Hey Ego, Can You Step Aside?

Beth and Nio talk about how our ego can be a saboteur of growth and centeredness. Learning how to handle our ego and use it to feel confident and empowered in the service of others can be positive but when we allow our ego to be self-serving the impacts are often negative and we miss opportunities to grow and show up as our best selves. ✨ Joy Notes Song: “Bag Lady” — Erykah Badu 🪨 Gratitude Rocks!: Accept Hosts: Nio Queiro & Beth Mercurio Follow us: https://www.instagram.com/joyandgratitudepod/ If you'd like to ask any questions or offer up any topics to discuss email us at [email protected] #JoyAndGratitude #Ego #PersonalGrowth #SelfAwareness #Mindfulness

How Are You Doing? (Why We Rarely Answer Honestly)

This simple question “How are you doing?” can provide us with a much-needed personal check in.  Are we honest with our answer?  Is our answer surface level or do we provide a deeper answer that builds connection?  Are there people and places that impact how we answer?  Why do we ask about “doing” instead of “being”?  We are conditioned to be performative instead of just being present in ourselves.  Beth and Nio dive into all of these reflections and remind us that fundamentally we have choice in how we answer and in how we tune into what is really going on within us.  Let’s use this question as a way to check in with ourselves personally each and every day.  Then, perhaps when we ask it of others or are asked by others we can answer with intention and vulnerability. 🎵 Joy Notes Song “Fast Car” — Fast Car by Tracy Chapman 🙏 Gratitude Rocks! Knowing our own personal rhythm, maintaining a tempo and understanding the “dance” steps are all critical to how we connect with others and show up as our best selves.  With practice we know the rhythm that allows us to thrive.  We may speed up or slow down with intention to stay in a rhythm that seamlessly moves us forward. What is your rhythm? Do you know?  Can you create a new rhythm when connecting with others? The Superpower of Lifelong Learning

What does it mean to be a life-long learner?  We each have a unique foundation of learning from different areas, whether it be education, experiences, generational wisdom, etc.  There is a superpower in being open and curious about expanding your foundation. Do you ask clarifying questions, do you try new things, do you learn from your children, do you learn from your elders?  What if at the end of the day, you shared with your family, friends, community, at least one new thing you learned that day?  We encourage each of us to lean into this superpower and use lifelong learning to enhance our interactions and improve our world. R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Nio and Beth go deep on what respect means and why it is so important, especially now.  Can we hold ourselves accountable and de-escalate when someone disrespects us?  It takes self-leadership to pause and make a choice about how we react.  To practice respect, we must start with ourselves.  If we lead from a place of centeredness and self-respect, we are more readily able to grant grace and assume positive intent.  Join us in this important conversation about how we each need to choose to be a human that models respectful behavior and disengages or de-escalates in the face of disrespect. R-E-S-P-E-C-T In this episode, we explore: What true respect looks like in everyday interactions The connection between self-respect and how we treat others How to de-escalate conflict instead of feeding it Why assuming positive intent can shift everything The role of self-leadership in challenging moments Joy Notes Songs:   Respect, by Aretha Franklin Gratitude Rocks!: Flow Hosts: Nio Queiro & Beth Mercurio Follow us: https://www.instagram.com/joyandgratitudepod/ If you'd like to ask any questions or offer up any topics to discuss email us at [email protected]

How can we recognize when we are falling into a mode of scarcity and make choices to shift back into living fully. We know one thing is for certain - change happens.  Small, silly things can throw you off.  Big, hard things hit when you least expect it.  How can we create a strong and sturdy foundation so that when the change comes, we can come back to center and reground?  Whatever happens, it is temporary.  Focus on what you can control, get clarity, be kind to yourself and build a strong foundation.  Like a weeble wobble, you can weeble, you can wobble but you will not fall down.     Joy Notes Songs:    I’m Still Standing by Elton John   Gratitude Rocks!: Inspire Hosts: Nio Queiro & Beth Mercurio Follow us: https://www.instagram.com/joyandgratitudepod/ If you'd like to ask any questions or offer up any topics to discuss email us at [email protected]

