Barefoot Ben's 500km Hike - tears, bog drama & belief!
Join Ellie and husband, Posture Ben (@posture.ben) for a recap of his recently completed 10 day, 500km barefoot hike across all 95 'Ethels' of the Peak District. We recorded this the day after he succeeded in his challenge, which ran from April 16 - April 26th 2026. Ben speaks about his 'why' for the challenge, his training plan, the challenge itself, highs and lows and his perspectives gained by the end.Ben is raising money for Mental Health UK and the Campaign to Protect Rural England and has kept his challenge website up and running if you'd like to learn more about it here - https://benschallenge.com/Ben wore (kindly gifted) wildsole sandals for his challenge - use code ELLIE for 10% off at https://www.wildsolesandals.com/Jamie Schofield Photography is making the documentary of Ben's challenge - https://www.jamieschofieldphotography.com/Other Info- Order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Vertigo - a symptom AND a sign of postural release
In this episode, Ellie takes on a request from a Posture Squad member to talk more about vertigo. Vertigo is a symptom of a trapped, forward head, where the ear position is not being held efficiently enough to keep the fluid within the ear balanced. Normally, when vertigo is a symptom, the answer lays in putting strength back into the feet and length through the front of the hips (this pulls the upper body backwards). Vertigo can also be a positive sign of a postural release caused by the head shifting backwards dramatically during posture exercises/routines. In this instance, is a temporary and fabulous sign that the upper body has realigned and the head position is less forward than it was.Other Info- Order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Danni Oates - Music lover and Full Time Mum
In this episode, Ellie is joined in the studio by Danni Oates, a Posture Squad member who came all the way from Essex (and back in a day - eek!). Danni is an interesting guest to have on as she has been doing posture fairly consistently for a few years, but hasn't been getting great results (yet). It's wonderful to hear how someone can stay so motivated despite the challenges and hopefully the foot burning, hip wobbling routine we put together for her helps to start making some clear head-way. You can try her routine in The Posture Squad software now!Other Info- Order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

In pain? Do posture, don't rest!
Many people make the mistake of thinking that pain = rest needed. Whilst this totally applies if the injury is acute (or if you're suffering an illness), this is NOT the case for chronic pain (when pain builds up over time without an 'accident'). If you rest whilst in pain, you are not changing the reasons you are suffering pain. By doing the right posture exercises during a pain flare-up, you'll bring pain levels down. Use posture to get you out of pain .. don't avoid posture when you're in pain! Postural Whack-a-Mole
In this episode, Ellie discusses the frustrating game of 'postural whack-a-mole' which is, unfortunately, a normal and necessary part of the process of getting to the root causes of your pain and truly healing. You won't untangle your posture without feeling you are taking two steps backwards frequently (you're not actually taking steps backwards, it's just that your body is changing and it can be hard to keep up). Keep going but keep adapting what you're trying to do with your body and you'll get there in the end (and feel physically amazing but also so proud of yourself!)Other Info- Order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Shoulder Pain - it's not 'weak' .. leave it alone!
Join Ellie for a chat on all things shoulder pain. If your shoulders hurts, it's not 'weak' or 'bad', it's overworked and exhausted .. and needs to be left alone. Through posture detection, you'll be able to figure out what 'threads' (other joints) you need to pull (move differently) in order to put the shoulder in more optimal postural alignment to relieve tension at the shoulder. It's so easy to do - provided you are leaving your shoulder alone! Are you working against yourself?
