Ep.116 What Are Macros? How We Lost 265 Pounds Together

In this episode, we’re breaking down the basics of MACROS and why they’ve played such an important role in our weight loss journeys. Together, we’ve lost 265 pounds, and learning how to use macros was a major part of changing the way we approached food and weight loss. We’re going back to the basics and breaking down the Big 3: protein, carbohydrates, and fats. We’ll explain what each macro does, why your body needs them, how they work together, and some of our go-to foods in each category. If you’ve ever heard people talk about “counting macros” and thought, “Okay, but what the hell does that actually mean?” this episode is for you. This is where it all starts. Ep 115. Carbs, Do I have to cut them to lose weight?

If you've ever stared at a plate of pasta and felt guilty, this episode is for you. Carbs, carbs, carbs — are they really the enemy? Do you have to cut bread, pasta, rice, and more out of your diet in order to lose weight? Let's talk about it. In this episode, I'm breaking down: What carbs actually do in your body (energy, muscle glycogen, and performance) Why cutting carbs isn't required for fat loss — it all comes down to calorie and macro balance How to fit bread, pasta, and rice into a fat-loss plan without the guilt The biggest carb myths I hear all the time (and why they're not true)   Resources Mentioned: MacroU: Macro Mentorship Program → [link]   Nutrition Coaching  3 Day Macro Tracking Course  📲 Follow me on Instagram → @eveguzmanofficial

Ep 114. I Used to Quit My Diet at Day 12 Every Time I Tried to Lose Weight

I Used to Quit My Diet at Day 12 Every Time I Tried to Lose Weight I had to stick to a diet for 21 days straight before I saw the results that eventually added up to 120 pounds lost. But I almost never got there, because I kept quitting at days 10 through 13, every time, convinced the diet wasn't working just because the scale hadn't moved yet. In this episode, I unpack why the scale lags behind real effort, why that lag is exactly where most people give up, and the 21-day rule that finally got me through it. Topics: Fat loss and the number on the scale don't move on the same timeline The 10–13 day mark is a common point where people mistake a data lag for failure Setting a fixed evaluation window (like 21 days) before you start protects you from quitting early Impatience in the moment feels like self-protection, but it's often self-sabotage    "The fat loss hasn't shown up on the scale yet. That part takes time"   If someone you know is in their own day-ten right now, send them this episode.   Resources Mentioned: MacroU: Macro Mentorship Program → [link]   Nutrition Coaching  3 Day Macro Tracking Course  📲 Follow me on Instagram → @eveguzmanofficial

Ep 113. From Two McDonald's Double Cheeseburgers a Day to 150 Pounds Down

From Two McDonald's Double Cheeseburgers a Day to 150 Pounds Down I used to eat two double cheeseburgers and a value fry from McDonald's every single day. I was almost 300 pounds, and that was just Tuesday. Today I'm down 150 pounds, and it wasn't willpower that got me here. It was learning how to cook and season food well, so healthy eating didn't mean giving up the soul food I grew up on. This episode is about staying open to change, building a real cooking skill set, and why "easy is earned" instead of found on day one. Topics: Sustainable change rarely comes from rejecting the food culture you grew up in Learning to cook and season food well is what makes healthy eating stick long-term "Healthy" doesn't have to mean bland, flavor is what makes a routine sustainable Eating healthier gets easier over time, but that ease is earned through repetition, not found immediately Eating healthier gets easier. Easy is earned.  If someone in your life feels like they have to choose between their culture and their health, send them this episode. Ep 112. I Ate More So My Diet Would Actually Work

I Ate More So My Cut Would Actually Work Mentally in a cut, physically in a cut, but the reason it's working started a year ago, with the scariest decision I've made in this whole journey: I stopped dieting and ate at maintenance instead. In this episode, I break down why a full year of eating enough (sometimes even a slight surplus) and lifting as heavy as I could is the actual reason my current cut is working, why "readiness" is something you have to build before you can diet successfully, and why the problem for chronic dieters usually isn't eating too much, it's eating too little for too long. Topics: Repeated dieting can leave the body in a state that isn't ready for another deficit A structured maintenance phase, eating enough, training hard, can be the missing step before a cut works Progress in a maintenance phase should be measured in strength, sleep, and food relationship, not the scale The cut works when the body is ready for it; readiness has to be built, not rushed Resources Mentioned: MacroU: Macro Mentorship Program → [link]   Nutrition Coaching  3 Day Macro Tracking Course    📲 Follow me on Instagram → @eveguzmanofficial