Win's Wisdom | With special guest Win Hodges

In this very special and memorable episode, Beth and Nio sit down with Beth’s father, Win Hodges, to hear about his learning journey and the wisdom he wants to share after 85 years of life.  We learn about Win’s view that cancer was a gift to him as it forced him to think about what he wanted in life and how to shift towards a more centered way of living:  one where he was able to be himself and find joy in each day.   We talk about the powerful message of “you be you” and finding ourselves and our purpose.  Win’s “mission to contribute to the light” is inspiring and reminds us all that in the yin and yang of life we can still choose our role and lean into joy and gratitude along the way.  Join us and hear Win’s emotional and beautiful lifelong learnings.  It may stick with you - it certainly will stick with us.   Note from Beth:  It is with peace, love and immense gratitude that I share that my dad passed away since this recording.  His wisdom feels all the more meaningful and precious to us now.  I will cherish this pod forever and hope you enjoy it.   Joy Notes Songs:   Simple Gifts by Yo-Yo Ma and Alison Krauss  Lord of the Dance by the Revels Chorus   Gratitude Rocks!: Open Hosts: Nio Queiro & Beth Mercurio Follow us: https://www.instagram.com/joyandgratitudepod/ If you'd like to ask any questions or offer up any topics to discuss email us at [email protected]

Beth and Nio were intrigued by the idea of a Midlife “Calling” instead of a Midlife Crisis.  Midlife can be a time of freedom and exploration. Rest is Power

In this episode Nio says, “Rest is Power”. Beth and Nio reflect on human design, the need to always be doing something and our current tendency to override our body’s need for rest and rejuvenation. Why can’t it be more commonplace and acceptable to not have plans and to just “be”.  What if we started to celebrate those that carve out time for rest, prioritize listening to what they need, and show up fully versus those who power through and perform.  Can we start to be more intentional about creating space for rest and allow for more natural joy to come through when we are present and energized?   Joy Notes Songs:   Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince Gratitude Rocks!: Joy Hosts: Nio Queiro & Beth Mercurio Follow us: https://www.instagram.com/joyandgratitudepod/ If you'd like to ask any questions or offer up any topics to discuss email us at [email protected]

Nio and Beth discuss the power in choosing to say YES but acknowledge that there is tremendous value in being discriminatory.  Can you ask questions to enable you to show up more fully and in alignment with your purpose and capacity?  We have an open dialogue about the role of “No” or “YES, AND . . .” in ensuring you are driving value and creating impact when you do say YES. We also talk about integrating how we feel and what our bodies tell us when we are asked to do something.  Tuning into ourselves, trusting ourselves and not overriding our own sensations plays a critical role in knowing when to pause, ask questions, and create additional options to get to a whole body YES.  Join us and practice listening to yourself and using discretion when you lean in and just say YES!   Joy Notes Songs:   Yes I Can by Sammy Davis Jr Note: covered by Ray Charles at concert Gratitude Rocks!: Explore Hosts: Nio Queiro & Beth Mercurio Follow us: https://www.instagram.com/joyandgratitudepod/ If you'd like to ask any questions or offer up any topics to discuss email us at [email protected]

How to Lead and Leave a Legacy of Kindness | w/ Special Guests: Herbert Lang and Amanda Banks

In this first of its kind episode, we share stories about the impacts of both receiving and giving kindness. Leadership starts with self, and we need to set an example and be disciplined about how we show up as humans. We also need to be self-aware, adaptive, and open in our communication and collaboration. We talk about being stuck as part of the process and how it can help us move forward when we embrace this as part of our personal growth. When we dive into growth we talk about discomfort and reflection as foundational pillars to lifelong learning. We explore legacy, helping others, and importantly we remind ourselves that it is never too late! Don’t miss the end when we invite Herb and Amanda to choose songs and play with the Gratitude Rocks! Program. This is a fun one!