Join Ellie for a look into the ways we self-sabotage ourselves - this is both in the context of our posture practice, but also our life more widely. Ellie firmly believes that how we do one thing, is how we do everything, and we can use our posture practice to hold a mirror up to ourselves to highlight the ways we might not be showing much self-awareness or self-compassion. If we can focus on our self-awareness and self-compassion, Ellie believes this is where progress via posture occurs, but also where self-growth more widely occurs. She apologises for her slightly unhinged nature of this episode - it's been a very busy and very stressful few weeks and you can definitely sense the vibe!Events -BOOK LAUNCH is on 26th March in Covent Garden at 5-6pm. https://www.watkinsbooks.com/event-details/posture-power-eleanor-daltonWALK IN GREEN PARK is on 27th March in Green Park at 11am-12 noon (location tbc via WhatsApp - please email me if you're interested!)Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

What might have once suited you, might not now (+ Cold Turkey on coffee)
In this episode, Posture Ellie talks you through her experience of going coffee free and then moves onto explaining how exercises that can be your firm favourites, might some day turn into ones that cause you pain. This can be confusing, but the logic always stays the same, your body will give you the information you need to know, and if something causes you pain, you've got to pivot and find exercises that don't cause you pain. The questions are ... are you plateauing, is it something else causing the pain OR have you unpeeled a layer of the onion?Kim Parsons - https://www.naturalli.me/aboutDebbie Townsend - https://www.completelifestyle.co.uk/Events -ALIGNMENT DAY RETREAT - cancelled unfortunately BOOK LAUNCH is on 26th March in Covent Garden at 5-6pm. https://www.watkinsbooks.com/event-details/posture-power-eleanor-daltonWALK IN GREEN PARK is on 27th March in Green Park at 11am-12 noon (location tbc via WhatsApp - please email me if you're interested!)Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

How long does it take to change posture?
Join Ellie as she dissects this question ... and uses the quote "How much do you want it and how hard are you willing to work for it?" to help her out. There are SO many variables between person to person that will impact the speed of progress, most significantly, how much posture you do. But on top of that, there's a plethora of other things that will impact you. The quick answer is that you will change your posture immediately (if you're doing the right exercises for your body) but that the changes will take a few months to take a more permanent grip on your body. Chiropractors + Lockjaw
In this episode, Posture Ellie answers two more listener questions, giving her thoughts on chiropractors and dealing with lockjaw. With the lockjaw, as with any symptom of pain, it's important to look at the body as a whole system, and not hone in on the area that hurts. Whilst lockjaw can and does have postural causes (a bit like discussed last week, if the head isn't sitting properly on top of the shoulders, it can cause issues around 'the head'. However, the issue of the head not sitting properly can be caused by the structures below it being misaligned. So, as with any symptom, we need to take a whole body posture approach to fix it), this listener thinks that stress is the cause. And, if stress is the cause, then the stress must be addressed.RecommendationsEastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea JudithUncanny Podcast by Danny Robins (on BBC)Myotape Mouth Tape - Use POSTUREELLIE for 5% offOther Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Posture & Hypermobility
In this episode, Posture Ellie defines how a posture practice can help with both 'types' of hypermobility. There's the more common type, where someone has one (or a few) hypermobile/hyperextensive joints, typically the knees and elbows. This type of hypermobility is a straight forward movement and posture issue, caused by the joints on either side not performing functionally (causing the hypermobile joint to compensate and overload). The other type of hypermobility is that caused by a hypermobility syndrome (Ehlers Danlos (EDS), Marfan, Stickler to name a few). The causes are both genetic and unknown. Posture Ellie hypothesises that, much like the work of Dr Gabor Mate, that there could be an element of nervous system overload at play. However, regardless of syndrome and regardless of cause, hypermobility conditions really benefit from the balance and strength focus of posture exercises. She finishes by giving tips on how she'd approach posture when working with someone with EDS, based off her experience with previous EDS clients.Suggested Reading - Dr Gabor Mate 'When the Body Says No'Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Why I've come off Instagram
In this more chatty personal episode, Posture Ellie talks through her reasoning as to why she's decided to take a 3 month break from her 'social media drug of choice', Instagram. As a small business owner, it's scary to come off Instagram as there's a rhetoric that social media is compulsory. And, even though Ellie can totally see the benefits of a well executed social media strategy (and how nice it is to have more small talk chat with clients), there's a lot of wasted time, distraction and a lack of creativity lost to an addiction to social media. Psoas: Trauma, Tension & Trouble
