Ep 219: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - RIP Catherine O'Hara

In the ill-conceived legacy sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the afterlife’s favorite chaos agent is summoned back into the Deetz family’s orbit, turning a new generation’s problems into his usual blend of mischief and mild existential hazard. The film leans heavily on nostalgia, sometimes affectionately, sometimes like it misplaced its own personality, while juggling old faces and new ones without always giving either enough room to breathe. Michael Keaton still has the timing and energy that made the original work, but the story around him feels more assembled than inspired. This film marks the great Catherine O'Hara's final big-screen appearance, aside from a voice in The Wild Robot. HTSF Ep 82: Ahsoka Part Two: Toil and Trouble

In Part Two of Ahsoka, Toil and Trouble, Sabine Wren begins her reluctant Jedi training under Ahsoka Tano, despite being hindered by her stubbornness. A star map tied to the missing Ezra Bridger becomes the center of attention, drawing in enemies who seek to misuse it. Morgan Elsbeth pushes forward with her own plans, aided by ominously calm Force-wielders who don’t bother pretending they’re the good guys. It all builds toward a tense clash that makes it clear this hunt for answers is going to be anything but straightforward. Ep 218: Champagne & Bullets - RIP Wings Hauser

Champagne and Bullets (also known as GetEven and Road to Revenge) is a chaotic vanity project fever dream where plot takes a backseat to sudden genre shifts, and an unsettling amount of cocaine energy. The story loosely follows personal revenge, police corruption, and justice, but coherence is more of a suggestion than a rule, as if the script were assembled after a long night of questionable decisions involving cocaine, cocktails, cheap beer, and more cocaine. It fully commits to its own unpolished ambition, oscillating between action, melodrama, and accidental comedy, resulting in something that is memorable less for what it says than for how confidently it refuses to behave like a normal film. The late Wings Hauser is featured here in one of his most unhinged performances, delivering his lines like he never looked at the script and just showed up in the midst of a multi-week bender. Ep 216: Indecent Proposal - RIP Robert Redford

In Indecent Proposal, a financially strained couple played by Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore accept a million-dollar offer from a wealthy stranger, portrayed by the late Robert Redford, for him to spend one night with Demi. What follows is not the erotic thriller we hoped for and more of a prolonged moral hangover, as money, desire, and resentment unravel the couple’s sense of certainty in increasingly predictable ways. The film aims for a provocative meditation on love and the commodification of humanity, but often settles into glossy melodrama that confuses serious looks with depth. Still, it’s an efficient snapshot of early-’90s tabloid-era “what would you do?” cinema, where the real indecency is how confidently it assumes the answer is worth two hours of runtime. HTSF Ep 81: Ahsoka Part One: Master & Apprentice

In Part One of Ahsoka, Master and Apprentice, Ahsoka Tano tracks down a star map tied to the long-missing Grand Admiral Thrawn, setting off a race against the shadowy remnants of the Empire. Meanwhile, Sabine Wren gets pulled back into Ahsoka’s orbit, reopening a master-apprentice dynamic neither of them seems fully comfortable with. As old tensions resurface and new enemies emerge, the episode leans more on mood and setup than spectacle, laying the groundwork for a story that’s clearly gearing up to get complicated fast. Ep 215: Equalizer 2000 - RIP Richard Norton

Equalizer 2000 is a low-budget post-apocalyptic action outing that leans hard into its Mad Max-adjacent aspirations while never quite mustering the resources or narrative discipline to match them. Set in a desert wasteland where a militarized regime clashes with rebels over a powerful weapon created by Slade (the late genre film star Richard Norton), the film mostly strings together dusty chases, stock dystopian imagery, and stiff dialogue that feels engineered for functionality rather than persuasion. Its central gimmick, the titular MAN GUN, does most of the heavy lifting, often compensating for thin characterization and a plot that exists more as connective tissue between shootouts than a coherent arc. Ep 214: Mortal Kombat (1995) - RIP Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

