50th Episode! Do You Really Need a Business Plan? Part Two
What happens when the business you started becomes bigger than the way you originally ran it?That was the question behind Part 2 of my roundtable conversation with Chelsea Foy, Amber Briggle, Hannah Ulbrich, Janice Rostron, and Krista Patterson. When I first started training, I had no real plan. I'd do 10 reps one day, 15 the next, and finish with 45 minutes on the stair climber because apparently that was what we did in the '90s.Eventually, working in fitness taught me something different: structure isn't optional if you want to make progress. But structure doesn't mean rigidity. And that's where business gets interesting. As these five entrepreneurs have grown, they've had to build systems around everything from employees and client management to contracts, scheduling, creativity, technology, and the decisions they make about what opportunities to pursue.Hannah Ulbrich talks about the complexity of scaling to multiple locations and managing dozens of employees. Janice Rostron shares how hiring allowed her to stop doing everything herself. Chelsea Foy explains how she learned to systematize creativity without killing the creative process. And Krista Patterson reflects on the foundational systems she wishes she'd put in place earlier. We also get into something I think every entrepreneur eventually has to confront:You can't do everything yourself.Sometimes the smartest investment isn't another piece of software. It's the right person.🎙️ Listen to Part 2 wherever you get your podcasts.Subscribe to The Fitness of Business for practical conversations that help you build a stronger business—without sacrificing yourself along the way.Have a “Hey Coach” question?Submit your questions to: [email protected]🔗 Stay ConnectedIf you want more conversations about business, leadership, movement, and sustainable success, you can find me here:🌐 Website: https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce✉️ Email: [email protected]📝 Substack: https://leslieboyce.substack.comI share weekly insights, behind-the-scenes reflections, and resources for business owners who want to grow without burning out.Connect with my guests:Krista Patterson: www.instagram.com/positioningcollectiveHannah Ulbrich: www.instagram.com/copperdoorcoffee/Chelsea Foy: www.lovelyindeed.comJanice Rostron: http://jfnr.netAmber Briggle: www.mysomamassage.com

Do You Really Need a Business Plan? Part One
Who here actually wrote a business plan before launching their business, and how accurate or helpful was it?That’s where I started this roundtable with Hannah Ulbrich, Amber Briggle, Krista Patterson, Janice Rostron, and Chelsea Foy.The answers were all over the place. Some had written business plans because they needed financing. Some hadn't written one at all. Some started their businesses almost accidentally and only developed a more formal plan once they realized they were onto something.I know the feeling myself. When I opened my gym, I had a business plan because I needed an SBA loan. I put numbers into a spreadsheet and confidently projected that we'd be profitable in six months. Let's just say the actual business had some other ideas. And that's part of the reality of entrepreneurship: sometimes you don't even know the questions you need to ask until you're already doing the thing. It reminds me of starting a new training program. You don't walk into a gym knowing exactly how much you'll lift six months from now. You start with what you know, learn the movements, get coaching, adjust the weight, and build strength as you go.Business can work the same way.In Part 1 of our conversation, we get honest about what we actually knew when we started, what we had to learn along the way, and whether a business plan needs to be the first step, or simply one tool that can evolve as the business does.If you've ever thought, “I need to figure everything out before I can start,” this conversation is for you.🎙️ Listen to Part 1 wherever you get your podcasts.Subscribe to The Fitness of Business for practical conversations that help you build a stronger business—without sacrificing yourself along the way.Have a “Hey Coach” question?Submit your questions to: [email protected]🔗 Stay ConnectedIf you want more conversations about business, leadership, movement, and sustainable success, you can find me here:🌐 Website: https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce✉️ Email: [email protected]📝 Substack: https://leslieboyce.substack.comI share weekly insights, behind-the-scenes reflections, and resources for business owners who want to grow without burning out.Connect with my guests:Krista Patterson: www.instagram.com/positioningcollectiveHannah Ulbrich: www.instagram.com/copperdoorcoffee/Chelsea Foy: www.lovelyindeed.comJanice Rostron: http://jfnr.netAmber Briggle: www.mysomamassage.com

TREAD TALKS: Even Creativity Needs a Plan
Have you ever had a great idea on a walk and completely forgotten it by the time you got home?Chelsea Foy built a fifteen-year lifestyle brand on creativity, but she learned that having ideas was never the hard part. Capturing and managing them was.She built simple systems around her creativity: a notepad beside the bed, one place for screenshots and inspiration, and a monthly review to figure out which ideas actually had legs.It reminded me of something we already know in fitness: making progress takes more than motivation. You need a program, some structure, a way to track what you're doing, and enough consistency to see what's actually working.Creativity is no different.Inspiration doesn't stop coming. But without a system, your best ideas can disappear into your phone, your notebook, or the back of your brain.Your one tip: choose one place where every idea goes. Then give yourself a recurring time to go back through them and decide what deserves your attention.Because ideas scattered across seventeen different places aren't a creative pipeline. They're clutter.Want more on this? Go listen to the roundtable episode with Chelsea Foy, Amber Briggle, Hannah Ulbrich, Janice Rostron, and Krista Patterson, where we get into systems, structure, and what we'd do differently if we were starting over. TREAD TALKS | Nobody's Watching Your Set as Closely as You Think
