The Health Class She Deserves

What's up ladies, welcome to class! I'm your host, Autumn Paone, here to have real, honest conversations about everything you should have learned in school about the female body but didn’t. From hormones to living cyclically to the stuff no one talks about, I'm breaking it all down so you can understand your body and actually work with it, not against it.If you’ve ever been told your pain is “just part of being a woman,” that your period problems are “normal,” or that the only solution is yet another round of hormonal birth control when it's failed you time and time again, you’ve been lied to. Let's call out the gaslighting, expose the BS, and expand education on women's health. Educated women = empowered women! This podcast is for you if you find yourself asking questions such as:What are the menstrual cycle phases? What is ovulation? How do I cycle sync? What else did they fail to mention in sex-ed and he

What Does Cardiology Have to Do With Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a systemic disease requiring a multidisciplinary approach. In this episode, we’re joined by Dr. George Yiachos, a board-certified integrative cardiologist who's answering the question: What does cardiology have to do with endo?As it turns out, everything. (Please note: There are a few minutes in this episode where Dr. George pulls up slides. It is not necessary to watch; the audio is sufficiently explanatory! If you'd like, find the podcast on YouTube for full video.)Dr. George breaks down the cellular mechanics of endometriosis as a whole-body inflammatory disease and explains why removing the lesions is only half the battle. If we don’t address the "inflammatory fire" happening in the blood and the cells, we aren't truly healing. In this episode, we dive into:The Inflammatory Triggers: Dr. George shares his framework for what actually induces chronic inflammation and how these components act as a catalyst for endo symptoms.Endo as a Whole-Body Disease: Understanding the intersection between chronic inflammation, cardiovascular health, and long-term Health Span.Dampening the Fire: A deep dive into cutting-edge therapies used by Dr. George at Elysara to regulate inflammation from endometriosis:Ozonotherapy: The role of pelvic plexus injections and blood oxygenation in reducing systemic inflammation.Targeted Supplementation & IVs: Why high-dose antioxidants like green tea (EGCG) and quercetin are game-changers for cellular repair.Peptide Therapy: How we can guide the body to heal itself at a mitochondrial level.Reframing Endo: Why the medical system is failing patients by keeping endometriosis strictly in the gynecological "bucket" and ignoring its systemic impact. The Future of Care: Why Dr. George has hope for the future of endometriosis care.Connect with Dr. GeorgeWebsite: https://wprmedical.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wpr_medical/Listen to Decoding the Health Matrix: https://open.spotify.com/show/5TI4oNb4RVnyNqrv4EZ291Get Dr. George's book: https://www.amazon.com/Heart-Matter-Preventing-Reversing-Cardiovascular-ebook/dp/B0GHQRBCJ2About This Series: This is part two of our collaborative series with Elysara Medical & Wellness. Yoga for Every Body: Chronic Pain, Neurodivergence, and the Power of Aerial Yoga with Jo Stewart

I’ll be honest: for a long time, I thought aerial yoga was just a fun, circus-y way to do yoga. But after sitting down with Jo Stewart, Senior Yoga Teacher and author of Eight Limbs of Aerial Yoga, I realized I had it all wrong. For people living with chronic pain, neurodivergence, or PTSD, the hammock isn't just a prop, it’s a sanctuary. In this episode, Jo and I unpack why the Westernized, "fitness-first" approach to yoga is actually doing us a disservice and how we can reclaim movement as a tool for nervous system regulation, chronic pain (from endometriosis or something else), and our overall health. We dive deep into the specific benefits for female-bodied health, from managing mental health to autonomic balance to finding representation for conditions like endometriosis in the movement world. What We Discuss:The "Weight Loss" Myth: Why chasing a "yoga body" actually dishonors the practice’s history, disregards accessibility, and keeps us trapped in toxic diet culture.A Safety Net for the Nervous System: How the hammock acts as a co-regulator for those with PTSD or sensory processing needs.Chronic Pain & Endo: Jo shares the benefits of aerial yoga in particular for chronic pain and inflammation, and how it offers a bridge to movement when your body feels like it’s betraying you.Neurodivergence: The sensory benefits of deep pressure and why "traditional" yoga cues can be confusing for neurodivergent or structurally diverse bodies.Connect with Jo:Website: Garden of YogaBook: Eight Limbs of Aerial Yoga: Adapting Practice for Neurodiversity, Accessibility and Physical Support Podcast: The Flow Artists PodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/gardenofyoga/

Her Story: Surviving Endometriosis, Infertility, & The "Whiny Woman" Label with Amanda Martinez

