065: Proof Your Clients Will Spend More
Over Mother’s Day weekend, I forced my boys to watch The Devil Wears Prada with me… and somewhere between the marble countertops, Milan fashion houses, and casual “weekend at Lake Como” energy, I realized this movie perfectly explains luxury psychology. Because luxury buying behavior is not just about money. It’s about aspiration, belonging, identity, status, emotional experience, and the environments we’re invited into. In this episode, I’m unpacking:• Why humans are naturally wired to aspire upward• The psychology behind luxury buying behavior• Why people buy within the environment you create for them• How photographers accidentally cap their own revenue• Why trying to drastically raise your prices overnight will tank your business• The difference between simply charging more and creating a buying environment that supports higher spending• Why your current “budget clients” may actually be capable of spending far more than you realize I also share a real story involving two clients from the exact same affluent private school — one who thought nobody would ever spend $5K on senior photos… and another who spent $5,500 without blinking. Same level of wealth. Completely different buying environment. And honestly? That story alone might completely change how you think about pricing, luxury, and client psychology. If you’ve ever wondered how photographers create high-ticket sales without alienating their current clients… this episode is your proof. 064: Champagne Taste, Hold the Beer Budget
Luxury is not an all-white studio and a good logo. In part two of this luxury series, I’m diving into the thing photographers overlook the most when trying to attract higher-end clients: the client journey. Because luxury is rarely one big dramatic thing. It’s usually a thousand tiny details working together to make people feel taken care of. In this episode, we’re talking about: • Why affluent clients are really buying emotional certainty • The subtle details that increase perceived value • Hospitality, presentation, and why your energy matters more than you think • The difference between “expensive” and truly luxurious • Why some brands simply feel elevated from the very first interactionI’m also sharing the story behind the highest sale I’ve ever had inside of my studio… which happened right in the middle of recording this luxury series. Funny how that works. If you’ve ever wondered why some photographers feel instantly premium before you even inquire… this episode is going to connect a lot of dots. 063: Defining Luxury and Refining Your Portfolio
This episode came straight from a DM with a photographer who’s ready to move into a higher-end market but isn’t sure how to make that shift without losing her current clients. We’re breaking down what luxury actually means (hint: it’s not just a higher price tag), how to research your specific market instead of guessing, and why your client experience starts the moment someone inquires. But the real focus? Your portfolio. We’re talking about the difference between “good” images and images that reflect taste… how to study art in a way that actually translates to modern portrait photography… and what affluent clients are really noticing in your work. We also dive into curation—on your website and your Instagram—and how small inconsistencies, outdated content, or lack of intention can quietly shift perception. This is about refining, not adding. Because luxury isn’t louder… it’s more intentional. 062: Photography Blindness, Do you have it?
Do you remember that Febreze commercial with the teenage boys who couldn’t smell their own room? Yeah… that’s your marketing. In this episode, I’m calling out something that most photographers don’t even realize they’re doing… and it’s quietly killing your ability to book. You’ve been in this industry for so long that you’ve started filtering out the exact things that would make clients trust you. You’re posting what impresses other photographers… instead of what actually converts your clients. And the worst part? The thing that would make you stand out… is the exact thing you’ve stopped talking about. I’m breaking down: What “photography blindness” actually looks like in your content Why your marketing might all be starting to sound the same The subtle ways you’re accidentally making yourself look replaceable What your clients actually need to hear from you to trust you And how to shift your content so it builds authority instead of just getting likes This is one of those episodes that might sting a little… but once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And when you fix it? That’s when your marketing actually starts working. 061: Photo Pirate of the Caribbean
I just got back from the Dominican… and I accidentally walked straight into a live masterclass on sales psychology. We booked a private boat charter. It came with a photographer. And within five minutes… I knew exactly how this was going to go.What I didn’t expect? Was that this man — posing every couple the exact same way, running what most photographers would call a “cringey” shoot — would absolutely clean up in sales. And not by accident. In this episode, I break down everything I observed in real time:• The identical posing formula he used on every single couple (and why it didn’t hurt his sales)• The emotional manipulation tactic he saved specifically for the women — and why it worked• How he controlled the room without anyone realizing it• Why “better photography” does NOT equal more money• The subtle moments where he anchored value before anyone ever saw a price• And the biggest mistake photographers make when they rely on their work to do the selling This episode isn’t about judging his work. It’s about understanding human behavior. Because he wasn’t selling photos. He was selling emotion, urgency, and identity. And if you can’t do that… it doesn’t matter how good your work is. I realize this might be the most unhinged title I’ve ever written…But stay with me.Because once you understand why Ted Bundy was able to gain instant trust from people…You’re going to understand exactly what’s happening on your Instagram grid. And why it’s either working for you… or against you. 059: I’m Not a “Girl’s Girl”
I don’t want to be a “girl’s girl.” Because what I’ve seen—inside the photography industry and outside of it—is that this idea of “support” has gotten a little twisted. We’ve created spaces where the women around you blindly support, gas you up even if you're going down the wrong path and no one challenges each other to build. This mentality is where everything feels encouraging on the surface… but nothing is actually changing because we keep doing the same things over and over again without someone stopping us to hold up a mirror. That kind of environment will keep you stuck longer than anything else. In this episode, I’m sharing a really personal story from the beginning of my career—walking into rooms where I didn’t feel like I belonged, the pressure to fit into a mold that was never mine, and how stepping away from that completely changed the trajectory of my business. We’re talking about the difference between surface-level support and real support. The kind that calls you out. The kind that raises your standards. The kind that actually moves your life forward. And the kind of woman I’ve chosen to be… both in my business and in the rooms I build. If you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit… Or like you’re surrounded by noise but still not growing… This episode is going to hit. 058: From $50 Porch Sessions to $5K Sales (What Actually Happens Inside My Mastermind) with Elizabeth Dugan
