Therapy can be affordable
Episode Notes Therapy doesn't have to break the bank — and one option most people overlook is working with a student therapist. They're training under licensed supervisors, bringing fresh knowledge and hands-on guidance to every session. At Resolve, sessions start at just $30 CAD. You're basically getting the student *and* their supervisor. If cost has been the barrier keeping you from support, this might be your way in. Check out www.resolvve.ca 💙 #OCD #MentalHealth #OCDAwareness #TherapyTips #Affordabletherapy Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. I am not a neutral therapist
Episode Notes Neutrality in therapy isn't always the most therapeutic thing. There's a version of the therapist who sits behind a poker face no matter what — and sometimes that's exactly right. But sometimes the most healing thing I can do is let you feel that I actually care. That I'm invested. That there's a real human across from you who has something at stake in your growth. I'm not here to debate your politics or your theology. Those aren't mine to challenge. But if something you're doing is quietly working against you — against the life you actually want — I'm going to say something. Gently, directly, however the moment calls for. Because that's the job. Compassion isn't just warmth. It's also the willingness to hold a mirror up, to ask the harder question, to trust that you can handle being seen — really seen — and still feel safe. Client-centered means I'm in service of your growth. Not my comfort. Not some clinical ideal of detachment. Yours. And sometimes that means being very, very still. And sometimes it means showing up with everything I've got. #personalgrowth #Therapy #Mentalhealth #Psychotherapy #Therapist Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. Therapy is incredible...
Episode Notes **Every Breath Is a Gift** Your soul is always with you. Your breath is always with you. In Hebrew, the word for soul — *neshama* — and the word for breath — *neshima* — share the same letters. That's not a coincidence. That's Torah. When you come back to your breath, you're not just doing mindfulness. You're touching your soul. You're feeling the presence of God, who breathed life into you at the very beginning — and is breathing into you right now. Slow breath or fast breath. Conscious or subconscious. Doesn't matter. Every single one is a gift. כָּל הַנְּשָׁמָה תְּהַלֵּל יָהּ הַלְלוּיָהּ *With every breath, with every part of my soul — I will praise God.* (Tehillim 150:6) That's the meditation. Come to your breath. Come to your *neshama*. And feel it as love — God breathing into you in this very moment. #Judaism #Mindfulness #JewishMeditation #Neshama #Soul Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. ERP does not need to move so slow
Episode Notes ERP does not need to move so slow…ERP doesn't always need to move at a snail's pace — and sometimes going too slow actually reinforces the very avoidance it's trying to treat. 🧠 There's a difference between a therapist carefully discerning what a client can handle, and a client's OCD convincing them that bigger steps aren't possible. Don't let the exposure ladder become its own avoidance strategy. You can handle more than OCD is telling you. 💙 #OCD #MentalHealth #OCDAwareness #OCDTherapy #ERPTherapy Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. Ending therapy sessions can be quite tricky...
Episode Notes __ Ending therapy sessions on time is harder than it sounds 🕐 __ As a therapist, I struggle with it too. It's the same dynamic I work on with my clients — setting boundaries, saying no even when you're worried about the other person's reaction. __ When I let a session run over, I tell myself the client will feel more validated. The truth? It's my own discomfort I'm managing. __ Two things that helped: __ Start on time. One minute late and I'm compensating with four extra. __ At 45 minutes, say it out loud: "We're coming to the end — anything we need to make sure we cover?" Note it, open with it next session. Nothing gets lost. __ End on time. You'll feel less resentful, you'll model boundaries for your clients, and you'll have space to breathe. __ Our clients have work to do. So do we. __ #Therapy #MentalHealth #Boundaries #Therapist #PsychotherapyDisclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. What makes a good therapist?
Episode Notes If I’m even the tiniest bit of a good therapist, here’s why. Yes, training matters. Supervision matters. Skill matters. The therapeutic relationship matters. But the real secret is that I genuinely believe in my clients. I believe in who they are beneath the fear, beneath the symptoms, beneath the stuckness. That doesn’t mean I’m unrealistic. I challenge people. I push. I confront avoidance. But underneath all of it is a deep belief that they are capable of more than they think. And honestly, people feel that. Sometimes somebody needs another person to believe in them before they can begin believing in themselves again. That changes things. #Therapy #MentalHealth #Psychotherapy #Therapist #Psychotherapy Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. Is thought stopping a good strategy for OCD?
