The Monkey, the Coconut, and What You Won't Let Go Of
The Monkey, the Coconut, and What You Won't Let Go Of On aparigraha, a three-year-old in the hallway, and the art of loosening your grip. There's an old story about a monkey and a coconut — and it might be one of the most honest teachings yoga has ever offered us. In this episode, Andrea shares the full Hanuman story and explores the yogic principle of aparigraha (non-attachment): what it really means, why it's so hard, and what it looks like to actually live it. She also shares a real moment from a recent yin yoga class at her new studio — where her three-year-old running down the hallway mid-class became the most alive teaching of the day. Spoiler: she caught herself mid-grip. And it felt really good. In this episode ✦ The full Hanuman and coconut trap story — and what it teaches us about freedom ✦ What aparigraha (non-attachment) actually means in everyday life ✦ How Andrea embodied her own teaching in an unexpected moment of solo parenting ✦ Why yoga nidra and the 40-day sadhana are teaching her about letting go ✦ A reflection question for your summer: what is your sweet treat inside the coconut? Reflection prompt What are you clinging to right now? What is it that you're gripping so tightly that it's keeping you stuck? Let aparigraha be your invitation this summer — not to drop everything, but to notice where your fist is still closed. Mentioned in this episode ✦ Yin yoga class at [Studio Name] — new studio! ✦ Andrea's yoga nidra teacher training (5-month program with Tracee Stanley) ✦ 40-day sadhana — currently in progress ✦ Aparigraha — one of the yamas in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras Connect with Andrea 🌿 Website: andreaclaassen.com 📩 Weekly newsletter 🧘 Work with Andrea 1:1 💪 Seasonal Strength Summer Edition

The right pairings on and off the mat
The Right Pairing | Hallmark Mysteries & More Have you ever had a song hit you at exactly the right moment and completely undo you? That's where this episode starts — with a beautiful, tear-worthy moment in Season 4 of The Way Home — and it takes us somewhere much deeper. In this episode Andrea explores the Ayurvedic concept of the gunas — the three fundamental qualities of tamas, rajas, and sattva — and how they show up in everything around us. The music paired with a scene. The chemistry between actors. The food on your plate. The yoga class you choose on a Tuesday morning. Once you start seeing the gunas, you can't unsee them. The big idea? The right pairing changes everything. And when you understand your own Ayurvedic framework, you stop following everyone else's wellness rules and start finding what actually works for you. Whether you're a The Way Home fan, an Ayurveda curious beginner, or somewhere in between — this episode will leave you seeing the qualities around you in a whole new way. Work With Andrea Ready to find your own perfect pairings? The 1:1 eight-week Yoga and Ayurveda program was made for exactly this. How I Used AI to Deepen My Yoga Philosophy Practice (And Why I'm Still Skeptical)
I'll be honest — I don't use AI a lot. But this summer I did something unexpected with it, and I genuinely loved the result. In this episode I'm sharing how I used AI to build a personal Yoga Sutras morning devotional practice — something I searched for everywhere and couldn't find. I walk you through what I asked for, what it's given me, and why I've been showing up for it every single morning since mid-May. I'm also sharing where I'm still skeptical. Because I will stop reading mid-sentence if something feels hollow and AI-generated — and I think a lot of you feel the same way. This one is honest, a little unexpected, and very much from the heart. In this episode: Why I wanted a Yoga Sutras devotional practice this summer How I used AI as a creative collaborator — not a replacement The AI cadence that makes me stop reading (and why it matters) Where I've landed on the question of AI in wellness spaces The distinction that changed how I think about it: who's driving? The Devoted Student: Why One Practice Beats a Hundred
If you've ever cycled through meditation apps, techniques, and challenges without feeling like anything is actually sticking, this episode is for you. We're talking about what it really means to go deep in your practice, and why your nervous system craves repetition and return far more than variety. You'll learn why boredom in meditation is usually a sign you're right at the edge of a breakthrough, not a signal to switch things up. By the end, you'll have a simple framework for choosing one anchor practice and a reason to actually stay with it. This one might change the way you think about your entire relationship to practice. Why Spring Is the Most Powerful Time to Start Getting Strong (And What Ayurveda Says About It)
The last few weeks I've taught a one day retreat and an Ayurvedic spring workshop. The theme I really tried to nail down for both groups. Gunas or qualities of the season. Noticing what is happening outside the body is happening within. If you understand the gunas it makes Ayurveda much easier to understand why we make the decisions to avoid salads in the winter, avoid overly heavy foods in the spring, or have hot tea in the summer months. Today I break down the gunas of the spring season. Rethinking Heavy Lifting?