Everyone loves to talk about growth after it happens. The glow-up.The big sales. The “I finally figured it out” moment. But what does it actually look like in the middle of it? This episode is a raw, unfiltered conversation with one of my mastermind clients, —and we’re pulling back the curtain on what really happens when you decide you’re done playing small in your business. Because Elizabeth didn’t come into this as some polished, luxury photographer. She came in shooting $50 porch sessions during COVID…Running hundreds of mini sessions…Working nonstop…Making money—but completely burnt out and stuck. And within months? She was closing $5,000+ sales.Rebuilding her entire business model. And finally creating a business (and life) that actually felt good. This episode is about what it actually takes to make that kind of shift. The fear. The resistance. The identity breakdown. And the moment you realize… you were always capable of more. If you’ve ever thought, “I know I’m meant for more, but I don’t know how to get there”—this one is going to hit. In this episode, I talk about: What it really looks like to run a “successful” business that’s quietly burning you out The truth about mini sessions, over-delivering, and why it keeps you stuck What happens when you raise your prices—and your clients don’t leave The mindset shift required to move from volume to high-value sales Behind the scenes of a first $5,600 sale (and why it wasn’t luck) How to transition your business without blowing everything up The unexpected ways your business growth impacts your marriage, family, and identity Why working less can actually make you more money (and give you your life back) Timestamps:00:00 Posers Podcast Intro00:36 Meet Elizabeth Dugan02:03 Her Success and Burnout04:30 Why This Episode Matters07:02 Mastermind Launch Context10:11 Elizabeth Before Mastermind10:26 COVID Origin Story15:32 Mini Session Grind19:10 Taking the Leap22:38 Creative Rebirth25:03 Cult Following and Hype27:11 Why IPS Felt Terrifying28:08 Breaking the Cheap Label29:52 The Wake Up Math31:05 Rebrand and First Reveal32:57 First IPS Sale Shock36:09 Clients Want More Service37:45 Confidence and Creative Freedom39:39 Ditching Minis for Good41:50 Money Mindset Reset43:35 Launch Method Wins46:00 Life and Marriage Shift48:05 Final Advice and Wrap 🔗 Connect with Jodi:📸 Website: https://www.j-annephotography.com📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/j.annephotography Love this kind of coaching?Make sure you’re on my newsletter list where I share the behind-the-scenes of launches, pricing, posing psychology, and what it really takes to scale a photography business with soul. 📣 Help Spread the Word!If you loved this episode, subscribe, rate, and review! 057: Why the Best Photographers Are Psychologists with Cameras with Lisa DiGeso
Most photographers think posing is about angles. Hands here. Chin there. Shift the weight. Smile. But the truth?None of that works if the psychology in the room is off. In this episode, I’m sharing a conversation from my appearance on The Art & Soul Show with Lisa DiGeso, where we dive deep into the thing that actually separates forgettable photographers from the ones clients obsess over. Leadership. Because when you walk into a photoshoot, you’re not just holding a camera. You’re controlling the emotional environment. And if you don’t understand the psychology happening between you and your client… you’ll spend your entire career trying to fix awkwardness with posing tricks. This conversation is about the real work. The leadership photographers forget they already have. The emotional intelligence required to create powerful portraits. And why the best photographers aren’t just artists… They’re psychologists with a camera. If you’ve ever wondered why some photographers effortlessly create connection while others struggle to get natural expressions—this episode will change the way you think about posing forever. In this episode, I talk about: Why posing has far less to do with body positioning than photographers think The psychology behind creating images clients feel emotionally connected to Why leadership—not friendliness—is what actually makes clients relax The biggest mistake photographers make when directing people during a shoot How emotional intelligence transforms the client experience Why unforgettable portraits start with the photographer’s energy, not their camera The mindset shift that turns photographers into true authorities Timestamps:00:00 Posers Podcast Intro00:35 Meet Jody Hendrix03:31 From Weddings to Studio05:50 Building Women’s Wealth07:00 Rebuilding After Divorce14:45 Why Women Shrink17:23 Showing Up Online21:39 Childhood Worth Stories26:03 Anxiety and Hormone Talk30:08 Reading Clients Fast33:52 Winning Over Dads36:19 Reading Client Energy36:42 Dads And Insecurity40:00 Posing Drives Business43:45 Posing Method Formula45:44 Capitalization And Brain Sync50:17 Initiate And Word Of Mouth51:47 Influence Versus Manipulation57:13 Photographer Confidence Gap01:03:04 Lightning Round Dating Era01:08:49 Music And Creative Curiosity01:11:56 Final Wrap And Signoff 🔗 Connect with Jodi:📸 Website: https://www.j-annephotography.com📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/j.annephotography Love this kind of coaching?Make sure you’re on my newsletter list where I share the behind-the-scenes of launches, pricing, posing psychology, and what it really takes to scale a photography business with soul. 📣 Help Spread the Word!If you loved this episode, subscribe, rate, and review! 056: The $400 vs $4,000 Photographer
Why does one photographer struggle to book a $400 session… while another photographer sells $4,000 shoots without sounding like they’re chasing clients? In this episode, I’m breaking down one of the biggest misconceptions in the photography industry: that pricing is determined by talent, gear, or editing style. It’s not. The real difference lives in perception. After studying luxury brands, behavioral psychology, and the strategies used by photographers at the top of this industry, I started to realize something that completely changed the way I run my business. The photographers commanding the highest prices aren’t necessarily doing more technically. They’re doing something very different with how they position themselves, how they control access, and how demand is created before their calendar ever opens. In this episode, I’m sharing the psychology behind perceived rarity, perceived demand, and why luxury brands operate very differently from the way most photographers market their work. If you’ve ever wondered why some photographers seem to sell every session they release while others post “Now booking” and hear crickets, this conversation will shift how you think about pricing, positioning, and the way your business shows up in the world. In this episode, I talk about: Why talent and equipment rarely determine who gets to charge higher prices What luxury brands understand about demand that most photographers miss The role perception plays in how clients value your work The subtle signals that make a photographer feel high-end without ever saying the word “luxury” Why constant availability can quietly undermine your positioning And if this conversation has you thinking differently about how photographers are building demand right now, I’m hosting a live Posers call happening March 31st. On that call, I’m pulling back the curtain on several strategies photographers are not talking about publicly right now… but are a huge part of building a successful business. 055: The 90’s Called, They Want Their Business Back
One year ago, on March 1, 2025, I hit publish on the very first episode of this podcast. I was terrified. I had never been consistent with long-form content. I had never committed to showing up every single week. I had never built something that required that level of accountability to a team and to you. And yet, here we are. One year later, this podcast has landed in the top 10% of all podcasts globally according to Listen Notes. If you are not familiar, Listen Notes is essentially the Google of podcasts. It is a widely used, reputable third-party search engine and database that assigns a “Listen Score” to estimate a show’s popularity compared to others around the world. Top 10%.Not because I went viral. Not because I gamed the system. But because I showed up consistently when it would have been easier to stay comfortable. In this episode, I reflect on what one year of uncomfortable consistency can build, and then I pivot into a question that has been sitting heavy on my heart. If you were building your business in 1995, would it survive? No Instagram. No Reels. No Canva. No email automations. No hiding behind curated grids and safe posting schedules.Just networking.Cold conversations.Referrals.Face-to-face rejection.Actual demand generation. Inspired by the recent Traitors finale and the strategic gameplay of Rob, we also talk about environment. He intentionally removed the biggest personalities and engineered a finale he could control. Which raises an uncomfortable question for entrepreneurs: If we follow the 80/20 rule of marketing, are you truly spending 80% of your time generating demand and growing your business? Or are you posting a few times a week, staying small, staying invisible, and wondering why bookings are slow? March 30th I will go deeper into what it actually takes to build a business that would have survived the 90’s and will still be standing long after today’s algorithms shift. Because if your business only works because Instagram exists, it is fragile. And fragile businesses break. 054: I Married a Sales Savage
