"Routine Eye Care to Protect Your Vision" with Andy Meau
Your eyesight is changing, and you might not notice until it is too late. That is the uncomfortable truth behind why we keep coming back to one simple habit: getting a comprehensive eye exam every year. I’m joined by Andy, an optometrist in Hong Kong and the founder of Central Eye Care, to explain how routine optometry visits protect your vision, uncover slow-developing eye disease early, and sometimes even reveal bigger health issues happening elsewhere in the body.We talk about why childhood myopia is exploding in major cities, what “axial length” means, and why measuring it routinely can change the future for kids who are on a fast track to stronger prescriptions. Andy breaks down practical myopia control strategies parents can actually use, including outdoor time in daylight, specialized spectacle lenses, orthokeratology night lenses, soft contact lenses designed for myopia management, eye drops, and emerging red light therapy. The goal is not just seeing clearly today, but lowering the long-term risk that comes with an elongated eyeball, including glaucoma, retinal detachment, and myopic macular degeneration. We also get into what tends to change after age 35, why eye strain and headaches show up more often, and how modern imaging can spot problems earlier than ever. One of the most memorable moments is a patient story where retinal hemorrhage found during a routine exam led to a diagnosis of high blood pressure and prediabetes. If this helped you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people make eye care a yearly habit.Andy Meaulinkedin.com/in/andymeauhttps://www.centraleyehk.com/our-optometristVincent Hiscoxhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/vincent-hiscox-msc-mba-pn1-944237/Pro Coach: https://procoach.app/vincent-hiscoxEmail: [email protected]

"Dragon Girl Fitness - A Holistic Wellness Plan" with Isabella
Someone will always have something to say the moment you try to change your body or your life. We sit down with Isabella, founder of "Dragon Girl Fitness", the all-pink boutique gym in Hong Kong, to talk about what it really takes to build sustainable strength and confidence, especially when you’re starting out and the opinions get loud.We talk through Isabella’s global background (she’s lived in seven countries), how that shaped her independence, and how she now coaches clients with a truly holistic wellness lens. Training is only one piece. We get into dietary adjustments, sleep improvements, supplements, and why a “total health solution” matters more than a generic workout plan. She also shares what her clients love most right now, including sauna sessions, plus how tools like red light therapy and recovery practices can support both physical performance and mental well-being.Then we go deeper into mindset: why comparing yourself to social media is a trap, why progress has to be step by step, and why consistency beats intensity. Isabella also opens up about her daily discipline (including intermittent fasting and a structured routine), how fashion motivates her training, and the personal meaning behind her tattoos as a living record of her life journey. If you want practical motivation, a fresh take on boutique fitness, and a reminder to listen to yourself instead of the crowd, hit play. Healthy Habits That Actually Stick with Vincent Hiscox
You already know what to do for your health. The hard part is doing it when you’re tired, busy, or stressed and that’s exactly where habits take over. We dig into what a habit really is: an automatic behavior built through repetition, triggered by cues in your environment, and powered by a reward your brain actually cares about. We talk about why changing routines can feel uncomfortable, how to find the stress “sweet spot” that helps you grow without burning out, and why tiny habits beat big promises. You’ll hear realistic timelines for habit formation (weeks, not days), why daily habits are easier to lock in than weekly ones, and how simplifying your next step can remove friction fast. If your plan feels hard, the answer is surprisingly simple: dial it back until you’re a 9 or 10 out of 10 confident you can do it consistently. From a health coaching perspective, we walk through the “five whys” to uncover real motivation, plus a concrete weight loss habit example focused on eating more fruits and vegetables. We also cover the cue → action → reward loop and why celebration is not cheesy, it is brain science. That small moment of “Well done” can spark dopamine, reinforce the behavior, and make tomorrow’s repetition more likely. The rule to keep you on track: miss one day, but don’t miss two.Subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can build simple health habits that stick.Contact VincentPro Coach: https://procoach.app/vincent-hiscoxEmail: [email protected]: Vincent Hiscox Newsletter: https://vincent1cd.substack.com. "Go First" with Chris Garvey