Have you ever said something vulnerable out loud and immediately thought, “What are they going to think of me?”That's exactly where Vera Ilnyckyj found herself during her first speaking panel. She shared a deeply personal story about divorce and getting fired in front of a room of women—and immediately assumed she'd given them a reason to write her off.But here's the thing about vulnerability: we're often far more focused on how we're being perceived than anyone else actually is.Think about walking into a new gym. You might feel like everyone is watching your form, your weights, or whether you even know what you're doing. But most people are in the middle of their own set, watching themselves.Business can feel the same way. You're worried people are judging your post, your pricing, your story, or whether you really belong in the room. Meanwhile, the person you're worried about may be thinking about their own doubts and struggles.Vera finished that panel convinced she'd embarrassed herself. Instead, women lined up afterward to tell her she'd said what they'd been afraid to say themselves.Sometimes the thing you're most afraid will make people judge you is exactly what makes someone else feel less alone. So before you hit delete on the honest post or hold back the story you really want to tell, ask yourself:What if this doesn't make me look foolish? What if it helps someone else feel seen? Then hit send.🎙️ Want more on the mental game of starting a business? The Mental Game of Business: Part Two
You Trained for the Lift. But Can You Sustain It? Starting a business takes courage. But what happens after you've taken the leap?In Part 1 of this roundtable, Judy Murdoch, Lauren Schoenfeld, Vera Ilnyckyj, and I talked about the mental game of starting a business—putting yourself out there, dealing with self-doubt, and finding the courage to keep going when things don't go as planned. Now, in Part 2, we take the conversation further. As a trainer and athlete, I know that preparing for a one-rep max isn't just about building the strength to make the lift. You also have to think about recovery, energy, boundaries, and what will allow you to keep showing up for the next lift.Business is no different.Once you're in it, how do you protect your time and energy? How do you know when an investment isn't paying off? When do you need to change course? And how do you build a business that supports you instead of slowly burning you out?Lauren, Judy, and Vera get honest about the lessons they've learned along the way—from setting boundaries that protect them from their own tendencies, to reevaluating investments, seeking the right support, and recognizing that entrepreneurship is an ongoing personal development journey. If Part 1 was about getting your mind ready to step under the bar, Part 2 is about building a business that lets you keep lifting. If this episode resonates with you, I'd love for you to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with another entrepreneur who needs this conversation.Subscribe to The Fitness of Business for practical conversations that help you build a stronger business—without sacrificing yourself along the way.Have a “Hey Coach” question?Submit your questions to: [email protected]🔗 Stay ConnectedIf you want more conversations about business, leadership, movement, and sustainable success, you can find me here:🌐 Website: https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce✉️ Email: [email protected]📝 Substack: https://leslieboyce.substack.comI share weekly insights, behind-the-scenes reflections, and resources for business owners who want to grow without burning out.Connect with my guests:Judy Murdoch: https://judymurdoch.substack.com/Lauren Schoenfeld: http://activecoreconsulting.comVera Ilnyckyj: createyourbestchapter.com

TREAD TALKS | When Business Feels Like a Threat: How to Recover After Getting Hurt Online
Ever had someone tear you apart online and felt like your whole body wanted to disappear?Judy Murdoch knows that feeling. After some difficult experiences on social media, she described wanting to hide—not just mentally, but physically. Her nervous system was on high alert, and it could take a day or two before she felt back to baseline.Think about what happens before a heavy lift. Your heart rate rises. Your breathing changes. Your body prepares for a threat.Your nervous system doesn't always know the difference between a heavy barbell and a harsh comment online. It simply reacts. And that's an important lesson for entrepreneurs.Putting yourself out there means eventually facing criticism, rejection, or someone who simply doesn't like what you've said or offered. The answer isn't to "toughen up" and ignore what your body is telling you. It's to build recovery into the process. Before your next launch, pricing change, or vulnerable post, decide what your reset routine will be when something stings. Take a walk. Call someone who understands. Step away from the comments for a day.Program the recovery before you need it.In this week's full roundtable episode, Judy Murdoch, Lauren Schoenfeld, Vera Ilnyckyj, and I talk about the mental game of starting a business—from imposter syndrome and self-doubt to putting yourself out there and dealing with the moments when it hurts.🎙️Listen to the full episode wherever you get your podcasts.Subscribe to The Fitness of Business for practical coaching that helps you build a stronger business—and a stronger life.If you enjoyed this episode, please follow, rate, and leave a review. TREAD TALKS: Don't Wait for the Hole-in-One