Mortal Kombat was the first video game movie that many people from our generation saw, which felt at least mostly faithful to the source material. Dark sorcerers, monsters, a tournament of fighters, and combat that may or may not be mortal. We've been dancing around this one for a long time, and we were planning on waiting for the upcoming 4K release, but when the idea of a month dedicated to people we lost last year came up, we decided it was time to pull the trigger and chat about Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa in his most iconic role as Shang Tsung. Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade travel to a mystical island with the help of Lord Raiden (played amazingly by Christopher Lambert) to defend Earth Realm against a coming incursion from the dark forces of Outworld. Directed by garbage king Paul WS Anderson, this one marks the start of a career featuring spotty CGI and weak scripts, and is definitely one of his best films. This is another new release we will be tackling this month. Ep 213: Lee Cronin's The Mummy - MumMay!

For the final episode of MumMay, we're deviating from our usual path to go check out this brand-spankin' new film in theaters, Lee Cronin's The Mummy! This latest Mummy reboot, if you want to call it that, centers on a family whose long-lost daughter returns and quickly proves she didn’t come back right. The film leans hard into domestic horror and possession-style dread, effectively unearthing a more intimate kind of terror, but it often seems to confuse intensity with impact. While there are flashes of grim creativity and the occasional moment that almost resurrects genuine tension, the story itself tends to unravel, caught somewhere between psychological horror and spectacle. Ep 212: The Mummy (2017) - MumMay!

Tom Cruise plays a soldier who stumbles into an ancient tomb and accidentally “unwraps” a problem better left sealed, a vengeful princess with plans that are perhaps a bit too forward-thinking for the living. What follows is a globetrotting scramble involving secret societies, supernatural chaos, and Cruise doing his usual sprinting like cardio might fix a curse. The film aims for dark mythmaking; it was supposed to kick off Universal's now-defunct Dark Universe, but occasionally feels caught between tones, as if it can’t quite decide whether it's a horror or action film, so it tries to be both and ends up a little… entombed in its own ambition. HTSF Ep 79: Maul Shadow Lord - FULL SERIES RECAP

Everybody's favorite bifurcated Sith returns in a brand new Disney+ series, but now instead of hunting Jedi, he's... well, kind of hunting a Jedi. Maul Shadow Lord follows Maul as he tries to find a new place in the galaxy after losing his criminal empire while also trying to recruit Padawan-on-the-run Devon away from her Jedi Master. The series mixes street level crime and car chases with Imperial tensions and some of the best lightsaber battles we've seen to date. Oh, and there's a BIG surprise at the end! Ep 211: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - MumMay!

In this installment of The Mummy franchise, the O’Connells head to China, swap out Evie (now played by Maria Bello), and wake up a terracotta emperor (Jet Li) who can shapeshift and knows martial arts. Brendan Fraser is still doing his best “punch first, figure it out later” routine, but the formula is starting to feel a bit played out. At least they left the Nintendo 64-level CG scorpion man out this time around! Ep 210: The Mummy Returns - MumMay!

MumMay continues with more adventures of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, but this time their joined by... ahh man... a little baby shitkid. Rick and Evie are now married with a kid, which would be stressful enough without resurrecting both the Imhotep and an angry cartoon character, The Scorpion King (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson). The sequel doubles down on everything: more action, more lore, more sub-Saturday morning cartoon CG, and more instances of Rick solving problems by running directly at them. It’s louder, faster, and occasionally ridiculous. HTSF Ep 78: The Mandalorian Ch 24: The Return

Today, we wrap up The Mandalorian just in time for the movie with Chapter 24, “The Return.” Din Djarin escapes captivity with the quiet determination of someone who’s done explaining himself, while Bo-Katan Kryze leads a Mandalorian counterattack that turns Mandalore into a jetpack war zone. All this while, Moff Gideon makes one last overconfident stand in armor that screams, “I wish I were Sith.” The whole thing wraps up fairly decisively, leaving room for continuing adventures, of course, and we get some teasers of mysteries to come.   Get a lot more from Worse People Productions, including these Han Took Shots First episodes early and ad-free, at patreon.com/worsepeople Find our exclusive merch in our new webstore at shop.badmoviesworsepeople.com