Ep 110. When Your Client Is Doing Everything Right and Still Not Losing Weight

When Your Client Is Doing Everything Right and Still Not Losing Weight Your client is hitting her macros, training consistently, getting her steps in, and sleeping well. So why hasn't the scale moved in three weeks? Most coaches immediately assume one of two things:• The client isn't being honest• The macros are wrong But in many cases, neither is true. In this episode, Eve breaks down the three questions she asks before making any nutrition or training adjustments. You'll learn how to assess a true fat-loss stall, identify when compliance is actually the issue, and understand why stress, recovery, and life circumstances matter more than most coaches realize. If you've ever felt unsure about what to do when a client's progress slows down, this episode will help you think like a coach instead of reacting like a dieter. IN THIS EPISODE: • Why a stalled scale doesn't automatically mean fat loss has stopped• The difference between client effort and actual compliance• How to determine whether a plateau is real or simply normal weight fluctuations• The role stress, sleep, travel, and recovery play in scale weight• Common mistakes coaches make when troubleshooting fat loss• Why great coaching requires assessment before action• How to develop stronger decision-making skills as a nutrition coach   "Experts don't guess. Experts assess." Ep 109. Why Getting Certified Didn't Make Me a Great Nutrition Coach

Why Getting Certified Didn't Make Me a Great Coach You passed the exam. You got the certification. So why do so many coaches still feel unprepared when a real client needs help?   In this episode, Eve shares the uncomfortable truth that most coaches discover after certification: credentials don't automatically create confidence. While certifications teach information, they rarely teach decision-making, pattern recognition, or how to navigate real-world client situations when the textbook answer doesn't work.   Drawing from her own journey of losing 150 pounds, leaving a stable laboratory management career, and building a six-figure coaching business, Eve breaks down the difference between being certified and becoming an expert coach.   In This Episode:  Why certifications often leave coaches feeling unprepared  The biggest misconception about confidence in coaching  The difference between information, application, and judgment  Why collecting more certifications won't solve imposter syndrome  The three skills most certifications don't teach  How real coaching confidence is actually built  The role of reps, feedback, and experience in becoming an expert coach  Why competence always comes before confidence   Resources Mentioned  Macro Mentorship Coaching Certification  https://www.themacrouniversity.com/   Macros Made Simple for Coaches: The No-Fluff Starter Guide for Coaches: www.themacrouniversity.com/macros-made-simple-for-coaches   Connect with Eve https://www.instagram.com/eveguzmanofficial/

Ep 108: Certified But Stuck: What Nutrition Coach Certifications Don't Teach You

Episode Title: Certified But Stuck: What Nutrition Coach Certifications Don't Teach You Episode Summary: You studied hard, passed the exam, and got certified so why does working with real clients still feel so overwhelming? In this episode, we're talking honestly about the gap between being certified and actually feeling like a confident, effective nutrition coach. If you've ever wondered whether you missed something, this one's for you. In this episode: Why feeling "not ready" after getting certified is completely normal and what it actually means The three things most nutrition certifications don't teach you (psychology, coaching skills, and business) What it actually takes to go from certified to genuinely expert How to find the community, mentorship, and tools that bridge the gap Mentioned in this episode: 🎓 Macro Mentorship — a community and mentorship space for certified nutrition coaches ready to go deeper → https://www.themacrouniversity.com/certification  💻 Free Webinar: From Certified to Expert — The three things you need as a nutrition coach to help your clients lose weight and build a successful business → [Register here ] Connect with me: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eveguzmanofficial/ Website: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/

EP 107. Do You Need a Certification to Become a Nutrition Coach?