Endometriosis, adenomyosis, infertility, and a messed up medical system—Amanda’s story is a heavy one, but it’s the reality for so many of us navigating the endo world. After eight surgeries (ablation and excision surgery) and the emotional rollercoaster of failed fertility treatments, Amanda finally opted for a hysterectomy. She bravely and candidly tells her story from cancer to cysts to endo, shedding so much light on what living with this disease actually looks like.In this episode, we get into the mindfuck of dealing with fertility issues and endometriosis. Despite specifically asking not to be there, Amanda was placed in the maternity ward post-hysterectomy, which apparently happens more often than you'd think. (Cruel, right?)Imagine trying to heal from losing your fertility while a chime plays over the loudspeaker every single time a baby is born. It’s a level of systemic negligence that is hard to wrap your head around. We’re talking about:Ablations & Bad Surgeries: Why burning endo tissue (ablation) is often a band-aid (kinda?) that causes more harm than good, and why you need to hold out for an excision specialist. The "Whiny Woman" Myth: Amanda opens up about being labeled a "difficult" or "whiny" patient by hospital staff and how that gaslighting and bias impacts recovery. The WTF Moment: Amanda shares an all-too-common experience of learning via the internet that her surgeon performed the wrong surgery for endo. We should be able to trust our surgeons over a Facebook group, yet that community was what led her to an actual endometriosis excision specialist.Finding Peace: How Amanda is finally sharing her story on her own terms and what her health looks like today. If you’ve ever been told that ablation was your only option, or if you’ve been told a hysterectomy is a "simple cure," this episode is for you. Amanda is living proof that we have to be our own loudest advocates.

Today we’re welcoming Chelsea Jambo, the founder and CEO of OURbody, a hormonal wellness brand that is fighting period pain, supporting menstrual wellness, and drawing a line in the sand for women’s healthcare. This conversation with Chelsea felt like a collective exhale. It was raw, it was cathartic, and it touched on the exact reasons why "The Health Class She Deserves" exists in the first place. (Period pain is not normal!)Chelsea’s journey started in corporate boardrooms where she was expected to "power through" debilitating period pain, and it reached a breaking point when she was denied a basic breast cancer screening at 24 because she was "too young, "despite her family history. If you’ve ever been told your pain is "normal," been dismissed by a doctor, or felt like you had to shrink your physical needs to succeed in a male-dominated career, this episode is your permission slip to demand more. Our conversation highlights:The "too young" trap: Chelsea shares her frustrating experience of being refused breast cancer screening and how she advocates for her health. The abnormality of pain: Why we have normalized suffering for so long and how to reframe the narrative that "pain is just part of being a woman."The corporate sacrifice: A look at the invisible toll women pay when leading in male-dominated spaces while navigating hormonal health. The pillars of OURbody: exploring how transparency, community, and radical self-kindness became the foundation of her brand and her teas.Chelsea’s story is a powerful reminder that we have to be the change we want to see in the world. Maddie isn’t just dealing with "painful periods," she’s navigating a complex alphabet soup of diagnoses including Endo, EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), PMDD, and PCOS.But the core of Maddie’s story is a wake-up call: We’re diving deep into her traumatic surgery experience, the absolute nightmare of not being taken seriously for breast and lymphatic endometriosis (yes, it can grow anywhere!), and the medical negligence that nearly cost her her life.Maddie is turning her pain into power by advocating for young girls so they never have to face the gaslighting she did. We talk about:The Overlap: How EDS and Endo often travel together and complicate everything. The Trauma: A raw look at her surgical experience and the "doctor misrepresentation" that led to a life-threatening situation. The "Rare" Reality: The struggle to get diagnosed when endo shows up in non-traditional places like the breasts and lymphatic system.Medical Menopause: The physical and mental toll of being forced into menopause and the lack of support for women in the thick of it.Advocacy: How Maddie is using Her Story to change the future for the next generation of girls and endo warriors.⚠️ A QUICK HEADS UP: During this episode, Maddie shares some of her actual surgery photos. The Secret to Shame-Free Sex Ed with the Learn MOBO Team

