Episode 73 - Monkeybone (2001) - "The Film That Made Furries of Us All"
This week on the pod, we celebrate Aarons birthday by journeying back to a simpler time, possibly to the very moment that signaled the end of an era as we know it: The weirdly horny 90’s comedy. Channel your inner darkness into something beautiful with us, as we journey Into the Bone-Zone… or “Down Town” as the movie calls it, with 2001’s “Monkeybone”. For a movie that flopped hard at the box office (So hard we actually remember the news being as young as we were in 2001), there’s actually a lot of really bold and inventive things here on display. Pulling from Influences like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and “Beetlejuice”, Monkeybone swings for the fences with it’s incredibly laborious combination of Live action, stop motion and practical effects on display. Though all that attention paid to the effects seems sorely lacking in the script department, with characters that feel underdeveloped and a plot that just sort of happens at you, and a struggle in balancing the dark/comedic tones in the film. Plus, Aaron reflects fondly on the last positive memory before the towers fell, reminiscing on a cast full of household names that seemed to all vanish after this movie, and just what exactly did this movie awaken in the two of us? Episode 72 - El Topo (1970) - "Nobody Wants to Go to The "Dead Kid Church"
This week on the pod, we continue our journey through the works of Alejandro Jordorowsky by braving the desert and experiencing death of self with 1970’s “El Topo”. What a trip man. Join us as we spend a bit more time learning about Jordorowsky himself and what brought him to create his special blend of mysticism, religion, philosophy and magic to film. Be warned, our special little guy takes a bit more of misogynistic turn this route as we dive into some of the controversy around the films rather left hook of a rape scene, and Jordorowsky’s earlier interviews about the film. But, between the heightened style at play, the flavor of a Western take on the hero’s journey, the more overt spiritual lean of the film, El Topo definitely serves up a more engaging and taboo watch with a bit more to chew on. Plus, The fun things that children love to do, the legend of cult cinema Ben Barenholtz; and honest question, just who is this podcast for? Episode 71 - Santa Sangre (1989) - "The Mime, The Magician and His Armless Mother"
This week on the pod, we’re kicking off something special for you all. Journey with us into he theater of the surreal and absurd as we begin what will be a trio of films by the director, surrealist, mystic and overall weird dude, Alejandro Jodorowsky as we watched his 1989 psychological horror film; Santa Sangre. Being this is our first foray into the works of Jordorowsky, we dip our toes in with what we felt was his more grounded and approachable film of the 3 to come; which makes sense being the only one of the 3 films that was only co-written by Jordorowky himself. Join us as we marvel at the many visual spectacles this films has to offer, from he circus performances, live theater sequences, to a literal funeral procession for an elephant, this film is anything but dull. It tickles the senses and dazzles the eye, albeit sometimes with too much success to remember what’s happening in the film. But hey, fun to look at is still what we’re here for! Plus, discussions on just why this movie garnered and NC-17 rating exactly, well deserved penis violence, and Pete and Aaron discuss the new trend for the summer! 3 guesses what it is. Episode 70 - Pink Flamingos (1972) - "The Divine Comedy"
This week on the podcast, we’re celebrating Pete’s birthday by treading into some uncharted Waters… John Waters that is as we watched the tentpole film of John Waters’ Trash Trilogy with 1972’s “Pink Flamingos”. Fam, this film’s got it all. Sex, rape, incest, human trafficking, cannibalism and that’s all within the first hour! It’s not that long of a film so it’s really the bulk of the film, but you get the idea. And boys and girls, don’t you skip that final scene, it’s a real treat! Join us as we wonder why it’s taken us to cover a John Waters film on this show, as his work is really the seed from which so many other things we love comes from! An independent filmmaker whose inspiration stems into all manner of art, film, queerness, and hey, even the likes of the Jackass fella’s look up to him. He’s your favorite artists, favorite Artist. But we’d be remiss if we spent all this time talking about Waters and not his putrescent muse, the queen of filth herself, Divine. For, without Divine, does Waters make such iconic trash cinema? What’s Van Gogh without the night sky, Springsteen without New Jersey, H.R. Geiger without the penis? Get ready for kink, kitsch, and oh yes… Kunt, on this. Episode 69 - High Tension (2003) - "A History of French Violence"
