How Do You Reparent Yourself After Sexual Trauma? Shadow Work for Neurodivergent Women
What if the healing you’ve been waiting for has been waiting for YOU to show up first? In this episode of The Awakened Heart, Autumn Moran, LPC, takes you into one of the most tender and transformative parts of trauma recovery: shadow work and reparenting. Not the Instagram version. The real version - where you become the adult who finally shows up for your younger self with protection, validation, softness, and real boundaries. If you’re a late diagnosed neurodivergent woman healing from trauma, there are parts of you that have been waiting a long time to be chosen. This episode is for them.-----**IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN:**- What reparenting actually is (and why it’s not self-pity or blame)- Why your anger has been hiding as resentment, depression, or numbness - and what to do with it- How to choose yourself daily through boundaries where no genuinely means no- How to shift your inner critic into a steady, compassionate inner advocate- Why reclaiming play and joy - with zero productivity attached - is essential to healing- The go-bag principle: how to support your neurodivergent nervous system the way a good caregiver would- How journaling gives language to unmet needs and wounded younger parts- Why body movement for pleasure (not punishment) rewires your relationship with yourself- How small acts of follow-through build real self-confidence over time- What Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is and how it reframes the survival beliefs formed in childhood**THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU IF:**- You’re a late diagnosed woman with ADHD, autism, or AuDHD healing from sexual trauma- You’ve experienced childhood trauma, sexual trauma, or complex PTSD- You’re tired of waiting for someone else to choose you and are ready to choose yourself- You struggle with anger, resentment, or a harsh inner critic- You want real, practical tools for inner child healing and self-reparenting- You’re a neurodivergent woman looking for trauma-informed support that actually gets it**WHAT IS REPARENTING?**Reparenting is becoming the parent you needed and didn’t fully have. It’s the adult you - the one who has done the work, who has the awareness, who is choosing healing - going back to the younger versions of yourself with what they needed.Protection. Validation. Gentleness. Boundaries. Play. Joy. The experience of being chosen. You are not broken. You were not failed because you were unworthy. You were failed because the adults around you were limited by their own wounds. And now you get to do something radical: show up for yourself the way they couldn’t.That’s reparenting. And it changes everything.**THE GO-BAG PRINCIPLE:**We are like toddlers. We always need a go-bag.Think about what you pack for a toddler: snacks, comfort items, something to keep their hands busy, something familiar. Your neurodivergent nervous system needs the same things everywhere you go.Your sensory comfort items. Your snacks. Your fidgets. Your plan for when things get overwhelming. You’re not being high maintenance. You’re being the attentive, loving caregiver your inner child never had.**WORK WITH AUTUMN:**Ready to do this work with support?Autumn offers trauma-informed therapy for women navigating:- Complex trauma and CPTSD- Late diagnosed ADHD or autism (AuDHD)- Sexual trauma recovery- Nervous system dysregulation- Relational pattern healing and breaking cycles**Therapy is available for Texas residents.****Coaching is available anywhere in the world.**👉 Book your free 15-minute consultation: <http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHub>-----**GOOD MUSIC FOR HEALING:**🎵 Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music): <https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885j>Music that holds you while you do the work.-----**ABOUT AUTUMN MORAN:**Autumn Moran is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, certified life coach, and 500-hour trained yoga instructor specializing in trauma recovery, late diagnosis, and neurodivergent women’s healing. You Don’t Need to Be Fixed to Be Worthy: Healing from Sexual Trauma
You were never broken. But somewhere along the way - through trauma, through a late diagnosis that came decades too late, through adults who failed you and systems that weren’t built for your brain - you learned to believe you were. This episode challenges that belief directly. Because the life you’ve been waiting to live? You don’t have to be fixed before you’re allowed to have it.In this episode of The Awakened Heart, Autumn Moran LPC unpacks the difference between healing and fixing, why worthiness was never something you had to earn, and how to stop postponing your own life while you wait to become someone you already are.**IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN:**- Where the “I am broken” story actually came from - and why it was never true- How neurodivergence gets mislabeled as a problem to overcome instead of a different way of being- Why your trauma responses are evidence of survival not defect- The real difference between healing and fixing (and why it matters)- What actual self-care looks like versus performing self-care for an audience- Why worthiness is inherent - not something you earn through milestones or healing progress- The waiting trap: why postponing your life is one of the most costly things you can do- How to get real with yourself without cruelty or self-bullying- What it actually means to become your own best friend- How to make the hard choices in relationships, work, and identity that your life is asking for**THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU IF:**- You’re a late diagnosed woman with ADHD, autism, or AuDHD who has spent years feeling like something is wrong with you- You’re healing from sexual trauma and keep waiting to feel “ready” or “fixed” before you start living- You struggle with self-worth and find yourself earning rather than inheriting your own worthiness- You’re a neurodivergent woman who has been told your whole life that your brain is a problem- You’re ready to stop waiting and start building the life you actually want- You want trauma-informed support that understands the intersection of neurodivergence and trauma**YOU WERE NEVER BROKEN:**Broken people hurt you. Failed systems failed you. Adults who were too wounded themselves to love you well let you down. But you? You adapted. You survived. You developed responses that made perfect sense given what you were living through.Your trauma responses are not defects. Your neurodivergent brain is not a disorder to be overcome. Your difficult path is not evidence of your unworthiness. It is evidence of what you carried. Without the support you deserved. And you are still here. That is not broken. That is extraordinary.**THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEALING AND FIXING:**Fixing implies something is wrong with the fundamental thing. That you are defective and need repair before you qualify for a good life.Healing implies the fundamental thing is intact - and has been through something. And is finding its way back. You are not a broken object. You are a whole person who has been through things. And you are allowed to start living your whole life right now. Not after you’ve healed enough. Not after you’ve fixed enough. Now.**WORK WITH AUTUMN:**Ready to stop waiting and start living with support?Autumn offers trauma-informed services for women navigating:- Complex trauma and CPTSD- Late diagnosed ADHD or autism (AuDHD)- Sexual trauma recovery- Nervous system dysregulation- Relational pattern healing and breaking cycles**Therapy is available for Texas residents.****Coaching is available anywhere in the world.**👉 Book your free 15-minute consultation: <http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHub>**GOOD MUSIC FOR HEALING:**🎵 Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music): <https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885j>Music that holds you while you do the work.**ABOUT AUTUMN MORAN:**Autumn Moran is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, certified life coach, and 500-hour trained yoga instructor specializing in trauma recovery, late diagnosis, and neurodivergent women’s healing. Your Nervous System Is the Eternal Flame: Burnout Recovery for Neurodivergent Trauma Survivors | Brigid Part 2
Your nervous system is not a machine built for maximum output. It’s a flame. And flames need tending. In this episode of The Awakened Heart, Autumn Moran LPC uses Brigid’s eternal flame - the sacred fire kept burning for centuries through consistent, intentional care - as a direct metaphor for your nervous system. Because the same thing that kept Brigid’s flame alive for thousands of years is what will keep you from burning out: not intensity, not willpower, not pushing through. Tending. If you’re a neurodivergent woman healing from sexual trauma who has been running on fumes, performing okay-ness, and waiting until crisis to rest - this episode is your permission slip to stop.**IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN:**- Why your nervous system is Brigid’s eternal flame and what that means for how you care for yourself- What neurodivergent burnout actually looks like when you’re pushing for maximum output- How to choose compromise over all-or-nothing thinking when your capacity is low- How Brigid’s three flames - healer, poet, and smith - map onto different burnout styles and what each one needs- What real rest actually is versus rest performed for an audience- How to build a sustainable tending practice using warning signs, non-negotiables, a compromise toolkit, your natural rhythm, and daily flame check-ins- Why slow mornings are nervous system medicine for neurodivergent women- How to tend your flame consistently without waiting until you’re completely burned out**THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU IF:**- You’re a late diagnosed woman with ADHD, autism, or AuDHD experiencing burnout- You keep pushing past your capacity and crashing repeatedly- Rest feels impossible, guilty, or like something you have to earn- You’re healing from sexual trauma and your nervous system is running on chronic high alert- You’re a neurodivergent woman who needs permission to slow down without feeling like you’re failing- You want practical, real tools for nervous system regulation that actually fit your life**BRIGID’S ETERNAL FLAME:**At Kildare in ancient Ireland, a sacred flame burned continuously for centuries. Not because it was left to burn however it wanted. Because it was tended. Returned to. Fed what it needed. Protected from what would put it out. That’s the model for your nervous system in Rebirth Season. Not the consuming fire of Rage Season. Not maximum intensity until you crash. The tended flame. Burning sustainably. Continuously. Consistently. You are not the flame. You are the tender. And tenders rest so they can return.