Start with two words that change everything: "Go First". We sit down with returning guest Chris Garvey—National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, primary school teacher, and Hong Kong dad—to unpack how identity-level habits can turn good intentions into a life you can sustain. Chris shares why moving back into primary education felt like learning to teach again and how play, presence, and joy sharpened his craft. He explains how simple non-negotiables—Walking after meals, Protecting sleep, Setting device cutoffs—help him show up better as a father, partner, coach, and colleague. The conversation turns to the "Weeze Walk", a 62-kilometer lap of Hong Kong Island that raises funds for youth mental health through Mind HK and Kelly Support Group. After losing a cousin to suicide, Chris transformed grief into action by completing multiple loops last year; this time, he walked two laps back-to-back for 120 kilometers. You’ll hear the full story—moonlit waterfronts, the calm focus of night miles, the midday struggle on Dragon’s Back without water—and the practical playbook that got him through: “jiking” for longevity, early-morning training woven into daily life, and a steady fueling plan built on water, salt, peanut butter oat balls, and nut bars.Along the way, we explore the real bridge from "Knowing to Doing: BEING. Instead of short sprints and self-judgment, Chris urges tiny, durable changes that define who you are. That lens also drives his mission for youth mental health—building timely, accessible support so young people can recognize distress early and reach out before a spiral deepens. Want to help? Sign up for the Wheeze Walk, donate to active fundraisers like Chris’s, and—most of all—Go First: say hello, check in, offer support, and be the person who shows up.If this conversation moved you, follow and subscribe, share it with a friend, "Make a Donation". Your single step could be the start someone else needs.https://weezwalk.org/en/campaign/200Chrisgarveycoaching.comThehongkongbookclub.com

"Healthy Food - That Tastes So Good " - Tommy Leung
What if healthy food actually became the most delicious part of your day? We sit down with entrepreneur and food innovator Tommy Leung to unpack how flavour-first meals, smart nutrition, and precision fermentation can turn good intentions into a habit you’ll enjoy keeping.Tommy’s journey stretches from family-run Chinese restaurants in Sweden to leading a modern meal service designed for busy professionals. He breaks down why high protein and high fiber are only half the story—taste is the engine of consistency. We explore how his team reworked meal prep from the ground up: fresh, from scratch sauces and curries; 24 rotating options each week from salmon to shredded chicken; flexible chilled deliveries; and macros printed on every label with QR codes for instant ingredient transparency. If you’ve struggled with calorie counting, portion creep, or meal boredom, you’ll take away a simple system to get variety without losing control. We also dive into gut health and the surprising power of fermented foods. Tommy explains how fermentation transforms humble ingredients into umami-rich staples—think miso, soy sauce, kimchi—and why temperature control is the secret to consistent, safe, and expressive flavors. That insight drove the creation of HakkoBako, a professional fermentation chamber now used by top chefs and bartenders to fine-tune ferments at scale. Beyond flavor, we discuss sustainability wins like upcycling kitchen trimmings and how thoughtful tech can reduce waste while elevating taste.Threaded through the conversation are hard-won startup lessons: talk to customers before you build, keep focus tight, separate tools and spaces to avoid context switching, and iterate in public. Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle, or simply eat better with less stress, this episode offers a practical blueprint: make it delicious, make it easy, track what counts, and add ferments for a happier gut. "The Healing Power of Homeopathy" with Dr Manisha Lakhekar