This week on the pod, pack your bags, hop in the car with your closest gal pal because were headed to a secluded house for the weekend to… Study? This week we watched the 2003 French Horror film High Tension! Join us as we finally take this opportunity to dive into the genre of New French Extremity Horror; a genre with some very familiar entries if you’ve been listening to the pod for while! While we meander down these halls of French cinema we also take a stroll down Pete’s own memory lane of how impressionable this film was on him as an up and coming horror fan in the 2000’s. And while High Tension may not be the gnarliest, the most offensive or that sort of “one and done” kind of film, it serves as an interesting turning point in the genre; one where French films influence American Films that then again influence French films. It’s all one big international conversation and the text reads blood, guts and chainsaws! Plus, we talk about the major continuity flaws of this film and it’s (Spoiler!!) twist, Aaron and Pete soft launch their new YouTube channel ideas, and finally, we tackle the real issues at hand, the ones dividing people across borders: Male Circumcision! Episode 68 - Twin Peaks: The Return-Part 8 (2017) - "For the Fireman So Loved the World, That He Gave His Only Daughter"
Follow us, through space and time as we journey our way out of the black lodge, through the void and make our return… to the town of Twin Peaks. This week on the pod we’re continuing our Twin Peaks coverage as we jump 25 years into the future and watch Twin Peaks - The Return, Episode 8. Where Fire Walk With Me tackles David Lynch in one of his more darker shades covering personal traumas and spilling a bit if the mystery, our episode today finds us in quite the opposite end of the Lynchian spectrum. In the Return, we find ourselves at the hand of a creator who’s making no compromises and holding nothing back. He doesn’t care if you’re following him, but your’e along for the ride whether you like it or not. And “Part 8” of the limited series serves as a sort of nexus of that journey. It’s part origin story of the show, part abstract art, part horror film, but all Lynch in his most unbridled iteration yet. Describing it does no justice, so honestly, go watch this one yourself. Episode 67 - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992) - "Are You Talking About That Little Girl That Got Murdered?"
This month, We’re running a two for one special down the Double R Diner… or is it Hap’s? We’re talking about seedy bars, cryptic log-based messages and dead homecoming queens as we’re saddling up in the town of Twin Peaks for all of February! On our first episode, we cover David Lynch’s first foray off the leash with the 1992 Film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me”. This one’s a near and dear property to the pod, so join us as we gush a bit over the show and yes, David Lynch himself as we marvel at what a waking nightmare this film is. Don’t worry, we’ll give you the run-up you need on the show to understand what the hell is even happening in this movie. Though if you are a fan of Twin Peaks, you may have your own qualms with the film, whether it be it’s aggressively dark tone, focus on sexual trauma, or completely ruining the mystery of the original show. But if you’re willing to look past that, what lies in these secret pages of Laura Palmer’s Diary lies somewhere between the familiar and Lynch’s most confronting film. Truly, there’s no amount of explaining this to you that’ll make a bit of sense, but why not listen and find out just what we love so much about the movie on this weeks episode of “I Didn’t Need to See That!” Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod

Episode 66 - Tokyo Gore Police (2008) - "Tokyo Goon Police"
This week on the pod, we’re keeping things light with all manner of monsters, wizards, facists and fetishists as we mainline the 2008 horror/comedy “Tokyo Gore Police” right into our brains. Strap it, because this film is a genuine hoot. From an over saturation of violence, to some genuine freaky kinks on display, Tokyo Gore Police is a film that doesn’t make a lick of sense and that’ just alright with us! We talk about this films love for practical effects; no surprise being the feature debut of Tokyo’s FX wizard, director Yoshihiro Nishimura, and how it frolics in its own depravity. We also can’t help but note the steadied hand by actor Eihi Shiina who brings a genuine intensity to an otherwise fever dream of a movie. This movie is insane, and you will be too! Plus, satires on fascsim, a lengthy discussion on Gooning, and two men try to solve the great debate once and for all; Is. Squirt. Pee? Episode 65 - The Piano Teacher (2001) - "Where Repression Meets Rage"