**THE THREE BURNOUT STYLES:****Healing Flame Burnout:**You’ve been giving endlessly to others with nothing left for yourself. You need to receive as well as give.**Poet’s Flame Burnout:**Your creative voice has gone quiet. Everything feels like obligation not inspiration. You need to fill the well before you can pour from it.**Smith’s Flame Burnout:**You’ve been forging through fire for too long without rest. The building feels heavy and joyless. You need to step back from the forge.Which one is yours right now?**WHAT REAL REST ACTUALLY IS:**Real rest is not productive rest. It’s not the rest you do while also accomplishing something.Real rest is your safe shows. Your comfy spot. Your body moving in ways that feel good. Your morning that belongs to you before it belongs to anyone else. Your phone on silent. Permission to stop - without the internal voice that says you should be doing something.Real rest is you, actually, just being. Without agenda. Without output. Without justification. That’s what tends the flame. That’s what makes the continuous burn possible.**WORK WITH AUTUMN:**Ready to tend your nervous system with real support?Autumn offers trauma-informed services for women navigating:- Complex trauma and CPTSD- Late diagnosed ADHD or autism (AuDHD)- Sexual trauma recovery- Nervous system dysregulation- Burnout recovery for neurodivergent women**Therapy is available for Texas residents.****Coaching is available anywhere in the world.**👉 Book your free 15-minute consultation: <http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHub>**GOOD MUSIC FOR HEALING:**🎵 Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music): <https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885j>Music that holds you while you tend your flame.**ABOUT AUTUMN MORAN:**Autumn Moran is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, certified life coach, and 500-hour trained yoga instructor specializing in trauma recovery, late diagnosis, and neurodivergent women’s healing. ADHD and Trauma: Why Nervous System Dysregulation Is Evidence of Wisdom Not Weakness
If calm has always felt out of reach - if your nervous system runs hot, your emotions run deep, and rest never quite restores you - there’s a reason. And it’s not because something is wrong with you.In this episode of The Awakened Heart, Autumn Moran LPC names the real reason calm can feel impossible after sexual trauma, chronic stress, and neurodivergence - and reframes everything you’ve been told about dysregulation. Because your nervous system isn’t broken. It’s brilliant. It learned exactly what it needed to learn to keep you alive. And understanding that changes everything about how you heal.**IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN:**- Why nervous system dysregulation is a brilliant survival response not a personal failing- The basics of sympathetic vs parasympathetic nervous system and what safety actually feels like in your body- How to recognize the signs of long-term survival mode - vigilance, insomnia, scrolling, burnout, never fully resting- Why neurodivergent nervous systems carry a higher load and process more input than average - and what that costs- How emotional intensity is actually depth, empathy, and advocacy fuel rather than a liability- Why hypervigilance is high-speed pattern recognition that needs recalibration not elimination- Practical ways to build safety in your nervous system without forcing yourself to be someone you’re not**THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU IF:**- You’re a late diagnosed woman with ADHD, autism, or AuDHD who has never felt truly calm- You’ve experienced sexual trauma or complex trauma and your nervous system stays on high alert- You’ve been told you’re too sensitive, too reactive, too emotional - and you’re ready to reframe that- You’re a neurodivergent woman who wants to understand why rest doesn’t restore you the way it should- You’re healing from chronic stress and survival mode and want practical tools that actually fit your brain- You want trauma-informed support that understands the intersection of neurodivergence and trauma**WHY CALM FEELS OUT OF REACH:**Your nervous system learned to stay activated because activation kept you safe. In chronically unsafe environments - childhood trauma, sexual abuse, unpredictable relationships, a world that wasn’t built for your neurodivergent brain - staying on alert was the smartest possible response. The problem isn’t that your nervous system is broken. The problem is that it never got the signal that the immediate danger has passed. And so it keeps running the survival program. Even when you’re safe. Even when you’re trying to rest. Even when you desperately want to calm down. That’s not weakness. That’s loyalty. Your nervous system is still trying to protect you.The work isn’t to eliminate that response. It’s to help your nervous system learn - slowly, gently, over time - that safety is now possible.