In this episode, we challenge the popular notion that more weight equals more progress. With nearly two decades of coaching experience, I explore why "lifting heavy every workout" can leave you stiff, sore, and spread thin across the activities you love, things like tennis, yoga, and daily life. I'm sharing a practical, seasonally aware approach to strength that combines science with lived experience, emphasizing blocks, smart loading, and purposeful tapering. If you're tired of burnout and want strength that supports your lifestyle, this episode is for you. Samantha Chandler- Follow the Iron: A Whole New Way to Look at Women's Health
Have you been told your iron is low and handed a supplement? Before you reach for that pill, this episode might just change everything you thought you knew about iron and your body. Today on the Peaceful Power Podcast, I'm sitting down with Samantha Chandler — also known as Wellness & Womb — a Women's Wellness Coach who is flipping the script on iron and women's health. Samantha coaches women, health providers, and even doctors on iron's movement, and the results she sees with her clients are nothing short of transformative. Here's what might surprise you — low iron in the blood doesn't mean iron is low in your body. And the supplements, prenatals, multivitamins, iron infusions, and fortified foods we've been told to rely on? They may actually be getting in the way of your body's natural wisdom. We also dive deep into something so many of us have been conditioned to believe — that our menstrual cycles are burdens. Samantha flips that narrative completely and shares why our cycles are actually one of our greatest gifts and a key piece of the iron puzzle. About Samantha Chandler Samantha Chandler, known as Wellness & Womb, is a Women's Wellness Coach specializing in iron's movement. She has worked with 100+ women and also coaches health providers and doctors to help get to the root of the issues women are experiencing in their health. The 5 Vayus and Why I Have Been Obsessed With Them for 2 Years
Two years ago Andrea started teaching the Vayus in her yoga classes and has not stopped since. Not because she ran out of things to teach but because she kept finding new layers. Every time she thought she had fully digested the material something new would reveal itself. In this episode Andrea breaks down the five Vayus, the subtle movements of Prana or life force energy that are happening inside your body right now whether you know it or not. These are the most accessible and digestible entry point into Ayurveda she has found and after two years of teaching them she is sharing everything in one place. In this 31 minute episode you will learn: What the Vayus are and why they matter in your yoga practice Apana Vayu and the art of letting go Samana Vayu and the art of integration and digestion Vyana Vayu and the art of circulation and flow Udana Vayu and the art of expression and rising Prana Vayu and the art of receiving Practical ways to work with each Vayu on and off your mat How the Vayus work together as one intelligent coordinated system inside your body Whether you are brand new to Ayurveda or have been practicing for years this episode will deepen the way you understand your own body and leave you curious to keep going. Brett Aldrich: Ayurveda for Late Winter/Spring during uncertain times
In this episode, Andrea is joined by Brett Aldrich for a timely and nourishing conversation about caring for ourselves as we move from late winter into early spring—both physically and emotionally. Together, they explore Ayurvedic wisdom for this seasonal threshold, a time when heaviness lingers in the body while the urge to move, cleanse, and begin again quietly emerges. This is a season that asks for patience, gentleness, and steady rhythms rather than drastic change. The conversation also gently acknowledges the current political and cultural climate—the tension, fatigue, and distraction many are feeling—and offers grounding perspectives on how to stay focused, embodied, and rooted in what we can control during uncertain and emotionally charged times. This episode is an invitation to tend your nervous system, simplify your practices, and come back to what truly sustains you. In this episode, we discuss: Ayurvedic guidance for late winter and early spring (Kapha season) How to support digestion, energy, and mood during seasonal transition Gentle movement, nourishment, and daily rhythms for this time of year The impact of the political climate on the nervous system Practices for staying grounded, focused, and regulated when the world feels heavy Why simplicity and consistency matter more than perfection right now Connect with Brett https://seedthespirit.com/ Where to connect with Andrea Website: https://andreaclaassen.com/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/seasonalandrea Perimenopause Support Quiz: https://quiz.tryinteract.com/#/681d3069f79fde0015c88d8c 8 Week Perimenopause Reset https://andreaclaassen.com/8-week-perimenopause-program 5 Day Stillness Challenge https://andreaclaassen.com/sacred-stillness-challenge Andrea Claassen Bio Andrea Claassen is an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor, RYT 500 hour yoga teacher, and personal trainer who has been in the wellness space since 2007. Returning to the Forest: My Octopus Teacher Yoga, and the Art of Noticing
I just watched My Octopus Teacher on Netflix, yes I'm a little late to the party as it came out in 2020 has won several awards and it's easy to see why. It's beautifully filmed, and deeply moving. You might need Kleenex. It follows a man who keeps returning to the same kelp forest, and the more he revisits, the more he discovers about life, patience, and connection. That same pattern shows up in my yoga practice: you notice the subtle shifts, the energy changes with each pose, and the way certain mantras and vayus shape your day after practice. Dr. Jamie Knopman on Owning Your Fertility: Perimenopause, Hormones & Informed Choice
Fertility conversations are often framed in extremes urgency or avoidance, hope or fear, "do everything now" or "don't worry about it yet." In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Jaime Knopman, known as the "Queen of Egg Freezing" and author of the forthcoming book Own Your Fertility. I will take my weights and yoga seperate, please
