Ep119 | THE RETURN IS THE PRACTICE
After a summer away from the microphone, Theme Weavers is back, and this episode explores why returning can feel harder than stepping away.Inspired by a memorable moment of silence in Alanis Morissette’s “All I Really Want,” Heidi considers what happens when the noise stops and the mind immediately reaches for another distraction. That experience becomes a doorway into Yoga Sutra 1.13, which defines abhyāsa, or practice, as the effort toward steadiness. The Bhagavad Gita offers a similar instruction: whenever the restless mind wanders, gently bring it back. The wandering is expected. The return is the practice. In this episode, you’ll learn:Why an interruption doesn’t mean your practice has failedHow Yoga Sutra 1.13 reframes consistency as returningWhat the Bhagavad Gita teaches about the wandering mindHow silence can become a meaningful part of a yoga classHow to pair the theme with a simple physical through-lineWays to help students return without shame or judgmentWhy returning may mean rebuilding the relationship, not recreating its previous formCLASS THEME: The return is the practice.PHYSICAL THROUGH-LINE: Press down through the feet to create lift and steadiness.Explore this action in Mountain Pose, low lunge, Warrior II, and a standing balance. Students do not need to maintain the action perfectly. Each time they remember and reconnect with it, they experience the theme physically.TEACHING PHRASES:“When you remember it, return to it.”“This is not a correction. It is another opportunity to return.”“What kind of return is available to you now?”“You have not failed because you wandered.”“The return is the practice.”YOGIC TEXTS:Yoga Sutra 1.13: Tatra sthitau yatno ’bhyāsaḥ—practice is the effort toward steadiness.Bhagavad Gita 6.26: When the restless mind wanders, bring it back to the chosen point of attention.MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:“All I Really Want” by Alanis MorissetteTheme Weavers AcademyIf you want to learn how to transform yogic philosophy, personal stories, and meaningful ideas into thematic through-lines that live throughout an entire class, explore Theme Weavers Academy.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy To Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribeIf this episode reminded you that it is never too late to return, share it with a yoga teacher or friend who may need the same reminder.

Ep116 | What Are You Cultivating? The Foundation Of Future You
A comment during a Peloton hike sparked an unexpected reflection on aging, resilience, my 200-year-old house, and an obscure teaching from the Bhagavad Gita.In this episode, we explore the concept of Kshetra, the "field," and how yoga invites us to think about the body not as a project to fix, but as something to cultivate and care for over time.Together we'll explore:The surprising lesson hidden in a sloping 1800s farmhouseWhy resilience matters more than perfectionThe Bhagavad Gita's teaching on Kshetra (the field)How our daily choices become tomorrow's foundationA complete yoga class theme built around the question: "What are you cultivating?"Reflection Questions:What are you cultivating through your daily habits? What seeds are you planting for your future self? Are you treating your body as a project to fix or a field to tend? What might future you thank present you for?Because tomorrow's harvest begins with today's choices.Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academyEnergize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabookBite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmrEmail: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Ep115 | The Gold in the Cracks
What if healing isn't about returning to who you were before? This week, Heidi explores the Japanese art of Kintsugi, the practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, and connects it to the yogic principle of Santosha, contentment. Together, we'll explore how restorative yoga creates space to stop fighting reality, honor our experiences, and discover that the cracks in our story may be where the gold shines through.Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academyEnergize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabookBite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmrEmail: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Ep114 | What If You Trusted What You Already Know?