Happy New years you fucking assholes. Brace yourselves because we’re kicking off the year with some deadly serious mommy issues in 2001’s “The Piano Teacher”. Join us as we we run the gamut of conversations on the film from the origins of true degenerate behavior, conflating kink with love, and when it comes to consensual non-consent play, you really don’t need someone who goes off-script. We try to get at the heart of a true white whale in the female incel and ask ourselves the broader question of what does in-fact qualify someone “involuntarily celibate”. Episode 64 - Showgirls (1995) - "Straight Pornography for Gay Men"
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to our final episode of the year; our Vegas Revue! This week on the pod we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of one of the all-time cult, sleaze classics in Paul Veerhovens’ “Showgirls”. A film so equally bad and incredible, it defies conventional critique; though that didn’t stop scores of audiences upon its release from doing just that. Join us as we talk about the films abysmal initial release and the ensuing damages it left in its wake, specifically to that of star Elizabeth Berkley’s career. But honestly, we chalk it up to a generation that just wasn’t ready for the camp gold that this film is, and a major misstep on the marketing department with how they sold the film. Plus, aggressive gesturing, so much sex it’s actually a turn off, and one incredibly out of left field sexual assault that really didn’t need to be here! Prepare to be equal parts entertained and horrified, because that’s what we do best here on “I Didn’t Need to See That!” Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod

Episode 63 - Downfall (2004) - "Hitler was a Messy Bitch"
On this weeks episode, we’re back in the trenches of war; literally. Only this time these trenches are more like a bunker full of Nazis! Yes, we’re strapped in to watch the final days of Nazi Germany as it all comes crashing down on their stupid heads in the 2004 film “Downfall”. Join us as we talk about what a messy queen that Hitler was as we breakdown one of the most nuanced performances of histories greatest monster that we’ve ever seen. While moments of this film work to test the viewers sense of empathy; evoking moments of clarity akin to members of Jonestown in the final days on the compound in Guyana, it never fails to carry the salient reminder that “Yes, they are Nazi’s and yes, they deserve this.” Also discussed, the messiness of humanizing the monster, Fascism as a fashion statement first and foremost, and how DO you say “Goebbels?” ? Episode 62 - All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) - "Hell is Trench Warfare"
This week on the podcast, Hell is trench warfare. We’re settling in proper to the new Dad-cast format (for now at least) as we embrace our inner history buffs while still being gluttons for punishment. We watched the 2022 WW1 Epic “All Quiet on the Western Front”. Listen as we discuss the truly inspiring origins of this adaptation and learn just how much work it is to keep an option on a script (we learned something today too!). Oh and don’t worry, we’ll give you some of the cliff notes of the real world context as best we can in an hour podcast episode about a film. Differences between the original text and this film aside, the film looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous and gets way more graphic than an Oscar picture has any right to be. Also discussed on todays episode, the epidemic of missing editors on films in the streaming age, the battle between selfcare and sleep, and the question everyones begging to know the answer to.. Do you like to read while stoned? All this and more on this weeks episode of “I Didn’t Need to See That!”Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod

Episode 61 - The Ugly Stepsister (2025) - "Nothing Tastes as Good as Ingesting a Tapeworm Feels"
Get ready to suck in that muffin top, shed a few pounds and put on your best dress because we’re going to the ball, Cinderella! This week on the pod we watched a body horror delight from this year in “The Ugly Stepsister”. Join us as we discussed the nuanced nature of this messy lead character who only kind of deserves what she’s got coming to her. But let’s be real, in this fantastic depiction of 1800’s Norway (and in any time period really), being a woman is about survival of the fittest; or in this case, the thinnest. From the gruesome depiction of the primitive forms of body modification, to the suffocating societal norms our lead is subjected to, we watch as our leading lady goes to “great lengths” to make herself beautiful as we wince and squirm the whole way. Also discussed on today’s episode, snap decisions while stuck in traffic, parenting tips for Halloween, and do Tapeworms really love milk? Episode 60 - Dead Alive! (1992) - "Good Disgusting Fun"