"You're not gonna get a hole-in-one, that's for sure."That's Judy Murdoch on this week's episode, comparing putting yourself out there in business to playing golf. You don't sink the ball on your first swing. You chip. You hit the ball. It moves a little. You adjust. You hit it again. That's the game. And Judy has spent her entire career in marketing, yet she still says she's had far more misses than hits.If you're sitting on an idea right now, waiting until you feel ready—or certain it will work—you may be waiting for something that rarely happens: the perfect first shot.In this Tread Talk, I explore why starting a business is less about certainty and more about taking repeated, visible action.Your takeaway: Stop measuring readiness by certainty. Measure it by reps. Pick one small action you can take this week—one post, one email, one offer to one person—and let it be imperfect. The chipping isn't a placeholder for the real strategy. The chipping is the strategy. If this resonates with you, go listen to the full two-part conversation with Judy Murdoch, Lauren Schoenfeld, and Vera Ilnyckyj. The Mental Game of Business: Part One
Starting a business is about more than having a great idea, a solid offer, or the right skills. There’s a mental game that comes with putting yourself out there, taking risks, handling rejection, and continuing to move forward when things don’t go according to plan.In this roundtable conversation, I’m joined by Judy Murdoch, Lauren Schoenfeld, and Vera Ilnyckyj to talk honestly about the mindset challenges that come with starting a business. We talk about the fear of being seen, perfectionism, putting yourself out there before you feel ready, learning to expect mistakes, and the importance of having people in your corner. We also explore how your mindset and needs evolve as your business grows—and why the support you need at one stage may not be the support you need at the next.If you're thinking about starting a business, are somewhere in those early stages, or simply need a reminder that you're not supposed to figure it all out alone, this conversation is for you.If this episode resonates with you, I'd love for you to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with another entrepreneur who needs this conversation.Subscribe to The Fitness of Business for practical conversations that help you build a stronger business—without sacrificing yourself along the way.Have a “Hey Coach” question?Submit your questions to: [email protected]🔗 Stay ConnectedIf you want more conversations about business, leadership, movement, and sustainable success, you can find me here:🌐 Website: https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce✉️ Email: [email protected]📝 Substack: https://leslieboyce.substack.comI share weekly insights, behind-the-scenes reflections, and resources for business owners who want to grow without burning out.Connect with my guests:Judy Murdoch: https://judymurdoch.substack.com/Lauren Schoenfeld: http://activecoreconsulting.comVera Ilnyckyj: createyourbestchapter.com

TREAD TALKS: Business Boundaries & How to Set Them before You Need Them
Business Boundaries: Set Them Before You Need Them "The boundaries I've had to set are basically to protect me from me."That's Lauren Schoenfeld, a self-described recovering perfectionist and workaholic, sharing one of the most practical lessons from this week's roundtable conversation. When you're starting a business, it's easy to think boundaries are something you'll figure out later—once you have clients, more work, or a bigger business. But what if you set them before you need them?Lauren never gave clients her cell phone number because she knew exactly what would happen: if a client texted her at 10pm, she'd probably answer. So she built the boundary before she needed the willpower to enforce it.In this Tread Talk, I explore why boundaries are easier to build into your business from the beginning than to introduce after unhealthy habits have already formed.Your takeaway: Before your first client or next big project, identify one boundary you're likely to struggle with—your working hours, response time, or how clients can reach you—and set it now.And if you want to hear more about boundaries, burnout, and the realities of building a business, tune in tomorrow for Part 1 of my roundtable conversation with Lauren Schoenfeld, Judy Murdoch, and Vera Ilnyckyj. We go much deeper into the boundaries they've had to build, the lessons they've learned, and what they'd invest in if money weren't a constraint.Part 1 drops tomorrow. TREAD TALKS: Own What You Know