In today's wellness culture, everything is about efficiency combining workouts, stacking habits, and optimizing every minute of the day. Strength training blended with yoga. Meditation layered into movement. Rest squeezed in wherever possible. But what if that constant blending is part of the problem? In this solo episode of the Peaceful Power Podcast, I share why I choose to keep my strength training and yoga practices separate and why that choice feels deeply supportive, especially for women navigating midlife, burnout, postpartum recovery, or perimenopause. This conversation is an invitation to step away from biohacking culture and return to integrity-based practices where strength is allowed to be strength, and stillness is allowed to be still. In this episode, Andrea reflects on a tiredness she's sensing in the collective one that sits deep in the body, the nervous system, and the heart. Rather than rushing to fix, reframe, or push through it, this conversation is an invitation to pause and remember: the basics are enough right now. This is a gentle reminder that we don't need more optimization, more effort, or more self-improvement to be okay. Sometimes what truly supports us—especially in seasons of stress, uncertainty, or transition is returning to the simplest practices that help us stay. Andrea weaves together reflections from teaching yoga, living through the current moment, and supporting women navigating burnout and midlife transitions. This episode is especially for anyone feeling overwhelmed, worn down, or quietly holding a lot. In this episode, we explore: The "tiredness in the air" and how it shows up in the body Why slowing down is not avoidance, but wisdom What it means to stay with what's here instead of rushing past it Simple ways to support your nervous system when energy is low A reminder that rest, breath, and presence are powerful medicine You don't need to do more to be worthy of care. You don't need to push to be resilient. You are allowed to stay with the basics and let that be enough. When Choice Feels Uncomfortable: Yoga, Autonomy & Learning to Trust Yourself Again
What happens when choice feels harder than being told what to do? In this reflective solo episode, Andrea Claassen yoga teacher of 19 years shares a moment from a recent yoga class that opened a deeper conversation about autonomy, embodiment, and why so many of us feel uneasy when invited to listen to our own bodies. A student's comment about "too much jargon" revealed something more profound: a discomfort with choice itself. Andrea explores how modern yoga, fitness, and wellness often prioritize compliance over self-trust—and why that approach stops working, especially in perimenopause and midlife. This episode is for women who are tired of rigid rules, one-size-fits-all programs, and constantly outsourcing their inner knowing. It's an invitation to slow down, tune in, and reclaim yoga as a practice of discernment not obedience. Why Pushing Harder Stops Working in Perimenopause (and What to Do Instead)
In this episode, we explore: How perimenopause changes stress tolerance, recovery, and energy Why workouts that once felt empowering may now feel depleting The myth that "more discipline" fixes hormonal and nervous system shifts Why strength training is still essential in perimenopause—but needs to be done differently How yoga, pranayama, and stillness support the nervous system during hormonal transition What Ayurveda teaches us about listening to the body instead of overriding it Why rhythm, awareness, and attunement matter more than intensity in midlife Where to connect with Andrea Website: https://andreaclaassen.com/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/seasonalandrea Free Trial Week of Perimenopause workouts: https://andreaclaassen.com/8-week-perimenopause-program Perimenopause Power Hour Workshop (Virtual) Date: January 17th- 9am CST Andrea Claassen Bio Andrea Claassen is an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor, RYT 500 hour yoga teacher, and personal trainer who has been in the wellness space since 2007. From Burnout to Wise Woman Energy: A New Way Forward in 2026
Wise Woman Energy: Listening Differently at the Threshold of a New Year As the year comes to a close, many women find themselves standing in a quiet in-between tired, reflective, and sensing that the old ways of pushing and powering through no longer work. In this episode, Andrea invites you into the liminal space between what has been and what's emerging, naming burnout not as a failure, but as a wise, body-based message. This conversation speaks directly to women in perimenopause who are "doing all the right things" yet still feel off, exhausted, or disconnected from their bodies. Together, we explore what Wise Woman Energy truly means: rhythm over hustle, strength with recovery, stillness as power, and devotion to the body instead of control. Andrea shares how perimenopause amplifies the cost of overgiving and overtraining, and why this season of life often brings grief alongside profound initiation as old strategies fall away. Through the lens of seasonal living and nervous system safety, this episode reframes rest, nourishment, and intuition as essential, not optional. This episode also gently opens the door to what's possible in 2026 a year rooted in sustainability rather than self-sacrifice. Listeners are invited to imagine training with their hormones, resting without guilt, nourishing instead of restricting, and asking for support along the way. The episode closes with a simple reflective ritual and a soft invitation to explore deeper support through January offerings designed to help women listen differently and move forward with wisdom and care. In this episode, you'll hear about: ✨ Why burnout is a body message, not a mindset problem ✨ How perimenopause changes the rules and why that's not a failure ✨ What Wise Woman Energy really looks like in daily life ✨ The grief and initiation that come when old strategies stop working ✨ Reimagining health, strength, and rest as we step into a new year If your body is asking for a different way forward, this episode is an invitation to pause, listen, and remember the wisdom already within you. Setting Yourself up for 2026
What I'm Holding Dear as We Move Into December: Ritual, Promise & Intention As we move into December, something ancient stirs. The days shorten. The light thins. The nervous system if we let it begins to exhale. December is not meant to be conquered. This season asks for fewer resolutions and more reverence. Less striving, more remembering. And as I sit with what feels most essential right now both personally and in my work I keep returning to three quiet anchors: Ritual. Promise. Intention.