In this episode, Posture Ellie talks us through the physical role of the Psoas (the deepest core muscle, responsible for lumbar stabilisation and keeping us upright) and also the emotional role of the Psoas (in terms of it's connection to stress and how it stores trauma and stress in the body). Tension in the Psoas muscle is a) very common due to the amount of time we keep it in contraction whilst sat down b) a large contributor to most people's pain, no matter where it presents in the body. Tension in the Psoas drags the knees and legs out of alignment, the lumbar spine and ribcage out of alignment and means the head and shoulders can't sit comfortably. It's a really big deal and is why it's the muscle most tackled through our corrective posture exercises.Recommended Reading - The Psoas Release Party by Jonathan FitzgordonPhoto of Psoas - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psoas_major_muscleOther Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Posture & Sinusitis
In this episode, Posture Ellie delves into 3 postural reasons as to why you might get Sinusitis (inflammation of the Sinuses) - a general lack of movement, a forward head position and, crucially, poor breathing mechanics. If we are habitually mouth breathing, we expose ourselves to be more susceptible to all manner of different ailments and conditions, one of these being Sinusitis. A key reason for this is that the Sinuses produce Nitric Oxide, a crucial gas for the human body to stay immune to different pathogens, viruses and bacteria, to keep inflammation at bay and to keep our airways clear. The 'Use it or Lose It' principle is very important when it comes to nasal breathing BUT the good news is that, with the right breathing exercises and perseverance, you can restore the ability of nasal breathing back to your body and your entire health will thank you for it.Sources - The Breathing Cure by Patrick Mckeown.Buy Myotape - Apply POSTUREELLIE for 5% off at - https://myotape.com/?ref=50mga&utm_campaign=affiliate+promotions&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=affiliateOther Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

In this episode, Posture Ellie tackles 3 separate mini-topics (as requested by listeners) - Cramping, Wobbling and Earthing. She walks us through why cramping and wobbling are so beneficial in our posture exercises; and why she thinks wobbling can also lead to big emotional releases too. The principles of Earthing are fascinating to look into (and make intuitive sense to most!) and can really reduce inflammation in and bring a sense of ease to the human body, which can lead to monumental reductions in symptoms across many systems of the body (not just musculoskeletal). Humans are designed to spend their WHOLE LIVES in contact with Mother Earth and, in our modern, indoors world with rubber soled shoes, raised beds and carpets, we have almost totally lost this natural, free, easy health benefit that is available to all of us.Earthing ResourcesEarthing by Clint Ober (book)The Earthing Movie by Earthing (YouTube Documentary - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44ddtR0XDVU&t=673s)Earthing Products - BeGrounded (My affiliate link and use POSTUREELLIE10 for 10% off - https://begrounded.co.uk/?ref=gfzgccaw )Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Benefits of Barefoot Shoes
In this topic, Posture Ellie delves into one of her favourite topics ... barefoot movement! When we talk about 'barefoot movement', we are talking about being unshod, as well as wearing 'barefoot shoes' which allow for the natural, unrestricted and unaltered movement of the human foot. Most modern shoes are narrow, cushioned, heeled (at least marginally) and with stiff soles ... and our bodies are suffering for it. The very thing that we are peddled and told that we 'need' (cushioned 'supportive' shoes), strip the muscular function away from our feet and therefore weaken them. Weak feet = pain elsewhere in the body. Once you go barefoot (safely and slowly), you'll never go back!My recommended barefoot brands - Vivo Barefoot - Use POSTUREELLIE20 for 20% off (non-sale) shoesWildsole Sandals - USE ELLIE for 10% off(If you want more barefoot shoe brand recommendations - check out "Anya's Reviews" and "Barefoot Brit")Toe Separators - Get ones like this that are the same width across each separator (and don't get narrower) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sumiwish-Separators-Stretcher-Therapeutic-Fasciitis/dp/B09F8ZLPMW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2YALANW5RM9L3&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.zxgbMM2OUTxqIySgxJ_Fj32KB98do41NqmrrVCWJEDRqa9P78p8NQJ4Vu5-enCaqF-fdJaoIEa9FeqEcvgrNkRyAOEb3FY-dV7nDDRM1D7bw2BoDMcwRL6AKVIrAwEOzkuzkY9SjqDGmO_OObZY8OX3p1DLXy5xmqQvD6dHmDyau57YYimFNT_3owmiXfS9PN1auDCg9nGnuOiDakhsQu5e9emQPpPkUJN7jzHf8O_adeb8h8wUSuYUiTkAI7xWmwUvS1YaorEC7MOJLdTeyib0L78qIPC1iGwRS7NoG0hc.y13rxYn7RDb6_KTBupQWAP-esfm_pYN5DfSKkn0x2eI&dib_tag=se&keywords=silicone+toe+separators&qid=1757073483&sprefix=silicon+toe+separtor%2Caps%2C435&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1Recommended Reading -Exercised by Daniel LiebermannThe Story of the Human Body by Daniel LiebermannWhole Body Barefoot by Katy BowmanMove your DNA by Katy BowmanPrimate Change by Vybarr Cregan-ReidOther Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Healthy Habits that Changed my Life