Don't Hide Your PRs: Why Owning Your Expertise Isn't BraggingWelcome back to Tread Talks. Real coaching moments. From the scary, messy, exciting startup space. Take the next two minutes to move your body — and your business — forward. And remember: you're not doing this alone. Can I tell you something I'm a little embarrassed about? When I closed my gym, I started introducing myself as "just a trainer." Just. Like everything I'd built, everything I knew, everything I'd put in the work for — was somehow less than what it used to be.I used to give my gym members a burpee penalty for talking about themselves that way.I owe myself a lot of burpees. Here's a Hey Coach question that hits this one right on the head."Hey Coach. I have the credentials, the experience, the whole resume — but every time I try to show up as the expert, I downplay it. Why is it so hard to just own what I know?" Nobody hides their PRs to make the person on the next platform feel better about their lift. You post it. You own it. It's proof of the work you put in — and it's exactly what tells the right person they're in good hands.Your credentials are your training log. They belong on the wall.I worked with a client launching her own podcast — an actual doctorate behind her name — who kept finding ways to minimize it. Worried it would feel like bragging. Worried it would make her seem unapproachable. Here's what I told her:Your one tip:Stop treating your expertise like a spoiler. The right people aren't intimidated by your credentials — they're looking for them. Owning what you know isn't arrogance. It's how the people who need you most actually find you.Remember, progress happens one rep at a time — in your body and your business. 📞Book a call with me here🎧 If startup overwhelm is keeping you stuck, you don't have to figure it out alone. Who YOU Are is Enough. Build a Business Without Losing Yourself
You’re Already Enough: Building a Business Without Losing Yourself | Featuring Abby Bradetich What if the biggest thing holding your business back isn't your strategy... but the belief that you need to become someone else before you're ready? In this episode of The Fitness of Business, I sit down with brand strategist and business coach Abby Bradetich to unpack one of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face: building a business that actually reflects who they are instead of chasing what everyone else is doing online. We talk about why comparison steals creativity, how overconsumption keeps entrepreneurs stuck, and why your best ideas rarely arrive while you're scrolling social media. Abby also shares how creating space, trusting your own voice, and addressing limiting beliefs can completely change the way you show up in business. If you've ever felt like you need to copy someone else's formula to succeed, this conversation will remind you that your greatest advantage is being authentically you.In this episode, we discuss:Why authenticity creates stronger businesses than imitationHow comparison quietly undermines confidenceThe hidden cost of constantly consuming contentCreating space for creativity and clearer thinkingWhy mindset work accelerates business growthBuilding a brand that feels natural instead of performativeLearning from others without becoming themYour One Takeaway:Stop asking, "How do I become more like them?" Investors Want Proof, Not Just Potential Welcome back to Tread Talks. Real coaching moments. From the scary, messy, exciting startup space. Take the next two minutes to move your body — and your business — forward. And remember: you're not doing this alone.Having a great idea isn't enough.Neither is a polished pitch deck. Before investors believe in your business, they want evidence that customers already do.In this episode of Tread Talks, I share a coaching lesson inspired by a startup founder who asked whether they should start fundraising before landing their first paying customer. The answer isn't about having everything figured out—it's about proving that your idea works in the real world.Just like a gym tests a new class with a small beta group before putting it on the official schedule, your business needs real-world validation before asking others to invest in it.If you're building a startup, raising capital, or wondering how to gain traction before pitching investors, this episode will help you focus on what matters most.In this episode:Why traction matters more than a beautiful pitch deckHow beta testing reduces startup riskThe value of pop-ups, pre-sales, and waitlistsWhat investors really want to seeTurning customer feedback into business momentumWhy progress starts with proof—not perfectionYour One Tip:Before you ask investors to believe in your vision, give them evidence that customers already do. TREAD TALKS: Get Out of Your Own Way
The Plan in the Binder Doesn't Count: How to Finally Launch Your Business You've finished the business plan. You know exactly who you want to help. So why haven't you told anyone you're starting? In this episode of Tread Talks, I answer a coaching question that almost every entrepreneur faces at the beginning of their journey: fear of putting themselves out there.Starting a business is vulnerable. It's easy to keep tweaking the plan, waiting for the perfect moment, or convincing yourself you need one more course, one more strategy, or one more month before you're ready. But a business plan sitting in a binder or hidden in a folder on your laptop doesn't build a business.Drawing on a lesson from coaching new gym members, I explain why momentum begins with one small action—not one giant leap—and how a simple beta launch can help you move from planning to actually serving people. In this episode:Why launching a business feels so vulnerableThe real reason entrepreneurs delay startingWhy perfect execution doesn't existHow a soft launch builds confidence and momentumOne practical step you can take todayYour One Tip: Don't launch to everyone. TREAD TALKS: You Built It. Now Trust It.