Recorded straight from Turks and Caicos (yes, with a slightly sunburned forehead and a sunset cruise on deck), this episode of The Posers Podcast brings a very special guest into the studio… Mr. Hendricks himself! For the first time ever, a man enters the Poser space — and not just any man. A fully vetted, feminist, sales-genius husband who has ranked #1 or #2 globally in multiple companies and who can sell with both heart and heat. This episode is a candid, real-time conversation about sales — what it actually looks like behind the scenes when two sales-obsessed brains share a marriage and morning walks. We dive into: Why sales is sales — no matter the industry The two objections you will always face (and what they’re really about) How to proactively identify objections before they happen The “spouse objection” and how to neutralize it early Why asking questions is more powerful than making statements What the “croc brain” is and how to move clients out of fear Pattern interrupts and why they work The difference between price and cost Consequence-based questions vs desire-based questions Why selling with integrity is not “salesy” How emotional anchoring drives decisions And how to close without ever feeling gross If you’ve ever felt weird about selling…If you’ve ever worried about sounding pushy…If you’ve ever thought, “I just want to be an artist, not a salesperson”… This episode will reframe everything. 053: They’re Not Just Booking Your Photos. They’re Booking You
Every few months I bring someone on the podcast because I know you’re probably sick of hearing just my voice. And this one? She’s a treat. In this episode, I sit down with the one and only Alex Blake—senior photographer, content queen, and certified social media wizard. I’ve been quietly stalking her work for months (in the least serial-killer way possible), and I needed to get inside her brain. We’re talking about the kind of social media that doesn’t just look cute… it actually builds a cult following. The kind that turns lurkers into loyalists and clients into ride-or-dies. And trust me—we go there. From filming literally everything on her shoots… to photographing in a Wendy’s bathroom for a creative challenge… to sharing real-life heartbreak and pregnancy updates in real time… this conversation is about showing up boldly and letting people watch you build. Because that’s what creates connection. And connection is what creates demand. 052: A Sales Mistake That Cost Me Bookings
This episode is about a mistake I made after everything went right. I delivered a keynote to a room full of powerful, accomplished women. The energy was high. The conversation landed. I booked shoots on the spot. And then I quietly lost momentum in the days that followed. Not because I lacked confidence. Not because I didn’t know how to sell. But because of how I followed up. In this episode, I unpack the sales mistake that cost me bookings and why it’s one so many photographers make without realizing it. We talk about what happens when follow-ups become heavy, why being “helpful” can actually shut down decision-making, and how easily opportunity slips away after a strong in-person moment. I also walk through two real scenarios from photographers inside the mastermind. One about hosting in-studio events and turning community building into real bookings. Another about running collaborative giveaways and why attention without structure rarely converts. This episode is for photographers who are doing the hard parts right but still feel like momentum disappears afterward. If you’ve ever walked away from a great event, conversation, or collaboration and wondered why it didn’t turn into more bookings, this episode will shift how you think about sales and follow-up. 051: BRAIN ON FIRE
Yesterday was day one of the newest round of the Posers Mastermind — and I walked away from that call knowing, without question, that this is exactly the work I’m meant to be doing. I taught brand new material. Nothing recycled. Nothing I’ve ever shared publicly. And when the call ended, my DMs exploded with the same message over and over again:“I’ve never thought about marketing like this.”“My brain is on fire.”“How did I miss this for so long?” In this episode, I’m unpacking why day one hit so hard — without breaking the fourth wall or giving the methodology away. Because the truth is, this has nothing to do with tactics. It has everything to do with how I’ve always shown up in my business — long before Instagram stories, reels, carousels, or content calendars existed. I take you back to 2008. Before “personal branding.” Before social media strategy. Before photographers were taught to sound the same. We talk about how documenting real life — weddings, chaos, timelines, jumpsuits, divorce, rebuilding, fear, and growth — quietly built an ecosystem that scaled a business from $41K to multi–six figures without competing on price. This episode dives into:– Why building an audience is the same thing as building a client list– Why competition disappears when loyalty is strong– How the platforms change, but human psychology never does– The danger of the sea of sameness– And why conviction is what makes a business unshakeable This isn’t a how-to episode. It’s a perspective shift. If you’ve ever felt anxious about competition, unsure how to stand out without performing, or confused why doing “all the right things” still isn’t translating into demand — this one will land differently. And if you’ve been watching the mastermind from the outside thinking, “I should’ve joined,” the waitlist is open for future rounds. No pressure. No commitment. Just a place to raise your hand and say you want to understand this deeper. See you next week, Posers. 050: Intentional Discomfort
In this episode, I’m sharing a very honest look at what real growth has required of me as a business owner, and why staying comfortable has never been the thing that moved me forward. I talk about the reality of investing in education that feels intimidating, the experience of sitting in rooms where I’m still learning the language, and why some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned have come from spaces outside of the photography industry. We explore the importance of staying open-minded as you grow, how exposure to different perspectives can strengthen your business, and why learning doesn’t always come from places that feel familiar or immediately validating. I also break down a concept that deeply shifted the way I think about sustainability in photography: Lifetime Value of a Client versus Cost of Acquisition. Inside this conversation, you’ll hear about: • why a busy calendar doesn’t always equal a stable business • how understanding your numbers can reduce panic during slow seasons • why deepening client relationships often matters more than finding new ones • how small structural changes can create long-term resilience • what it means to build a business that supports both your life and your family This episode is for photographers who are curious about growing with intention, who want to make decisions based on clarity instead of urgency, and who are ready to think a little differently about what success can look like. If you find yourself nodding along as you listen, you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. The doors to The Mastermind close in two days, and this episode offers a glimpse into the kind of conversations we have inside that room. 049: THIS ISN'T IPS