Have you had a transformation that completely changed your life and now you're quietly wondering if you could help other women do the same? If you've been sitting on that idea but keep talking yourself out of it because you don't feel "qualified enough" yet,  this episode is for you. In today's episode, Eve Guzman gets real about one of the biggest myths holding aspiring coaches back: the belief that you need a certification, a perfect body, or a flawless story before you're allowed to help anyone. Spoiler: you don't. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why the coaching industry has overcomplicated what it actually takes to help people What your lived transformation gives you that no certification can What clients are really looking for in a coach (and why it's probably not what you think) The difference between coaching as information vs. coaching as connection The honest reality check every aspiring coach needs to hear before they start How to know if you're far enough down the road to start reaching your hand back   Is This You? Ep 106. Macro Tracking Isn't About Eating Less. It's About Finally Seeing What You've Been Missing

In this episode Eve breaks down the difference between tracking to restrict and tracking to understand and why that distinction is the reason most women's past attempts at macros didn't stick.   If you've ever felt like tracking made you more anxious, more obsessive, or more frustrated, this one is for you. Ep 105. Maintenance Calories: How to Find Them, Track Them, and Trust in Them

Before fat loss ever works, you need to understand one foundational number: your maintenance calories. In this episode, I break down what maintenance calories actually are, why most people skip this step, and how not knowing your maintenance makes dieting feel chaotic and frustrating. We talk about why calculators miss the mark, how to find your real maintenance through tracking and trends, and why this phase builds trust with your body instead of fear around food. If you’ve been dieting for years without knowing your baseline, this episode will change how you approach fat loss entirely.   In This Episode:   Why most people jump into deficits without a foundation  What maintenance calories really mean (and what they don’t)  Why calculators aren’t the answer  How to find your maintenance using tracking and trends  How long to track to determine maintenance accurately  Why maintenance makes fat loss easier, not harder  How this phase builds confidence, not confusion Resources Mentioned, click below:  Free Macros Guide: Learn how to track macros in a simple, sustainable way Nutrition Coaching

Ep 104. Why Macro Tracking Didn’t Work Until I Did It Accurately

For years, I believed my body was the problem. I tried to eat healthy, exercised consistently, and still felt stuck, until I realized the issue wasn’t discipline or willpower. It was accuracy. In this episode, I share the moment everything changed for me: understanding that I wasn’t actually in a calorie deficit. Not because I didn’t care, but because I was guessing. Once I started tracking honestly instead of optimistically, weight loss finally became predictable and that understanding ultimately led to losing 150 pounds. This episode is about physiology, not perfection, and why accurate tracking creates clarity instead of obsession. In This Episode"  Why “trying hard” isn’t the same as being in a calorie deficit  How eyeballing portions and guessing sabotages fat loss  The difference between intention and intake  Why tracking didn’t make me obsessive   What accurate tracking actually means (and what it doesn’t)  How clarity replaces frustration and self-blame Fat loss doesn’t respond to effort or intention. It responds to data. When tracking is honest, adjustments stop feeling emotional and start feeling manageable. EP 103. You Didn’t Fail at Weight Loss. The Plan Failed You.

If you’ve ever felt like you “can’t stick to a plan,” this episode is for you. In this episode, I unpack why repeated weight loss attempts fail not because of a lack of discipline, but because of flawed approaches built on restriction, hunger, and compliance instead of education and structure. I share my own history of trying every popular diet, why none of them lasted, and what actually changed when I stopped trying to control food and started learning how to fuel my body. This conversation is about physiology, not willpower and why sustainable fat loss starts with understanding, not suffering. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: Why most diets “work” briefly and then fail The difference between restriction and structure How hunger, low protein, and lack of education sabotage consistency Why tracking calories and macros can feel freeing instead of obsessive What actually makes fat loss sustainable long term   Resources Mentioned: Free Macros Guide: Learn how to track macros in a simple, sustainable way 3 Day Macro Tracking Course   Nutrition Coaching