This week on the pod we’re heading down under (Kinda) for a continued discussion on Video Nasties (But, not really) as we watched a classic in both New Zealand film and splatter horror in Peter Jacksons (yes, THAT one) 1992 Horror Comedy, Dead Alive! Join us as we turn our brains off for a putrid good time. It’s a movie that you can see, smell, hear and taste from beginning to end, and you’ll surely want a second helping of this slop! Join us as we laud this as a great pick to put on at a party with your friends, if your friends like dismembered corpses that is. We speculate whether or not this is cannon with Jackson’s remake of King Kong and note more than just one allusion to inspiration from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”. Also discussed, the slapstick “Muppet-ness” of the New Zealand sense of humor, timeless practical effects, and CAN you show hog on instagram? Episode 59 - Faces of Death (1978) - "Gods Blooper Reel"
I Didn’t Need To See That: Return of the Dadcast! After a month hiatus while Pete ascends to fatherhood, we’ve replenished our tanks, recharged our batteries and are ready to subject our pure, clean bodies back into the swamp. This month on the pod, we’re dusting off an old chestnut by billing a double header and finally delving into the topic of Video Nasties! What the hell is a video nasty? Exactly what it sounds like. We’re busting open this bag of guts with the movie so controversial it was banned in 46 countries, 1978’s “Faces of Death”. Join us as we ask ourselves, “where does faces of death fit into a modern world?”. Is it rendered obsolete by the onslaught of dead bodies we can see on the internet, or does it serve as a macabre predecessor of something kids of a certain generation have become all too desensitized towards. Also discussed on today’s episode; horny spam texts, how to survive in a scam economy, and the joys of fatherhood. Episode 58 - Kids (1995) - "Summer Lovin', Got Me Some AIDS"
Youth is wasted on the young, especially when the youth is too wasted to remember what the hell happened. This week on the pod, we’re closing out Bummer Summer with the granddaddy of cautionary tales to the restless youth of America with Larry Clark’s 1995 film “Kids”. Join us as we revel in the horror of what it’s like to experience this film through the lens of adults and reminisce on our own teenage fuckery. We’ll cover the very messy and questionable production history of this film and how the final product feels at once a true authentic representation of teens in America, and outright exploitation of those same teens. It’s a mixed bag to say the least. Also discussed in today’s episode; Just how much sex are teens actually having, separating the nostalgia from the child pornography, and is there really any ethical way to depict teens as they truly are? Also, Kids; wear a damn condom! All this and more on this week’s episode of “I Didn’t Need to See That!” Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod

Episode 57 - Requiem For A Dream (2000) - "Heroin Rules Everything Around Me"
This week, bring the tissues and some Narcan because we’re about to overdose on sadness. This week we’re watching everyone’s favorite anti-drug PSA via way of Darren Aronofsky with his 2000 dram “Requiem for a Dream”. Join as Pete dives down memory lane with his first encounter with a movie that was so bleak it made him want to take a shower, and Aaron comes at this without the fondness of 2000’s filmmaking style. While we may not be able to agree on whether or not the film still works for a modern audience, we can absolutely agree on a few things. The score absolutely holds up, Marlon Wayans is way too ripped to play a drug addict, and there’s no such thing as a fun heroin movie. It also goes without saying that no matter what our feelings on this movie are, this is a film whose imprint can be felt on cinema even to this day. Plus, Spoilers for the new film “Eddington”, learn that James Gunn gives a shit about us, and sometimes people need to be in a psyche ward. Get ready because this one’s a sad one! Episode 56 - Stroszek (1977) - "Vintage Midwestern Sprawl"
This week on the pod, we’re heading overseas to bleak, cold world of Berlin in the 1970’s; but only for a moment before we break free to the sunny shores of… Wisconsin! Yes we’re continuing our mini-theme on breaking the facade of the American dream, only this time through the eyes of an immigrant seeking better opportunities and cheaper beer in the 1977 film; Stroszek. On today’s episode, we talk briefly about how Stroszek, and last week’s film “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” are in conversation with one another; and while in this film the American dream isn’t literally breaking your body, it sure is going to break your spirit. Try as our beloved, drunken main character might; once you’ve got a single knock against you in this life, it’s nearly impossible to get yourself back up. Also discussed today, our first time coverage of a Werner Herzog film, the endless mirroring of our main character as a prototype of Charlie Kelly, and good ol’ vintage, midwestern sprawl. Episode 55 - They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) - "Ain't That The American Way"