Get Out of Your Own Way: The Leadership Shift Every Business Owner Must MakeAt some point, every coach has to stop coaching. Not forever—but long enough to let the athlete do the work. The same is true in business. As entrepreneurs, we spend years building systems, training employees, creating processes, and solving problems. Then, when it's time to trust those systems, we jump right back in and start doing everything ourselves again. In this episode, I share a powerful clip from my conversation with Hannah Ulbrich, founder of Copper Door Coffee, a multi-location coffee roasting company. Hannah recounts a moment when an employee told her something many business owners desperately need to hear:"You're in your own way. Get out of your own way."We talk about why letting go feels so uncomfortable, how micromanagement can quietly sabotage growth, and why leadership often requires stepping back instead of stepping in.If you're struggling to delegate, trust your team, or stop being the bottleneck in your business, this episode is for you.In this episode:Why entrepreneurs become accidental bottlenecksThe difference between supporting a system and controlling itHow micromanagement limits business growthLearning to trust the people and processes you've builtA practical exercise to identify what still depends on you unnecessarilyThe leadership skill of stepping backYour One Tip:Identify one thing in your business that only runs through you—and shouldn't. TREAD TALKS: Success At What Cost?
Redefining What Business Success Really Means We’ve been taught to measure success in business the same way we measure strength in the gym — bigger, heavier, more.More revenue.More clients.More growth. But what happens when the numbers go up and your quality of life goes down?In this episode, I’m challenging the idea that success is only valid if your business keeps scaling. Because bigger isn’t always better — and growth without alignment can quietly cost you your time, energy, health, and relationships.Just like being able to deadlift 500 pounds doesn’t automatically mean you’re healthy, high revenue doesn’t automatically mean your business is working for you.If your business is expanding but your life is shrinking, it’s worth asking: what exactly are we building? In This Episode:Why revenue is not the only measure of successThe hidden cost of “always growing” as an entrepreneurWhy more money can still mean more stress and less freedomHow business owners lose quality of life while scalingA healthier way to define success in your businessYour One Tip:Define your own success metrics. Not just revenue goals — but life goals too:Time with familyFlexibility in your scheduleEnergy levelsRest and recoveryNumber of hours you actually want to workAnd remember: Staying steady is not failing. Have you ever felt like you're doing everything you're supposed to do to grow your business—posting consistently, networking, showing up online—and yet nothing seems to translate into paying clients? You're not alone. In this episode, I sit down with Candice Smith, founder of French Press PR and creator of the VizDev Framework, to talk about the difference between being visible and being valuable. We explore why more content, more networking, and more marketing tactics aren't always the answer—and how clarity, trust, relationships, and strategic positioning often matter far more than simply getting in front of more people.Candice shares her CASA Framework for building visibility with intention, explains why your lived experience is often your greatest differentiator, and offers practical advice for entrepreneurs who feel stuck despite putting in the work.If you've ever wondered why your visibility isn't turning into opportunities, clients, or revenue, this conversation will help you identify what may be missing. In This Episode:Why visibility doesn't automatically create trustThe biggest mistake entrepreneurs make when defining their audienceHow to identify your true value propositionWhy your lived experience matters more than you thinkThe role of relationships in business growthHow to stop panic-marketing and start building strategicallyThe difference between attention and tractionPractical ways to convert visibility into paying clientsIf you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with another entrepreneur who needs to hear it.Have a “Hey Coach” question?Submit your questions to: [email protected]🔗 Stay ConnectedIf this episode resonated and you want more conversations about business, leadership, movement, and sustainable success, you can find me here:🌐 Website: https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce✉️ Email: [email protected]📝 Substack: https://leslieboyce.substack.comI share weekly insights, behind-the-scenes reflections, and resources for business owners who want to grow without burning out.Connect with Candice here:🌐 Website - VizDev Quiz: http://bit.ly/vizdev📝 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/candicecourtneysmith

TREAD TALKS: Run Your Own Race
Stop Borrowing Someone Else’s Brand: Build What’s Actually YoursIt’s easy to look at what other businesses are doing and assume that’s the blueprint for success. The highlight reels. The aesthetics. The “viral” content strategies. But just because something looks successful doesn’t mean it’s aligned with your business. In this episode, I’m talking about what happens when entrepreneurs start copying other brands instead of building from their own truth — and why that disconnect is one of the fastest ways to lose clarity in your marketing.I’m sharing a story from my time running a CrossFit gym, where I constantly saw other gyms posting intense, high-performance content that didn’t reflect what we were actually about: community, relationships, and real human connection. And that’s the lesson — visibility without alignment will always feel off.If you’ve ever questioned whether your content “looks right” compared to others, this episode will help you reset your focus and come back to what actually makes your brand strong: authenticity. In This Episode:Why entrepreneurs copy what they see onlineThe danger of borrowing someone else’s brand identityWhy visibility ≠ alignmentHow to recognize what actually reflects your businessA simple mindset shift before creating contentYour One Tip:Before you create content this week, pause and ask:“Does this actually reflect my brand — or am I copying what I see?”Build from what’s real. TREAD TALKS: Schedule CEO Time