What happens when something that once made sense no longer feels aligned? In this episode of Theme Weavers, Heidi shares the unexpected story of a yoga class she almost quit teaching. After opening The Yoga Barn, one particular class began creating something she didn't expect: resentment. Not toward her students. Not toward teaching. But toward a schedule and format that no longer fit the season of life she was in.What followed became a lesson in yoga philosophy, self-study, truthfulness, and having the courage to listen when something feels off.In this episode, we'll explore:The difference between teaching from obligation and teaching from alignmentThe yogic practice of Svadhyaya (self-study)The role of Satya (truthfulness) in personal growthWhy fear often gets louder when we're on the verge of changeHow a simple schedule adjustment transformed an entire class experienceA complete class theme centered around the question: "What if you trusted what you already know?"Because sometimes the answers we're looking for aren't hidden. They're simply buried beneath expectations, fear, and the noise of what everyone else wants.Reflection Questions:Where in your life have you outgrown something? What truth have you been avoiding? What are you continuing to do simply because you've always done it?What might become possible if you trusted what you already know?Where might you need the courage to make a change?Self-study isn't just learning about yoga. It's learning about yourself. And sometimes the most important thing we discover is that we're allowed to evolve.Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academyEnergize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabookBite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmrEmail: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

EP113 | Be Here Now: The Lesson I Didn't Expect to Learn in New York
I went to New York expecting an incredible Broadway show.I didn't expect to leave with a yoga class theme. In this episode of Theme Weavers, I share the surprising lesson I took away from Just In Time, the Broadway musical about Bobby Darin starring Jeremy Jordan and Isa Briones. What began as an afternoon of incredible music, joy, and storytelling turned into a powerful reminder about living fully in the present moment, especially when life feels uncertain. As a parent, and particularly as a parent of a child with a complicated heart history, I know how easy it is to get pulled into the future. To worry. To imagine. To try to protect the people we love from every possible outcome. But sitting in that theater, I was reminded that life isn't happening in our worries.Life is happening now.In this episode, we'll explore:The unexpected lesson I learned from Bobby Darin's storyWhy "Be Here Now" became my personal mantra (and even a tattoo)Patanjali's teachings on memory (smriti) and imagination (vikalpa)How the Yoga Sutras help explain why staying present is so difficultA complete yoga class theme built around present-moment awarenessThe thematic through-line I used throughout classReflection questions to bring this teaching off the matBecause the future exists as imagination. The past exists as memory. But this moment is real.Reflection Questions:Where is your mind spending most of its time right now: memory, imagination, or presence? What are you missing because you're busy worrying?Where are you postponing joy until life feels more certain? What would change if you trusted this moment enough to fully inhabit it?The future is unknown. The past is already gone.Your life is happening now.Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academyEnergize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabookBite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmrEmail: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Ep112 | The Cost of Swallowing Your Truth
After returning from a weekend trip to New York City, I found myself carrying something unexpected home with me: resentment. Not because the trip was terrible. In fact, parts of it were wonderful. We saw incredible Broadway performances, shared meaningful experiences, and created memories I'll cherish. And yet, I came home with a clenched jaw, a stiff neck, and a lot of unresolved feelings. In this episode, I share a personal story about conflict avoidance, people-pleasing, and the challenge of speaking up when something doesn't feel right. Through the lens of two foundational teachings from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Ahimsa (non-harming) and Satya (truthfulness), we explore a question many of us wrestle with:What happens when kindness and honesty seem to be at odds?Together we'll unpack why peace and avoidance are not the same thing, how resentment can serve as information rather than failure, and why yoga invites us to practice both truth and compassion at the same time.I'll also walk you through how I transformed this real-life experience into a yoga class theme, including:• A dharma talk built around Ahimsa and Satya• Creating a thematic through-line phrase• Using poses and movement as metaphors for the teaching• Weaving the theme throughout class• Bringing the lesson full circle in a closing dharma talkWhether you're a yoga teacher looking for inspiration or someone navigating the delicate balance between honesty and compassion in your own life, I hope this conversation gives you something meaningful to reflect on.In this episode:• Ahimsa (non-harming) and Satya (truthfulness)• Why resentment can be valuable information• The difference between peacekeeping and avoidance• Speaking truth without cruelty• Compassion without self-abandonment• Building a yoga class around a personal life experienceReflection Question:Where in your life are you practicing kindness but avoiding truth? And what might it look like to practice both a little more skillfully than yesterday?Thank you for listening to Theme Weavers. Ep111 | What Do You Do When Life Gets You Fired Up?