Yowza, Yowza, Yowza! Welcome back to another great episode of I Didn’t Need To See that, and boy do we got a show for you. Join us as we celebrate one of the finest era’s in American History, an era so foundational, so inspiring, so truly American we couldn’t help but put “Great” Right in it’s name as we journey back to the Great Depression with 1969’s “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” That’s right, saddle up as we run these patriots like the dogs they are. On this episode we break down the true, existential timelessness of the message of this film. In a world where hope is a sham and opportunity is just a word we use to exploit the poor for the entertainment of the rich, there’s only one solution… to DANCE! Also on today’s episode, the tragedy of Gig Young, we find out that American existentialist literature isn’t actually so popular in America, and witness the return… of Dobbytoks! Episode 54 - Happiness (1998) - "Happiness is a Warm C*m"
This week on the pod, The pursuit of happiness is all full of crooks, perverts and pedophiles as we continue our seasonal slog of Bummer Summer with a very special film about family. We learn just how dark a comedy can get as we watched Todd Solondz’s 1998 “semenal” film, “Happiness”. Join us as we foray into the first Todd Solondz film for the podcast and contextualize just what makes this director a perfect contender for the podcast. One of the strongest attributes of the film is just how un-PC it is, yet how Solondz navigates the tone so deftly as to give us reprehensible yeet very human characters. After all, aren’t we all just a bunch of perverted little weirdos ourselves behind closed doors? Also discussed on the pod, Bad Dads, MILF Summer, and an ending that’ll blow your socks off (get it?). Though the everyday horrors persist, we (somehow) continue doing this depressing bit for the podcast! It’s Summertime here on the I Didn’t Need To See that Podcast, and this year, we’re treating you with a series of films for those of you that recognize summer for what it is; abysmal heat, the smell of garbage in the air, and that pressure to go outside just because the anxiety in your brain is telling you you’re a lazy piece of shit if you don’t. That’s right baby, for the next few weeks on the podcast, it’s going to be a “Bummer Summer”! We’re dedicating this summer season to the cinema of despair, the melange of malaise, the season of sorrow. And kicking things off, we’re revisiting one of our favorite fun time guys with Lars Von Trier’s 2011 film “Melancholia”. Join us as we bask in the the wondrous performance from Kirsten Dunst as she gives us one of the best depictions of depression committed to cinema; and yes, we’ll talk about THAT press junket at the premiere. On this episode we watched the laugh-a-minute riot that is 1992’s “Man Bites Dog”. Join us as we talk about what we consider one of the best, least talked about villains in film; or at least the most captivating. We also marvel at how this project that seemingly started with no agenda other than 4 friends wanting to make a low budget filmed turned into one of the greatest commentary’s on media violence. Episode 51 - Boogie Nights (1997) - "Video Killed the Porn Star"
Spring is here and we’ve got us another birthday on our hands here on the IDNTST Pod. This week we’re celebrating Aarons birthday with trip back to a simpler time, one of fast cars, loose women and as much cocaine as you can inhale! This week we watched 1997’s ode to the golden age of adult film making; Boogie Nights! Admittedly, this film is a bit of a break in format, but hey a man kills himself at a party and another goes to jail for child pornography, so as far as we’re concerned this is still on brand for us! Join us as we bask in the love of filmmaking that this movie really showcases, and how even though it’s about the death of Porn stars into the 80’s, there’s also some modern comparisons to the changes in film consumption into the 90’s. Also discussed, All time bitch mother rants, how much did porn stars actually make in their heyday, and after all is said and done, was the real villain behind the rubber mask just Reaganism? this and more on this weeks episode of “I Didn’t Need to See That!” Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod

Episode 50 - Irréversible (2002) - "Gaspar No Way Am I Watching That Again"