What if your body already contained everything needed to heal itself? Dr. Manisha Lakarkar reveals how homeopathy works with your natural healing processes rather than forcing external cures upon symptoms.Dr. Manisha, a seasoned homeopathic practitioner with over 15 years of clinical experience, shares the profound principle that guides her practice: "We treat man in disease and not the disease in man." This holistic approach stands in stark contrast to conventional medicine, examining not just physical symptoms but the complete person - their emotions, circumstances, and unique expressions of illness. The fascinating principle of "like cures like" forms the foundation of homeopathic treatment. Through vivid examples, Dr. Manisha explains how substances that cause symptoms in healthy people can, when properly prepared, stimulate healing in those suffering similar symptoms. She illustrates this with everyday examples like onions causing watery eyes (while Allium Cepa treats similar allergy symptoms) and coffee keeping us awake (while Coffea Cruda treats insomnia). The most compelling aspect of Dr. Manisha's approach is her commitment to individualization. Where conventional medicine might prescribe identical medications to different patients with the same diagnosis, homeopathy examines each person's unique manifestation of illness. Three patients with headaches might receive three entirely different remedies based on their complete symptom picture, emotional state, and personal circumstances. For those curious about practical applications, Dr. Manisha recommends keeping several key remedies at home: Arnica 30 for injuries, Cocculus 30 for travel sickness, Cantharis 30 for burns, and Arsenicum 30 for food poisoning. These simple remedies can address common acute conditions effectively and safely.Ready to explore homeopathy for yourself? Dr. Manisha's message is clear: your body possesses tremendous healing power - homeopathy simply directs it toward healing itself. If you're taking medications for chronic conditions and seeking natural alternatives without side effects, this centuries-old yet continuously evolving system of medicine might be exactly what you're looking for.

"Your Health Is Everything Until It's Gone" with Cliff Hegan and Katherine Wang
What would you do if faced with a split-second decision that could determine whether someone you love lives or dies? For Katherine Wang, this nightmare scenario became reality when her husband Cliff Hegen collapsed with a severe headache and vomiting—symptoms that would reveal a life-threatening brain hemorrhage requiring immediate surgery.Their story begins with professional success. As founders of Fitco-consulting, an executive search firm established during the 2008 financial crisis, Katherine and Cliff demonstrated remarkable resilience from the start. When the economy crashed, they pivoted to teaching Mandarin to CEOs before their core business rebounded. Over the years, they expanded across Asia, recruiting C-level executives for both Western multinationals and Chinese companies going global. But everything changed in January 2013, just three weeks after relocating to Zhuhai. What seemed like a minor fall while walking dogs—resulting in what Cliff thought was just a fractured rib—was actually much more serious. The bump to his head created a slow bleed that built up over weeks. When Cliff woke with an excruciating headache, Katherine's decisive action to call an ambulance saved his life. At the hospital, doctors discovered 150ml of blood in his brain and gave Katherine an impossible choice: approve immediate high-risk surgery or lose her husband by morning. The surgery succeeded, but Cliff's journey was just beginning—ten days in an induced coma followed by a careful rehabilitation process. What's truly remarkable isn't just his survival but how this experience transformed both their lives. Three months after being at death's door, Cliff began strength training. Now he works out almost daily, alternating upper and lower body exercises, building core strength through planks, and feeling "stronger and more resilient than before." He's even planning to participate in a high-intensity fitness event next year.Katherine, too, faced her own recovery journey, working through PTSD from the traumatic experience through exercise and renewed focus on health. Their marriage emerged stronger, having passed the ultimate test of their vows "in sickness and in health."Their powerful message resonates beyond their personal story: health is everything. As Cliff says, "Realize that your life is very finite." Katherine adds, "Keep yourself healthy—that's the most important thing." Their experience reminds us all to appreciate our vulnerability, make the most of every day, and build the resilience to bounce back from life's challenges.Ready to prioritize your health before a crisis forces you to? "Active Ageing Advocate" with Winnie Sung
