsea's work on the links below:(1) Instagramhttps://open.spotify.com/show/0YhAbJpkjdQeaHQIQnco8I?si=d21ec1f5dd694eb4Breathe It In, Be Deliberate

    Episode 44 - Move Closer...

In today's episode I'm joined by Emily Wehrman, owner and CEO of Mastery in Love. Emily works with women to find or rediscover intimacy and create true, lasting love - starting with the self, in a holistic model that looks at the mind, body and central nervous system as a starting point.Emily looks to "meet you where your healing is at" and have the sometimes taboo conversations that peel back the layers of our inauthentic 'shell' that we use to face the world but which denies us the true intimacy and connection that we seek. In a polarised society that tends to equate intimacy predominantly with sex, Emily's work is so valuable as a conduit for getting in touch with one's inner drives as well as examining how we connect with those around us.Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.Check out Emily's work on the links below:Emily Wehrman Mastery In Love | Sensuality/Sexuality, Awakening & Relationships - St. Louis, MO(2) InstagramFacebook

Episode 34 - You Raise Me Up

There is a famous quote that states "It's easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" but in a society that is too quick to label and dismiss broken children, who is there to build them up from a life that has shown them dysfunction and cruelty? Today I speak with Ron, who has spent his career working with just such children following a traumatic childhood of his own that began with entry into foster care at two years of age. We talk about developing in chaos, recognising the angels that appear at opportune moments, taking our chances, the importance of therapy and looking within among other things.Ron's story is one of true inspiration in an everyday man, however there are also many lives impacted by him and his work. We mention Carissa in today's episode - a woman that Ron worked with from 13 years of age who had her own traumatic start to life but who has fought to achieve in her own right and now fights on behalf of others.