What's up ladies, welcome to class! This week we are learning about *actual* sex education with Jenna Scherma and Ashley Smith, founders of Learn MOBO, and I'm so excited.Jenna and Ashley saw major gaps in sex education, so they're doing something about it. Learn MOBO is a platform that transforms sex ed from awkward lectures into an engaging, interactive experience that meets educators, parents, and teens where they are.Their 100% neutral approach to sex ed shouldn't be so radical, but it *feels* that way because of how we've modernly stigmatized sex. It's all just information—information that allows us to make educated, rational, consensual decisions about our bodies and relationships with others. When we teach youth with neutrality instead of fear, stigma, shame, or even positivity, it allows them to form their own opinions based on fact, not feelings.Jenna and Ashley also put a huge emphasis on what sex education actually is. In other words, it's not just sex! Comprehensive, age-appropriate sex ed should start at a very young age, teaching kids about their anatomy, boundaries, and autonomy.Read more about Learn MOBO: https://www.learnmobo.com/ Follow Learn MOBO on Insta: https://www.instagram.com/learn_mobo/Follow Learn MOBO on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@learnmoboWatch the episode!Sign up for the newsletter (it's free!)InstagramTikTok20% OFF Natural CyclesBe a guest Hosted on Acast. What’s up ladies, welcome to class! In this episode of The Health Class She Deserves, we’re diving into the science behind skin health, gut health, and hormone health, and how they’re all deeply connected, especially when it comes to the gut–skin connection. In a world where everyone is trying to sell us the next skincare “miracle” (at the low low price of $100 an ounce, of course), it’s important to recognize when acne, blemishes, rashes, and chronic skin issues are actually an inside problem. Her Story: From PCOS to Tumor: 20 Years of Medical Gaslighting with Jenna Bostick

What's up ladies, welcome to class! This week we have another episode of Her Story, where I sit down with women like you to share your stories of pain, chronic illness, medical gaslighting, mental health, and more.In this intimate and honest interview, we're speaking with Jenna Bostick. Jenna was misdiagnosed multiple times with PCOS before finally (20 years later) getting diagnosed with a rare tumor. After decades of dealing with fluctuating weight, migraines, greying hair, high blood pressure, and countless other symptoms, she ended up in the hospital for two months. In our conversation, it became clear to me that one of the most painful parts of her story is the "what ifs": What if doctors had listened to her when she was 18? What if they had run more tests? What if they had investigated further? What if women's health was taken seriously? What if we taught women to take up space and advocate for themselves? She opens up candidly about medical gaslighting, fertility, weight struggles, emotional growth, and learning to take charge of her healthcare.Jenna wants all women to take this from her story: Trust your gut. Push back against your doctors when you feel something is wrong. You can be kind while also standing up for yourself, and in doing so you may save your life. You know your body best, trust that.If you want to read the Regional One article you can do so here.Interested in sharing your story? Wealthy, Worthy Women: Unpacking the Intersection of Health & Wealth with Nancy Griffin

What's up ladies, welcome to class! This week we're welcoming wealth advisor and creator of Women, Worth, & Wellness, Nancy Griffin. What do net worth and self worth have to do with each other? That's one of the key messages that Nancy unpacks for us today: You are worthy, and if you believe in your self worth, your net worth with grow.Because when we know our worth, we won't settle for less. We'll demand what we deserve in all areas of life, not just financially. We'll be fully empowered women. As women, we are often raised to not be difficult, to "just be grateful for the opportunity" instead of negotiating what we deserve. And while I'm all for gratitude, we can be grateful for what we have while standing firm in what we are worth. That's why Nancy's message today is SO important.Another key part of our discussion is how health and wealth are intimately connected. If we prioritize health up front, it can be less of a financial burden over time. Also, if we have an optimal wealth plan, we will have contingencies in place that can save us a load of stress. We talk about practical steps for working with a trusted financial advisor, building an overall wealth plan, planning finances with a partner, shamelessly prioritizing ourselves, and so much more. No matter where you're at in life, this episode will offer you something invaluable for your overall health AND wealth.Enjoy!Find Nancy below:Women, Worth, & WellnessInstagramFacebookor email her at [email protected] the episode!Sign up for the newsletter (it's free!)InstagramTikTok20% OFF Natural CyclesBe a guest Hosted on Acast. Have More Orgasms: Women's Sexual Wellness with Dr. Stephanie Zwonitzer

What's up ladies, welcome to class! This week we're talking all about sex, pleasure, and orgasms with Dr. Stephanie Zwonitzer.Female pleasure is considered *taboo*, but we're having this conversation to break through that stigma and bring you the sexual education you deserve. Because sex is a part of life, and pleasure is important! Sexual wellness is a part of your overall wellbeing, full stop. Many of us hold a lot of shame when it comes to intimacy. We're disconnected from parts of our body due to sexual trauma, religious trauma, family dynamics, or perhaps due simply to cultural influence. That ends today. Or, at least, begins to end today....healing will likely take much longer than 24 hours. But you get the point.Dr. Z teaches us how to maximize our pleasure (sexually and non-sexually), how to have easier conversations with intimate partners, and how to have a better time with ourselves. We also talk about different arousal types as well as the importance of non-sexual intimacy.Overall, this episode is full of valuable info no matter your situation. A Drug-Free Solution to Rewire Your Pain & Have Better Periods with Amy Gaston from OhmBody