What if the second half of your life could be the best part? While society pushes a narrative that success must happen in youth, transformational coach Winnie Sung discovered exactly the opposite: midlife is when things truly begin to open up.In this deeply insightful conversation, Winnie shares her remarkable journey from Hong Kong-raised lawyer to global corporate executive to purpose-driven coach. Her story illuminates how career transitions can lead to profound personal growth when guided by a clear sense of purpose. After discovering her "why" – enabling people to become better versions of themselves – Winnie now helps midlife professionals create vibrant, fulfilling lives through her active aging business.Winnie's approach centers on three powerful pillars: cross-generational learning, independent living, and holistic well-being. Through transformation coaching, she guides clients to find their purpose, build mental resilience, and navigate career changes with confidence. Her work powerfully challenges the concept of "midlife crisis," reframing it instead as a "midlife calling" – an opportunity to align your life with deeper meaning. The conversation takes a fascinating turn when Winnie shares a client success story. A divorced woman in her 40s who felt "out of time" discovered her purpose through coaching, pivoted her career, and found renewed excitement about her future. This transformation began with challenging negative aging narratives and recognizing the unique wisdom and capabilities that come with life experience. For listeners contemplating their own midlife transitions, Winnie offers actionable wisdom: become aware of your relationship with aging, challenge the "I'm too old for that" mindset, stay curious, and develop a growth mindset. Her parting question – "What if I'm not growing old, but growing whole?" – invites us all to reimagine aging as a journey of expansion rather than limitation.Ready to transform your perspective on midlife and beyond? "Himalayan Secrets: The Ancient Superfood - Shilajit" with Aly Ramzi
From the remote heights of the Himalayas near K2—the world's second-highest mountain—comes a remarkable natural substance that might be the missing piece in your wellness puzzle. Aly Ramzi, founder of Rakaposhi Organics, shares the extraordinary story behind Shilajit, an ancient mineral resin harvested at elevations reaching 18,000 feet. What began as a deeply personal mission following the loss of Aly's mother has evolved into something extraordinary. His mother had dedicated 15 years to building a charity school in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, and Ali created Rakaposhi Organics to honor her legacy while supporting the communities she loved. Through ethical sourcing and transparent practices, the company channels proceeds back to educational initiatives in these remote Himalayan villages. The star of this wellness story is Shilajit itself—a substance so remarkable that its Sanskrit name translates to "destroyer of all weakness." This dark, mineral-rich resin forms naturally in high-altitude rocks and has been treasured in traditional medicine for over 3,000 years. Modern science is now validating what ancient practitioners knew: Shilajit delivers impressive health benefits including sustained energy levels, improved testosterone (one customer documented a 43% increase in just 30 days), enhanced athletic performance, better cardiovascular health, and stronger immunity.Unlike many supplements, Shilajit works by allowing "your body to become more of itself," providing the minerals and fulvic acid needed to optimize natural functions. The production process is as fascinating as the product—specially trained monkeys help locate the resin embedded in mountain rocks, followed by a meticulous three-month purification process using nothing but mountain stream water and sunshine.Whether you're an 80-year-old seeking gentle energy support or a professional athlete looking to maximize performance, authentic Shilajit adapts to your body's needs. Just be mindful—the market is flooded with imitations. True Shilajit comes exclusively from the Himalayas, contains naturally occurring (not added) fulvic acid, and should be sourced from companies with direct relationships to the harvesting communities.Visit RakaposhiOrganics.com to discover how this rare Himalayan treasure could transform your wellness routine while supporting education in one of the world's most remote regions.Timing0:00 Universal Benefits of Shilajit1:58 Introduction to Over 40 Wellness Podcast2:42 Ali Ramsey and Rakaposhi Organics9:04 What is Shilajit and Its Benefits14:18 Extracting Shilajit from Himalayan Rocks19:11 Customer Stories and Dosage Guidance30:24 Ensuring Authentic Shilajit Products39:10 Business Goals and Future Vision48:11 Key Takeaways and Contact InformationContact Aly https://www.rakaposhiorganics.comDiscount Code: 15over40Contact VincentPro Coach: https://procoach.app/vincent-hiscoxEmail: [email protected]: Vincent Hiscox

"Make Meaningful Work" with Josephine Wong and Daniel Szuc