To celebrate the launch of the 12 day 'Aligned in 10' Challenge, which combines gentle, short posture videos with a healthy habit to integrate into each day (and repeatable at any point on The Posture Squad software), Posture Ellie wanted to do an episode talking through some major lifestyle changes she has made over the last 10 years. Of course, this is not advice that you might want to apply to your life, but these habits (slowly integrated over a long time!) really did help her change many aspects of her physical and mental health. Posture & Other Exercise
In this episode, Posture Ellie talks through the relationship that a committed posture practice plays in helping you enjoy (for a long time without injury!) your favourite sports, hobbies and exercise. Firstly, she discusses how our understanding of 'exercise' is perhaps not what is best for the hunter-gatherer evolved human body. On top of that, we take our imbalanced, stiff 'chair bodies' to sports, without doing the requisite work beforehand to bring balance and mobility back to the joints ... this leads to injury. Many of our sports are also imbalanced and repetitive, and this can play havoc on our posture. Luckily, there's a remedy ... posture exercises! By making your posture practice your bedrock of your movement profile, you will have a resilient, strong body that can do whatever you want to do with it, without pain, without tension, without injury AND with better results!Article on Study on sedentarism, longevity and exercise -https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2024/11/study-finds-too-much-sitting-hurts-the-heart/(Also, read 'Exercised' by Daniel Lieberman)Article about Michael Phelps - https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/news/in-a-hurt-of-pain-michael-phelps-smiled/Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Choosing the right posture routines
In this episode, Posture Ellie helps you to figure out which posture routines you should choose that will suit your body and your posture. The absolute KEY thing to remember/understand is that you mustn't be a heat-seeking missile towards routines that tackle the areas of your body that hurt. For example, if you have hip pain you need to keep AWAY from hip routines, if you have shoulder pain you need to keep AWAY from shoulder routines. If you do this, you're symptom chasing (focusing on the bit that hurts) and you're more likely to make your pain feel worse. Curious? Unpeeling the Onion & Benjamin Button
In this episode, Posture Ellie walks listeners through why we can compare our body and our posture to the layers of onion. As the years go on and dysfunctions and compensations take more and more of a hold on our movement patterns, we create many different 'layers' that have to unpicked in a different order. As you peel away the latest layer of compensation, you reveal the one hiding below it. This process can be confusing and disheartening because it's like playing 'whack-a-mole' with new sensations and old pains resurfacing, as your body begins to move differently and lose its normal 'stabilisers'. We call this the 'Benjamin Button Effect', as you navigate your posture journey, you'll find you re-experience pain and tension you had years ago .. and this is a good thing as you're going back in time and challenging the status quo for your body. When you status quo is challenged, change occurs. Change is what will create your new body!Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Emotions & the Body: My Story
In this episode (we've finished the 10 Posture Commandments now!), Ellie gets quite personal and vulnerable and talks about how her body in recent years seems to reflect her mental state. Whilst she doesn't claim to have the answers or the 'whys', emotions and traumas definitely get 'stuck' in the tissues of our body. And, if we don't move enough or confront the emotional things we are hiding from, they will stay stuck forever and manifest as different types of dis-ease. Starting posture helps to set your body right in a physical sense, and this helps to set your mind on a new path to explore the parts of you you'd been keeping hidden.Books recommendedWhen the Body Says No - Dr Gabor MateThe Body Keeps the Score - Bessel Van der KolkThe Journey - Brandon BaysYou can Heal your Life - Louise HayOther Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

You are not alone
This is the final episode discussing the 10 Posture Commandments. When embarking on a journey of healing and self-discovery, like posture, it's so important to realise you aren't alone, even if it feels like it. Feeling isolated and hopeless is not a motivating place to be and, even if you're struggling and in pain, it's so reassuring to have people around you who understand. This is what being part of The Posture Squad is about ... helping you realise you aren't alone! Don't compare yourself