Welcome everyone to a very special episode. This week marks the 50th episode of the podcast if you can believe it! We wanted to save something special for you all on this monumental achievement for us, and trust us we didn’t let you down. This week, keep the dramamine handy and if you have epilepsy or are triggered by any sort of sexual violence whatsoever, seriously don’t watch this film. We head into the bowels of hell as depicted by a gay night club in Gaspar Noe’s 2002 Rape Revenge-told-in-reverse film, “Irreversible”. Whether it’s the nauseating soundtrack, the frenetic camera work, or the infamous 9-minute rape scene, this movie is truly an assault in every way shape and form. Join us as we dive deep into the psychological toll a movie like this has on a viewer and the impact it has by almost leaving it’s audience not as mere spectators to violence, but complicit in it as well. Also discussed on the episode are the rampant bouts of homophobia from the films lead character, and just in the film itself, the beauty that is Monica Belluci, and whose films are you recommending to your parents next, Gaspar Noe or Lars Von Trier? Episode 49 - Rabid (1977) - "When I'm Dead, Throw Me In the Trash"
This week, we honestly needed a kind of buffer film between heavy hitters, so we decided to sojourn back to the serene 1970’s French Canadian countryside as we watch a woman infect a whole town with her armpit stinger! We’re covering one of David Cronenberg’s early films with the 1977 body horror feature “Rabid”. Join us as we talk about the early days of Canadian Treasure Cronenberg himself and feel a fond sense of nostalgia for a decade neither of us were alive to see. Plus, the disgusting eating habits of teens, Can Adult Film Actresses transition to mainstream film roles these days? Spoiler Warning for later episodes of White Lotus! And we attempt to settle the long standing debate of Is “Twink” A slur? On this week’s episode, spring isn’t the only thing that’s awakening. We’re celebrating Pete’s Birthday! And for the birthday boys pick, we’ve dived into the world of flesh consumed by metal with 1989’s “Tetsuo The Iron Man”. Join us as we step back into the wondrous world of independent filmmaking and marvel at just how visually stunning this movie looks, and how miserable of a shoot it was. This is a film who’s influences are very present in it’s grungy, phallic, cyberpunk aesthetic, yet maintains an identity and vibe all it’s own. Also discussed are the films potential influence on the art of Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, how much is enough to ask your friend to come help out on your first film shoot, and how in the end, this is really story of queer love overcoming all obstacles. We sat down and watched the 2017 Chilean made, Rape-Revenge Horror film, “Trauma”. A special shout out, as this was a fan recommendation, we officially got more than we bargained for! This movie seems to really wear its influences on the surface, pulling from such French Extremity films like “Martyrs” and “Frontiers”; and most notably “A Serbian Film”. While the film is notably low budget and at times weak in story, it’s more than effective in its shock, thoroughly entertaining in its splash of action and some great practical effects.. that is if you can get past its need to make you vomit and recoil throughout the duration of the film. Get your bags ready because this was a real gross one! All this and more on this week’s episode of “I Didn’t Need To See That!” Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod

Also discussed in todays episodes are the films tired tropes of motherhood as the only arc for its female protagonist, the cliched Blue-Filter look of a late aughts film, and how while this movie makes a running, Dogtooth is still the best movie on parenting. Join us today as we discuss with the film with a history of making it that’s even more interesting than the film itself. (Answer: Yes), and the most important question of all, who is this film for!? All this and more on our 2024 season finale of I Didn’t Need To See That! Episode 41 - Raw (2016) - "Ohh, Baby I Like It Rawww"
CW: Violence, gore, depictions of cannibalism Come One Come all to the flesh eaters ball. This month we’re capping off our year of themes with a tried and true cultural taboo just in time for the holidays; It’s Christmas with the Cannibals ya’ll! This month we’re digging into 2 films that highlight the fascinating, grotesque, and even horny topic of Cannibalism; Kicking things off with the 2016 coming-of-age horror film, Raw. Join us as we revisit one of our favorite directors, Julia Ducournau (see our coverage of her film “Titane” on one of our earlier episodes) with her debut film that got everybody talking, and even a few people vomiting in their seats. We discuss how Raw serves as a sort of dry run for themes we’ll see Ducournau continue in her follow up film, and how some of the most visceral moments of grotesquerie in this film aren’t even the cannibalism! (But those get pretty gnarly too). Also discussed on today’s episode, Can women actually pee standing up? Is there a Bechdel test for gay men? And Does PETA actually care if you eat people? Episode 39 - Nymphomaniac Vol. 2 (2013) - "The Odyssey of Pain"