What makes work truly meaningful, and how do our daily interactions shape the cultures we live and work in? This thought-provoking conversation with Josephine Wong and Daniel Szuc reveals powerful insights from their 26-year journey researching human-centered design and workplace transformation. After noticing a troubling disconnect between the empathy preached in human-centered design and the actual behaviors of practitioners, Jo and Daniel embarked on a mission to understand how we might create more meaningful work experiences. Their research culminated in two groundbreaking books: "Make Meaningful Work: From Sleepwalking to Sparkle" and "Make Meaningful Culture: Healthy, Intentional Conduct in Moments That Matter," with a third focused on education in progress. At the heart of their philosophy lies a simple yet profound idea: culture is created through "how you conduct yourselves in the interactions and relationships between people in moments that matter." Rather than abstract theories, they offer practical frameworks for identifying, inspecting, and improving specific behaviors that create healthy or unhealthy conduct chains. Their SPARKLE framework—Supportive, Proactive, Adaptable, Respect, Kind, Listening, and Engaged—provides a memorable structure for intentional conduct. What distinguishes their approach is its practicality. While many self-help and business culture books leave readers wondering "what do I actually do with this?", Jo and Daniels methodology pinpoints specific moments for intervention and encourages small, achievable actions. This bridges the crucial gap between knowing and doing that derails most change efforts.Their most powerful advice? "It's not all about you. Be curious about other people, be curious about other cultures. Don't get caught up with narrow narratives." By expanding our perspectives, connecting dots between diverse ideas, and taking intentional action, we shape not only our personal narratives but contribute to healthier collective experiences.Ready to transform your work experience from sleepwalking to sparkle? "The Chiropractic Centre" with Dr Barry Decker
Barry arrived in Hong Kong in 1990 following his graduation from the Philip Institute in Melbourne in 1987 and he practices as a Brain-Based-Chiropractor focusing on removing blocks in the nervous system so his clients brains and bodies are aligned. His mission is to optimize peoples’ health to enable them to live their lives to their full potential. In the podcast Barry shares his story of why and how he became a chiropractor. Additionally, Barry explains that our bodies know how to self-heal. He shares, in detail, a case study of a six-month old boy with a fever to illustrate how he works with his clients. The six-month old boy was in fact his own son. What is Chiropractic? Barry explains, it is about affecting neurology, it has to be specific to the joint to effect the proprioception in the nerves which fire to the spinal cord up to the brain to allow a connection to the joint. He is a firm believer in the ability of the body to heal itself, we need to be smart, of course, seeking professional assistance for acute conditions on an as needed basis. Barry believes that we can do a lot to help ourselves and he shares his morning and evening routines to give plenty of examples of practices he undertakes.Timing 3:49 Early 1990s …. "Limitless - 2" with Tricia Yap
My guest on the podcast this week is Tricia Yap. This is the second time Tricia has been a guest on the podcast. Previously she featured in episode “131 in December of 2023”. Tricia has been in the fitness industry for closer to two decades. As a strength and performance coach Tricia loves working with Martial Arts athletes and with women in their mid 40’s and beyond. In this podcast we focus on “Limitless”, where Functional Medicine meets Physical Fitness. Tricia assists her clients to get closer to optional health. We discuss the onboarding process for new clients who undertake a Physical and Structural assessment, a Lifestyle assessment, a Nutritional assessment. The onboarding includes an extended interview to know, amongst other things, who is the client, why are they seeking assistance and how have they become the way they are today. Tricia goes into detail on the four function medicine priorities, Blood Sugar, Detox, Adrenal and Gut and how the client program is decided depending on the client priority. At Limitless Tricia explains how they leverage testing to understand the root cause of client issues. How you can eat more and lose weight, how losing weight is more complex than the often quoted “Calories In Calories Out” formula for weight loss. There are many insights shared by Tricia in the podcast like being consistent with your habits and practices at just 30-50% can get a result and being consistent at 80% will yield significant results.