Ep 102: The Part of My Weight Loss Story You Never See

Before the weight loss, before the magazine feature, before the credentials, there was a lifetime of believing my body was the problem. In this episode, I share the part of my story that doesn’t make the highlight reels. Growing up in a larger body, gaining significant weight during pregnancy, hitting a breaking point, and finally learning how to apply science and structure to myself. This is not a story about motivation or perfection. It’s about consistency, physiology, and why understanding macros changed everything for me and for the people I now teach. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: How early body beliefs shape dieting behavior later in life Why knowledge alone doesn’t create change without structure What my fat loss process actually looked like day to day How I lost over half my body weight sustainably Why the process matters more than the before-and-after Calories matter. Protein matters. Macros matter. But understanding how to use them sustainably is what makes results last.   Resources Mentioned: Free Macros Guide: Learn how to track macros in a simple, sustainable way 3 Day Macro Tracking Course  Nutrition Coaching

Ep 101: When Macros Aren’t Enough: The Gap Most Coaches Hit

Macros work. You still teach them. You still believe in them. But if you’ve coached long enough, you’ve probably hit the point where macros stop explaining what’s happening with your clients. In this episode, we’re talking about the moment many coaches experience but rarely say out loud. Clients are compliant, tracking, training, and consistent… and results still stall. Energy drops. PMS worsens. Bloating shows up. And suddenly the tools that once worked feel incomplete. This isn’t a discipline problem or a mindset issue. It’s a physiology and systems issue. In this conversation, I break down why this gap happens, where most coaches go wrong when they hit it, and the missing skill set that allows you to coach with confidence instead of guessing.   What You’ll Learn  Why macros eventually stop explaining client results  The common patterns behind stalled fat loss, hormonal symptoms, and low energy  Why adding more restriction or cardio often backfires  The biggest misconceptions coaches have about functional nutrition  How functional nutrition complements macros instead of replacing them  What actually builds confidence when client cases get complex   This episode is for you if you are:  A macro coach who feels like something is missing  Working with women in perimenopause or with complex symptoms  Tired of guessing when clients plateau  Wanting to stay evidence-based without being rigid  Ready to understand the “why” behind client responses This episode is not for:  Coaches looking for quick fixes or plug-and-play protocols  Anyone wanting to skip foundations  Coaches who don’t want to think critically about physiology   Mentioned in This Episode  Functional Nutrition Coaching Certification (FNC)  Hormones, gut health, stress physiology, and blood chemistry patterns  The difference between reacting to symptoms and understanding systems   Ready to Go Deeper? If you’ve felt that ceiling with macros, this is exactly why Functional Nutrition Coaching exists. FNC teaches coaches how to connect symptoms, labs, and nutrition into real coaching decisions. Ep.100 When Your Labs Are Normal… But You Still Feel Like Crap

You’ve been told your labs are “normal.” Your doctor says everything looks fine. But you’re exhausted, bloated, not losing weight, not ovulating, or just don’t feel like yourself. So what gives? In this episode, I break down why normal labs do not always equal optimal function — especially for women dealing with stress, hormone shifts, metabolic adaptation, or long-term under-fueling. We’ll talk about what labs actually tell us, what they miss, and how symptoms often show up long before numbers fall outside the reference range. If you’ve ever felt dismissed, confused, or gaslit by “perfect labs,” this episode is for you. What You’ll Learn: Why "normal" lab ranges often miss early signs of dysfunction The problem with one-time blood draws (and what they overlook) How functional labs like the DUTCH test can uncover hidden imbalances Why your symptoms aren’t just “in your head”.... and what they could mean A clear path to start getting real answers (hint: it’s not more guessing) Mentioned in This Episode: Free Resource: The Bloodwork Blueprint https://www.themacrouniversity.com/the-bloodwork-blueprint Bloodwork Blueprint - Coach’s Edition: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/the-bloodwork-blueprint-coach-edition   How to Integrate Labs in Your Coaching Business: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/integrate-labs    Connect With Me: 📲 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eveguzmanofficial 📧 Contact: [email protected] 🌐 Learn more about Functional Nutrition Coaching at https://www.themacrouniversity.com/fnc-waitlist