What do you do when life hands you a situation that makes your blood boil? Whether it’s an infuriating insurance denial, a system that feels broken, or just the everyday friction of a world that feels increasingly activated—the "fire" is often inevitable. But in yoga, the goal isn't to become a fire extinguisher; it’s to learn how to be a skillful "strainer" for that heat.In today’s episode, Heidi shares a raw, personal story about navigating the complex healthcare system following her son’s first open-heart surgery. It’s a conversation that started in the studio lobby and turned into a powerful lesson on Yoga Sutra 2.46: Sthira Sukham Asanam. We often think "ease" means being soft or passive, but the true translation suggests something much more resilient: the ability to remain fluid and steady even when the intensity is turned all the way up.In this episode, we explore:The "Anesthesia Formulary" Frustration: How a real-life crisis became the catalyst for a deeper practice of regulation.Redefining Sukham: Why "ease" is actually about movement without friction (the "good axle" metaphor).Regulation vs. Escape: Why yoga isn't about bypassing difficult emotions, but learning to stay connected to yourself while they move through you.The "Windows Open" Moment: Using physical heat in the body to practice cooling the nervous system in real-time.The Revolved Half Moon Challenge: Why attacking a difficult pose with force usually leads to a fall, and how "matching effort with softening" is the key to stability both on and off the mat.Whether you are navigating a stressful season or just trying to keep your cool in a heated world, this episode offers practical tools for staying steady inside the intensity.Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academyEnergize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabookBite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmrEmail: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Ep110 | Compassion Over Comparison: Meeting Yourself Where You Are
Have you ever looked at an old photo of yourself and felt a sudden, sharp pang of judgment? Maybe it was a version of you that moved more easily, looked stronger, or balanced with more grace. It’s a common experience, but in today’s episode, Heidi explores why this "Montage Trap" is the ultimate thief of peace—and how our yoga practice can help us dismantle it.The inspiration for this episode came while Heidi was digging through 13 years of photos for her son’s Bar Mitzvah video. Seeing past versions of her yoga practice led to a sneaky inner dialogue of "I used to be..." and "Why can't I still...?" This realization sparked a powerful class focused on hip rotation and balance—a physical territory where aging and change are often exposed immediately. In this episode, we explore:The Montage Trap: Why viewing ourselves as static photos instead of dynamic processes creates unnecessary suffering.Anitya (Impermanence): How yoga teaches us to accept that change is the only constant, and why resisting it leads to "the argument with reality."Vairāgya (Non-attachment): Redefining non-attachment as the practice of "discolouring" memories so they don't make our present moment feel lacking.Physiological Compassion: Why meeting yourself with kindness isn't just a "nice" idea, but a biological requirement for balance and stability.Ahiṃsā as Non-Comparison: Viewing the act of comparing our current selves to past versions as a form of internal violence, and how to put down that weapon.Warrior 3 to Half Moon: A conversational look at a "peak movement" that reveals our habits of self-criticism and invites us to "meet ourselves here."Yoga is not a performance; it is a relationship. And like any healthy relationship, it requires compassion, not judgment—especially as we move through the seasons of our lives.Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academyEnergize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabookBite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmrEmail: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Ep109 | Roots & Branches: What the Redwoods Teach Us About Strength
In nature, we are often transfixed by the "branches"—the visible growth, the blossoms, and the outward expansion. But the secret to the resilience of the massive Redwood tree isn't found in its height; it’s found in its root system. In today's episode, Heidi takes us on a hayride through a tulip field to explore a powerful metaphor for Mother’s Day and beyond: the beauty of interdependence.Despite growing over 300 feet tall, Redwoods have surprisingly shallow roots. Their strength comes from the fact that their roots spread outward, intertwining with the trees around them. They stand because they hold each other up. This episode dives into how we can translate this biological wisdom into our yoga practice and our nervous systems through the lens of co-regulation and community. In this episode, we explore:The Redwood Metaphor: Why true strength isn't about independence, but about the interconnected root systems that allow us to withstand life’s storms. The Neuroscience of Co-Regulation: How our nervous systems find safety and stability when we are grounded in the presence of others.Yoga as Sangha: Reclaiming the concept of spiritual community and moving away from the "self-sufficient" myth of modern fitness. The "Forest Tree" Practice: A conversational look at a physical class sequence—from side-lying Child’s Pose to a communal Tree Pose circle—that embodies the feeling of being supported.Rooting to Rise: How physical stability in our "roots" (our feet and foundation) creates the physiological safety needed for the body to actually expand and open.Mother’s Day & Beyond: Navigating the complexity of our origins and honoring the people who helped shape our roots, whether through traditional nurturing or chosen community.Strength has never been about standing alone. Whether you are a teacher looking for inspiration or a practitioner looking for grounding, this episode is a reminder that you were never meant to hold yourself up by yourself.Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academyEnergize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabookBite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmrEmail: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Ep108 | The Grip: Why Effort Doesn't Guarantee the Outcome