**DYSREGULATION AS INTELLIGENT ADAPTATION:**Every symptom of dysregulation that’s been labeled a problem is actually evidence of intelligence:**Hypervigilance** = Pattern recognition running at high speed. You notice what others miss. You read rooms, people, and situations with extraordinary accuracy. That’s not anxiety. That’s precision perception.**Emotional intensity** = Depth of feeling. Capacity for empathy. The fuel behind advocacy, creativity, and genuine connection. That’s not too much. That’s your greatest asset.**Difficulty resting** = A nervous system that learned safety is temporary and rest is a vulnerability. That’s not laziness. That’s a system that protected you when protection was necessary.None of this needs to be fixed. It needs to be understood. And then gently, over time, recalibrated.**EPISODES MENTIONED:**🎙️ Late Diagnosis Series: What the First Year Post-Diagnosis Really Feels Like and How to Move Through It<https://www.buzzsprout.com/2467345/episodes/18461925-late-diagnosis-series-what-the-first-year-post-diagnosis-really-feels-like-and-how-to-move-through-it>🎙️ Bonus Episode: Honoring Brigid the Triple Flame - Healer, Poet, Smith<https://www.buzzsprout.com/2467345/episodes/19471751-bonus-epi-honoring-brigid-the-triple-flame-healer-poet-smith>**WORK WITH AUTUMN:**Ready to understand and heal your nervous system with real support?Autumn offers trauma-informed services for women navigating:- Complex trauma and CPTSD- Late diagnosed ADHD or autism (AuDHD)- Sexual trauma recovery- Nervous system dysregulation- Chronic survival mode and burnout recovery**Therapy is available for Texas residents.****Coaching is available anywhere in the world.**👉 Book your free 15-minute consultation: <http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHub>**GOOD MUSIC FOR HEALING:**🎵 Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music): <https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885j>Music that holds you while your nervous system learns to rest.**ABOUT AUTUMN MORAN:**Autumn Moran is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, certified life coach, and 500-hour trained yoga instructor specializing in trauma recovery, late diagnosis, and neurodivergent women’s healing. Not Being Believed After Sexual Trauma: The Rage of Silence and Reclaiming Your Truth | Neurodivergent Women
We name the deep wound of not being believed after sexual trauma, including the quiet cruelty of life continuing as if nothing happened. We talk about how family image, minimization, and forced secrecy shape rage, grief, and the long road back to trusting your own truth. • the “do nothing” response after disclosure as its own form of disbelief • how family culture teaches silence and punishes honesty • being believed but minimized and why it hurts so much • why abusers stay included while survivors do the healing work • neurodivergent women, credibility bias, and how autistic and ADHD communication gets misread • how gaslighting makes you doubt your memory and perception • reclaiming your story as yours to tell or not tell • practical ways to tell the truth safely through therapy, writing, or one trusted person • witnessing as a core ingredient of trauma healing, even years later Share it with someone that may need it. Shadow Work Tools for Sexual Trauma Healing: Practical Practices for Neurodivergent Women
We name shadow work for what it really is: turning toward the parts of us that went underground after trauma, especially the rage, grief, and shame that were never allowed to exist out loud. I share practical, trauma-informed tools for nervous system safety, journaling, repair in parenting, and transforming sacred rage into fuel for healing. • defining shadow work as integration, not darkness • how unprocessed rage shows up as anxiety, depression, pain, shutdown, hypervigilance • why the body’s freeze response is protection, not betrayal • using rage as directed energy for boundaries, growth, and self-care • parenting while healing, plus rupture and repair as a real practice • creating a safe container before going inward, including the GLOW steps • rage journaling to clear the surface, then asking what the anger protects • writing letters to rage to hear its message without self-editing • using tarot or oracle cards as a mirror for the unconscious • separating facts from shame stories to challenge “I’m the problem” thinking • building a morning ritual and using creativity to transform pain Work With Me IndividuallyI offer trauma-informed therapy for high-achieving women navigating:• Complex trauma• Late-diagnosed ADHD or autism• Nervous system dysregulation• Relational pattern healingIf you’d prefer one-on-one support, book a free 15-minute consultation here:http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHubGood Music for Healing🎵 **Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music):** https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885jEpisodes Mentioned in this EpisodeComparison Rage after Sexual Traumahttps://www.buzzsprout.com/2467345/episodes/19395493-comparison-rage-after-sexual-traumaYou’re not alone. Comparison Rage After Sexual Trauma: When Other People’s Normal Feels Like a Slap | Neurodivergent Women