Ep.99 What is functional nutrition: macros, calories, hormones and labs

Functional nutrition goes beyond counting calories or following food pyramids. It’s not about rigid food rules or trendy protocols. It’s about understanding how food affects your body at a systems level — your hormones, gut, metabolism, nervous system, and immune response — and using that information to make targeted, sustainable decisions. In this episode, I break down what functional nutrition actually is, what it is not, and why so many people stay stuck when they focus on food choices without understanding physiology. If you’ve ever done “all the right things” and still felt off, this conversation will help connect the dots. What You’ll Learn in This Episode What functional nutrition really means (without the fluff) How it differs from calorie counting or generalized nutrition advice Why two people can eat the same way and have very different outcomes How symptoms, labs, and intake data work together Why food alone isn’t always the fix — but it’s always part of the picture   Bloodwork Blueprint - Coach’s Edition: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/the-bloodwork-blueprint-coach-edition   How to Integrate Labs in Your Coaching Business: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/integrate-labs    Connect With Me: 📲 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eveguzmanofficial 📧 Contact: [email protected] 🌐 Learn more about Functional Nutrition Coaching at https://www.themacrouniversity.com/fnc-waitlist

Ep 98. Selling on Instagram Stories in 2026: Why the Old Rules Don’t Work Anymore

In This Episode, You’ll Learn:  • The major shifts happening on Instagram in 2026 • Why polished, static Stories are actually repelling buyers • How audience behavior has evolved and what they need from you now • The subtle mistakes coaches make that interrupt trust and kill conversions • The foundational principles behind the new C.A.S.H.™ Framework • Why DM triggers, talking-head videos, and emotional alignment outperform old tactics • How to begin reshaping your Stories for deeper engagement and better sales   Takeaways  • Today’s buyers are savvier, more skeptical, and less responsive to hype-driven sales. • High polish doesn’t equal high trust. Connection beats perfection. • Over-educating on Stories can overwhelm your audience and halt the buying process. • Story sequences work best when they mimic real conversations, not presentations. • The C.A.S.H.™ Framework is designed for how people consume content and make decisions in 2026.     C.A.S.H.™ Framework Workshop: If your Story views are there but your sales are quiet, it’s time to update your approach. Ep 97. How to Prep Your Clients for a Fat Loss Phase: Why 4- 6 Weeks at Maintenance Changes Everything

Episode Summary Most coaches rush clients straight into a deficit and then wonder why fat loss stalls, biofeedback tanks, or consistency falls apart. In this episode, we break down why maintenance is the real starting line for an effective fat loss phase, and why 4-6 weeks at maintenance sets the entire cut up for success. If your clients struggle to lose fat (or stay consistent), this simple shift changes everything. In This Episode, You’ll Learn:  • Why fat loss doesn’t start with slashing calories • The purpose and power of a 4 - 6 week maintenance phase • What happens physiologically during maintenance and why it matters • The key habits you need to solidify before dropping macros • What coaches should be assessing during the prep window • The mindset reframes that help clients buy into this process • How to know when a client is actually ready for a deficit   Takeaways  • Maintenance is the metabolic warm-up every successful cut needs. • A stable body responds faster and more predictably to a deficit. • Consistency at maintenance fixes tracking drift, stabilizes hunger, and improves training quality. • Most “slow fat loss” issues are actually “poor prep” issues. • When you prep well, clients lose faster, retain more muscle, and stall less.   What You Should Assess Before Cutting:  • Energy, hunger, sleep, digestion, stress • Training recovery and performance • Tracking accuracy and routine stability • Consistency across the full week • Emotional readiness and lifestyle patterns   If you want deeper guidance on programming fat loss phases, adjusting macros, and coaching clients through plateaus, this is exactly what we train inside Macro Mentorship. Ep 96. Macros Aren’t Math, They’re Metabolism