This isn't IPS, it's her ugly step-sister that shows up for family dinners ready to start some shit. And if you’re running this pricing model, it’s likely costing you far more than simply dealing with a toxic family dinner. In this episode, I’m breaking down a pricing model that’s often labeled “IPS-ish,” “simpler,” or “more client-friendly,” and explaining why it quietly strips away the very things that make IPS work in the first place. On the surface, it looks modern and efficient. Underneath, it removes urgency, emotional momentum, and leadership at the exact moment your client needs it most. I share a real conversation with a client that stopped me in my tracks and perfectly illustrates what happens when photographers hand decision-making back to clients instead of guiding them through it. This is not about talent or effort. It’s about what happens when a system forces clients to choose alone, under restriction, and without context. We talk about the psychology behind how people actually make decisions, why emotion has to lead the buying process, and what goes wrong when logic is introduced too early. I also explain why galleries get abandoned, why clients freeze instead of finishing orders, and why this model feels easier but produces smaller, quieter results. This episode is not about shaming photographers. It’s about calling out bad education and raising the standard of what we teach as “luxury.” Because when a system fails this consistently, it’s not the photographers who are the problem. If you’ve ever felt capped even when your work is strong, or wondered why your pricing feels harder to sell than it should, this episode will connect dots you may not have realized were related. At the time I’m recording this, there are two spots left inside the POSERS Mastermind. If this conversation feels uncomfortably familiar, that’s not an accident. The link to apply is RIGHT HERE... or the link to the waitlist for the next round of the mastermind is RIGHT HERE. 048: This Education Failed Photographers
This episode is not a pricing conversation. It is a demand for better education. I am breaking down one of the most widely taught IPS pricing structures in the photography industry, the sliding-scale discount model, and explaining why it is actively undermining photographers while being sold as “luxury” and “value-based.” This model is not misunderstood. It is structurally unsound. And it is being taught without anyone running it through real luxury-buying psychology. In this episode, I dismantle the belief that discounting digitals incentivizes products. Using math, consumer psychology, and luxury brand behavior, I explain how this structure penalizes photographers for selling well, trains clients to shop for thresholds instead of value, and devalues the only irreplaceable asset in a photography business: the digital images. I address the damage done by labeling “digital-only” clients as a problem, when in reality the problem is a pricing system rooted in fear, people-pleasing, and outdated assumptions. Selling an entire gallery for a few hundred dollars is structural sabotage that guarantees income caps, resentment, and constant self-negotiation. I draw direct parallels between photography pricing and true luxury markets, referencing brands like Hermès and Dior to illustrate the difference between bargain psychology and investment psychology. I also break down the Veblen effect and use Chanel’s recent price increases to show how luxury brands protect their icons instead of discounting them. This episode reframes digital images as what they actually are: intellectual property, currency, and the foundation of a sustainable business. Physical products are not the hero. They are the expansion. When that hierarchy is reversed, the business eventually breaks. This is part one of a two-part series. Next week, I am breaking down a pricing system that is even more damaging than the sliding-scale discount model, and why continuing to ignore these foundations costs photographers far more than money. At the time I am recording this episode, there are two spots left inside the POSERS Mastermind. If this episode feels like I'm speaking straight to you, that is the point. 047: Faithful or Traitor
We’re kicking off the year by burning the planner, canceling the checklist, and telling the truth about why resolutions fail most people by March. In this episode, I unpack why goals often collapse under pressure, why doing more is rarely the answer, and why so many photographers build beautiful businesses that still quietly suffocate them. We talk about capacity. Nervous systems. The difference between decorating the box you’re in versus asking if the box is even big enough for the life you say you want. I share the metaphor that rearranged my brain this year, why my word for 2026 is expansion, and the uncomfortable reality that growth does not come from adding more habits, offers, or hustle. It comes from being willing to put something down. Time. Energy. Distractions. And yes, sometimes even Bravo. This episode is for the high-achieving woman who is already doing a lot, already trying hard, already successful on paper, but knows deep down that something is still capping her financially, creatively, or emotionally. If someone were watching a TV show of your life, what would they be screaming at the screen for you to change? That question alone might be the key to everything. No resolutions. No hustle sermons. Just an honest conversation about space, capacity, desire, and what it actually takes to expand into the life you keep saying you want. Welcome to the first episode of the year. Let’s make it count. 046: Rewind and Remind
Being bold is great, but what does it actually look like in action? Today, we are re-airing a juicy episode from March where we talked about the power of creating your own demand and stepping out of the red ocean of competition into a blue ocean where you’re completely unmatched. Most photographers struggle to stand out because they’re unknowingly blending in—offering the same styles, using the same marketing tactics, and getting stuck in the same price wars. But when you take control of your positioning, lean into what makes you different, and own your worth, you stop chasing clients and start attracting them. So, let’s talk about how to do that—practically, strategically, and without all the vague, fluffy advice that leads nowhere. In this episode, we cover:🔥 Why most photographers struggle to book their dream clients—and how to fix it🔥 The concept of red ocean vs. blue ocean and why competing is a trap🔥 A practical exercise to plot out your market positioning and uncover your unique advantage🔥 How to use pricing, niche, branding, and authority to create demand instead of chasing it🔥 The biggest mistakes that keep photographers stuck in the noise🔥 My personal journey of stepping out of the wedding industry and redefining my business🔥 A challenge for you: Identify your own blue ocean and make bold, strategic moves Timestamps:00:00 Welcome back! 045: The Purge
Before I touch a planner. Before I set a single goal. Before I decide who I’m going to be in 2026… I’m pausing. This episode isn’t about motivation or manifestation. It’s about purging and elimination. I’m closing out 2025 with my biggest revenue year ever — over half a million dollars — and I’m talking about the part no one glamorizes. The pressure of a massive Q4. The mental whiplash that comes with success. The moments where ambition quietly turned into overextension. This is a raw end-of-year reflection on what worked, what didn’t, and what I’m no longer willing to drag into a new year just because it helped me hit a number. Before January resolutions, I’m starting somewhere else:Elimination. What has to go before anything new can actually work? If you’ve ever ended a “successful” year feeling heavy…If you’ve hit goals and still felt unsettled…If you know something didn’t work but haven’t slowed down long enough to name it… This episode is for you. Because I don’t get to dream about 2026 until I purge what didn’t serve me in 2025. Welcome to The Purge. 044: Pretty Websites Don’t Convert
This episode starts with a dusty studio, a Facebook Marketplace obsession, and a table that required a full-body commitment and questionable parenting choices to acquire. But this isn’t a story about furniture. It’s about what happens when you intentionally design the spaces where decisions are made and money changes hands. Inside this episode, Jodi pulls back the curtain on what she’s been seeing after deeply auditing photographers’ websites and portfolios, not skimming, not scrolling, but experiencing them the way real clients do. What she found was consistent, costly, and quietly sabotaging bookings. She breaks down why most photographers are unknowingly building decision-making environments that create hesitation instead of trust, confusion instead of clarity, and chaos instead of confidence. From unclear positioning to bloated portfolios, overstimulating design, missing process, and the biggest red flag of all, no email capture or funnel. This conversation reframes your website as what it actually is: a business meeting that happens without you in the room. If your inquiries feel unpredictable, your pricing conversations feel heavy, or your bookings feel like luck instead of momentum, this episode will change how you see your brand, your site, and the environments you’re inviting clients into. This isn’t about trends. It’s about foundations. And building spaces that are ready to receive money. Press play. 043: You're Allowed To Pivot
