This Didn't Happen Overnight (Why Your Body Reached a Limit)
How do you go from “handling life” to feeling like something isn’t working anymore? Most people don’t set out to learn about their nervous system; they get there because something in their life, or their body, starts to shift. In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, I explore what’s really happening beneath that moment, when capacity changes, symptoms show up, and things that once felt manageable no longer do.You’ll learn:• Why these changes don’t happen overnight• How years of stress, experiences, and patterns can accumulate in the body• What it means when your body “reaches a limit”• Why this isn’t failure, but communication• How to begin looking at your experience with more understanding and less pressureIf you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “Why is this happening now?”, This conversation will help you see it from a completely different perspective.✨ Inside the Healing Vault, we go deeper into how to begin working with what your body has been carrying, and how to support it in a different way. When There's No Bear Chasing You
When your body reacts, but nothing around you seems wrong. In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, I use a simple but powerful analogy, “when there’s no bear chasing you” to explain why the body can stay in a state of stress and activation even when there isn’t an immediate threat. You’ll learn:• Why physical sensations like a racing heart, tight stomach, or feeling on edge aren’t random• How the body is designed to respond to danger, and what happens when it stays in that state• Why these responses can show up daily, not just in stressful moments• The connection between past experiences and present physical reactions• How to begin recognizing what your body is actually doingThis episode is not about fixing or analyzing…It’s about helping you recognize the signals your body has been sending you and understanding why they make sense. Inside the Healing Vault, we go deeper into how to work with these responses and gently help the body begin to settle again.https://www.facebook.com/share/1AtA1MsYNE/https://sheila-hochbergs-team.adalo.com/rooted

You Don't Have to Wait for Them to Heal
Do both people have to be doing the work for a relationship to get better? It’s a belief many of us carry…and one that can quietly keep us stuck, waiting, or feeling powerless. In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, I explore what it actually looks like to begin healing, even when the other person isn’t.You’ll learn:• Why healing starts internally, not relationally• How your nervous system shifts can change how you respond and relate• What happens when you stop waiting for someone else to change• The difference between influence and control in relationships• Why your growth still matters, even if they never do the same workThis conversation expands beyond romantic relationships into family, parenting, and everyday dynamics, reminding you that your healing is not dependent on everyone around you being on the same path.If you’ve ever felt stuck waiting for someone else to change before things could get better, this episode will gently shift that perspective and give you your power back.Do both people have to heal for a relationship to work?In this episode, I unpack why your healing doesn’t have to wait for someone else, and how real change begins within you, even if nothing around you shifts right away.Join me in the app for more content.https://sheila-hochbergs-team.adalo.com/rooted

Why Understanding Isn't Enough (What Somatic Integration Actually Means)
You understand it…you can see your patterns…but nothing feels like it’s actually changing. Why?In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, I unpack the difference between awareness and somatic integration, and why insight alone isn’t enough to create real, lasting change. You’ll learn:• Why you can understand something mentally but still feel the same in your body• What somatic integration actually means (in simple, practical terms)• How the body changes through experience, not just information• What to expect as your body begins to shift over time• Why you’re not “doing it wrong” if things aren’t changing yet If you’ve been in that space of “I get it… but I’m not feeling different,” this conversation will help you understand why, and what comes next. Inside the Healing Vault and Rooted and Renewed Online Course, we go beyond understanding and begin working through this in real time, creating the space for your body to actually experience something different. https://sheila-hochbergs-team.adalo.com/[email protected]

It's Not Really About the Garage
What if your reaction isn’t really about what’s happening in front of you?In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, Sheila is joined by her husband Mike for a real-life conversation that started with something simple, a discussion about cleaning out the garage, and uncovered something much deeper.Together, they explore:• How reactions can be connected to past experiences• What it looks like when the body holds onto unresolved stress• The moment awareness shifts from “this is frustrating” to “this might be deeper”• How tension and patterns can show up physically in the body• Why slowing down and working with the body can begin to create changeThis honest and relatable conversation offers a glimpse into how awareness begins, and why what we feel in our body is often more meaningful than we realize.✨ A deeper version of this conversation is available inside the Healing Vault membership platform, where we explore the process more fully. When Your Body Is Trying to Get Your Attention: Somatic Healing, How Does it Work
Why does what we feel in our body matter… and how can something as simple as slowing down actually help?In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, I unpack the connection between physical symptoms, emotional patterns, and the nervous system, explaining why the body’s responses are not random, but meaningful. You’ll learn:• Why physical tension, overwhelm, or shutdown can be connected to deeper patterns• How the body and emotional system work together• What somatic (body-based) work actually does• Why slowing down and creating safety in the body matters for healing• What to realistically expect when you begin working with your bodyThis episode offers a simple, grounded understanding of how the body responds, and how healing often happens gradually, not all at once.If you’ve ever wondered why, you can understand something mentally but still feel it in your body… this conversation will help connect those dots.https://www.facebook.com/share/1E7Svifpnh/ We explore this more deeply inside the Healing Vault during our live sessions every Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM EST, inside the Rooted & Renewed Facebook group.Breath, Body, and God’s Design A SimpleScripture Reference GuideBreath as the Source of Life-Genesis 2:7- Job 33:4- Acts 17:25Breath and the Fragility of the Body- Job 27:3- Psalm 104:29–30- Isaiah 38:16Breath as Worship Through the Body- Psalm 150:6- Psalm 146:2Breath and the Renewal of Life- Ezekiel 37:5–6- John 20:22Breath as Divine Inspiration- 2 Timothy 3:16Take your time with these. This isn’t about studying harder…it’s about noticing what has been true all along

