Vipassana Meditation, Discipline & Inner Work with Andrew Abaria

In this episode of Life On Earth, Nathalie reconnects with Andrew Abaria—actor, musician, and longtime yoga practitioner—for a conversation on meditation, discipline, and inner work. Together, they explore the depth of Vipassana meditation, the evolution of a yoga practice over time, and the shift from external performance to internal awareness. Andrew shares his experience attending multiple Vipassana retreats and offers insight into the structure, intensity, and transformative potential of this practice. This conversation is an invitation to slow down, observe, and cultivate equanimity—both on and off the mat. Key Topics The evolution of a yoga practice over time From vinyasa flow to slower, more intentional movement The structure and discipline of Vipassana meditation retreats What to expect during a 10-day silent retreat Awareness of body sensations as a meditation practice Equanimity: learning to observe without reacting The connection between yoga and meditation Training the mind to respond rather than react in daily life Creativity, authenticity, and returning to the arts Andrew's Quotes “You fill your time with postures when you’re young. As you get older, you fill your postures with time.”  “Vipassana is about observing sensations in the body and learning not to react.”  “It’s not just meditation—it’s training for how you respond to life.”  “You begin to notice cravings and aversions—and stop feeding them.”    Highlights Andrew’s journey from musician to actor, and back to inner practice The distinction between modern meditation trends and traditional practices How physical practices like yoga and Lagree can support mental focus The role of discipline in both creative work and spiritual practice Links Andrew Abaria andrewabaria.com instagram.com/andrewabaria andrewabaria.com/music Vipassana Meditation dhamma.org Dhamma Vaddhana (Southern California) vaddhana.dhamma.org   If you enjoyed this conversation, please rate, review, and subscribe to Life on Earth Podcast. Sebastien Lagree on Pilates, Lagree Fitness & Transforming Physical Training into Spiritual Practice

Sébastien Lagree — inventor, founder & CEO of Lagree Fitness, creator of the Megaformer and over 100 patented fitness technologies In this episode, Nathalie welcomes visionary fitness innovator Sébastien Lagree for a conversation that bridges movement science, spiritual awareness, and the future of wellness. Sébastien shares his remarkable journey from his bodybuilding roots to developing the Lagree Method, a globally recognized high-intensity, low-impact training system licensed in more than 500 studios worldwide. Together, they explore how his passion for design and experimentation led to the invention of the Megaformer.  Nathalie and Sébastien dive into the often misunderstood distinction between Lagree Fitness and Pilates. While both share roots in mindful movement and spring-based equipment, their intentions differ. Pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s, was originally designed for healing, rehabilitation, and restoring balance in the body through alignment, control, and mindfulness. Lagree, on the other hand, merges strength training, cardio, and muscular endurance into one continuous, full-body workout. It applies bodybuilding principles such as time under tension and progressive overload, yet remains joint-safe and accessible through spring resistance. As Sébastien explains, Pilates aims to restore and heal, while Lagree was created to sculpt, strengthen, and transform—each method serving a unique purpose in supporting mind-body connection and overall vitality. The discussion expands into deeper territory—how mindset, intention, and heart–brain coherence transform physical training into a spiritual practice. Sébastien and Nathalie reflect on how fitness can be a path to self-mastery, clarity, and confidence when approached consciously. Practical insights include how often to train, why 20–45 minute sessions can be highly effective, and the importance of honest nutrition habits for lasting results. They also explore where fitness is headed next: from biohacking and R&D innovation to measuring wellness through energy, focus, and mental balance rather than calories burned. This inspiring conversation reminds listeners that movement is both science and art—a gateway to deeper self-awareness, empowerment, and transformation. Yoga : Wisdom & Tradition with Raghunath Cappo

Our guest today is Raghunath who has so much wisdom to share. He is a long-time yogi, spiritual teacher, musician, podcaster, and co-founder of Supersoul School and Farm. A teen in search of meaning, Ray Cappo fled his suburban Connecticut enclave for New York City — and found community among the misfits of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. He fell in love with punk rock, so he started a band, Youth of Today, and a record label. Success soon followed. By the late 1980’s, his bandhad thousands of fans, cementing Ray as a leading voice and trendsetter at the bullseye of hardcore culture. At the age of 22, he experienced a spiritual awakening and traveled to India to become a monk. After 6 and a half years, he began another successful band. 20 years ago, Nathalie and Raghunath met while they both worked at YogaWorks in Los Angeles. He never planned to become a teacher, but was always fascinated by spiritual openness. After moving to L.A., he realized he didn’t want to be a musician anymore, but yoga was a passion of his. He was asked to sub as a teacher, and his teaching journey began from there. After all this time, what does yoga mean for Raghunath? In the past, he was always interested in alternative lifestyles and clean living, but he never approached yoga as a specific way to “fix” one thing. It was always a search for spirituality. Now, yoga isn’t the whole meal, rather it is the condiment for larger feasts of the soul. We are spiritual beings that have a soul. The goal of yoga is knowledge of the Self. Who are you underneath your ego self? Underneath all the trappings of the false self, who is the true you? The body is a gift, but it is not all we are. All aspects of yourself need to be nurtured. Stand Up for India with Tarini and Roxann