If you’re still coaching macros like they live in a calculator, you’re missing the most important part: your client’s context. In this episode, Eve breaks down why macros aren’t just numbers ... they’re communication. You’ll learn how to stop treating nutrition coaching like a math problem and start seeing it for what it really is: a conversation between metabolism, hormones, and lifestyle. This is the episode that will make you rethink how you build macro plans, how you assess client feedback, and how you coach beyond the numbers. Because macros aren’t math, they’re metabolism. And once you learn to read the body’s signals, you’ll never coach the same way again.   You’ll Learn:  Why macros are more than calories and ratios  How hormones, stress, sleep, and cycle phases affect client response  What “metabolic communication” really means  How to shift from calculator-style coaching to physiology-based coaching  Why client context matters more than perfect numbers  How to coach the person, not just their data   Key Takeaways:  Macros are communication — every adjustment is a signal to the body.  The same macros hit differently depending on stress, sleep, and recovery.  You can’t coach macros in isolation; you have to coach the human.   Great coaches don’t just track numbers — they interpret biofeedback.  This is what separates coaching for results from coaching for understanding.   Power Quote from Eve: Macros are communication. Every adjustment you make sends a message to the body — and the body always answers. The question is: are you listening?     Links & Resources:  Watch the Mastering Client Transformations replay → https://www.themacrouniversity.com/masteringtransformations   Learn more about Macro Mentorship:  the certification + business mentorship that teaches you how to coach beyond the numbers -→ https://www.themacrouniversity.com/certification   Follow Eve on Instagram → @eveguzmanofficial

Ep 95. The Loneliness No One Talks About: Working From Home as a Fitness Coach

Everyone glamorizes working from home as a coach; the freedom, the flexibility, the dream schedule. But no one talks about how quiet it can get. In this episode, Eve gets real about the loneliness that comes with working from home as a fitness or nutrition coach. You can coach twenty clients a day and still feel completely alone—because messages aren’t connection. And when the lines between work and life blur, that “dream schedule” can start to feel heavy fast. Eve breaks down why this loneliness is normal, what’s changed since 2020, and how to rebuild real connection in 2025, both online and off. TOPICS: How the online space has shifted since 2020 and why connection feels different now Why isolation hits service-based coaches harder than most How the “freedom” of working from home can quietly turn into disconnection The real signs you’re slipping into loneliness (and what your body’s trying to tell you) Simple strategies to create more structure and connection in your day What Eve personally does to stay grounded and avoid the “alone but always online” spiral   Feeling lonely working from home doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful or broken—it means you’re human. Ep. 94 You Can’t Convince Your Clients to Change (and That’s Not Your Job)

If you’ve ever wanted to shake a client and say, “Just trust me... eat more food!”… this episode is for you. In today’s episode, Eve breaks down one of the toughest truths in coaching: You can’t convince your clients to eat more, stop dieting, or change habits they’re not ready to release. Because real change doesn’t happen through convincing, it happens through readiness and self-accountability.  Eve shares why logic doesn’t override fear, how to recognize when a client isn’t ready to change, and how to shift from pushing harder to coaching smarter. This is your reminder that you’re not failing as a coach, you’re working with real humans who need more than macros and motivation.   You’ll Learn:  Why fear of change often trumps facts and data  How diet trauma and “chronic deficit” thinking keep clients stuck  What readiness to change really looks like (and how to assess it)  The difference between carrying your client’s accountability and coaching it  Practical ways to guide resistant clients toward trust and consistency  Why your job isn’t to “fix” clients — it’s to help them find clarity and ownership   Key Takeaways:  You can’t push clients into readiness; you help them build it.  Self-accountability is a skill not a trait and it has to be practiced.  Convincing doesn’t create compliance. Clarity does.  Clients don’t change when they understand what to do they change when they understand why it matters to them.   As a coach, your boundaries and systems protect both your energy and your impact.   Quote from Eve: “Logic doesn’t override lived experience. Fear is louder than facts. You can’t convince clients to change, you can only meet them where they are and guide them toward their own evidence.”     Links & Resources: Learn more about Macro Mentorship — the certification + business mentorship that teaches you how to coach with clarity, confidence, and systems that actually work -→ https://www.themacrouniversity.com/certification   Watch the Mastering Client Transformations replay → https://www.themacrouniversity.com/masteringtransformations   Follow Eve on Instagram → @eveguzmanofficial