This week’s episode opens with a moment I’ve had circled on my mental calendar all season: hitting two hundred and two thousand dollars in my fall schedule. It was one of those “holy shit, look what we did” moments paired with the immediate realization that strategy and psychology—not luck—got us here. From there, we dive into something every photographer needs to understand: the Sunken Cost Fallacy. It sounds academic, but trust me, it’s running half your business decisions without you even noticing. This pattern is the reason so many women stay loyal to pricing that hasn’t worked in years, systems that drain them, or marketing strategies they outgrew three rebrands ago. All because they “already invested in it.” Inside this episode, we unpack what the Sunken Cost Fallacy actually looks like in real life and how subtly it can keep your business capped at the same income year after year. And no, this isn’t a lecture. There are stories, examples, a little tough love, and a few moments that may feel uncomfortably accurate… in the best way. You’ll also get a look at what intentional pivoting looks like behind the scenes. Not burning your business down at 2 a.m. Not reinventing the wheel every season. Actual strategic shifts that open the door to more income, more clarity, and more authority. If you’ve been feeling the nudge that something in your business needs to evolve, but you’re not sure what, this episode is going to feel like someone finally naming the thing you couldn’t quite articulate. Consider it your sign. There are eight spots left for the next mastermind cohort. 042: Money Bags
This episode breaks down the moment I realized how much money I’ve been stepping over in my business without even noticing. When you stop operating like a photographer and start operating like a business owner, you begin to see every crack, every leak, and every missed opportunity that was right in front of you. I talk through two major examples from this month that made this painfully clear:How a $30K wedding pulled me out of retirement and confirmed how much I left on the table as a wedding photographer by not incorporating IPS into my process. How my PASS galleries brought in $4,492 this month without me doing anything, simply because the systems were already in place. I also share the ways I’m tightening my business for next year, including finally monetizing wardrobe styling and building affiliate income around the work I’m already doing. The message is simple: Once you see the money, you can’t unsee it. And once you start thinking like a CEO, you stop leaving it on the table. This episode starts with a dad who nearly broke me as a baby photographer…and ends with a different dad wrapping his arm around me saying,“There’s just something about you.”What happened in between? A transformation, happened... one that I've been living inside of for years. 039: Stop Being Affordable
Let’s just say it: being affordable isn’t a flex—it’s a trap. In this episode, I’m talking directly to the woman who keeps shrinking herself to be more “accessible,” “likable,” or “sweet”... and is secretly burnt the hell out. You’re underpaid, overbooked, and exhausted—and it’s not your talent that’s the problem. It’s the people-pleasing. We’re diving into how pricing isn’t just about money—it’s about nervous system conditioning, self-worth, and the lies we’ve been sold about what makes a “good” woman or business owner. This one is spicy and probably the most important episode I’ve ever recorded. 💥 If your business feels more like a treadmill than a calling—listen in. In This Episode:🔥 Why “being affordable” is actually a form of people-pleasing🔥 The Mormon grandma who taught me what not to do🔥 What discounting out of guilt really says about your self-trust🔥 The math (and mindset) behind what’s really keeping you broke🔥 The 5 sneaky ways people-pleasing shows up in your business🔥 What Glennon Doyle taught me about cages, wildness, and not betraying yourself🔥 The hard truth: clients aren’t loyal to your kindness—they’re loyal to your boundaries🔥 How to stop being the bargain-bin version of yourself and build a brand that demands respect This isn’t about raising your rates just to make more money. This is about raising your standards—because your daughters are watching. Your future is watching. And the world doesn’t need more sweet. It needs more sovereign. 038: Stop Blue-Balling Your Business: Foreplay Doesn’t Pay
You can have the prettiest brand, the most emotionally intelligent client experience, the most viral marketing in the world… But if you choke in the sales room? You’re cooked. This episode closes out The $200K Season series with the final lever in the system — the one that actually brings the money in: sales psychology. We’re talking about why photographers keep blue-balling their business by ramping up the foreplay of marketing and branding and then blowing it (no pun intended there) in the sales room... leaving you with a business that has the best images and greatest website, but you're not turning a profit. Inside this episode: The money mindset shift that you have to figure out Why sales confidence equals client trust and bigger sales The biggest mistake photographers make right at the beginning of the meeting The exact sales process you need The emotional psychology behind in-person sales You can flirt with your audience all day long, but until you actually learn to close…you’re just leaving your business frustrated and broke. 037: Swapping Shiplap for Saint Laurent: The Client Experience That Sells Itself
When I say your client experience is a lever in your business—I mean it’s the thing that takes you from "pretty pictures" to premium price points and a booked-out calendar. In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on the second lever behind my $200K Fall Challenge: the client experience. And not just the woo-woo version. I’m talking about the details, the systems, the delegation, and the ick-worthy moments that made me swear: never again. Like that one time a client showed up to a shoot in literal gym shorts. (Yes, really.) I also share: How I went from styling every client myself to bringing on a stylist (and what that changed) Why the right wardrobe is non-negotiable for brand elevation and client results What my new stylist Kenna did that made me say “Snoopy ears perked” How luxury lives in your details—and how to start there, even if you’re not full glamThe internal climb of chasing big goals, and why the mountain is me (and probably you too) If you’re serious about raising your rates, scaling with integrity, and getting OUT of the stylist-slash-CEO role, this one’s for you. 036: My Business EXPLODED Doing This
What do a sold-out Apple launch, a Dior capsule collection, and my fall photo calendar have in common? They don’t wait for people to show up. They train buyers to move fast—and they build real buzz before a single sale is made.In this episode, I’m breaking down how I stopped casually “opening my calendar” and started launching it like a product drop. I’m giving you the mindset shifts and the psychology-backed structure that helped me book out my calendar year after year—often in under 18 hours. I’m also telling the truth about that $200K Challenge update I flubbed (oops 😅), the real reason I don’t rely on SEO, and why “just blog more” is not the holy grail you’ve been sold. 👉 If you want your business to feel like a brand, not a scramble, this episode is your next move. Inside this episode:The 3 levers that make people move: Scarcity, Urgency, and FOMO How I built a 27-email launch runway that does the selling before the cart opensWhy the structure of your launch matters more than a cute reelWhat to do instead of waiting for SEO to magically deliver bookingsHow my mastermind clients booked out fall in 2 weeks (without a giant audience)And yes, the exact mindset that helped me go from wedding burnout to booked-out boss. It’s not magic. 035: A $200K Season and a Lampshade Made of Skin