When Love Finally Lands (And You Don't Know How to Receive It)
Why is it so hard to receive something good, even when it’s something we’ve been longing for?In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, I share a personal reflection on what happens when we are finally seen, valued, or appreciated… and why our first response isn’t always to simply receive it. Instead, many of us deflect, minimize, or feel overwhelmed, not because we don’t want it, but because it’s unfamiliar to our nervous system. In this episode, you’ll hear:• Why receiving can feel uncomfortable, even when it’s something good• How our past experiences shape what feels “normal” in our body• The subtle ways we deflect or minimize being seen• How to begin allowing good things to land without explaining them away This is a gentle, honest conversation about learning how to receive what we’ve been longing for, and why that, too, is part of healing. If this resonates with you, we explore topics like this more deeply inside the Healing Vault during our live sessions every Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM inside the Rooted & Renewed Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/share/18KfgxznPY/https://www.facebook.com/share/g/18DR7btrGC/

When the Nervous System Loses Control: Lessons from Exodus and Real Life
Why do we sometimes react so strongly to situations that seem small in the moment? In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed Podcast, Sheila explores how the nervous system responds to moments where control feels threatened, even when those experiences happened years or decades ago.Using a personal story about a recent conversation with her husband, Sheila explains how past experiences of loss can shape present reactions. The conversation then turns to the story of the Israelites leaving Egypt and how their longing to return to slavery can be understood through the lens of the nervous system. This episode explores:• Why the nervous system seeks control and predictability• How past experiences of loss or instability can shape present reactions• Why the Israelites longed for Egypt after leaving slavery• The connection between control, trust, and faith• How awareness can help us respond with compassion rather than shameThis teaching bridges faith, nervous system awareness, and everyday life, helping listeners understand why their bodies sometimes react before their minds understand why.If this conversation resonates with you, we explore topics like this more deeply during our Healing Vault live sessions every Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM inside the Rooted & Renewed Facebook group. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1Jc4rst27q/

When Boundaries Feel Like Rejection
Why do healthy boundaries sometimes feel like rejection? In this episode, we explore how the nervous system can interpret limits, distance, or “no” as a threat to connection, especially if boundaries were never modeled or explained in healthy ways growing up.When rules were given without context, questions weren’t welcome, or emotional environments felt unpredictable, the body may have learned that boundaries meant dismissal rather than clarity. That early learning can follow us into adulthood, shaping how we respond when someone sets a boundary with us — or when we try to set one ourselves.Through a nervous-system lens and a faith perspective, this episode looks at how our interpretations of boundaries are often rooted in past experiences, and how awareness can help us begin to see them differently.Healthy boundaries aren’t rejection. They’re clarity, and learning that difference can transform the way we relate to ourselves and to others.

When the Nervous System Fills in the Blanks
Last week, something small happened during a family dinner, nothing dramatic, nothing confrontational, yet my body reacted before my mind had fully processed what was actually happening. In this episode, I share how the nervous system is not only reactive but predictive. It scans past experiences, anticipates outcomes, and often fills in blanks based on old relational patterns rather than present reality. We’ll talk about what it looks like when your body decides “I’m not prioritized” before anyone says it, how layered stress amplifies predictions, and how slowing down can bring clarity back to the moment. If you’ve ever found yourself reacting quickly and wondering later why it felt so intense, this conversation is for you. We’ll also continue unpacking these themes more deeply inside the Healing Vault, where we meet live every Tuesday evening at 6:30 inside the Rooted & Renewed Facebook group. You are not broken.Your nervous system is learning, and it can learn something new.https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1FRWMRzTi9/

When "Do Not Worry" Feels Hard to Live Out
Philippians 4 is one of the most quoted passages about anxiety and peace.“Do not be anxious…”“Think on what is true…”“And the peace of God will guard your heart and mind.”But what happens when you love God, you pray, you try to sit still and think on what is lovely, and your body still feels restless? In this episode, I share part of my own journey of trying to live out this passage while carrying unresolved trauma and a dysregulated nervous system. Together we explore the difference between cognitive control and relational safety, how the Bible’s understanding of “heart and mind” is more embodied than we often assume, and why secure attachment and co-regulation matter spiritually and physiologically. This isn’t about dismissing Scripture. It’s about slowing down and understanding it more fully. If you’ve ever wondered why peace felt harder to access than the verse made it sound, this conversation is for you.Healing doesn’t replace faith; it often deepens it.