Ep 208: Big Trouble in Little China - Mental Health

Every year we take a break from the "bad" movies for MENTAL HEALTH MONTH, a month in which we talk about movies we love! We're closing out this week with Jack's pick, 1986's legendary BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell and the great James Hong. Big Trouble in Little China follows trucker Jack Burton, a man deeply committed to the idea that he’s the hero, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, as he stumbles into a supernatural turf war in San Francisco’s Chinatown. What starts as helping a friend (the actual hero of the story, Wang Chi) quickly spirals into ancient sorcery, cursed villains, and a running tally of things Jack doesn’t understand but confidently narrates anyway. The movie plays it straight while everything onscreen refuses to behave that way, letting Jack’s bravado do most of the comedic work. Ep 206: True Romance w PJ of The PJ Bidwell Band - Mental Health Month

Every year, we take a break from the "bad" movies for MENTAL HEALTH MONTH, a month in which we talk about movies we love! This week, we have something very special, a listener requested pick from Pj Bidwell, who will be joining us on the episode! 1993's TRUE ROMANCE starring Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette and Gary Oldman. True Romance follows Clarence, a comic-book-store romantic with questionable impulse control, who falls for call girl Alabama and immediately decides their love story should include murder, cocaine, and a cross-country escape. What he lacks in foresight, he makes up for in absolute conviction, dragging Alabama into a whirlwind of mobsters, movie producers, and increasingly tense conversations that tend to end in gunfire. The film plays like a fairy tale that wandered into the wrong neighborhood and refused to leave. Check out PJ's music at @pjbidwellmusic and @thepjbidwellband! HTSF Ep 77: The Mandalorian Ch 23: The Spies

This episode we discuss the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian (thus far), Chapter 23, "The Spies." Din and Bo-Katan are uniting opposing factions of Mandalore just in time to attempt to retake the planet. While scouting, they discover survivors rolling around on land pirate ships, as well as a hidden Imperial Remnant base belonging to, you guessed it, Moff Gideon. Mandalorian vs. Mandotrooper combat ensues, casualties are suffered, and our heroes come one step closer to stopping the sinister Gideon and reclaiming their homeworld. Ep 205: Scott Pilgrim vs the World - Mental Health Month

Every year we take a break from the "bad" movies for MENTAL HEALTH MONTH, a month in which we talk about movies we love! This week we have Derrick's pick, 2010's SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD directed by Edgar Wright. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World follows Toronto slacker Scott, who falls hard for the enigmatic Ramona Flowers and then learns, too late, that dating her comes with a boss-battle gauntlet of seven increasingly unreasonable exes. What unfolds is part romance, part video game, where emotional baggage manifests as literal combat and self-improvement is less a journey than a series of combos you either land or don’t. Scott spends most of the film confusing sincerity with effort and learns in the end that it’s less about winning the girl and more about leveling up into someone who might actually deserve her. Ep 204: Threesome - Mental Health Month

“I made the yogurt.” -Jack Every year, we take a break from the "bad" movies for MENTAL HEALTH MONTH, a month in which we talk about movies we love! We're kicking it off this year with Whitney's pick, 1994's THREESOME starring Lara Flynn Boyle, Stephen Baldwin and Josh Charles.    Threesome is a college comedy that traps three very different students, an uptight intellectual, a charmingly chaotic woman, and a seemingly shallow and vapid mimbo who is surprisingly complicated, in a dorm room thanks to a bureaucratic mix-up. What follows isn’t so much a straight-line plot as a slow unraveling of assumptions about attraction, identity, and emotional honesty, punctuated by awkward encounters and the kind of conversations people only have when they can’t avoid each other. The film sidesteps easy answers, letting its characters fumble toward self-awareness while occasionally making you laugh at how confidently wrong they all are.   Get a lot more from our family of Worse People podcasts, including ad-free main feed episodes, at patreon.com/worsepeople   Find our exclusive merch in our new webstore at shop.badmoviesworsepeople.com