Schedule CEO Time: Stop Reacting & Start Leading Your Business Most entrepreneurs don’t struggle because they aren’t working hard enough. They struggle because they never stop long enough to lead. It’s easy to spend your entire week answering emails, serving clients, solving problems, and reacting to whatever feels urgent. But staying busy is not the same as building a business with intention. In this episode, I’m talking about why every business owner needs dedicated CEO time — space to step back, review the numbers, evaluate priorities, and make decisions from strategy instead of stress.Because financial fitness in business doesn’t come from constantly doing more. It comes from creating systems, reviewing progress, and giving yourself permission to think long term.If you’ve been stuck in the day-to-day grind and feeling disconnected from the bigger picture, this episode will help you reset your focus and lead your business more intentionally. In This Episode:Why entrepreneurs get trapped in reactive workThe difference between being busy and being strategicHow “CEO time” improves business clarity and financial fitnessWhy reviewing your business regularly reduces overwhelmA simple weekly habit that can completely change your decision-makingYour One Tip:Put a recurring CEO meeting on your calendar, even if it’s only 30 minutes. Branding Beyond Logos | The Real Secret to Marketing That Actually Connects
When I owned my CrossFit gym, I spent a lot of time looking around at what other gyms were posting online. The ripped abs.The dramatic workouts. The chalk clouds. The competition photos. That just wasn’t us.Our gym was built around community, relationships, and the feeling people had when they walked through the door. But those things are harder to capture in a perfectly curated Instagram post.In this episode, I sit down with Brittany Woitas, founder of Kovly Studio, to talk about what actually makes a brand stand out in a crowded market. We dive into:Why the strongest brands aren’t the flashiest — they’re the truestThe danger of building your business around vanity metricsHow to stop copying competitors and market in a way that actually feels like youWhy pricing, boundaries, and leadership all shape your brandThe real reason so many business owners feel invisible onlineOne of my favorite takeaways from Brittany:“If your brand was a human, who would they be?”Because the businesses that create real connection aren’t trying to look like everyone else. A lot of business owners avoid looking at their numbers for the same reason people avoid stepping on a scale. Not because they hate data.Because they’ve attached meaning to it.“If revenue is down, I’m failing.”“If expenses are up, I’m doing something wrong.”“If I really look closely, I’m afraid of what I’ll find.”But your numbers are not a report card.In this episode, I talk about the emotional weight business owners attach to money, financials, and performance, and why avoiding the data usually creates more stress, not less.In this episode:Why financial avoidance is so common among entrepreneursHow money stress quietly affects your sleep, relationships, and decision-makingThe connection between business health and personal wellbeingWhy your numbers are simply information, not identityHow to stop spiraling and start using data as directionYour books are not there to shame you. They’re there to help you make better decisions.Your one tip this week:Open your books. No fixing. No judging. No panic. Just gather information before you start telling yourself stories.Submit your “Hey Coach” questions to [email protected]🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]

TREAD TALKS: Stop Glorifying Burnout
Recovery Is a Business Strategy, Not a RewardWe’ve built an entire culture around hustle and productivity, but very few people talk about what constant grinding actually costs. In this episode, I share a powerful insight from my conversation with Paul Postema about recovery, burnout, and the importance of intentional rest — not as something you earn after exhaustion, but as a strategy for sustaining success. We talk about:Why recovery is essential for entrepreneurs and leadersThe hidden cost of burnout on your business and relationshipsHow rest impacts clarity, decision-making, and creativityThe parallels between athletic recovery and business performanceWhy protecting your energy matters just as much as productivityIf you’ve been running on empty, constantly pushing through fatigue, or feeling guilty for slowing down, this episode is your reminder that rest is part of the work.Submit your “Hey Coach” questions to [email protected]🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]

Less Chaos. More Clarity
Systems, Boundaries, and Why Organization Isn’t About Perfection, with Janice Rostron Ever feel busy all day but somehow still behind? In this episode of The Fitness of Business, I sit down with professional organizer and productivity expert Janice Rostron to talk about the real relationship between clutter, overwhelm, boundaries, and sustainable business growth.Because organization is not about having perfectly color-coded perfection or a flawless routine. TREAD TALKS: Busy. But Behind
We know busy and productive are not the same thing, but so many business owners spend years confusing the two.In this episode, I share a powerful insight from my conversation with Kate Boyle about boundaries, decision-making, and learning to pause before saying yes to every opportunity.Because not every collaboration, meeting, or opportunity is actually moving your business forward. Sometimes it just feels productive. We talk about:Why “busy” can become a distraction from meaningful progressHow boundaries create clarity and momentumThe importance of intentional decision-making in businessWhy entrepreneurs often struggle to say noHow to evaluate whether opportunities align with your goalsIf you’ve been feeling scattered, overwhelmed, or stretched too thin, this episode will help you rethink the way you spend your time and energy.Submit your “Hey Coach” questions to [email protected]🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]

TREAD TALKS: Best Kept Secret?