A sure-fire way to keep yourself stuck is to keep comparing yourself to your former self, a future version of your self or other people. In this episode, Ellie aims to give listeners a 'firm talking to' about how futile comparison is. If you want to progress with your posture, you can only meet your body where it's at right now. If you're treating your body how it was 30 years ago, treating it how you want it to be in the future or treating it like someone else's body, this is yet another form of disrespect and a lack of self-compassion. Give your body what it needs NOW and you'll progress quickly. Give your body what you've decided you think it needs, and you'll stay stuck. Which do you choose?Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Less is (generally) more
When it comes to our posture exercises, many people stumble because they keep pushing for more and won't stop. More exercises, more intensity, more effort ... there's a belief that change will only occur if you're pushing really hard and trying ALL the things. This is totally misguided. As per Posture Commandment No.4 'Don't force anything', you can only move at the pace your body is ready for. Give your body what it wants and accept where you're at, but keep chipping away everyday. This is where you'll make progress. In this episode, Posture Ellie talks listeners through the mental patterns that drive this incessant desire to 'do' and invites you to ask yourself 'why' you need to be busy all the time? Why can't you sit quietly with yourself and enjoy the more relaxing posture exercises? What are you hiding from?Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Long term changes take time
In this episode, Posture Ellie seeks to manage expectations about how quickly you'll make longer-term changes that truly stick. As covered in last week's episode, when an exercise/routine suits your posture, you will know about it right away, as your body will start feeling less tense immediately. However, these changes don't stick for very well because, as soon as you get up, you go back to your old movement patterns and normal habits, and so the tension will wind back up again. It is through repetition, consistency and patience that you will start to notice longer and longer periods of pain-free (or reduced pain) time, but don't expect miracles. This isn't a quick fix, this is true healing. It's also super important to STOP avoidable activities that aggravate your pain ... posture doesn't happen in a vacuum and if you're expecting to carry on running/gymming/whatever-ing whilst your body is screaming at you not to, even if you're doing 30 mins of posture a day, you won't make progress. You've got to take a step back sometimes in order to move forwards.Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Change happens quickly (when you're on the right track)
In this episode, Posture Ellie dives into her 6th Posture Commandment: 'change happens quickly (when you're on the right track)'. Because so many more conventional methods of reducing pain are so symptom-driven (not root cause driven), change doesn't really happen. This warps many people's expectations of how QUICKLY change CAN happen, when you're doing the right thing and finding the root causes. Your body will tell you immediately if it likes what you're doing, so find what it wants you to do (and stop focusing on the bits that hurt or ache). If your pain isn't changing, you're not on the right track .... so change your track until the pain changes!Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Don't symptom chase, find the root cause
In this episode, Posture Ellie (tries) to spell out the KEY differential between posture therapy and most conventional methods of reducing pain: symptom chasing is a waste of time and stops us from healing. Most conventional methods treat pain as if the pain (or area of pain) is the problem. Posture Therapy sees pain (or an area of pain) as a cry for help, but not the problem itself. When you can rewire your understanding of this, your whole approach to reducing your pain will vastly change. You'll realise that wiggling your hand might be the thing that fixes your herniated discs!'Pain Free' by Pete Egoscue is the book I mention and this will really help you get to grips with your posture and your pain.Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Don't force anything (& learning boundaries)
In this episode, Posture Ellie delves into Posture Commandment No. 4, 'Don't force anything'. Learning not to force, yank, crank or push your body to do things it doesn't want to do, is one of the quickest ways to learn how to respect your body's wisdom and is the basis behind yoga's famous phrase, 'sthira sukham asanam'. This is all about your finding your edge and encouraging challenge, but having the wherewithal when needed. Posture Ellie believes that learning boundaries and respect for yourself in this way during your movement practice, leads to wider psychological changes in learning boundaries and respect for yourself when dealing with other people.Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Maintain a calm breath, always