This week we head out of the sheets and into the streets as we close out our coverage on the Nymphomaniac saga with Nymphomaniac Volume 2. This week we flipped the script, as Aaron watched the Theatrical cut and Pete watched the Directors cut with a full 54 minutes of extra content including extra double penetration, and possibly the most graphic abortion ever depicted on film. We’re in full Odyssey territory here folks. But it’s not all bad! We talk in todays episode about how through all the needless pontification from the Seligman character, and all the physical and sexual abuse our character of Joe endures, there’s actually an incredibly strong case for this being highly feminist movie. Also discussed today are the rules of consent in the BDSM community, when NOT to tell your wife it’s ok to step out on their marriage, and how it really feels like Lars Von Trier just wrote every taboo he could think of and put into this film. Episode 38 - Nymphomaniac Vol 1. (2013) - "We are Now Entering 'The Hoe Era'"
We may be done with Satan, but we’re not quite done with Sinning. Join us for the month of November as we embark on the fluid-filled odyssey of sex that is Lars Von Trier’s 2013 film “Nymphomaniac”; a saga covered in 2 parts! Join us as we discuss this masterful film made by a truly insufferable human being. While at times we both think this script is trying to just come off as “look at how smart I am” by just saying pseudo-intellectual things without any sort of clear indication or thematic through line, we still find this to be one of Von Trier’s Best films. Strong performances by the two female leads, a brash and cold representation of sex; and a whole lot of it at that, give this film a bite that few other films have. Also discussed on the episode are how refreshing it is to see this depiction of sex in media, the politics of cheating, and how Shia LeBeouf really should be kept away from the general public. CW: Violence, Gore On this week’s episode, we’re blowing out the candle on this seance as we close out our super spooky double feature on Demonic Possession with a modern all-timer in 2018’s “Hereditary”. Keep an eye on that weird, sentient light, beware of naked old people and for the love of god, check the cake for nuts! Join in with us as we both revisit a film that we; for the first time in podcast history (apparently?!), agree is a certified banger of a film. From Toni Collette’s Oscar-worthy performance, Colin Stetson’s noteworthy score, and of course the man of the hour himself, first time writer-director Ari Aster and how he crafted a true horror masterpiece. Also discussed, the “A24 boom”, how we’d be mad too if mom tried to light us on fire, and honestly speaking, King of Hell doesn’t sound like all that bad of a title. CW: Brutal Violence, Gore, simulated sexual assault, the dog dies Welcome to October and Hail Satan, Ya’ll! This month, we’re being full on sluts for the dark lord as we celebrate the spookiest season of all with our double feature on the theme of Demonic Possession. We’re kicking these doors open wide with a full on gore-fest as we watched the 2013 Supernatural horror remake, “Evil Dead”. We locked ourselves in for a rollercoaster ride of viscera, limbs and a literal climax of raining blood. We also ponder, is this one of the best horror remakes of the 2010’s, or just another Tuesday at Glen Danzig’s home? Also discussed on todays episode are how stupid do we find the characters in this film, Spoilers for the 2024, Sydney Sweeney film, “Immaculate”, oh and also, the dog dies in this film. Episode 35 - Polytechnique (2009) - "Putting the 'Man' in 'Manifesto'"
This week on I Didn’t Need To See that, we close out our month of covering films on School Shootings (thank god) as we cover a lesser known tragedy and film (by American standards) and journey into the wild winters of Montreal, QC as we watched the 2009 film “Polytechnique”. Based on the harrowing true story of the 1989 École Polytechnique Engineering school massacre, tune in today as we grapple with the true horror of what unfolded on that fateful day, and how film still serves as a means of education and call to action in a world largely numb to the daily onslaught of tragedy in the news. On brighter notes in the episode, we marvel at the technical competence show by director Denis Villeneuve long before he was known as one of the great modern directors. Also, we again faun over the days of smoking indoors as depicted in films, talk about how incels aren’t just America’s problem, and you can’t spell Manifesto without “Man”. Episode 34 - Elephant (2003) - "Dylan and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!"