HTSF Ep 76: The Mandalorian Ch 22: Guns for Hire

This episode is a little late, apologies all around, Derrick lost track of the calendar and thought the episode was to be released next week. This week, we're diving into Jack's favorite episode of The Mandalorian, Guns for Hire! Featuring cameos from Jack Black and Lizzo [sic] as well as the great Christopher Lloyd. This one definitely feels like a filler episode in which Bo Katan and Din Djarin are tasked to help a bizzaro Alice in Wonderland-style planet solve a mystery regarding their rogue droids in order to gain permission to meet with the mercenary Mandalorians currently camped out on the planet, led by Axe Woves. There's some good here, a lot of bad and a sweet ass Mandalorian battle at the end. Ep 203: Vamp

You've been Dorothy-ed, bitch! -Derrick Vamp follows two college guys who, in a moment of questionable judgment, wander into a gritty downtown club to hire a stripper for a frat party—only to discover the place is run by vampires, led by the mesmerizing and dangerous Katrina. What starts as a sleazy errand quickly turns into a neon-lit survival scramble through back alleys and blood-soaked hallways. The film leans into its stylized, almost comic-book vibe, mixing horror with just enough deadpan absurdity to keep things from collapsing. By the end, it’s less about partying and more about surviving until sunrise with most of your blood still accounted for. Ep 202: Masters of the Universe (1987) w Dan from The Geeks With Beards Podcast

“Put a hat on the fuckin’ balloon!” -Jack This 80s schlock classic relocates an interdimensional battle for a magical sword to suburban Earth, where He-Man (Dolph Lundgren) and his allies crash into a small-town teen drama while battling the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella). While Skeletor seizes Castle Grayskull offscreen and waits for a cosmic alignment, the heroes spend most of the film chasing a tone-shifting gadget and explaining their mythology to confused locals. It’s an earnest fantasy epic squeezed into a modest production, buoyed by Frank Langella’s committed villainy. HTSF Ep 75: The Mandalorian Ch 21: The Pirate

In The Mandalorian Chapter 21, space-mayor Greef Karga sends a desperate message when pirate boss Gorian Shard and his crew start blasting up the town on Nevarro. Ranger pilot Carson Teva can’t get official help, so he runs to the Mandalorians for help, guilt tripping Mando into assisting. Led by Din Djarin and enthusiastically backed by Paz Vizsla, the Mandalorians swoop in, wreck the pirates, and turn the whole thing into a very explosive community service project. In return, Nevarro gives them land to live on and begin rebuilding their community. Ep 200: C.H.U.D.

The cleanest he’s ever looked is as one of the wet and/or sticky bandits. -Derrick We have been talking about C.H.U.D. since the show started, and as we were planning our 200th episode, one of our Patrons, Grayson, suggested this one so we decided it was finally time! We learn New York’s missing-person problem is actually due to radioactive cannibal mutants living in the sewer system, which was not part of the city planning. As a photographer (John Heard), a soup-kitchen operator (Daniel Stern), and a skeptical cop (Christopher Curry) connect the dots, the film shifts between urban paranoia and creature-feature mayhem. It treats toxic waste, homelessness, and government negligence with surprising earnestness while still delivering glowing-eyed monsters who clearly do not want guests. Ep 199: Friday the 13th Part III w Zip

Honey, the goldfish is eating the goat again! -Jack   This installment of the Friday the 13th franchise follows another group of vacationers who pick the wrong remote lake house. As tensions, pranks, and questionable life choices pile up, Jason Voorhees arrives to enforce a very strict no-party policy, turning the weekend into a methodical exercise in slasher logistics. Jason methodically restores order with the calm efficiency of someone very committed to a routine. The film is most notable for handing him the hockey mask and leaning into 3D spectacle, treating plot as a loose suggestion between set pieces. YouTube TV Free w Ads - Prime $3.99/$4.99

    EP 198: Angel (1984)