What's up ladies, welcome to class! This week we're joined by Amy Gaston, VP of Strategic Growth at OhmBody.OhmBody is a wearable device that offers a drug-free solution to women suffering with heavy, painful, and emotionally turbulent cycles. The device uses neurostimulation, a fancy word for activating your nervous system in a way that targets pain and fosters relaxation.More specifically, OhmBody uses neurostimulation to target the trigeminal nerve and the vagus nerve. By doing so, we can promote healthier, easier menstrual cycles. This conversation is fantastic: Amy breaks down the science at OhmBody in a very digestible way. We discuss the origins of OhmBody, its whole body approach and the benefits it offers, the importance of having women in the room, how to support the nervous system, and education (or lack thereof) around the female body. We also open up into a broader conversation of women's health, particularly in tech spaces.Interested in trying OhmBody? What's up ladies, welcome to class! Today we're welcoming Veronica Kirin, founder of Asterisk Women’s Health, a Web3 company working to backfill 500 years of missing women’s non-reproductive health data. It's no secret that there are enormous gaps in women's health research, but there's also a significant lack of quality data itself. Why? Because it's being collected through the lens of a misogynistic system. Maybe if we just asked the women themselves....Lucky for us, Veronica's doing just that! Womb Healing & the Powers of Psychedelic Plant Medicine with Leslie Draffin

What's up ladies, welcome to class! Today we are joined by Somatic Practitioner, Psychedelic Microdosing Guide, & Womb Mystic Leslie Draffin. We talk about sexual shame, generational trauma, religious influence, motherhood, and so much more, and how we can overcome traumas via somatic work, breathwork, and psylocibin work.Leslie realized she was living entirely in her head, which I think a lot of us high-performing women can relate to. She teaches us that when we pair breath and body work with small amounts of magic mushrooms, we can deepen the connection between mind and body and embrace true healing on a much more profound level.BUT, Leslie takes it even a step further, and teaches us that cyclical microdosing is the key to optimizing our feminine power. As we all know, the cycle impacts every aspect of our lives. Leslie knew this, and so she thought, why would psylocibin use be any different? Cycling (psycling, if you will) your microdosing frequency based on the phase you're in is what makes Leslie's approach so different from other methods on the market.Read more about Leslie's Cyclical Microdosing Method and download her free guide here.Download the FREE Cyclical Microdosing Method 5-Day Mini-CourseLeslie also hosts a podcast, The Light Within. Sanity Over Ideology: True Holism & How It Can Set You Free with Nicole Lange

What's up ladies, welcome to class!Today I'm joined by Nicole Lange to explore the intersection of women's health, fertility, and Chinese medicine. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Whether or not you plan on having kids, your fertility is a key indicator of your health. Optimal health and optimal fertility are one in the same.Nicole talks about holism vs. faux holism, and I love the distinction here! The internet can be useful, but has gotten out of hand in many aspects. A good example is how we've redefined "holism" to mean something woo-woo, when in reality, it's using all of the modalities at your disposal to achieve true healing. More on that in class! We also discuss cultural influences on women's health, the emotional aspects of fertility, and the need for individualized care. Nicole provides insights on navigating health in a complex world and the importance of understanding one's body and needs. Her useful nursery/kitchen/house/neighborhood analogy allows for powerful reflection on where we put most of our energy...and where we maybe need to reallocate.Find Nicole at the following links:Nicole's website:https://www.lifehealinglife.comQuick Links / newsletter sign up:https://www.lifehealinglife.com/quick-linksCode for $10 off any of Nicole’s online program for podcast listeners: LHLPOD10References from class:https://florencewilliams.com/breasts-a-natural-and-unnatural-history/https://www.ynharari.com/book/21-lessons-book/https://www.lifehealinglife.com/lhl-blog-articles/start-seeing-faux-holismWatch the episode!Sign up for the newsletter (it's free!)InstagramTikTok20% OFF Natural CyclesBe a guest Hosted on Acast. What's up ladies, welcome to class! Today I'm joined by therapist, author, coach, and absolute pleasure Kristin Louise Duncombe!TRIGGER WARNING: The episode and following description detail topics that may be triggering or uncomfortable for some individuals, including childhood sexual assault. Use discretion. Links to crisis hotlines can be found below.Kristen and I begin our discussion with her latest memoir, Object, a powerful read about being habitually sexually assaulted by her father's colleague and how it affected her life for decades. We dive into the disturbing parallels between the current U.S. political climate and her experience with the U.S. government covering for a serial pedophile in the 80s.We then venture into toxic beauty culture, including raising the oh-so-important question of how men would see the world if we flipped the script. Even more interesting, we end up in the world of pornography: What does porn teach us about sex? What damaging gender roles are reinforced through it? How is the landscape of porn changing?Kristin's perspective is profound, having the unique experience of dating both before and after the dawn of internet porn and dating apps.Ultimately, our conversation advocates for a more empowered and informed approach to women's health, consent, and sexuality. Reproductive Rights, the Importance of Political Advocacy as a Doctor, & Merging Medicine and Motherhood with Dr. Kristen Cain