Ep 93. Why Your Clients Aren’t Losing Fat - And It’s Not the Calories

Macros work… until they don’t. Every coach has had that client who does everything “right”—hitting macros, workouts, steps, and water—yet the fat loss just won’t happen. Most coaches respond by cutting calories lower, but that’s often the wrong move. In this episode, Eve breaks down the real reasons fat loss stalls even when the math looks perfect, including metabolic adaptation, hormone imbalances, micronutrient deficiencies, and gut health issues. You’ll learn what to look for, how labs can uncover hidden barriers, and how to shift your coaching approach so you stop losing frustrated clients and start building long-term trust. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why “eat less, move more” isn’t enough for chronic dieters The science of metabolic adaptation and how it halts fat loss How thyroid, cortisol, and estrogen/progesterone shifts impact body composition The role of nutrient deficiencies and gut health in fat loss resistance When to reverse diet, support stress and sleep, or correct nutrient gaps before lowering calories again How using labs (Blood Chemistry, DUTCH, GI-MAP) gives you the tools to troubleshoot effectively The business advantage of going beyond macros: higher retention, referrals, and authority as a coach Resources & Next Steps: Learn more about the Functional Nutrition Coaching Certification (FNC) → https://www.themacrouniversity.com/fnc  Connect with Eve on Instagram → @eveguzmanofficial

Ep. 92 Why Clients Want Labs and How Hormones Change Things

Macros work—until they don’t. If you’ve ever had a client who tracks perfectly but still can’t break through a plateau, you know the frustration. Lowering calories and adding more cardio only go so far. The truth? It’s not always about the macros. In this episode, I share why your clients actually want lab testing, how hormone health changes everything, and why integrating labs into your coaching can take you from guessing coach to trusted expert. You’ll learn: Why clients want labs (it’s not about the numbers—it’s about clarity and proof). The hormone red flags most coaches miss that explain stubborn weight, fatigue, and plateaus. 3 lab tests that eliminate guesswork and help you stop second-guessing your strategies. How to integrate labs + functional nutrition into your coaching without throwing out your macro model. Why labs raise your credibility and retention and position you as the go-to coach in your niche. If you’re ready to move beyond macros and start solving the deeper issues that keep clients stuck, this episode is your roadmap. Ep. 91 From Macros to Root Cause: How Sabra Doubled Her Coaching Business with Functional Labs

Sabra Cawby transformed her coaching practice by diving into functional nutrition and hormone-focused strategies. In this episode, she shares how shifting from macro-based coaching unlocked deeper client transformations—from gut healing and weight loss to pregnancy and hormonal balance. About Sabra Cawby Sabra is a Certified Functional Hormone Specialist, Functional Nutritionist, and Certified Personal Trainer. She helps clients uncover root causes of issues like low energy, gut dysfunction, perimenopause, and hormonal imbalances—even when conventional labs return “normal” results. Her mission: help men and women feel strong, balanced, and confident using functional testing like GI‑MAP testing, functional blood chemistry, cortisol testing and more. Sabra Cawby Wellness Coaching, is based in Florida. Sabra leverages her background as a former dental hygienist and athlete to craft integrative wellness coaching that’s rooted in science and real-world results. In This Episode You’ll Hear: 1. Sabra’s Coaching Roots How she got started in nutrition and fitness coaching with macro tracking and training routines. The frustrations she faced when clients plateaued, despite doing “all the things right.” The moment she realized that macros alone weren’t enough—and the functional tools her practice was missing. 2. The Shift to Functional Nutrition Her experience with Macro Mentorship and how FNC (Functional Nutrition Certification) expanded her toolkit—especially through gut testing and cortisol management. The first time she used GI-MAP and DUTCH testing with clients: dramatic improvements followed (a client losing 10–15 lbs and improving IBS within 14 weeks). How adding lab-based strategies not only changed outcomes but doubled her business and boosted her coaching confidence. 3. Client Transformations & New Offerings A client who got pregnant in the first month after shifting to hormone-based root cause coaching. A gut health client who had tried everything—until Sabra identified and removed virulence factors through lab testing. A weight-loss client who finally felt “unstuck” and like a completely new person. Launching a focused program for women with PCOS, menstrual cycle, and fertility issues—offering an alternative to receiving only birth control as a solution. 4. Sabra’s Advice for Coaches To coaches confident in macros but hesitant about functional testing: why this approach might be exactly what your practice—and your clients—need. How functional tools often fill the gaps that even the most well-planned macro strategies can’t reach. Why This Episode Matters If you’ve ever felt your coaching “hit a wall,” this episode illustrates how functional nutrition can be the game-changer. You’ll walk away with practical inspiration—and actionable strategies—for using testing tools to drive client breakthroughs and grow your business. What started as a weight loss goal... turns into a business built on movement, momentum, and mindset. In this episode, I sit down with Courtney Kopp—founder of Momentum on Main —to talk about how a single bet sparked a full-blown career shift. From the coach who once said “I probably can’t afford that” to the woman signing a lease and opening a gym, Courtney’s story is all about following your gut, trusting the process, and building something that feels right. Ep 86. Macros Aren’t the Problem…. But They’re Not Always the Full Solution