Episode Notes "Stop thinking about it" gets a bad rap in OCD circles — and rightfully so when people mean it as thought stopping, because that's impossible. But there's a distinction worth making. You can't prevent a thought from appearing, but you absolutely can direct your conscious attention elsewhere. That's thinking stopping — and that's actually one of the most powerful tools you have. OCD is the distraction. Everything else is your life. 💙 __ #OCD #MentalHealth #OCDAwareness #OCDRecovery #OCDTherapy __ Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. Let's talk about FOMO
Episode Notes FOMO OCD is sneakier than it looks. 🧠 That urgent feeling that *this* moment is the one you can't miss? That's OCD talking, not life. Every beautiful moment doesn't have to be seized with urgency to count. Slow down, notice the pressure, and trust that there will be many more. 💙 #OCD #MentalHealth #OCDAwareness #OCDRecovery #MindfulnessAndOCD Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. If you have OCD, here is your sign…
Episode Notes __ Stop looking for signs — that IS the sign. 🛑🧠 OCD loves to turn clocks, numbers and coincidences into urgent messages that need fixing. But sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is let 4:32 just be 4:32. Keep going. 💙 __ #OCDRecovery #OCDAwareness #Scrupulosity #OCD#MentalHealth Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. Here is a way to boost OCD treatment
Episode Notes Therapy and medication are essential for OCD recovery — but leaning on a higher power can be a powerful complement to your treatment. 🙏 Whether you call it God or the universe, that loving force wants you to heal. Pray not as a compulsion, but from the heart — for strength, for healing, for connection. You're human. You're allowed to lean on something greater than yourself. That's not weakness, that's wisdom. 💙 #OCD #Faith #Spirituality #OCDtreatment #mentalhealth Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. You do not have to listen to your thoughts
Episode Notes Your thoughts after an exposure don't have to control you. 🧠 One of the biggest fears people have about ERP is getting stuck in a spiral of rumination afterward — but here's the truth: *that's part of the exposure.* Anticipate what your brain will throw at you, let the thoughts come up, and don't engage. Easier said than done — but that IS the work. Redirect your attention, do something else, and disengage from the story your mind is telling you. 💙 How do you deal with thoughts that come up after an exposure? It's not enough to do exposures in OCD Therapy
Episode Notes Exposures alone aren't enough in OCD therapy — the *response prevention* part is where the real magic happens. ✨ ERP teaches you that you can handle the discomfort without undoing it after. As on OCD therapist, here is my favorite OCD book...
Episode Notes As an OCD therapist, here’s my favorite book on OCD. There are a lot of great resources out there, but Getting Over OCD by Dr. Jonathan Abramowitz is the one I keep coming back to. It covers the full picture. Cognitive work, challenging the beliefs underneath OCD. ERP, actually facing fears and reducing avoidance. And it brings in acceptance and values based work in a way that gives the process real depth. It’s practical, structured, and also flexible. It helps you not just fight OCD, but build a life that matters. There are also great companion books for families and newer work on living well with OCD. Of course, working with a therapist is powerful. But even as a resource, this one stands out. If you have other books you love, let me know. #OCDRecovery #ERP #MentalHealth #OCDBooks #Anxiety Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. For those in OCD therapy...
Episode Notes For those in OCD therapy, here’s one way to go stronger. Tell someone you trust what you’re working on. The exposures, the commitments, the goals. It builds accountability. It helps you stay grounded when OCD tries to pull you back into your head. You don’t have to do this alone. Let someone in, in a simple and intentional way. That support can make a real difference. #OCDRecovery #ERP #MentalHealth #Accountability #Support Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy. Internet compulsions are tough
Episode Notes Internet compulsions are one of the hardest parts of OCD today. Research compulsions are everywhere. Reddit threads. Google searches. AI chats. Endless “just one more check” loops looking for certainty or reassurance. And there’s an added difficulty. The internet itself is highly addictive and difficult to regulate even without OCD. That’s why response prevention here sometimes needs more than willpower. Assistive technologies that block apps or websites on schedules can give people real space to build skills and break compulsive habits. Just like glasses help someone see, tools can help people practice the inner work of resisting compulsions. Therapists should be talking about this more and even learning these tools themselves. Curious what people think. #OCD #ERPtherapy #MentalHealth #OCDrecovery #AnxietySupport Disclaimer: This Podcast and all of our mental health learning and educational content is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy.