The Hidden Blueprint: God's design Behind Your Relationships
Attachment isn’t a personality label. It’s a nervous system blueprint. From our earliest years, long before words or theology, our bodies were learning what connection feels like, whether closeness was steady or unpredictable, whether emotions were welcomed or overwhelming. In this episode, we explore:• How attachment forms• Why relational patterns repeat• How your nervous system learned connection• And how Genesis and Romans 12:2 reveal God’s design for renewalThis conversation isn’t about blame. It’s about clarity. And clarity creates space for healing. If you’d like to go deeper, join me Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM for the Healing Vault Live inside the Rooted & Renewed Facebook group, where we explore these topics through a faith-centered and embodied lens.https://www.facebook.com/share/g/186DQxWkKe/Stay rooted.Stay renewed.

When Wanting Change Isn't Enough: A Romans 7 Perspective
Many people of faith carry a quiet frustration: “I love God. I want to do differently. So why do I keep responding the same way?”In this episode, we explore Romans 7 through a nervous system lens, looking at why sincere desire and strong faith don’t always translate into immediate change. We talk about how early experiences shape our responses long before conscious choice is available, why faith doesn’t instantly erase learned patterns, and how compassion, rather than pressure, is often the doorway to real healing. This conversation is not about self-condemnation or trying harder. It’s about understanding how God designed the body to learn, adapt, and heal, and why process does not mean failure. We’ll be going deeper into this topic inside the Healing Vault, where we gather live every Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM inside the Rooted & Renewed Facebook group to explore these patterns more slowly and with care.https://www.facebook.com/share/17fYtTgvGL/https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1AHmxcrtMn/

When Healing Becomes Another Stressor
Healing is meant to bring relief. But for many people, it quietly becomes another source of pressure. Another thing to research, another thing to fix and another thing to get right. In this episode of Rooted and Renewed, we gently explore what happens when healing itself becomes another stressor, an how easily our nervous system can turn even good information into urgency. This conversation looks at:Why adding "one more thing" can feel regulating but often keeps us activated. How insight can turn into pressure if it is not given time to settle. The difference between curiosity and urgency in the healing process. Why awareness doesn't require immediate action. How slowing down can be the most healing step.If you have ever felt overwhelmed by healing information, tired of chasing the next answer, or unsure what you're supposed to do with all the awareness you've gained, this episode is an invitation to pause. Want to go deeper?Inside the Healing Vault, we explore these themes slowly and with care, allowing space for integration rather than urgency.email me at [email protected] for how to join this community.Stay RootedStay Renewed