Macros work. Tracking works. But what if your client is doing everything right — hitting their numbers, getting their steps, training hard — and they’re still bloated, exhausted, or stuck? In this episode, Eve breaks down why macros might not be the issue… and why they’re not always the full solution. You’ll learn the three major roadblocks that stall progress — even with the perfect macro plan — and how to coach through them like a pro. What You’ll Learn: Why more macro math won’t fix chronic fatigue or fat loss plateaus How stress physiology hijacks results (even in a calorie deficit) The gut-hormone connection and how it blocks progress What to look for when macros “should” be working… but aren’t How to coach beyond food tracking with a functional lens 3 Reasons Why Clients Get Stuck (Even With Perfect Macros): 1️⃣ Stress Trumps Strategy: Cortisol imbalance from under-eating, overtraining, poor sleep, or chronic stress wrecks fat loss, damages muscle, and spikes cravings. 2️⃣ Gut Issues Block Absorption: Low stomach acid, dysbiosis, constipation, and leaky gut reduce nutrient absorption and ramp up inflammation. You can’t fuel change if your gut isn’t absorbing fuel. 3️⃣ Hormone Dysfunction Disrupts Metabolism: Low T3, estrogen dominance, or low progesterone? These hormone imbalances affect how the body uses food, recovers, and stores fat ..... especially in perimenopause. Coach Tips: When to hit pause on a deficit and prioritize recovery How to support digestion with simple, foundational strategies Why you should track symptoms alongside macros When to consider lab testing to get the real root cause   Connect With Me: 📲 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eveguzmanofficial 📧 Contact: [email protected] 🌐 Learn more about Functional Nutrition Coaching at https://www.themacrouniversity.com/fnc-waitlist  📧 Want to know what labs to actually run each year: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/the-bloodwork-blueprint

Ep 85. When Your Labs Are Normal… But You Still Feel Like Crap

Ever been told your labs are “normal”... but you still feel tired, bloated, anxious, wired, or just totally off? You’re not alone. And no .... it’s not all in your head. In this episode, we’re diving into why “normal” labs don’t always mean optimal health. We’ll talk about the limitations of conventional bloodwork, what those normal ranges actually mean, and how functional testing can reveal the root cause of your symptoms. If you’re sick of being told everything looks fine while your body tells a different story, this one’s for you. What You’ll Learn: Why "normal" lab ranges often miss early signs of dysfunction The problem with one-time blood draws (and what they overlook) How functional labs like the DUTCH test can uncover hidden imbalances Why your symptoms aren’t just “in your head”.... and what they could mean A clear path to start getting real answers (hint: it’s not more guessing) Mentioned in This Episode: Free Resource: The Bloodwork Blueprint Want to know what labs to actually run each year (and why)? Ep 82. What is functional nutrition and why you should care?

Episode Description Functional nutrition goes beyond counting calories or following food pyramids. What You’ll Learn in This Episode What functional nutrition really means (without the fluff) How it differs from calorie counting or generalized nutrition advice Why two people can eat the same way and have very different outcomes How symptoms, labs, and intake data work together Why food alone isn’t always the fix — but it’s always part of the picture --------------   Functional Nutrition Coaching Certification: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/fnc-waitlist  Bloodwork blueprint: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/the-bloodwork-blueprint    Blog: https://www.themacrouniversity.com/blog