In this deeply personal episode, Heidi explores a pivotal moment from her own life—her son Ari’s emergency open-heart surgery this past August—to dive into one of the most challenging teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.We often think of our effort as a transaction: if we work hard enough, we deserve a specific result. But what happens when the outcome is out of our hands? Heidi discusses the concept of Karma Yoga (the yoga of action without attachment) and how we can move from a "transactional" practice to a "transformational" one.In this episode, we cover:The Power of Powerlessness: Lessons learned while pacing the halls of Boston Children’s Hospital.Bhagavad Gita 2.47: Breaking down the teaching: "You have a right to your actions, but never to the fruits of your actions."The "Haywire" Nervous System: How linking our peace to outcomes creates constant anxiety.Thematic Throughlines: What they are in Chromatic Yoga and how to "drop breadcrumbs" for your students.Peak Pose Application: Using Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon) to physically embody the "wobble" of effort vs. result.Resources Mentioned:Support Team Ari the Brave: Join us or donate to the Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital [donate here: https://secure.childrenshospital.org/goto/heidikassner2026 or join the team here: http://secure.childrenshospital.org/goto/AriTheBrave2026].Subscribe: Support the show for under $5/month and unlock the Educator's Path Chromatic Yoga tracking [https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe].Connect with Heidi:Instagram: @HeidiKassnerYogaWebsite: www.heidikassneryoga.comThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

April brings a natural shift. The light changes, the air feels different, and almost without thinking, we start to clear things out of our homes, our schedules, and our energy. In this episode, we explore how that instinct connects to saucha, the first of the Niyamas from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, often translated as cleanliness or purity. But saucha goes far beyond surface-level cleaning. It’s about creating space (physically, mentally, and emotionally) so we can move through life with more clarity, intention, and ease.In this episode, I’ll walk you through how to take this seasonal experience your students are already having and turn it into a meaningful, embodied theme in your yoga classes. We’ll explore how to:Translate the concept of “spring cleaning” into a relatable dharma talkWeave the theme of clearing and releasing into movement, breath, and cueingUse simple, repeatable language (your thematic throughline) to reinforce the message throughout classHelp students carry the practice off the mat without overwhelming themThis is a reminder that your themes don’t need to be complicated. Some of the most powerful teachings are already happening in your students’ lives.Your role is to help them notice and experience it in a new way.Share it with a fellow yoga teacher Subscribe so you don’t miss future episodes Leave a 5-star review to help more teachers find the podcastAnd as always, thank you for being here and for the work you’re doing to create meaningful, intentional classes.Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribeIf This Episode Resonated:Share it with a fellow yoga teacher Subscribe so you don’t miss future episodes Leave a 5-star review to help more teachers find the podcastAnd as always, thank you for being here and for the work you’re doing to create meaningful, intentional classes.Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

How do we hold space for others when our own world feels like it’s spinning? Ep101 | Do It Scared: Trapeze, Death, and the Yoga of Resilience
Guest: Ciara Kilkenny (@yoga.with.ciara)In this episode, we celebrate our "hump day" of reaching 101 episodes by sitting down with the incredible Ciara Kilkenny. Ciara is a yoga teacher, media professional, trapeze enthusiast, and end-of-life doula who has made a habit of running toward the things that scare her most.We dive deep into the concept of "beginning again”, whether that’s getting back up after falling out of a tree pose or returning to your yoga practice after a long hiatus on your own terms.Key Highlights:The Name Story: A mortifying (but hilarious) realization about the importance of correcting people and owning your space. The Journey Back: Ciara shares her transition from a stressful relationship with fitness in college to finding healing and balance through yoga.Practicing What You Preach: The difficult decision to step back from teaching seven days a week to avoid burnout and honor the need for rest.Facing the Ultimate Fears: Why Ciara decided to fly through the air (trapeze) to conquer a fear of heights and train as a doula to face a fear of death. The "Laboratory" of the Mat: How balance poses teach us resilience, and why every tree in the forest is jealous of your ability to stand back up."Sometimes you need to walk away while you still love it... I’m walking away while I still love it because I don’t want to not love it." — Ciara KilkennyResources Mentioned:The Greatest Showman Table Read: The powerful video of Keala Settle singing "This Is Me" that we discussed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiVnG_Phy7c&list=RDCiVnG_Phy7c&start_radio=1 Yogic Philosophy: We touch on Abhinivesha (the primal fear of ending) and the balance of Abhyasa (effort) and Vairagya (surrender).Connect with Ciara:If you are in the Massachusetts area, you can catch Ciara’s classes at:Ritual Vibes (Foxboro)Lighthouse of Yoga (West Bridgewater)Epione (Norton)Follow her on Instagram: @yoga.with.ciara (Yes, that’s Ciara with a 'C'!)Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: [email protected] Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Why Viveka (discernment) is your ultimate "floatie" in a chaotic world.Truth #2: The Armor is Heavy, but the Ground is Steady. How the heat of Tapas acts like a glassblower’s furnace to create clarity from debris.Bonus Truth: The Monkey and the Banana. Ep96 | Love as the Ultimate Truth