Angel follows Molly, a 15-year-old straight-A high school student by day and a streetwise sex worker by night. When a serial killer starts targeting people in her orbit, she teams up with a gruff, glass-eyed detective and her crazy circle of Hollywood Boulevard characters, including an old cowboy, a crossdresser, and a yoyo-ing Charlie Chaplin, to fight back. The film mixes sleazy thriller elements with an oddly sincere found-family vibe, but is less exploitative than its premise suggests, playing the contrast between routine normalcy and bursts of sudden violence. I didn’t know what “man in the boat Protocol” was, and I deleted it. I apologize. -Derrick In The Mandalorian Chapter 20 : The Foundling, Mandalorian training on the beach is interrupted by yet another giant creature, and Paz Vizsla's kid gets carried off by a flying predator we deemed the Terrordactyl, leading to a jetpack pursuit that doubles as a reminder that Mandalorians plan for everything except fuel efficiency. Grogu quietly gets adopted into the culture while having a very expository flashback to Order 66. Ep 197: Kuffs

Oh, it’s like a Fight Club situation? It was just Christian Slater shitting his own pants? -Derrick   Kuffs follows a classic 90s piece of shit slacker twenty-something who inherits his late brother’s policing gig and immediately treats law enforcement like a part-time hobby, which he’s wildly unqualified for. Armed with a badge he didn’t earn and confidence he definitely didn’t earn, he stumbles through cases, annoys actual professionals, and somehow inches closer to solving his brother’s murder. The film can't decide if it's a comedy or a crime thriller and runs on fast-talking charm and a steady stream of bad decisions, turning a murder investigation into a surprisingly breezy coming-of-age story with sirens in the background. HTSF Ep 73: The Mandalorian Ch 19: The Convert

I think if you have two gravities and you push them together, they create an opposite gravity… and that’s how you get waterbeds. - Jack In The Mandalorian Chapter 19, The Convert, the show briefly forgets it’s about a behelmeted space dad and instead follows our old pal from season one Dr. Pershing on Coruscant, where New Republic bureaucracy proves more terrifying than any Imperial remnant. Pershing tries to do good with his science, but gets peer-pressured into breaking rules by a suspiciously friendly ex-Imperial, and is rewarded with a mind-flayer session that’s definitely not part of the wellness program. The episode paints the New Republic as well-meaning but hilariously bogged down in office politics, recycled equipment, and moral gray zones. Meanwhile, Din and Bo-Katan meet up with the Covert and get forgiven for their dirty apostate sins. Unfortunately, this film is not available streaming anywhere legally, but if you're so inclined to set sail with your friend "Troy Rent", it is out there. We typically won't do a movie that isn't available in any form, even physical, but this is one of the movies that Jack pitched the month's theme for, so we're getting into it anyway. Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland play rodeo roping partners-on-the-outs that get wrapped up in a human trafficking and slavery scandal run by Dylan McDermott while trying to save their old friend Nacho. They have to travel from New Mexico to New York City, and the fish-out-of-water hijinks ensue. We also get graced for the second time in two episodes with the gorgeous visage of one of our favorites, Ernie Hudson! Not to mention, quite possibly the greatest dummy death in show history. Along the way we learn some more about this history of Mandalore and the Kryze Clan as well as getting a glimpse of the Mythosaur, long thought extinct. Exciting stuff and we're talking all about it with our co-host from Bad Movies Worse People, Whitney! Ep 191: The Cherokee Kid - Rodeo Month

We all know that Jack loves Sinbad, and since Rodeo Month was his idea, we should've known it was just so he could make us talk about another of Sinbad's films. This time we're talking about the HBO Original picture, The Cherokee Kid, starring, of course, Sinbad as well as Ernie Hudson, Burt Reynolds, James Coburn and Gregory Hines with a special early appearance from Walton Goggins! Sinbad plays an orphaned settler who sets out to seek revenge against the evil land developer and goon responsible for the death of his parents. Along the way he has to learn to be a mountain man and a gunfighter from two legends of the Old West, eventually confronting his parents' killer and his gang. Will Derrick like this installment of Jack Loves Sinbad? Or will it be another Houseguest incident? Ep 190: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life

