76 | Confusion To Answers With Neurodiverse Diagnosis: Libby Clark from Cassandra Uncaged

I chat with Libby Clark, from the Cassandra Uncaged Podcast about her marriage and family life before and after the diagnosis, the difference the diagnosis made and how she does self-care in her life. I hope her story encourages you. Let me introduce you our guest. Libby has an intimate walk with Jesus, and has been married to Steve for 41 years, and they have 7 children. The first 32 years were chaotic confusion, but following Steve’s diagnosis of Asperger’s (ASD1) 9 years ago, they have an amazing new trajectory in their relationship, and together they have learned insights that bring hope to neurodiversity. Addressing the individual over the institution, Libby brings hopeful insight into healing the heart. Wounded people wound, but healed people heal. 32 | Managing Autism & ADHD Meltdowns: Mom-Tested Tips For Before And After School

Changes in routines can be tough on our neurodiverse kids, and honestly, they can be tough on us as moms. I know how hard it is to squeeze in time for self-care during these transitions, but I’ve found using the tips can make heading back to school a little less stressful—both for our children and for ourselves.   Remember meltdowns often communicate feelings of sensory overload or overwhelm. When we find ways to reduce that sensory load, it can sometimes help ease the frequency or intensity of meltdowns.    Resources Mentioned: Ark Chewies Munchables Loop Ear Plugs Weighted blankets: I always recommend doing some research to choose the right weight for your child—consider whether it’ll be used for sleep or just as a lap blanket. Also, it’s a good idea to check with your child’s doctor if they have any health conditions (like asthma) that might make weighted blankets unsafe. I hope these tips and resources make the transition back to school a little smoother for you and your family.   Connect with me: Instagram or Facebook   If you are enjoying this episode and want more encouragement like this, make sure to join my email list.