Today we are joined by Tarini Menezies and Roxann DeSouza, graduates of the Shanti Yoga Training School and currently based in India. Tarini and Roxanne are here to discuss what we can do as a community to step up and help India, giving back, and what yoga means to them today. Tarini and Roxann are yoga teachers based in Mumbai. Tarini was brought to yoga by her high-stress job in law. For Tarini, yoga is a way to channel anxiety and stress in a more helpful way. For Roxanne, this past year yoga has been a way to cope with anxiety for both old and new practitioners. When the pandemic started in India in January 2020, much like everywhere else, people didn’t think it would be a big deal. Within a few weeks the country was in a lockdown that lasted for months. In January of 2021, the country started slowly opening up again. Since then, things have taken a drastic turn for the worse. Cases began increasing at a drastic rate, with variant cases appearing more often and more aggressively. There was also a huge increase in children and young people getting sick, along with people getting COVID-19 for the second time.  Yoga is about mindfulness - bring that mindfulness outside of yourself to the greater world and give back. Here are 3 NGOs that are doing great covid relief work in India suggested by Raxann and Tarini. Give India -  https://www.giveindia.org   Hemkunt Foundation - https://hemkuntfoundation.com     Childrens Hope India - https://www.childrenshopeindia.org   Also here is an organization based in India, that's dear to Nathalie's heart and one she has worked with on her many trips to India  www.odanadi.org    Connect with Tarini and Roxanne: Tarini: https://www.instagram.com/mumbaiyogi Roxanne: https://www.instagram.com/roxyb90   Get the 21 Days Yoga Challenge in exchange for a podcast review and here are the steps - 1- write a 5 starts review  2- take a screen shot of your review 3- email your review to [email protected] 4- receive Nathalie's 21 Days Yoga Challenge online course and enjoy! https://www.lifeonearthpodcast.com/courses/21-days-yoga-challenge Join LIGHT CODE Membership for all things energy healing and quantum physics  www.nathaliecroix.com/members-portal  Our Internationally acclaimed Yoga Training School offers... 200 & 300 Hour certification programs + online courses. www.shantiyogatrainingschool.com   Join Nathalie's Friday Highlights mailing list HERE  Check out Nathalie's book www.livinglifeinlight.com Grab a copy of our work book / journal / planner  The LIGHT CODE Planner  nathaliecroix.com/light-code-planner IG @shantiyogatrainingschool @nathaliecroix Check out our online School and courses at lifeonearthpodcast.com Love & Light! Magic Is All Around Us ~ GLACCE

Tapping into the Aquarian Technology with GLACCE. Intention & Action paired together are powerful tools. Today we are joined by Sharon Leslie and Julia Schoen, the founders of Glacce. They make crystal water bottles designed to infuse your hydration with intention. Glacce began in 2015 when Sharon came up with the idea for the bottle in a dream. Both Sharon and Julia have always been interested in the left-handed path, magic, and finding their own place in life. Therefore, when this idea appeared, it was a clear message to build it. Beginning as a vision to create a portable crystal elixir, Glacce has expanded into multiple luxury sustainable tools and containers for water. The two met when they were 5, and Julia believes they were destined to be soul family. They grew up together exploring magic and playing witches in Julia’s treehouse. Mentors advised against them partnering in business, but they both knew it was what they wanted. There is a baseline understanding between them that they truly want the best for each other in every aspect. Just like how every person has a different and unique energy, so do crystals. By setting intentions into a specific crystal and immersing it in water, the water is absorbing that energy which is transferred to you whenever you drink. You are supercharging your life. Magic doesn’t have to be strived for; it’s always happening. It’s important to know and understand your own relationship with your crystals to amplify the energy and your experience with them. Rebecca Rebouche ~ Waking The Dreamer