If you've ever wanted to see how a wild income goal actually takes shape behind the scenes, this one's for you. In this episode, I’m sharing the unfiltered truth about my $200,000 fall challenge—how I came up with that number, how I’m reverse engineering every piece of my business to hit it, and why the real block isn’t strategy... it’s belief. Oh, and also… we talk about a serial killer. 😬 This one’s part financial strategy, part mindset reframe, part horror story—and all heart. Inside this episode: The real reason it’s so scary to say your goals out loud (especially for women) How past failure (like my divorce) made me fearless in business Why setting a huge money goal is the fastest path to evolution The launch system that helped me book 40 full shoots in 18 hours My tiny tweak to add $40K without adding more work How to reverse engineer your own “$200K season” (whatever your number is) I’m also calling out the mindset BS that’s keeping photographers undercharging and over-delivering—and showing you exactly how to shift it. Whether your big goal is $40K or $400K, the number doesn’t matter. What matters is declaring it—and then becoming the woman who makes it happen. 034: A Love Letter
This isn’t a strategy breakdown or a sales lesson. This is a love letter—from one photographer’s soft heart to another. I recorded this episode from bed, wrapped in sweats and sand after one of those magical shoots where everything aligns. The light, the energy, the connection... it was one of those rare moments that reminded me why I do what I do. And why how we make people feel is everything. There’s no outline here. No notes. Just me and my iPhone mic talking about the kind of night that makes you pause mid-shower, drop into gratitude, and grab your phone before the magic fades. Inside this episode:The trifecta of a perfect session (and why it’s rarely just about the photos)Why posing is never just about angles—it’s about psychology and trustThe moment a mom looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, “You’re the only person who’s ever gotten them to do that.”What it means to build a business that actually feels good to runThe heart behind The Posing Method and why it’s about so much more than looking pretty So if you’re feeling a little tired or wondering if this work really matters—this one’s for you. 033: Travel Sessions, Authority, and the Real Behind-the-Scenes
Let’s talk about how three families flew me across the country—and what actually made it worth it. Spoiler: it wasn’t ads, SEO, or some flashy funnel. It was authority. In this episode, I’m breaking down exactly how I booked, planned, and executed multiple travel sessions on the East Coast. I'm pulling back the curtain on the strategy, the scouting, the real financials (yes, I give you the numbers), and what it takes to create a client experience that’s so good, they’ll fly you in. Inside this episode:How I built demand outside my city without ever blogging or running adsThe actual planning process I use to shoot in unfamiliar cities (hint: it’s not sexy)What made me anxious—and how I handled it when the weather turned on meThe real cost of the trip, how much I made, and why it still made senseA reminder that authority isn’t luck—it’s built brick by brick If you're a photographer wondering how to expand beyond your local market or just need a dose of behind-the-scenes realness—you’re gonna want to hit play on this one. 032: The Sh*t Sandwich Theory
⚠️ Warning: this one might sting—but it might also be the thing that finally pushes you to build what you've been dreaming of building. Every photographer dreams about the fully booked calendar, the luxury brand, the $6k sales, and the freedom that comes with running a business on your own terms. But here’s the truth nobody wants to admit: every single dream you’re chasing comes with a price tag. And it’s not the pretty part. It’s the part that tastes bitter, feels relentless, and never makes it onto anyone’s Instagram feed. In this episode, I’m sharing the side of business that separates the ones who make it from the ones who burn out—the Sh*t Sandwich. You’ll hear why frustration isn’t an interruption to your business—it IS your business. And you’ll hear exactly how to know if the dream you’re chasing is worth what it actually costs. Inside this episode:The mastermind student who went from “cutesy mommy hobby” to a multi–six-figure luxury brand dripping with intention and edge. The fantasy every photographer builds in their head—and the brutal reality check of what it takes to live it.The real cost of $6k sales (and why most photographers quit before they ever get there). Why your images aren’t the thing holding you back—it’s your refusal to eat the sandwich that actually builds a brand. The simple, gut-check question I ask myself whenever I feel like quitting—and why the answer keeps me going. This episode will rearrange the way you see your business. Because success isn’t about how much you want the dream. It’s about whether you’re willing to eat the sandwich that comes with it. 031: Exposing the Biggest Lie
After six powerhouse weeks of interviews, it’s just you and me again today—and ohhh, I’ve missed our 1:1 time. And I’m not holding back. Here’s the deal: I’ve been fed more than my fair share of vague, fluffy advice in this industry, and in this episode we're pulling back the curtain on one of the worst offenders. In this episode, I’m pulling apart the myth of the almighty WHY and showing you what actually gets clients to say yes. Here’s what you’ll hear inside this episode: The personal update that’s been a total game-changer for my business (and my life). Why 'your why' is an ego-centered topic and why you're not special here. The five things clients actually respond to and how to market them. How I use my personal why as a filter for my decisions, including companies that I will partner with. The real takeaway: stop worshipping your why, and start sharpening your positioning. If your why lights you up, that’s amazing. But if you want a booked calendar and a thriving business? Your positioning and your marketing are what get you there. 030: The Queen of Queens: My Conversation with D’Arcy Benincosa, Part 2
Part 2 with D’Arcy is here, and honestly… it’s even better than Part 1. We moved from editing and trends into the bigger picture: what it really means to build your artistry, find your signature style, and step into the identity shifts that come with building a business as a woman. It’s raw. It’s real. It’s everything I needed to hear back when I was just starting. In this half, we talk about: How to actually find your style (hint: it’s not copying your competition). Why studying florals, film, architecture, even food will make you a better photographer. The identity shifts that come when you stop asking permission and start owning your power. And the big surprise: D’Arcy and I teaching together in Italy. Pasta, portraits, weddings, wine — it’s happening. 029: The Queen of Queens: My Conversation with D’Arcy Benincosa, Part 1
Okay, Posers… today is a big one. I’ve got the Queen of Queens herself, D’Arcy Benincosa, on the podcast. If you don’t already know D’Arcy, she’s the definition of an industry icon. Courses everyone talks about. Editing that’s chef’s kiss. A brain that can take your jumbled ideas and spit out pure gold. And for me? She’s personal. Because years ago I sat in her living room as a brand-new single mom… and The Posing Method was born right there. In Part 1 we dive into: Why your editing is more than pretty colors — it’s your authority. The painful difference between a basic editor vs. a master. The trends that need to die (looking at you, neon grass + ghost skin). How cohesion in your portfolio is the secret to luxury prices. This one had me rethinking my own work mid-conversation. 027: Don’t Be a Little B*tch: The Social Media Episode — Part 1 with Lindley Battle of Cultivé Creative Co