In this episode, Ellie touches upon (just the surface of) how important the breath is and why it's integral to well executed posture exercises. The breath is both a symptom of and remedy to nervous system dysregulation. Many people are chronically breath-holding whilst under stress and many people are chronically mouth and/or over breathing whilst under stress. We don't want our posture exercises to be more stressful for our body and nervous system, and we need to use the breath as a tool to create calm, grounded energy which brings the body into ease and alignment. The book I mention is Breath by James Nestor. Hard work is intense, but not pain
When starting out with posture, one of the hardest things to identify is the differences between 'bad pain' and 'good pain'. Whilst I disagree that any pain is 'good pain' (all pain is merely a warning signal that something is wrong), many clients will use 'good pain' to describe hard work. Hard work is exactly what we want for your body as you move through the posture journey, as you begin to remould and change how it levers itself around. Hard work feels weird, intense and, often, not comfortable ... but it's different to pain!Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

Pain is your guide, respect it
In this episode, Posture Ellie talks you through the first of her '10 Posture Commandments' and that is that pain is to be respected, listen to it, don't ignore it. So many people are only offered solutions that involve pain suppression (medication, surgical interventions, avoiding movement etc), which doesn't get to the root cause of the issue. Pain is a message from your body begging you to stop what you are doing and change something. If you hide from pain, you're never tackling the actual cause of the pain ... and the problem grumbles on in the background, getting worse and worse the longer it's ignored. Pain always has a cause, but the cause may lurk in a place you don't expect. If your pain isn't changing (without methods of pain suppression), you haven't yet discovered the cause of it.Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

How to find and keep motivation
We have busy lives and often looking after ourselves comes right at the bottom of the pecking order. Many people really struggle to maintain a regular routine which helps promote self-care, self-love and confidence. Posture can be one of these crucial tools to help reduce pain and feel great about ourselves and, in this episode, Posture Ellie helps give you the run-down on how she thinks is best to stay motivated and keep up the good work.Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

What is Posture Therapy?
In this episode, Posture Ellie discusses what posture therapy is all about. Postural Alignment Therapy / The Egoscue Method / Posture Therapy is a modality that many people haven't heard of and, without trying it yourself, can be hard to articulate how it differs from yoga, Pilates, physio, osteopaths or chiropractors. I hope this episode gets you clearer on why posture therapy is SO helpful for every body (no one is above needing it!) and why it's different (and more effective) than anything else you'll have tried before.Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

What is Posture?
In this episode, Posture Ellie discusses what we mean when we say 'posture'. Contrary to popular belief, it's NOT about yanking your shoulders back and thrusting your chest upwards. Posture is your movement patterns, your state of being and how you show up to everything that you do. You can't create good posture through sitting still or holding yourself with artificial rigidity in certain places, both these things only create more tension and dysfunction. She debunks 'posture' gimmicks (like back braces, lumbar support and expensive ergonomic chairs) and walks us through the four main causes of postural pains.Katy Bowman podcast 'Is Posture a Thing?' - https://www.nutritiousmovement.com/articles/is-posture-a-thing-podcast-episode-173Exercised by Daniel Lieberman was a book I used for a lot of my references/information in my own book.Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY

The Posture Ellie Story
In the first 'proper' episode of Posture-lating, Posture Ellie talks you through how she came to create her business; from a childhood of inconsistent movement and weight fluctuations, to a turbulent young adulthood of disconnection, despair and depression, to finding a love for yoga which finally concreted a consistent movement practice, to the mindset changes that slowly occurred from finding a consistent movement practice and the business that eventually emerged from those crucial mindset changes. Movement does not just change your body, it changes your brain and your whole outlook on life.I mention the 'Pain Free' by Pete Egoscue book in this podcast (and highly recommend reading) and it is The Egoscue Method I am trained in (aka posture therapy or postural alignment therapy).Other Info- Pre-order my book ‘Posture Power’ - https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/posture-power- Start your one month free trial of The Posture Squad - https://posture-ellie.com/the-posture-squadWebsite - posture-ellie.comYouTube & Socials - @postureellieCredits for Intro theme: Life is Good 2 by Beat Mekanik, Source: Free Music Archive, License Type: CC BY
