Muscle Health Matters
Welcome to today’s episode, where we’re diving into a topic that every woman—especially those over 40—needs to hear about: muscle health. For too long, strength training has been overlooked in women’s fitness, often replaced with endless cardio and the fear of getting “too bulky.” But the truth is, maintaining and building muscle isn’t just about looking fit—it’s about creating a stronger, healthier, and more resilient body that supports you through every stage of life. As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass, which can lead to a slower metabolism, decreased bone density, and an increased risk of injury. But the good news? Strength training can reverse these effects! Lifting weights and engaging in resistance exercises helps improve posture, balance, joint health, and even mental clarity. Plus, it boosts metabolism, making it easier to maintain a healthy weight and keep energy levels high. Muscle is truly the key to aging gracefully, staying active, and feeling empowered in your own body. In today’s episode, we’ll break down why muscle health is essential for women, how it impacts everything from daily movement to hormone balance, and how you can incorporate strength training into your routine—no matter your starting point. Whether you’re new to lifting or looking to optimize your workouts, this conversation is all about helping you build strength for life. Maintaining a Beginner's Mindset - How and Why it's important
In Episode 124 of the Inspiration2grow podcast I am introducing the concept of keeping a beginner's mindset in everything we do. Maintaining a beginner’s mindset is an essential key to staying open-minded and flexible in the face of change, while still being able to draw on the wisdom and experience gained over the years. It is the ability to be a student of the world, a continual learner, and to look at the world with fresh eyes and a new perspective, no matter how much knowledge and experience one has. The beginner's mindset is an attitude of openness and inquiry, a willingness to be receptive to new ideas, and an eagerness to explore new experiences. It also involves a certain degree of humility, because it involves taking a step back from one’s own expertise and allowing oneself to be open to the ideas and perspectives of others. This can be difficult for those who have become accustomed to being the expert in their field, but it is important for one’s personal growth and for the growth of their organization. In today's world, the pace of change is rapid and constant, and the need for adaptability and the ability to learn quickly is essential. The beginner's mindset allows one to be open to new ideas, to be willing to try new things, and to be willing to make mistakes. It encourages creative problem-solving and allows one to stay ahead of the curve by being aware of the latest trends and developments in their field. The beginner's mindset also helps to foster a culture of collaboration, since it encourages people to learn from each other and to share their knowledge and experience. By being open to different perspectives, people are able to come up with more creative solutions and to better understand each other. This can lead to greater innovation and improved productivity. Having a beginner's mindset can also help one to remain open to new opportunities and to have the courage to take risks. It allows one to be open to exploring different paths and to think outside the box. This can help to create a culture of innovation, as people are more willing to take risks and to explore new ideas. Finally, having a beginner's mindset also helps one to stay humble and to remain focused on the task at hand. By staying open to learning, one can keep their enthusiasm and motivation high, and remain focused on the goal. It also helps one to stay humble and to resist the temptation to become arrogant or to think they know it all. Maintaining a beginner's mindset is an essential part of staying open-minded and flexible in the face of change, while still being able to draw on the wisdom and experience gained over the years. It allows one to remain open to new ideas and opportunities, to think outside the box, and to stay humble and focused on the task at hand. It is an attitude of openness and exploration, and is essential for personal growth. How to Test Drive a New Habit for 30 Days
Episode 123 of the Inspiration2grow podcast introduces a new concept of 'test driving' a new habit for 30 days. I walk you through the simple steps of how you can get started with this idea, what you need, how it works and what to do at the end of the 30 days. A few key ideas of the 30-Day Habit Challenge: Test driving a new habit for 30 days can be a game changer in your life. It can help you make meaningful and lasting changes, as well as open the door to new experiences and opportunities. Starting a new habit can be intimidating and overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. Taking on the challenge of test driving a new habit for 30 days gives you the opportunity to test out something new and to see how it fits into your life. It's okay if it doesn't work out - you can always make changes at the end of the 30-day period. The first step is to decide on a habit you want to test drive for 30 days. It can be anything from exercising every day to eating more vegetables to meditating for 10 minutes each day. Once you've chosen your new habit, the key is to stick to it for the full 30 days. This means making it a priority and setting aside time each day to dedicate to it. It helps to remind yourself why you are doing this and to celebrate your successes. Whether you’ve managed to stick to your new habit on a particularly difficult day or made it to the end of the 30 days, it’s important to give yourself credit for your accomplishments. Test driving a new habit for 30 days requires commitment, but it can be an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to challenge yourself and to learn more about yourself. You may find that the habit you’ve been test driving has become a regular part of your life, or you may learn that it isn’t the right fit for you. Either way, the experience is invaluable and can help you create a life that’s more meaningful and fulfilling. 10 Simple Ways to Make Time For Your Health