You can be incredible at what you do and still stay invisible. This week, I’m sharing a powerful takeaway from my conversation with Ben Speich: your work doesn’t speak for itself.Because while we’d love to believe that being great at our craft is enough, the truth is that visibility matters. The most talented coach, trainer, or business owner isn’t always the one getting noticed. In this episode, we talk about:Why humility can accidentally become invisibilityThe mindset shift around self-promotionWhy “learning to brag a little” mattersHow sharing your work serves people, not just your egoOne simple challenge to help you become more visible this weekYou don’t need to become louder. But your work deserves an audience.🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce_📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]

Health Isn't a Hustle
You can work hard, eat “healthy,” squeeze in workouts, and still feel exhausted. So what happens when what used to work… suddenly doesn’t?This week I’m joined by registered dietitian nutritionist Jen Scheinman to unpack the overwhelm of modern wellness: conflicting advice, burnout, aging, hormones, energy crashes, and the pressure to optimize everything. We talk about:Why “healthy” can look different for different peopleThe science behind energy and mitochondrial healthWhy sleep may matter more than your dietSmall habits that create lasting changeHow high-achievers can stop treating wellness like another jobBecause your body isn’t failing you. TREAD TALKS: Cheap is Expensive - Saving Now Will Cost You Later
In this episode, I talk about one of the most expensive mistakes I see in business: trying to do everything yourself in the name of “saving money.” It feels responsible. It feels scrappy. But underneath it’s often fear dressed up as discipline.I share a conversation I had with Amber Briggle, where we unpacked how operating from scarcity kept her stuck in the early stages of growth longer than necessary. She believed she couldn’t afford help — so she did everything herself. And instead of saving money, she lost time, momentum, and opportunities she can’t get back.We also talk about the parallel I see all the time in fitness: no one questions hiring a trainer when they want results faster. Business works the same way. Support isn’t a luxury — it’s a multiplier. If you’ve been carrying everything in your business alone, this episode will help you reframe what “expensive” actually looks like.Your One Tip: Identify one thing you’re still doing yourself out of habit or fear. Price out what it would cost to get support. Then ask yourself what it’s costing you not to.🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce_📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]

TREAD TALKS: They Can’t Help If You Don't Ask
You don’t build strength by standing next to people in the gym.And you don’t build a business community by never asking for help.Finding your people is one thing. Actually leaning on them? That’s harder. In this episode of Tread Talk, I’m talking about why community matters in entrepreneurship — and why so many business owners struggle to truly rely on the people around them.We join networking groups. We attend events. We build connections. But many of us still try to carry everything alone.Using the analogy of a running club, I break down how real community works: not just proximity, but support, accountability, motivation, and momentum. This episode was inspired by my full conversation with Cynthia Moos, who shared that one of the biggest business strengths she wishes she had developed earlier was community — not as a bonus, but as a lifeline.Look at your circle right now. Are you actually leaning on them… or just keeping them nearby without ever asking for help?🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce_📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]

Handstands & Building a Business
What do handstands and entrepreneurship have in common? More than I realized. In this episode, I sit down with Sarah Fennell-Cooper, owner of Happy Gym in Denver and founder of Preschool Coaches League, to talk about what building strong foundations really looks like — in movement, business, leadership, and growth. We talk about:Why the foundations you build early matter more than you thinkThe reality of niching down and setting boundaries in businessWhat happens when your business suddenly depends fully on youThe difference between running an online business vs. a brick-and-mortar businessBuilding community and customer experience intentionallyDiversifying offers without losing your identityDelegation, systems, hiring, and scalingWhy saying “no” is one of the most important entrepreneurial skillsThis conversation is honest, funny, practical, and full of the kinds of lessons you only learn by actually building something. If you’ve ever wondered whether you should diversify, niche down, scale, simplify, or completely reinvent what you’re doing — this one’s for you.Connect With Sarah:🌐 Website: happygymdenver.com🌐 Website: happygymnastics.com (lesson plans, training)📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/happygymdenver🔗 Stay ConnectedIf this episode resonated and you want more conversations about business, leadership, movement, and sustainable success, you can find me here:🌐 Website: https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce_✉️ Email: [email protected]📝 Substack: https://leslieboyce.substack.comI share weekly insights, behind-the-scenes reflections, and resources for business owners who want to grow without burning out.