I name comparison rage as the grief and fury that can sit underneath “I’m happy for them,” especially for trauma-experienced, neurodivergent women watching other lives look easy. I unpack where it shows up, why it makes sense in a survival-wired nervous system, and how to work with it without shame. • comparison rage as more than jealousy and why both love and rage can be true • how trauma and neurodivergence shape attachment, trust, and social fluency • support system gaps and why they are about starting conditions, not worth • relationship comparison and why calm can read as unsafe • body comfort after sexual trauma and the weight carried in the nervous system • career and workplace politics built for neurotypical brains • parenting while healing and the invisible labor of doing better • intimacy, touch, and the freeze response as survival wiring • medical system dismissal and the extra burden on neurodivergent women • practical tools: name it, journal it, grieve specifically, stop poking holes, build support on purpose Work With Me IndividuallyI offer trauma-informed therapy for high-achieving women navigating:• Complex trauma• Late-diagnosed ADHD or autism• Nervous system dysregulation• Relational pattern healingIf you’d prefer one-on-one support, book a free 15-minute consultation here:http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHubGood Music for Healing🎵 **Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music):** https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885jYou’re not alone. Lilith Part 2: When You’re Punished for Having Boundaries | Mythology and Trauma Healing for Neurodivergent Women
I pick up Lilith’s story after her flight and name the brutal truth many of us meet after we finally say no: the backlash can rewrite us into the villain. I connect demonization to the trauma freeze response, then share ways to stay anchored in reality, regulate your nervous system, and keep your wings anyway. • Lilith’s “no” followed by punishment and character assassination • how boundary-setting triggers smear campaigns, exclusion, and silence • the freeze response as protection and how backlash can reinforce it • systems and equilibrium, why compliance becomes “load-bearing” • grounding, co-regulation, and breathwork with longer exhalesWork With Me IndividuallyI offer trauma-informed therapy for high-achieving women navigating:• Complex trauma• Late-diagnosed ADHD or autism• Nervous system dysregulation• Relational pattern healingIf you’d prefer one-on-one support, book a free 15-minute consultation here:http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHubGood Music for Healing🎵 **Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music):** https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885jEpisodes Mentioned in this EpisodeBONUS EPI: Lilith And The Power of Nohttps://www.buzzsprout.com/2467345/episodes/19327346-bonus-epi-lilith-and-the-power-of-noYou’re not alone. Rage at Lost Years After Sexual Trauma: Reclaiming Your Time as a Neurodivergent Woman
We name the rage of sexual trauma stealing years of your life, not as an abstract idea but as missed safety, missed support, and a body that learned to freeze. I walk through why the freeze response persists even after you understand it, and how we can use that fury as fuel to reclaim today on our own timeline. • the specific rage of “shoulda couldas” and stolen time • childhood theft as survival training disguised as growing up • body ownership stolen through violation and chronic mishandling • double theft of sexual trauma plus unsupported neurodivergence • masking, success, and instability happening at the same time • social timelines as arbitrary rules that ignore development and trauma Work With Me IndividuallyI offer trauma-informed therapy for high-achieving women navigating:• Complex trauma• Late-diagnosed ADHD or autism• Nervous system dysregulation• Relational pattern healingSchedule your free 15-minute consultation here:http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHubGood Music for Healing🎵 **Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music):** https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885jEpisodes Mentioned in this EpisodeHonoring the Losses & Heaviness after Sexual Traumahttps://www.buzzsprout.com/2467345/episodes/19093408-honoring-the-losses-heaviness-after-sexual-traumaYou’re not alone. Lilith Part 1: Reclaiming Your No After Sexual Trauma | Boundaries and Autonomy for Neurodivergent Women
We link Lilith’s mythology to the lived reality of neurodivergent women and sexual trauma survivors whose needs get labeled as defiance. We show how reclaiming your no starts in the nervous system and becomes a practical path to boundaries, consent, and real healing. • Lilith’s origin story as a metaphor for autonomy and equality • demonization of women’s refusal and the “you can’t win” double bind • unmasking as an implicit refusal to perform neurotypical comfort • pathological demand avoidance as protection not a disorder Work With Me IndividuallyI offer trauma-informed therapy for high-achieving women navigating:• Complex trauma• Late-diagnosed ADHD or autism• Nervous system dysregulation• Relational pattern healingIf you’d prefer one-on-one support, book a free 15-minute consultation here:http://linktr.ee/EmpoweringWellnessHubGood Music for Healing🎵 **Divine Woman Playlist (Apple Music):** https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/divine-woman/pl.u-leyl096uMoD885jYou’re not alone.