"The war on drugs will never be won as long as people can pee and poo in a bucket." - Jack Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, aside from being a mouthful, tries to raise the stakes on the first entry by sending Lara on a globe-spanning quest to stop a mythic device that could end the world, but mostly settles for repeating the motions of a video game without the player’s sense of control. Angelina Jolie’s effortless confidence does a lot of the heavy lifting as the film hops between exotic locations, elaborate traps, and villains who feel more like obstacles than characters. It’s slick and energetic, yet oddly weightless, an adventure that looks impressive in motion while never quite convincing you there’s anything truly at risk beyond the next action set piece. HTSF Ep 71: The Mandalorian Ch 17: The Apostate

The Mandalorian Chapter 17, The Apostate, kicks off season three by reminding us of Din Djarin’s life philosophy—strict rules, no helmet removal, and constant quests. While Din tries to redeem himself in the eyes of his ultra-traditional Mandalorian sect, the episode spends much of its time reestablishing lore, reintroducing allies, and lining up objectives. It’s polished and comfortably familiar, but also cautious, leaning more on franchise maintenance than momentum, as if the show is easing itself back into action rather than charging ahead. Ep 189: The Haunting (1999) - JAN-uary

The Haunting follows a group of emotionally fragile strangers, portrayed by a surprisingly deep cast, who sign up for a sleep study in a massive, aggressively haunted mansion... which sounds like a completely normal research opportunity. As the experiment quietly collapses, Hill House reveals itself as a gothic nightmare full of moving walls, tragic backstory, and architectural choices that clearly resent human happiness. The film leans hard into atmosphere and spectacle, letting its ghosts, secrets, and crumbling sanity do the heavy lifting while the characters slowly realize that this house is not interested in their personal growth or survival. Ep 188: Speed 2: Cruise Control - JAN-uary

Speed 2: Cruise Control raises the stakes by putting the “can’t slow down” concept on a luxury cruise ship, where former cop Alex Shaw and vacationer Annie discover their relaxing getaway is being hijacked by a disgruntled tech villain with a grudge and a keyboard. As the massive ship barrels forward with all the agility of a floating shopping mall, the heroes scramble to outthink a plan that involves both cyber sabotage and very old-fashioned collisions. The result is a glossy, overconfident sequel that leans into spectacle, proving that momentum is a flexible concept when you’re dealing with something the size of a small city. LIVESTREAM REPLAY: The Running Man (2025)

This is a REPLAY of our livestream from November 18th, 2025, where we discussed the 2025 adaptation of THE RUNNING MAN! We went to the theater to see the brand new adaptation of the Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) classic story, directed by one of Derrick's favorite directors, Edgar Wright! Down-on-his-luck father Ben Richards, played by human capybara Glen Powell, enters a brutal televised game show where “runners” must survive 30 days on the run while being hunted by professional killers. Desperate to secure funds to care for his sick daughter and escape the oppressive dystopian state, Richards becomes a symbol of defiance against a corrupt system built on spectacle and fear.

    Ep 187: Twister - JAN-uary

Twister follows a group of storm-chasing scientists who treat tornadoes like both a research grant and a personal vendetta. As rival teams race across Oklahoma farmland in increasingly dented pickup trucks, divorced meteorologists Jo and Bill get pulled back together by unfinished emotional business and several extremely aggressive funnels of destruction. The film barrels forward with roaring weather, flying debris, and a sense that every conversation can wait until after the next near-death experience, turning natural disaster into a loud, fast-moving test of science, stubbornness, and nerves. In this final episode of The Book of Boba Fett, “In the Name of Honor,” the Pyke Syndicate wages war on Boba Fett’s forces in Mos Espa, but Boba’s got backup: Din Djarin, the Mods, Black Krrsantan, and a very dramatic rancor entrance. And just when things look grim, Grogu shows up to tame a rampaging rancor like it’s a sleepy puppy.