TREAD TALKS: Accountability is Not a Weakness
You may not want to admit that you work better when someone’s counting on you.Maybe it feels like you should be able to motivate yourself. Like needing accountability means you’re not disciplined enough. But even elite athletes don’t train alone. Not because they can’t. Because they know what’s at stake when someone expects them to show up.In this Tread Talk, I’m sharing:why accountability isn’t a weaknesswhy so many entrepreneurs avoid asking for supportand how finding the right “training partner” in business can completely change your consistencyPlus, a simple challenge to help you stop waiting and start reaching out.Connect with Julie: https://www.linkedin.com/in/julielawrie/ 🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce_📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]

TREAD TALKS: The “Buckets of Three” Rule That Simplifies Your Priorities
You don’t need to do less. You just need to do less at the same time.If your brain feels like 47 tabs open… this one’s for you.In this episode, I’m sharing a simple prioritization strategy that can completely change how you approach your work: the “buckets of three.”Inspired by my conversation with Dr. Michael Bevis, this concept is all about narrowing your focus so you can actually build momentum—instead of constantly starting and stopping.Because when everything is important… nothing gets done well.In this episode:Why entrepreneurs struggle with focusHow too many ideas slow you downA simple framework for better time managementHow to create momentum in your businessYour One Tip: Choose your top 3 priorities for the week. From Setbacks to Clients like Amazon & Hilton: The Part of Entrepreneurship No One Talks About
What does it really look like to rebuild a business after early failure — and then grow it into something completely different than you originally imagined? In this episode, I’m talking with Lindsay Scherr Burgess, founder of Green Wallscapes, a company creating preserved moss walls and plant installations for commercial and residential spaces across the U.S., Canada, and beyond.Lindsay’s path is anything but linear. She’s worked in commercial real estate, construction, organic produce, and sales before a small side project with moss slowly turned into a full-scale business serving clients like Amazon, Hilton, Marriott, and Johnson & Johnson. But what stood out most in this conversation isn’t just what she built — it’s how she built it, and what it’s required of her along the way.We talk about:When a side project becomes something you can’t ignore anymoreWhat actually changes when you move from “creative idea” to real operationsWhy scaling often reveals parts of your business you don’t want to own foreverThe tension between staying in your zone of genius and becoming the operatorHow I think about choosing coaches based on real business needs (not noise or hype)What it really means to carry responsibility for a growing teamThis is a grounded conversation about what growth actually demands — not just in revenue or reach, but in clarity, decision-making, and the parts of the business you’re willing (or not willing) to own.Connect With Lindsay:🌐 Website: www.GreenWallscapes.com📸 Instagram: www.instagram.com/greenwallscapesYouTube: www.youtube.com/@greenwallscapes/aboutLinkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/lindsayscherrburgess🔗 Stay ConnectedIf this episode resonated and you want more conversations about business, leadership, movement, and sustainable success, you can find me here:🌐 Website: https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce_✉️ Email: [email protected]📝 Substack: https://leslieboyce.substack.comI share weekly insights, behind-the-scenes reflections, and resources for business owners who want to grow without burning out.

Not because you don’t care—but because you’re relying on willpower instead of structure. In this Tread Talk, I share a key takeaway from my conversation with Shari Cedar on using your calendar as your source of truth—not just for meetings, but for how your time actually gets used.Because time management isn’t about productivity. It’s about ownership.Your One Tip:Pick one priority for tomorrow and schedule it with a start time—treat it like a meeting you can’t miss.🔹 New TREAD TALKS drop Mondays & Thursdays🔹 Full-length interviews every Tuesday🌐 https://www.leslieboyce.com📸 https://www.instagram.com/leslieboyce_📧 https://leslieboyce.substack.com✍️ [email protected]