You guys. This episode is a wild ride in the best possible way. In Part 1 of my conversation with Lindley Battle—founder of Cultivé Creative Co and one of the most brilliant, strategic creatives I know—we dive into why just posting pretty pictures with soft music is not a marketing strategy. We talk about the real difference between visibility and authority, the danger of treating Instagram like a passive portfolio, and why showing up with clarity and consistency matters way more than being trendy or viral. We also spiral (obviously) into: – Building brands that actually book – How Lindley and I voice note each other through all our breakdowns and breakthroughs – And the real behind-the-scenes of two women running creative, multi-six-figure businesses that aren’t built on fluff This episode is part storytelling, part therapy, part marketing masterclass—and I swear, it will make you look at your social media presence with fresh eyes. Listen to this if: – You’re a photographer stuck in the cycle of posting and ghosting – You’re ready to scale but feel invisible online – You want to grow without becoming an “influencer” – You need a real friend to say, “Hey babe, this isn’t working—and here’s what to do instead.” Timestamps:00:00 Welcome to the Posers Podcast01:51 Introducing Lindley Battle and Cultivate Creative03:01 The Reality of Social Media Strategy03:29 Unfiltered Conversations and Personal Stories06:39 The Birth of Cultivate Creative13:39 The Importance of Strategy in Marketing25:26 The Importance of Funnels and Monetization26:37 Complexity of Effective Marketing27:21 Creating a Content Strategy29:12 Outsourcing and Simplifying Processes32:45 Authenticity in Marketing41:29 Client-Centered Content Creation47:42 Conclusion and Teaser for Part Two 🔗 Connect with Lindley and Cultivé:📸 Website📷 Contact 🔗 Connect with Jodi:📸 Website📷 Instagram Love this kind of coaching?Make sure you’re on my newsletter list where I share the behind-the-scenes of launches, pricing, posing psychology, and what it really takes to scale a photography business with soul. 📣 Help Spread the Word!If you loved this episode, subscribe, rate, and review! 026: Scaling To 7-Figures With Brittany Elise Part 2
If you thought Part 1 with Brittany Elise was good, just wait. This episode is the masterclass in premium client experience, high-ticket sales, and what it really takes to create consistency inside your business. In Part 2, we’re getting into the real numbers — and the real strategy behind those numbers. Brittany breaks down how she consistently hits $4K+ sales (and $10K+ when it’s really on), without ever feeling pushy, manipulative, or salesy. We’re covering: How assumptions about your clients’ budget are killing your revenue What she actually says in the sales room that moves the needle Why saying “no” to the wrong clients is the most powerful brand move you can make The one mental shift that helped her associate photographer close the year’s two biggest sales And why she hands AI editing off to her team (and still stays current in the game) We even get into educator tea: what it means to teach while still running a real business, how to grow without disconnecting, and why we both refuse to be educators who are out of touch with what photographers really need. This one goes DEEP — and yeah, we hit the 90-minute mark for a reason. 025: Scaling To 7-Figures With Brittany Elise Part 1
This week on The Posers Podcast, I’m sitting down with someone I’ve low-key fangirled over since the first time I saw her on the homepage of RedTree Albums — the incredible Brittany Elise. If you think success is about having the prettiest website or the trendiest IG grid, this episode is going to slap for you. Brittany is a former NICU nurse turned luxury portrait photographer, mastermind creator, and the woman behind a literal 7-figure empire built from the ground up—starting with a shoebox studio, no desk, and employees eating lunch in their cars. In part one, we’re diving into: The messy beginnings (because yes, the queen once worked at her kitchen counter, too) Why investing in yourself is the realest foundation brick you can lay The biggest mindset block photographers have when transitioning to IPS And the psychology of perceived value, digital burnout, and competing with yourself We’re talking SO MUCH about in-person sales — we’re talking about why so many photographers never even get off the launch pad. If you’re ready to stop pretending that “digitals only” is working and start building a business that actually fuels your life? This one’s for you. 024: Hard Truths: If I Wasn’t Afraid of Hurting Your Feelings
This one? Oooop. It’s gonna sting. Because these five truth bombs? They’re not just for you—they’re for me too. In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on what’s really keeping us stuck in our businesses—and it’s not our talent, our market, or our gear. It’s our habits. Our fears. Our overthinking. And in my case… it’s also me sitting at my desk, obsessing over slides for the Mastermind instead of doing other work that actually moves the needle. Did I include an actual voice note that I sent to my team with all of my mental blocks on full display for you? Of course I did, and I’m playing it for you in this episode. Because I could literally hear myself, mid-sentence, blocking my own growth in real time. And I want you to hear it too. Because sometimes the most powerful mirror is someone else’s spiral. We’re talking: Avoidance that looks like productivity “Booked and busy” energy that’s really just busyness and burnout Undercharging, under-showing-up, and hiding in plain sight And the brutal truth about why “balance” might just be your most expensive excuse This episode is for the photographer who knows what to do… and still isn’t doing it. 023: The $3K Mistake That Blew Up My Backend
Okay Posers… I’m telling on myself in this one. This episode is all about a mistake I made in my business that cost me over $3,000 (plus hours of my time and the loss of a really great assistant). And the worst part? I thought I was being smart. Efficient. Resourceful. Spoiler: I wasn’t. I was being comfortable. In this episode, I’m sharing what happened when I tried to shortcut my way into social media strategy by expanding my assistant’s role instead of hiring a real pro... and what that mistake taught me about leadership, boundaries, and the danger of choosing ease over clarity. We’re also diving into the 5 Things Photographers Have No Business Doing In Their Business: Editing (I don’t care how attached you are) Bookkeeping + taxes (unless you want to fight the IRS) Album design (you are not the only one who's good at this) Print sales (aka PASSive income… see what I did there?) Social media (because “posting pretty” ≠ strategy) PLUS: I’m breaking down exactly how I bring in thousands in print sales each year with zero effort by handing off the marketing, customer service, fulfillment, and even abandoned carts. If you’ve ever wondered how to set up your print shop the right way, you can literally just have mine. Sign up for that here: https://success.passgallery.com/jodianne-platinum-referral This one is personal. It’s raw. And it’s here to remind you that spending money you don’t feel “ready” to spend… might be the exact decision that you need to make to move forward. 022: Pretty is Not the Same as Powerful
I said what I said. In this episode, I’m popping off about the epidemic I’m seeing all over our industry—and yeah, I’m calling it an epidemic: photographers hiding behind pretty, Pinterest-perfect work that’s missing the power, the soul, and the luxury they think they’re selling. This one started as an Instagram Story rant. Then I realized: I had more to say. So I marched my sassy little self up to the studio, hit record, and let it rip. Because we’re not here to play small. We’re here to create work that stops people in their tracks. And your overexposed, beige-sweatered, blown-out edits? They’re not doing that. ⚡️ In this episode, I get into: The very real difference between “light & airy” and “blown out & bland” Why consistency ≠ luxury How I helped a mastermind client triple her perceived value—in 30 minutes The truth about why your $300 images will never attract a $3,000 client What most photographers are getting very wrong about Instagram grids Why hiding behind pretty is keeping you stuck—and what to do instead If you’ve been feeling the nudge to go bolder, take risks, and finally create the kind of art your dream clients will pay top dollar for… this is your permission slip. Also? Bring back your shadows, babe. Please. 021: How to Remember Poses During a Photoshoot