Rebecca Rebouche is an American painter, writer, filmmaker, and entrepreneur known for her decade-long collaboration with international retailer Anthropologie and her large-scale paintings of allegorical family trees. John James Audubon meets Frida Kahlo in a Chagall dreamscape, her work is here to tell the story of us that we didn’t know needed telling. Her surreal naturalistic paintings paired with her intuitive journaling have drawn not only collectors but enthusiasts to her work, resulting in a model of artful living celebrated in The New York Times, Garden & Gun, Anthology Magazine, Madame Air France Magazine and The Great Discontent.     Rebecca Rebouche is a New Orleans-based artist. She describes herself as “in service to tenderness, to people’s base humanity, and their highest rapture. "I clear my energy to create, to receive, to be in the exchange.” Whether she was drawing the backs of people’s heads in church or doodling in school, Rebecca’s talent was encouraged. She went on to study Fine Art and Graphic Design at college. After graduating, she worked in advertising before realizing she could be a full-time artist in her own right. Knowing what she wanted to do from an early age was a blessing and a curse. Creativity and being artistic was always the connecting thread in everything she did. It just took time to hone the method of expression. Rebecca feels like she has built her own language using art. Art in any form is a way of communicating with the universe what gives you life energy and joy. As a self-represented artist, Rebecca takes so much joy in planning her shows and exhibitions. It is about focusing energy on putting together and telling a story. When it comes to her creative process, Rebecca approaches it in a way that works for her natural ebbs and flows. She creates when she feels creative and doesn’t force it when she is not in the flow of creativity.   Connect with Rebecca and check out her work: https://www.rebeccarebouche.com/, https://www.instagram.com/rebeccarebouche/ IG @rebeccarebouche  Join Rebecca in New Orleans for her new collection and show October 19th, 2021 at the New Orleans Botanical Gardens.    Deepen your yoga practice on and off the yoga mat. Martha Soffer - Ayurveda A Holistic Science

Martha Soffer is an Ayurvedic guru and Founder of Surya Spa. She utilizes a system of practical and easy self-care, helping everyone attain balance and wellness through healing retreats, restorative beauty, wellness, and food products, as well as educational guidance and support. For years, Martha worked in computer science. After a rough break up, Martha had the opportunity to study transcendental meditation, and fell in love with the benefits. It was a life changing event 31 years ago that set her on the path she is on now - a path of healing and helping others. At Surya Spa, Martha practices Ayurvedic Panchakarma, a way of purging toxins from the body. Using what nature provides, Martha creates herbal treatments that are tailored to what each person needs. It’s commonly a 7-day process because there are 7 tissues that are worked on during the experience. Panchakarma focuses on doshas, influenced by our environments, nutrition, and even location. Martha explains the 3 doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and what will be beneficial or detrimental for each person. For women, Martha wants you to embrace your womanhood. Later, Martha and Nathalie discuss what you should be doing during a cleanse, connecting to the planet, and how you can begin with Panchakarma. Navigating 5G and EMF Sensitivity with Veronica Ciandre

Veronica Ciandre is creator of high vibration jeweller line iSOLA. Designed to help your body re-harmonize with its natural frequencies, iSOLA aims to help you bring wellness with you wherever you go. Veronica joins Nathalie today to discuss her experiences with frequencies, how they affect her and how you can protect yourself if you share her sensitivity. Back in 2010, the building that Veronica lived in had 25 cell towers installed on the roof, 10 of which were right above her apartment. Within a short amount of time, Veronica started experiencing a myriad of physical symptoms. She had symptoms of insomnia, dizziness and headaches. The symptoms continued and within 6 months developed into symptoms of chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, arthritis, tremors, and more. After going on a camping trip to re-wild herself, she experienced an alleviation of symptoms, only to find them return when she came home. After extensive research and investigation by Dr. Magda Havass, Veronica came to the realization that it was the frequencies that affected her. Veronica uses affirmations to help her stay focused and to talk to her own DNA. The power of using affirmations everyday and practicing gratitude for that which is good has been a driving force in her life. Ahimsa - A Perspective on Non Violence with John Strickler

In today’s conversation, John Strickler, Nathalie’s partner, here to dive into non-violence and exploring the meaning of ahimsa. For John, ahimsa means non-violence against yourself, others, animals, and the Earth. The Earth is our home and should be respected and treated with reverence, not polluted and destroyed. If you see something out of place, something wrong, it is your responsibility to speak up and take action. Learning self-love is a process, and there will be times where you honor yourself and times when you don’t. It is important to remember that we are all works in progress. Everyone has a dharma or purpose, and some have many. John believes we are born with our purpose but that it takes time and work to discover it. Nathalie brings the conversation full circle back to self-love and the differences between how feminine and masculine perspective changes the experience of self-love. To end the episode, John offers advice for grounding yourself and giving yourself grace, and the two discuss the new addition to their household. He joins Nathalie today to discuss time management, nomadic lifestyles, and viewing health as a totality. They ultimately sold the business and have spent the last 6 years travelling the world with their 3 children. If you are feeling discouraged as a small business owner by the events of the past year, Josh offers some advice. Clarify your vision and step into your fear. Cultivating Opposites ~ Pratipaksha Bhavana

Today we are discussing the yoga sutra of Pratipaksha Bhavana, the concept of opposites. It states “when disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite ones should be thought of.” Nathalie discusses how to practice Pratipaksha Bhavana, the power of contemplation, and coming back to yourself. Pratipaksha Bhavana can be used when you are in a state of emotional turbulence to help you release painful and destructive emotions. If you can practice this, it can help you reach a higher place spiritually. It is easier said than done to set aside those feelings. Over time, we become psychologically and neurologically habituated to the experience. Removing yourself from the situation can help you with that release and offer perspective. The practice of Pratipaksha Bhavana is about contemplation of the opposite. Ask yourself if you are addicted to the sensations negative emotions produce.