Ep96 | Love as the Ultimate TruthSeason 4, Episode 13In this deeply personal and culturally resonant episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on why Theme Weavers took a week off and the "poverty of the soul" that we often encounter when we are tired, overwhelmed, or facing a world of division.Inspired by Bad Bunny’s historic 2026 Super Bowl Halftime show and a moving reflection by NC Senator Michael Garrett, we explore the intersection of Satya (Truth) and Ahimsa (Non-harming). We dive into how a single performance on a global stage can become a masterclass in Pratipaksha Bhavanam—meeting hate with the abundance of love.In this episode, we discuss:The "Unedited" Life: My personal journey with burnout, the "planner" personality, and choosing to show up even when it feels "yucky" or imperfect.Bad Bunny & Satya: How singing in one’s mother tongue on the world's biggest stage is a radical act of yoga. The Kleshas of Exclusion: Analyzing the "velvet rope" mentality and the Dvesha (aversion) that sees diversity as a threat.Pratipaksha Bhavanam: The practice of meeting "disgusting" rhetoric with "Ananda" (pure joy).Teaching the Theme: A full breakdown of how to weave this hemisphere-sized theme into a 60-minute yoga class without overwhelming your students.Note for Chromatic Yoga Teachers:This podcast is a resource for our community. Episode 92 | The Practice of Choosing Light
Honoring the Undying Light: Practice, Responsibility, and Choosing How We Show UpThis episode feels especially meaningful to share—it’s my birthday episode, and as I turned 43 this past week, I found myself reflecting deeply on light, energy, and the responsibility we carry in how we move through the world. This teaching grew out of a class I taught at the end of December, inspired by conversations with my dear friend and fellow yoga teacher Craig. That class held space for a wide range of emotions—grief, fear, anger, exhaustion, hope, and love—and it felt like the right teaching to carry forward into a new year.In this episode, we explore the idea that energy never dies, it only transforms, and what it means to remember that light is energy—undying, enduring, and present within each of us, even when the world feels dark.I also speak honestly about living as a Jewish woman during a time of rising antisemitism, the fear that can come with naming identity, and why yoga asks us not to meet hate with hate. Drawing on the wisdom of yoga philosophy, the Native American parable of the two wolves, and the poem “First They Came” by Pastor Martin Niemöller, this episode is a reflection on courage, compassion, and conscious choice. This is not a political episode—it’s a dharma talk about ahimsa, attention, and the responsibility we have to use our light in ways that heal rather than harm. The episode closes with a short guided candle-gazing meditation, inviting you to reconnect with your inner light and consider how it might ripple outward into the world. You’re invited to sit with one or two of these questions, journal on them, or simply let them unfold over time:Where in your life right now does darkness feel especially present? When things feel overwhelming, how do you tend to respond—do you contract, react, numb, or soften? What does your own inner light feel like when you are connected to it?Where might fear or anger be shaping how you see others? How does your yoga practice help you stay present with intensity rather than react from it?In what ways can you use your light—your words, actions, or attention—to stand up for others?Which wolf have you been feeding lately, and what would it look like to nourish the other? As this new year begins, what intention will help you protect and honor your light without extinguishing someone else’s?Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing—again and again—to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr To Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Heidi emphasizes the importance of these pillars in creating lasting change and encourages listeners to apply these principles in their daily lives, especially in the context of New Year's resolutions.Takeaways:New Year's Day is a time for reflection and intention. Many resolutions fail due to lack of commitment.Sankalpa is a deeper intention than typical resolutions.Kriya Yoga offers a roadmap for lasting change. The three pillars of Kriya Yoga are essential for growth.Discipline (tapas) fuels our efforts and commitment.Self-study (svarayaya) helps us understand our true selves.Surrender (Ishvara Pranidhana) allows us to trust the process.Applying Kriya Yoga principles can transform our resolutions.Lasting change comes from aligning intentions with actions. Keywords: New Year, Resolutions, Sankalpa, Kriya Yoga, Self-Discipline, Personal Growth, Mindfulness, Yoga Philosophy, Intentions, TransformationEpisode 18 of Theme Weavers as mentioned in this episode: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1QxDfBVDgPTO2grVEVpFHH?si=1ffcbe1cb98348fb Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr To Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe
