Fatherly Grit / Selling our kidneys for the day care
In today's episode, we naturally discuss the status of the 75Hard Challenge and note that its conclusion is gradually nearing. As always, we delve into our daily lives, focusing today on the staggering costs of childcare and debating whether it's more sensible to continue working or to simply stay at home. Additionally, we finally explore the concepts of fixed and growth mindsets, discussing their application in daily life and in parenting. To conclude, we pose the question: What exactly is the role of a parent? Thank you Podcastle.AI for supporting this episode. Record audio. And video. Fatherly Grit / Can you still make friends?
In this episode, Mars and Julius talk as usual about the status of their 75Hard Challenge, but also about the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to make or maintain new friendships as you get older with a family. For men in particular, the question is always whether they are my drinking buddies or people with whom I have more in common. There is talk about listener feedback regarding the mom mob and how to remain stable when it comes to raising your children, despite the many outside influences. Day 43-75 - I did it and now what?
Welcome to the final and concluding episode of this year's 75 Hard Challenge. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue sharing my journey with you as I had to make a strategic decision and my job and family were more important to me, so I ended the series early. I'm unhappy about it and have thought about it several times a day for the last 30 days, but you have to realize when you can't do it. But what have I achieved? - I've read 937 pages of 5 different non-fiction books, - I took 1,191,023 steps, - I rowed 570,000m with the Waterrower, - cycled almost 600km plus my daily rides with the kids, - did yoga dozens of times inside and outside, - drank over 285 liters of water, and - took 75 super weird pictures. And I have learned a lot about myself. For anyone thinking about taking on this or a similar challenge, do it! I am very sure that it will not hurt you and I am very sure that you will learn a lot about yourself from this experience. This has also shown that you can do a challenge like this, with children, with a lot of work and any old burdens that you are carrying around with you. It is very helpful to organize your day more efficiently and to jump over your own shadow in many moments. In any case, I've decided to continue, albeit in a slightly lighter version over the holidays, and then I'll start again in January because I want to try to complete the entire program in 2024. See you then!

Day 42 of 75 Hard - I almost peed myself, again
Welcome to the 42nd episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. Some people also don't learn to just go to the bathroom before they start, because then the same stress wouldn't happen to you two days in a row. Chasing over some country roads with an empty tank and a full bladder to find a gas station to fill the tank and empty the bladder. Listen in to find out if I was able to complete all of 75 Hard's tasks despite this late night excursion.

Day 41 of 75 Hard - Almost peed myself
Welcome to the 41st episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. It's always weird when you have to clean up the house before the cleaning lady comes, but otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to work properly today. In addition, I was on a mission tonight and almost wet my pants while I was desperately looking for a gas station so that I wouldn't break down with the car because of an empty tank. Listen in to find out if I was able to complete all of 75 Hard's tasks despite this late-night excursion.

Day 40 of 75 Hard - Recreational Activities Overload
Welcome to the 40th episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. Besides the actual stuff I have to do, I have a packed afternoon with skate park, library, and then kids gymnastics. Basically, you can't pack more onto the agenda to keep the kids active. But that's what the everyday life of a part-time dad looks like. Tune in to see if I was able to complete my tasks around 75 Hard despite all the issues.

Day 39 of 75 Hard - Puddle of Mudd
Welcome to the thirty-ninth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. What's the biggest mistake you make when picking up your kids from daycare in the afternoon? Do not let them fall asleep in any case, because this means in consequence that the going to bed routine is extended by 250%, because even 10min sleep in the afternoon means 60min longer going to bed in the evening and definitely a bad mood the following day, because of too little sleep! Even after almost 9 years of raising children, this cardinal mistake happens to me at regular intervals. Listen in to see if despite losing time, but gaining quality time with my kids, I was able to stick to my plan of completing the tasks of 75 Hard.
-
39
Day 38 of 75 Hard: I´m lame on foot today
Welcome to the thirty-eighth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. As mentioned several times I have cartilage damage in my ankle which means I should not be running and jumping. Today was another day where I didn't get going in the morning because I couldn't even get up the stairs properly. It's really annoying, but by now I've found some ways to deal with it. Tune in to see if I was able to get all the tasks done today even with a limp.
-
38
Day 37 of 75 Hard: The best Trader in the World
Welcome to the thirty-seventh episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. I spent half the day today selling coffee and cake at my son's kindergarten flea market. A welcome change and a chance to catch up with people and maybe mess with them a little, but in the end, it was for a good cause and we made good money. Meant, however, that for two-thirds of the day, I could not take care of my challenge. Tune in to witness once again if I got all the stuff sorted out or if it blew up in my face.
-
37
Day 36 of 75 Hard: Prepping for a Party
Welcome to the thirty-sixth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. Today had a lot on the docket, podcast recording, shopping, cooking, field hockey and a short nap. But it's always good to get all your topics under one hat, maybe I'll finally get my time management under control. Tune in to hear how I managed to keep all the balls in the air once again.
-

Day 35 of 75 Hard: Just a normal day!
Welcome to the thirty-fifth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. We finally have our normal everyday life, no one sick, no unique plans, just a family trying to dance at different weddings. Tune in to hear if, despite all the dancing, I'm not forgetting the actual tasks of the 75 Hard Challenge.
-
35
Day 34 of 75 Hard Challenge: Call me Procrastinator
Welcome to the thirty-fourth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. I talk about the issue of procrastination and how I struggle with it. It's really annoying that I'm constantly putting things off and thus always riding myself into time-related problems. Funnily enough, it's never the case in relation to professional projects, but actually always when it comes to personal issues. Listen in to see if I also put off my 75 Challenge tasks.

Day 33 of 75 Hard: We´re stuck on a tree
Welcome to the thirty-third episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. We went to the climbing forest again and this time we overdid it a bit. We were stuck at 17m for over half an hour and it took us quite a while to figure out how to get back down, but in the end we three guys pulled ourselves together and found a safe way down. Tune in to find out if I was able to complete all the other tasks after this exciting experience.
-
33
Day 32 of 75 Hard: Trying to get ahold of my anger
Welcome to the thirty-second episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. Today is a bridge day, as tomorrow is German Unity Day. One son had school and the other was off, so we had to organize a little at home, otherwise we had no program and just recovered from our short trip. I discuss briefly in this episode my thoughts on my impatience and how I'm trying to get a little bit of a handle on it with 75 Hard. Tune in to hear if I was still able to get my tasks done today despite not having a program.
-
32
Day 31 of 75 Hard: Like a fish in a pond
Welcome to the thirty-first episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. Today we went to the swimming pool with the whole family because it was raining like cats and dogs. It's really absurd, my wife had forgotten her swimsuit, but we were able to buy her one without any problems and when we all changed, I realized that my swimsuit was not there either, so I ran through the rain for 30 minutes to find and buy a swimsuit. In the end, I was successful, but it's always des ourselves with us! Tune in to hear if I could get my stuff done despite the swim trunks scavenger hunt! Don't forget to subscribe and rate!

Day 30 of 75 Hard: Call us the Armstrongs
Welcome to the thirtieth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. My wife's advanced training is finally over, so we can spend today together. Despite the wind, it is super nice weather, so we first explore the island on foot for some time and then get on the bike to see more. The kids got to bed early, so we could spend a relaxing movie night on the sofa, which we had not had in a long time. Tune in to hear if I could get my stuff done despite all the programming! Don't forget to subscribe and rate!!!

Day 29 of 75 Hard: I'm a scary dude!
Welcome to the twenty-ninth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. Once again I rode the gravel bike in the deepest black night and it was incredibly fun. I even met people and scared them to death. With a lot of tailwinds, I even broke my speed record, not the smartest action in the conditions, but it is what it is. Today was again a lot of family time, but it was super deep and relaxed. Tune in and find out if I have mastered the task evening the 75 Hard Challenge well, or then the fatigue has caught up with me.

Welcome to the twenty-eighth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. It's still super windy, but totally mild, which gave us the opportunity to spend a little time on the beach. Since my mother-in-law was still there, I took the chance and completed both training sessions alone and my wife and I could again make the restaurant scene unsafe. Sylt is a very beautiful island, but there are a lot of nouveau riche and those who would like to be on the road, which makes some of the stops a little exhausting. Tune in to find out if I was able to complete all the tasks of the 75 Hard Challenge despite the relaxing vacation situation.

Day 27 of 75 Hard - I drove a car, train and bicycle today
Welcome to the twenty-seventh episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. I don't know when I last slept so little, and then I drove on the highway for three hours straight afterward. Today is the first day of our short vacation and so far it's going okay despite the lack of sleep. Sylt is really great for cycling and I'm really looking forward in the coming days to tear off as many kilometers as possible with the family and without. Tune in to see if I could tick off my tasks despite the travel!

Day 26 of 75 Hard - My child is spoiled
Welcome to the twenty-sixth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. What can I say, apparently I've spoiled my kids' culinary so much by now that they are not willing to eat the same lunch twice in a row. I'll put it this way: as a father, I seem to have done everything right! We go away tomorrow for a few days and unfortunately, my son got sick today, which means my entire planning was, by a very long doctor's visit, once again jumbled, but even from this you can draw something positive. Tune in to hear if I still got all the tasks done and how my day went despite a sick child.

Day 25 of 75 Hard - It's pumpkin season!
Welcome to the twenty-fifth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. I finally finished Self-Discipline: How To Build Mental Toughness And Focus To Achieve Your Goals by John Winters, it was okay, yet the focus was too much on martial arts for me. Finally, pumpkin season is upon us again and I can get on my whole family's nerves with various pumpkin dishes. Despite the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I've actually been able to juggle my tasks quite well. I can only recommend again that audiobooks while running are a real gain and you can kill two birds with one stone. Subscribe to this channel and give the podcast a good rating; the audience is growing, so I would be happy about it.

Day 24 of 75 Hard - Last resort is the midnight run
Welcome to the twenty-fourth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. The latest workout so far in the whole 24 days, that's really super close. You can plan so much, but when life gets in the way, you just have to go through with it. Today I just have to see how I get the boys with friends, my grandmother, and the whole household under one hat without losing sight of my goal. It's really exciting how you can live into the day and then just shoot yourself in the foot because you've neglected your planning. Listen in to this episode to experience my struggle to celebrate one more success in the final meters.

Day 23 of 75 Hard - Get this win!
Welcome to the twenty-third episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. I went out early today because my son had a field hockey tournament. The earlier you start with the family program, the harder it is to accommodate the 75 Hard Challenge tasks. You have to keep yourself disciplined and balance the family with the challenge itself. But if you think about it at the start of the day, it shouldn't be an issue. Tune in and listen in to see if I could keep the balance today as well.

Day 22 of 75 Hard - I really want to ditch the habbit
Welcome to the twenty-second episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s Transformation Story. It's really wild when you have kids and so much on the docket besides the actual work, today we had a parent meeting coming up and then our older son's big school party. Lots of small talk, lots of new impressions, a bouncy castle, and then us as helicopter parents who have to see that we don't lose the kids in the hustle and bustle. It's really not that easy to reconcile the 75 Hard Challenge on a day like this. We'll also talk about aspartame addiction for a change today, it sucks! I have discarded many of my self-harming behaviors, but this I will not get rid of, but I have resolved that by the end of the 75 Hard Challenge, I will get rid of this crap! Tune in as I run the tasks side by side even on such an eventful day and listen to see if you can make it through the chaos.

Day 21 of 75 Hard - Keep it low key
Welcome to the twentyfirst episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad´s transformation story. I am still sick and really have to force myself to do the various challenges. It's really hard when you really have to try everything not to just give up because your body is on strike. The kids are also on the ropes a bit, so we're really more or less not getting off the couch today. Tune in to hear if I got everything done and no damage done despite still being sick.

Day 20 of 75 Hard - Back to school
Welcome to day twenty of the 75 Hard Challenge a Dad's Transformation Story. It's back to school today as there is a parent-teacher conference coming up at my son's school. I'm at a point right now where I just need to take a quick nap at noon because my sleep rhythm is getting me completely out of sync. I'm hoping that starting next week it will be a little more relaxed, but the way I'm assessing work I honestly need to work on my self-organization and focus even more when I have a chance to retire for a bit. Listen to this episode if you're interested to hear if I pulled my stuff off at 75 hard and how my cold is coming along.

Day 19 of 75 Hard - Bike ride under the desk
Welcome to day nineteenth of the 75 Hard Challenge a Dad's Transformation Story. Today I rode my desk bike for the first time for 50 minutes and I have to say that it doesn't really feel like a workout. I'm moving and my heart rate is going up, but I think that this moving on the side helps me focus on my work, but it's kind of unsatisfying from a sports perspective, so I basically put in three workouts today. It's still a massive amount of work and putting the challenge behind me besides the kids is quite a mental effort, but it's a fate of my own choosing and I have to get through it. Tune in to find out if I could pull off the challenge despite all the work.

Day 18 of 75 Hard - Stay out of the chips bag
Welcome to day eighteenth of the 75 Hard Challenge a Dad's Transformation Story. Today was once again a very challenging day because there is so much to do this week that I have to work complete night shifts and lack the time to work due to appointments, but somehow it must go. I found it exciting how the perception changes when you meet with friends and still have to stick to your rules and how there are reactions, but now I have to get used to the next 55 days. Tune in to find out if I could pull off the challenge despite all the work.

Day 17 of 75 Hard - I had a field trip
Welcome to episode seventeenth of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. I finally managed to get on my gravel bike this week and tear off a few miles. It was a lot of fun because the weather was still very nice, then it drove us to the field hockey field because there were some games scheduled. It was a super relaxed Sunday and finally a day where everyone could switch off and just live in the day. Tune in and listen to how the rest of the tasks of 75 Hard turned out for me.

Day 16 of 75 Hard - A Day at the Beach
Welcome to the sixteenth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. Although we actually had no program today, the day was again unnecessarily stressful. We went out to the beach, but thanks to the massive traffic this took so much longer that we had to move our whole day's planning so far behind that I completely fell behind with my program, but at least we have once again met Marc&Daniel, that was really very nice. Please tune in to know how much the completely overturned daily schedule made me swim and how I managed to work through all the points anyway.

Day 15 with 75 Hard: Is the pot boiling over
Welcome to the fifteenth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. Today there is a barbecue party and accordingly, the day must be organized. Not only do several projects have to be completed, but the children also have daily points that have to be worked through. Besides, I give you an insight into my kitchen and tell you why I'm basically the only one who swings the wooden spoon in our household. Tune in to find out if I got all the barbecue preparations done or if we're sitting in front of burnt sausages. Feel free to share this podcast and tell others about my journey, maybe one or the other will feel inspired to join this mental toughness challenge.

Day 14 with 75 Hard: Call me the ankle twister
Welcome to the fourteenth episode the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. It's really like jinxed, for years I've been torturing myself with my inoperable ankle, and today it's really throwing a wrench in my plans. Skateboarding in my youth not only gave me one or another broken leg, no, now I can't even get up the stairs properly anymore, but that doesn't stop me, because there's always a way to turn a barrier into an opportunity. Tune in to find out if I managed to get up the stairs and if I was able to check all the boxes on the list today. Feel free to share this podcast and tell others about my journey, maybe one or the other will feel inspired to join this mental toughness challenge.

Day 13 with 75 Hard: Learn to give a F-Word
Welcome to the thirteenth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. Today we're going through the list quickly because today is the first episode of Julius Book Club! I just got to the end of my first book, and it's The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. It was a very good book and I've written out the ten points I took away: Choose Your F*cks Wisely: Instead of caring about everything, focus your attention and energy on what truly matters to you. Not everything deserves your emotional investment. Embrace Life's Inherent Challenges: Life is inherently difficult, and happiness comes not from avoiding problems but from solving them and growing as a person through the process. Accept Your Limitations: Acknowledge your flaws and limitations rather than striving for unattainable perfection. Self-awareness is key to personal growth. The Importance of Values: Define your core values and align your life with them. Living in accordance with your values brings a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Taking Responsibility: Take ownership of your life and the outcomes of your decisions. Blaming external factors for your problems only disempowers you. The Feedback Loop from Hell: Avoid the negative feedback loop where you feel bad about feeling bad. Emotions are natural, and it's okay to experience them without judgment. The Importance of Action: Action is the antidote to most problems. Instead of overthinking, take decisive steps towards your goals. The Subtlety of Not Giving a F*ck: The title doesn't suggest apathy; it encourages you to allocate your limited emotional energy to things that truly matter and let go of trivial concerns. Happiness is Not the Goal: Pursue a meaningful life, not just happiness. True contentment often comes from facing and overcoming life's challenges. Death and Legacy: Reflect on your mortality to gain perspective on what truly matters. What legacy do you want to leave behind, and how can you start working towards it now? Feel free to leave me a review or comment if you want me to keep doing this!

Day 12 with 75 Hard: I almost blew it
Welcome to the twelfth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. I almost had to start the challenge again because I wasn't in control of my self-organization today. Besides the whole story and why it was so tricky, I'll give some insight into how and what I do for a living, because I'm not only a stay-at-home dad, but also an office manager, podcaster, podcast producer, and business development/marketing consultant. I tell you how I dance these many weddings at the same time in today's episode, here as discussed my LinkedIn profile. Listen to the episode and see if I got the tasks done and for those of you who are new, feel free to leave a review and follow the podcast so you don't miss another episode.

Day 11 with 75 Hard: My Sobriety [Triggerwarning]
[Triggerwarning] This episode includes the topic of alcohol and its health consequences or dangers and the topic of addiction. Welcome to the eleventh episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. Today we tick off the list, although it was relatively hectic today and the challenge was not as easy as on some other days. Today, I'm dealing with my sobriety and why I decided to stop drinking alcohol. Basically, there is not much to write about it, because the story speaks for itself. Still, I would like to recommend this episode of Andrew Hubermann about alcohol and this book for all those who want to learn more about this topic, because it has already helped a lot of people including me.

Day 10 with 75 Hard - These are muddy waters
Welcome to the tenth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. I packed up my family at noon today and we went to Hamburg to participate in the Xletix Kids Event and we were successful! My oldest son and I did the big course and basically ran, crawled, dove, and swam the whole way. It was incredibly fun and showed me again how ambitious my son is when he sets his mind to something. My wife went through the small course with our younger son, it was impressive how a five-year-old takes on such a task. Otherwise, it is of course a challenge to master such a day without neglecting the other tasks and today was a first real test. Tune in to find out if I met the challenge or if 75 Hard broke me today.

Day 9 with 75 Hard - Is it track & field track or track & field field?
Welcome to the ninth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. Today is the first day of this season that I'm recording two episodes in one day, because I have an exciting day ahead of me tomorrow and I don't know if I can fit everything in. It's really unspeakably warm here at the time, so both workouts feel like they're being held in a sauna. In addition to the familiar tasks, today I once again dealt with IT issues and baked a good number of orange lemonade muffins, so all in all a very nice day. Tune in if you're interested to see if I left my water out today or if I fell asleep again while reading this morning. Feel free to leave me a review and maybe a follow, that would help me a lot!

Day 8 with 75 Hard - I'm slow today
Welcome to the eighth episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. I sound like I'm falling asleep sitting up today, but I have to be quiet so I don't wake up my wife. Today was another very uncoordinated day, which ended up making the tasks very difficult, but this also helps to realize that you need to plan your days better or think about how to integrate your necessary tasks into your day efficiently. But I learned today that I can efficiently edit audio and video while walking on a treadmill, so I think I'm going to get a treadmill for home as well so I can get some extra exercise not just in the office. And like every day, the question is how and if I did my tasks of 75 Hard, tune in to find out.

Day 7 with 75 Hard - Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk
Welcome to the seventh episode of the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad`Transformation Story. Today was another pretty packed day, I was at the office, able to work off many things on my list, and at the same time, I was able to spend some time with my son in the afternoon, which is always a nice balance. Today I will talk about why I decided to take on the 75 Hard Challenge and give an insight into my mindset, as people on the internet say today. Tune in and listen to me review my day for a few minutes and find out if I could check off all the boxes on my list again today. Feel free to leave me a review and follow the podcast never to miss another episode.

Day 6 with 75 Hard - No sleep till meltdown
Welcome to the sixth episode oth the 75 Hard Challenge: A Dad's Transformation Story. The second night in a row with less than five hours of sleep, I have to work on that, but better times are coming. Today I keep the core part short, so I can tell a little more about 75 Hard, soon I will also tell a little more about why I set myself this challenge. So if you want to hear more about 75 Hard and whether I just went for another walk and got out my rowing machine, tune in. For those of you who are new, it would be nice if you could leave me a review and maybe some feedback on what I could tell you about.

ABOUT THIS SHOW
In the first season, you were able to follow Julius as he struggled through the 75 Hard Challenge, sometimes more and sometimes less successfully, but in the end he completed the 75 Hard Challenge and learned a lot from it. Now it continues, because he has brought Marcel on board, the aim is to start 2024 just as successfully as 2023 ended. In this season, the two of them will face the task together and discuss life, work, family, love, and the challenge of keeping all the balls in the air weekly.