What's up ladies, welcome to class! Today I'm joined by Dr. Kristen Cain, a double board-certified OBGYN and fertility physician, reproductive rights advocate, and the number 1 bestselling author of Doctoring Your Life: The Secret to Merging Medicine and Motherhood While Loving Your Life.In this conversation we're unpacking fertility and in-vitro fertilization (IVF), the unavoidable politics surrounding it, and how women can have it all, but they shouldn't do it all. With over 30 years of experience practicing reproductive endocrinology, balancing family and a busy career, and over a decade of political advocacy for reproductive rights, Dr. Cain shares her perspective, wisdom, and experience. We also discuss sex education (and how it's actually gone downhill over the last few decades), the importance of fertility for your health and wellness no matter your family plans, and how health insurance has gotten way too powerful.Women are under attack. Women's health is under attack. Growing anti-woman and anti-reproductive rights attitudes are plaguing the U.S. and costing women their lives. Extremists are calling doctors like Kristen Cain—ones who practice IVF—murderers, despite their entire purpose being the opposite as they help people create life. It's easy to feel despair in times like these, like nothing you do will help protect reproductive rights, but the hopeful perspective, powerful statistics, and invaluable knowledge shared by Dr. Cain in this episode rekindled my fire. That's what makes Dr. Meryl Kahan's practice, SheMD, so special—by combining gynecology, aesthetics, and sexual wellness all in one place with a direct care model, women can both look and feel good (without the hassle of health insurance dictating the level of care). In this conversation, I sit down with Dr. Meryl Kahan to discuss her journey into gynecology, the pitfalls of modern health insurance, the unique healthcare model she has created at SheMD, and the importance of addressing women's health issues, particularly in menopause. We highlight the stigma surrounding menopause, the misinformation about hormone replacement therapy, and the challenges posed by the current health insurance system.Dr. Kahan educates us on the direct care model that prioritizes patient relationships and personalized care, emphasizing the need for women to feel empowered in their health journeys (where they often feel silenced). It's Not All in Your Head (Or Is It?): Your Brain On PMDD

HAPPY PRIDE ladies, welcome to class! (This was recorded in May and we don't talk about pride today but DON'T WORRY!! Next week will be pride central.)This week we're discussing Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), exploring its symptoms, personal experiences, and the scientific understanding of its impact on women's mental health.Think neurobiology and brain dynamics, but explained in a way that makes sense. If this stuff interests you, definitely get out your notebook for this one!Because we all know that women's health is dangerously under-researched, but we're absolutely going to dive into the little research that does exist.Tune in to learn about the emotional and psychological challenges faced by women with PMDD, the importance of tracking symptoms for diagnosis, and the preliminary research into the neurological aspects of the disorder. Our discussion highlights findings from various studies that reveal how PMDD affects emotional responses, brain activity, and personality traits. Early research suggests the cerebellum plays an interesting role. Along with a few other structures, we're beginning to highlight the neurobiological underpinnings of PMDD, reinforcing the reality of women's experiences and the need for further research in this area.Of course we don't leave you with all the info and no practical steps. We provide a few different avenues to explore, but it all starts with tracking your own symptoms with the DRSP.Whole-brain dynamics across the menstrual cycle: the role of hormonal fluctuations and age in healthy womenBrain reactivity to emotional stimuli in women with PMDD and related personality characteristicsDifferential grey matter structure in women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder: evidence from brain morphometry and data-driven classificationThe reddit postZRT LabsDUTCH Cycle Mapping (very detailed, but expensive and requires a provider)MiraWatch the episode!Sign up for the newsletter (it's free!)InstagramTikTok20% OFF Natural CyclesBe a guest Hosted on Acast.