In Episode 120 of the Inspiration2grow podcast, I am talking about 10 simple ways that you can start implementing to create more/extra time to dedicate to your health and wellness. When it comes to achieving your health goals, lack of time can be a major obstacle. With busy work and family schedules, it can often be difficult to find the time to make healthy choices and stick to a routine. Unfortunately, this lack of time can prevent many people from reaching their health goals. Time is a precious commodity and it is often one of the first things to go when people are pressed for time. When there's a conflict between work, family, leisure, and health, people often prioritize their other obligations over their health. Working late, running errands, or spending time with family means less time for exercise, proper nutrition, and other activities that can help improve one's overall health. In today's show my aim is provide some motivation and creative ideas on how you can gain an extra few hours (maybe even as many as 10 hours like I have been able to) so you can focus and work toward your health goals with a 'clean conscience' of not neglecting other obligations. Some notable quotes: “Good health is a journey, not a destination. Make sure you have time to travel it.” - C. Johnson “Health is our most valuable asset. Make sure you invest time in it.” - S. Anderson “Take time to be healthy and it will pay dividends in the future.” - A. Episode 115 - Achieving Goals - Become a Finisher, Not Just a Starter
In today's episode of the Inspiration2grow podcast, I am talking about how to become a finisher of things rather than a starter and quitter. This is a mini mindset lesson on what it takes to finish what you start. Insights by Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who developed his own school of thought known as analytical psychology, are used to explain how people need to look inside more for inspiration rather than look to their outer world. “Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” ~Carl Jung If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to leave a rating/review and subscribe for regular updates on how to transform your thoughts and habits to support your goals, tap into the superpower of mindset and become the best version of yourself. Episode 112 - How to Develop a Growth Mindset Around Fitness and Exercise
In today's episode of the Inspiration2grow podcast, I am talking about shifting your limiting beliefs surrounding your fitness abilities. You might have been told that you weren't too great at a sport or fitness-related skill when you were younger. You may remember those dreaded exercises in P.E. Classes back in your teen years at school. This could have led you to believe certain things about your abilities and dampened your confidence in yourself causing you to avoid them. Well, I am here to tell you: it's never too late to change your mindset, and it's never too late to try something new and become good at it. If you have/develop a growth mindset around fitness, you believe you can get fitter, stronger and even more athletic, no matter where you're starting from. In this episode I cover 6 approaches to shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset providing examples from a fitness/exercise perspective, but these approaches can be applied to any area of your life in which you wish to grow. Some notable quotes by Carol Dweck, author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success "When people already know they're deficient, they have nothing to lose by trying." "Effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment." "We like to think of our champions and idols as superheroes who were born different from us. We don't like to think of them as relatively ordinary people who made themselves extraordinary." Episode 110 - 7 Tips on Improving Your Own Self-Care (When You're the One Who Takes Care of Others)
In today's episode of the Inspiration2grow podcast, I am providing 7 tips of how you can improve your self-care when you're the one who takes care of others and fall short on looking after your own needs. This episode is dedicated to Karen, who specifically asked me to do an episode on ways to step back and look after yourself. It was clear that she truly needed help and I am always happy to offer suggestions whenever a listener requests it. If you don't make yourself and your wellbeing a priority, then who will? As women, we are hard-wired to care for others first and fail to go after our own dreams, goals and aspirations until after everyone else's have been met. This leaves us feeling burnt out and maybe even a tad resentful. I hope the 7 tips in today's show will inspire you to prioritize the time you need to implement habits of self-care into your every day life. "Put yourself at the top of your to-do list and the rest will fall into place." "An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly." If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to leave a rating/review and subscribe for regular updates on how to transform your thoughts " habits to support your goals, tap into the superpower of mindset and become the best version of yourself. Season 2, Episode 109 - How to Connect With Your Values
In today's podcast episode we are going to discuss how to connect with your own values. We are going to learn how to distinguish our goals from our values and gain direction, meaning and motivation. And at the end I have an excellent exercise consisting of three simple steps to get crystal clear on your values. Your values not only tell you where to focus your efforts and energies but also provide you with a new source of motivation. Why is important for us to look into our values? It's important to know the meaning of personal values because they can change how you live your life. Our personal values help us be our authentic selves and have a greater sense of purpose. They drive our personalities, goal setting, and how we take action in life. Acting On Your Values For example, if your value is “love,” what will your action be? If your value is “growth,” your actions might be to "try new things" or "take online courses." If your value is “fun,” your actions might be to "spend time with friends," or "fill your day with activities." “Living a life that aligns with one's values and passions leads to a more fulfilling and purposeful life. It creates a sense of meaning and belonging that cannot be achieved by any other means.” — Barbara Fredrickson.
