Choose to Live, Love & Grow
by Matt Findora
Hey, I'm Matt Findora and back in 2010, when I was a senior in high school, my life changed forever. One opportunity highlighted a victim mindset that was instilled in me by my parents. So I joined the Marines for 10 1/2 years. I've always wanted to help young men be their best self, so I became a Mindset Coach for young men. This podcast is a platform to help them do just that. Each episode provides tools and resources to help individuals improve their lives across the dimensions of mind, body, heart, and spirit. With new episodes released every Monday, I cover critical topics such as men's mental health and mindset shifts, aiming to inspire listeners to become the best versions of themselves. This platform allows me to share my passion for self-development and youth empowerment.

The Storm That Built The Forge-Ep 56
After almost a year of silence — the podcast is back. The last episode went out in July of last year. And then I went quiet. Not because I ran out of things to say. Because life asked me to stop talking and start surviving. This episode is the full story. I'm not going to dress it up or give you the polished version. I'm going to tell you what happened, what it cost, and what it built — because I think you need to hear it. In this episode: I talk about leaving the Marines in 2021 and the identity crisis that followed — 10 months separated from my family, navigating the uncertainty of a complete life transition largely alone. I talk about how I rebuilt my identity around being a husband and father, and how that became my purpose and my drive. And then I talk about July of last year. When my wife asked for a divorce. How I kept it to myself at first, convinced it was a bump in the road. How things got so dark that I started having conversations in my head I'm not proud of — and what I did to make sure I stayed here. What saved me was my village. A few people I could text at any hour. Coffee meetups. Walks when I needed to keep moving. I didn't have The Forge then. I had a few good people. And that was barely enough. I also walk through what that season actually built — using four principles from the FINDORA framework: Foundations — examining what my life was actually built on, not what I thought it was built on. A lot of it wasn't solid. The storm showed me that. Identity — losing two identities in four years forced me to ask who I was underneath the roles. Who are we without the titles, the accolades, the achievements? Ownership — a question from one of my brothers changed everything for me: "Are you making this decision out of love or fear?" That question clarified more than months of reflection. Action — I left my 15-year career as an air traffic controller. I went all in on my business. I built The Forge. I'm recording this podcast. All of it came from deciding to stop surviving and start building. The storm didn't destroy me. It clarified me. This is May — Mental Health Awareness Month. I brought this show back now specifically because men's mental health isn't just about crisis. It's about the everyday weight most men carry quietly. That's what this show is going to be about. Real resilience. No fluff. New episodes every Tuesday. How to Overcome Loss of Identity with Garret Biss-Ep 44
Have you ever experienced a transition in your life, that took a piece of your identity away? That is an unfortunate thing that a lot of veterans go through. This transition is a main speaking point between Garret Biss and myself, as we both experienced that rough transition. Garret Biss is a retired Marine Corps Pilot, addiction recovery coach, and TEDx Speaker. Post-retirement in 2015, Garret confronted challenges common among veterans: anxiety, depression, and a sense of displacement. Turning to alcohol as a crutch, it wasn't until suicidal ideation took hold that he sought change. Rather than traditional addiction treatments, Garret's path was shaped by mentoring that emphasized self-worth, rediscovering identity, and tapping into inherent strengths. This approach not only alleviated his addictive behaviors but also reignited his passion for life. Garret's transformative experience sparked his commitment to assisting others with recovery tools grounded in positivity and personal strengths. He often remarks that while numerous resources aid individuals in emerging from their darkest moments, he aspires to propel them even further – toward their highest potential. In 2017, he co-founded an addiction recovery residence in North Carolina, serving as an interim program director, executive director, and former board president, Garret has provided critical leadership for the past six years. Additionally, Garret crafted a recovery program and curriculum deeply rooted in positive psychology and the principles of human flourishing. Shifting his attention exclusively to veterans resonates deeply with Garret. Acutely aware of the hurdles they face, he is driven to ensure that their potential isn't overshadowed by emotional turmoil or addiction. Developed by Garret, ValiantPath™️, is tailored specifically for veterans, blending group coaching, one-on-one emotional processing, and evidence-based recovery methods. A graduate of the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland and holding a master's from the Harbert Business School at Auburn University, Garret's spirit of service soars beyond recovery. He's a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol and helms a global water non-profit, One Million Goal, Inc. As an award-winning author, co-founder of a recovery residence, and a captivating speaker, Garret consistently leaves audiences inspired, bolstered in self-worth and imbued with a newfound sense of purpose. He has raised championship pumpkins in his back yard, and he flies the largest kites on the beach. His children, tired of holding the strings, bought him an anchor for Christmas to hold the kites down. He has seven children and twelve grandchildren with one on the way. ABOUT THIS SHOW
Hey, I'm Matt Findora and back in 2010, when I was a senior in high school, my life changed forever.