The crash out that you and Huda from Love Island have in common. Let’s talk about that dreaded moment: you’re mid-shoot, the light is perfect, your clients are waiting, and your brain? Completely blank. Yep—been there. More than once. In this episode, I’m breaking down exactly why this happens, and it’s not because you’re unprepared or unprofessional. It’s your nervous system doing its job—protecting you under pressure. But here’s the good news: you can rewire that response. I’m walking you through the brain science behind going blank during a session, how “amygdala hijack” shows up behind the camera, and what to do when your prefrontal cortex decides to peace out just when you need it most. Plus, I’m sharing how my method trains you to regulate yourself and your clients before posing even begins—so that the shoot flows, your confidence stays intact, and your clients leave obsessed with both their photos and the experience. We’re talking: How your stress hormones hijack creativity Why shot lists fail you mid-shoot The psychology of posing that actually works My favorite client story from a student who went from panicked to powerful And yes, a full Love Island breakdown because… obviously 👀BONUS TRAINING: Want the 3-sentence formula that regulates your clients and makes awkwardness disappear like a bombshell at recoupling? 020: Greenlit, Not Ghosted
Real examples, real psychology, real results Inquiries are coming in, but no one’s booking—and the inbox is starting to feel haunted. Sound familiar? In this episode, I break down exactly how to stop getting ghosted and start booking high-ticket sessions through strategic, psychology-backed email responses. I’ll walk through a real inquiry that turned into a confirmed booking—no sales call required—and explain the psychology behind every word I wrote. I also share a DM from a fellow photographer who implemented last week’s strategy and saw immediate results, proving this approach works beyond my own business. Inside this episode: 📩A real inquiry breakdown that converted into a multi-thousand-dollar booking 💌A DM from a photographer who got a same-day response using this method 🧠The loss aversion bias and why “don’t miss out” is stronger than “look what I offer” 🎯Price anchoring psychology and how to frame your numbers like a pro 📅The color-coded calendar trick that uses visual decision-making to drive action 🔑Strategic word choices that stack urgency, scarcity, and micro-commitments 💼Plus: how to signal authority without sounding salesy Whether you’re responding to one-off inquiries or tightening your communication process across the board, this episode is packed with tangible takeaways that can raise your booking rate and your client confidence overnight. 019: The 3-Sentence Email Hack :: Stop Getting Ghosted
What if I told you the reason you’re getting ghosted isn’t your pricing—it’s your paragraphs? In this episode, I’m breaking down the psychology behind why your beautifully written, overly detailed reply is overwhelming potential clients and shutting down the sale before it ever starts. This week, I made a rookie mistake that led to my first ghosting in years. And the second I opened the email I had sent… it was obvious. I skipped the psychology, flooded the inbox, and forgot to build the most important thing: connection. Inside, I’ll walk you through: The psychology of the mental transaction (and how to trigger micro-conversions with one small ask) How to write short, strategic emails that feel personal—not pushy Why sending your pricing too early kills the conversation Discovery calls vs email conversions—and what I’m currently testing in my own business How to normalize a high-ticket offer before you even mention the price You’ll also hear the exact 3-sentence email I now use to spark replies, establish authority, and create emotional engagement—without sounding salesy or desperate. Hit play and learn how to make them write back—without begging, discounting, or following up five times. I’m unpacking why the traditional idea of work/life balance doesn’t work—especially for women building something from scratch. And how I’ve learned to let go of the guilt when my ambition speaks louder than motherhood does. In This Episode: 🔥 The real cost of following advice from people in totally different seasons 🔥 How building my business kept me sane through divorce and early motherhood 🔥 Why I don’t see my kids as competition with my ambition—they’re shaped by it 🔥 What it’s looked like for me to choose myself and my business… sometimes over my family 🔥 Why I think it’s less about balance and more about knowing yourself, obsessing over each part of you that you love… and just calling that life Timestamps: 00:00 Welcome to the Posers Podcast 00:35 Catching Up After a Break 01:22 The Bahama Mama Adventures 03:00 Teenagers and Vacation Realities 04:28 The Work-Life Balance Dilemma 05:25 Childhood Memories and Social Dynamics 08:16 Rejecting the Balance Myth 12:37 Embracing Obsession and Ambition 16:40 Personal Journey and Business Growth 25:09 Final Thoughts and Call to Action 🔗 Connect with Jodi:📸 Website📷 Instagram 📣 Help Spread the Word!If you loved this episode, subscribe, rate, and review! 017: The 3-Step Formula to Becoming Your Own PR Team
If you’re waiting for someone to notice your work, hype up your talent, or magically make your bookings roll in… let me stop you right there. No one is coming. In this episode of The Posers Podcast, I’m breaking down the 3-step formula to becoming your own PR team—because if you’re not doing the visibility work for your business, no one else is going to. I’ll walk you through the kind of PR engine that I knew that I had to build for my 40 Over 40 Photography Experience—a totally new offer that required a way louder, more strategic launch than just “posting pretty photos.” And spoiler alert? This is exactly why most photographers stay stuck and underbooked. We’re not whispering our wins anymore. We’re turning quiet qualifications into loud demand. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why pretty work doesn’t sell itself (and what actually does) The biggest myth about established photographers and “easy bookings” The #1 mistake photographers make with reposts and missed momentum How to “brag better” without sounding full of yourself The exact 3-part framework I use: Be Proud. Be Loud. Be Strategic. Plus, I’m sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the moment I realized I could either hide behind humility… or own my authority. 016: The $10K Photos They’d Hang in a Museum
This isn’t your average “how to run a boudoir business” convo. This is a behind-the-scenes tour of a creative empire in the making. In Part 2 of my conversation with Shannon Griffin, we get deep into the art, psychology, and bold pricing strategy that powers Shannon’s luxury boudoir brand. We’re talking $1,500 commission fees just to start… and five-figure sales for custom-designed wall art that belongs in a gallery. You’ll hear the truth about boundaries, high-end client expectations, saying “no” more than “yes,” and how Shannon’s work changed when she stopped trying to be “just” a photographer—and claimed her place as an artist. If you’ve ever wondered how to charge more, do less, and create actual art people will treasure for a lifetime… this is the episode. Inside this one, we talk about: 🔥What Shannon’s luxury client process really looks like (and why most people fall off) 🔥The mental game of building a business that’s mostly “no”s 🔥How she gets $10K+ clients to say yes without ever sending a price list 🔥What it means to run a values-led, vision-first business (even when it’s terrifying) 🔥Why being the breadwinner, the visionary, and the feeler is a lot—and also totally worth it Timestamps: 00:40 Recap of Last Week's Episode with Shannon Griffin 01:45 Diving into Boudoir Photography 03:11 Creating Trust and Tension with Clients 04:47 The Art of Wall Art 07:13 Shannon's Unique Process and Client Experience 09:11 Challenges and Triumphs in Business 13:04 The Importance of Client Fit and Pricing 15:53 Personal Struggles and Business Impact 19:20 Empowering Women and Building Friendships 20:03 Introducing Pricing and Session Fees 20:19 The Questionnaire and Client Expectations 22:16 Discussing Pricing and Value 24:04 Handling Client Objections and Sales Strategies 26:29 Balancing Client Relationships and Sales 28:42 The Importance of Including Partners in Decisions 33:17 Final Thoughts and Contact Information 35:38 Podcast Wrap-Up 🔗 Connect with Jodi:📸 Website📷 Instagram 📣 Help Spread the Word!If you loved this episode, subscribe, rate, and review!