Settle in gang, because Fall is here. That means cozy sweaters, crisp leaves on the ground, pumpkin spice lattes. And sadly, in some cases, the smell of gun smoke in the classrooms, as this month we decided to cover two films that cover what is truly the great North American tragedy of School Shootings. This week we start with 2003’s “Elephant”. Written and directed by Gus Van Sant, this film (which ultimatley started as a documentary about the 1999 Columbine High School Massacre) works as a placid yet horrifying day-in-the life portrayal. We also applaud the erie sound design and comps to last year’s “Zone of Interest”, as well as the dedication to stoic reality in acting over heightened drama. Also discussed are the actual banality of tragic events like this, our mixed thoughts on the ending of the movie, and how when the world was in shambles on 9/11, Pete just wanted to watch SpongeBob and Nickelodeon held it down. Episode 33 - Crash (1996) - "Car-nal Desires"
CW: Graphic Sexual Content Welcome back you kinky freaks. On our second installment of our months “Auto-Erotica” theme, we test the limits of just how far will people go for that next great sexual thrill, even if means killing a few people along the way. Although, maybe that’s the point? We’re unclear. Anyway, we watched David Cronenberg’s 1996 erotic thriller “Crash”! Joining us on this weeks episode; returning guest to the Pod, verified Cronenberg first-timer, and Pete’s wife, Anna! Listen in to today’s episode as we detail, what we found to be a rather tame film given its scandalous reputation and infamous NC-17 rating. We lament over the shameful lack of male nudity in the film, as well as discussing the nature of consent within the kink community, all while somehow finding the time to officially declare a “Borat Summer”! ll this and more on this week’s episode of “I Didn’t Need To See That!” Follow us: Email: [email protected] Instagram: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod

CW: scenes depicting abortion, violence, self harm Welcome to August, as we dive into a month of films that we make you all very sexually confused the next time you get in your car, as this month we rev up for our “Auto-Erotica” Double feature. Kicking things off we watched 2021’s Psychological, Drama/Body Horror film “Titane”. Hailing from France, this film is a full on shock to your senses that it’s both visceral and tender in the same breath. We loved this movie, from its awesome soundtrack, memorable sequences (of which there are several), and nightmarish body horror elements, Titane is a ride you won’t soon forget. Oh, and did we mention the lead character has sex with a car? Listen in to find out how we make sense of that. All this and more on this week’s episode of “I Didn’t Need To See That!”

This movies got it all.. if all you wanted was really shitty Canada jokes and a man being turned into a walrus. Wait... actually? While this movie boasts some great performances from its lead actors, it has a hard time rising above its really dumb sense of humor and suffers from 1… very.. noticeable… pacing issue. We find out as we dive into 1989’s Body horror/Comedy film “Society”; kicking off our new theme for the month of July with “Body Horror”. Settle in for a fun 80’s romp that’s dripping with horniness and some sort of prosthetic lube it would seem. This movies real dumb at times, but also boasts some of the most memorable special effects of it’s decade; and gives us the use of not one, but two “Butthead”’s. In no affiliation with Pride whatsoever, we’re diving into the obsessive world of Stalkers for our theme this month. Kicking things off, we watched the 2015 Found Footage/Psychological Horror film “Be My Cat: A Film For Anne”. Content Warning: Discussions of Sexual Assault, Castration, Pedophilia Put a cold one on ice, and make sure you’ve prepared your own drink for this one. Closing out our month on Predators (Thank Jesus) we watched 2005’s psychological thriller “Hard Candy”. No notes here folks. Episode 26 - Lolita (1962) - "I'm Your Daddy, Now"
Content Warning: Child Sexual Abuse We’re kicking off a new month and new theme in possibly the most upsetting topic of discussion on our podcast thus far. Keep away from schools and don’t forget to call Chris Hansen, because this months double feature is on “Predators”. We start things off this month with a classic in cinema and literature, 1962’s Stanley Kubrick directed “Lolita”. Possibly one of the most controversial works of the 20th century, join us as we marvel at just how such a controversial work can be so damn funny. (Hint: It’s Peter Sellers). Additionally we talk about some of the differences between the book and movie, citing how the movie was toned down for audiences. Other topics of discussion being our feelings on this film in Stanley Kubricks greater filmography, just how big is a Terabyte, and our Love/Hate relationship with Tubi. Tune in as we discuss what a sleeper of good a movie this was. Having it’s release just before the world shut down in 2020, as well as being the directors debut feature film, it’s no surprise why this movie fell into obscurity, but that doesn’t make it any less of expertly shot and surprisingly hopeful film! Plus, Comps to 2020’s “Invisible Man” remake, how this film walks a very narrow emotional tightrope in its climax, and will Elon Musk ever make his money back on “X”!?.