Empathy VS Responsibility: Knowing the Difference
Empathy allows us to see and understand others. But for many of us, empathy didn’t stop there. In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, we explore what happens when empathy quietly turns into responsibility, when caring becomes carrying, and connection begins to cost us our health. This conversation looks at:how empathy can become a nervous system strategywhy so many helpers, fixers, and caretakers feel chronically exhaustedhow emotional responsibility can register in the body as loadwhy rest doesn’t feel restorative when the nervous system never powers downthe difference between compassion and over-functioningIf you’ve learned to read the room quickly, anticipate unspoken needs, manage emotions that aren’t yours, or hold relationships together by adjusting yourself, this episode is an invitation to deeper understanding — not self-criticism.You are not broken.Your nervous system adapted beautifully to help you stay alert, connected, and functioning when things asked more of you than you had support for.In February, inside the Healing Vault, we’ll be exploring this more slowly and with care, the difference between empathy and over-functioning, compassion and carrying, and how boundaries can actually support the nervous system rather than create distance.🔐 To learn more about the Healing Vault or upcoming live sessions: email me at [email protected] with questions.Stay rooted. Why We Respond the Way We Do: Understanding Nervous System Patterns
Have you ever wondered why you reacted a certain way — even when you knew better? In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, we explore why many of the responses we judge as flaws are actually nervous system responses learned early in life. This conversation isn’t about fixing or labeling, it’s about understanding, compassion, and safety. We talk about:why reactions aren’t character failureshow the nervous system prioritizes safetywhy fight, flight, freeze, and fawn responses developwhy willpower alone doesn’t create lasting changeIf this episode resonates, we’ll be exploring these patterns more deeply during upcoming Healing Vault live sessions, where we slow this work down and approach healing with care.🔐 Join the Healing Vault and find live session details here:https://www.facebook.com/share/1DaY2fpSmz/You are not broken. You adapted, and understanding is the beginning of healing.Stay rooted. Why New Year's Resolutions Are So Hard to Keep
Every January, many of us feel an unspoken pressure to reset, new goals, new habits, new motivation. And yet winter often brings the opposite: lower energy, foggier thinking, and difficulty sustaining change. In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, we explore why New Year’s resolutions are so hard to keep, especially in winter, and how our physiology and nervous system play a much bigger role than we’ve been taught to consider. We talk about:Why winter is not a biological “start-up” seasonHow daylight, circadian rhythms, and melatonin affect energy and motivationWhy sudden intensity, rigid expectations, and all-or-nothing thinking often backfireHow relying on willpower alone ignores nervous system capacityA gentler, more sustainable way to approach the new year through seasonal alignmentRather than pushing harder, this conversation invites a different framework:January as orientation,February as stabilization, and spring as natural expansion. If this episode resonates with you and you’re realizing that your body may be asking for a different pace, I want to personally invite you to join me for a live Healing Vault conversation this Tuesday evening. In that space, we’ll slow this down even further and explore how to work with your nervous system instead of against it as we begin the year.Join me here Tuesday January 6 at 6:30 PM EST https://www.facebook.com/share/1Bw7Q2Yypm/ You’re not unmotivated. You’re not behind. You’re responding to a season.Stay rooted. Grace VS Grit
Most of us have heard the words, “Come to Me, all who are weary.”But far fewer of us were ever shown what that actually looks like in real life.In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, we explore the difference between grace and grit — and how many of us learned to survive through pushing, endurance, and strength long before we ever learned how to rest.We look at:How grit often forms as a survival strategy, not a character flawWhy compassion came before correction in the way Jesus met peopleHow patterns like pushing through exhaustion, being the strong one, or struggling to rest are often learned responsesWhat it means to truly come instead of performThis episode is not about trying harder or fixing yourself. It’s about recognition, relief, and invitation. If you found yourself reflected in this conversation and feel drawn to go deeper — to understand the nervous system side of these patterns and what it looks like to practice grace in a sustainable, embodied way — we explore this and related topics inside the Healing Vault and the Rooted & Renewed course. Those spaces are designed to slow this work down and support real integration over time.My email is [email protected], if you’d like more information or have questions. You’re welcome to reach out and explore at your own pace. You’re not broken. You learned how to survive. And now, you’re being invited into something gentler.Stay rooted. Stay renewed.

Triggers vs. Overstimulation: Regulating Through the Holidays
In this episode of the Rooted & Renewed podcast, we explore a distinction that becomes especially important during the holidays: the difference between emotional triggers and nervous system overstimulation.Family gatherings can activate old wounds, roles, and relational patterns — but sometimes we feel dysregulated for a different reason altogether. Sometimes our nervous systems are simply overloaded by too much input, even when everything is good.In this conversation, we unpack:How family dynamics and unresolved trauma can trigger the nervous systemWhy the nervous system doesn’t distinguish between “good” and “bad,” only loadHow joyful experiences can still lead to exhaustion, disrupted sleep, or irritabilityWhy regulation is about response, not controlHow to ask gentler, more helpful questions when you feel “off”If the holidays leave you feeling unsettled, overwhelmed, or unsure why your capacity feels lower, this episode will help you understand what your body is communicating — without shame or self-judgment.You’re not failing. You’re responding.Stay rooted. Epiphany vs Willpower: Why Healing Isn’t About Trying Harder
In today’s episode, we explore the powerful difference between willpower and epiphany — and why real healing doesn’t come from trying harder, but from deeper understanding.Willpower has limits. Some days we have it, some days we don’t. And when we rely on effort alone, we often end up stuck in cycles of shame, frustration, and self-blame. But revelation works differently. It invites curiosity instead of condemnation and asks a gentler, more transformative question: “Why is this here?”In this episode, I unpack:Why willpower fluctuates and eventually fails in healingThe hidden cost of asking “How do I stop this?”How revelation shifts us toward compassion, safety, and truthWhy understanding the why behind our patterns leads to lasting changeHow faith, nervous system regulation, and healing intersectIf you’re tired of starting over, pushing harder, or feeling like you should be further along, this conversation is for you. Healing begins not when we overpower ourselves — but when we listen. You’re not behind. You’re becoming.Stay rooted. Stay renewed.

His Perspective: What Healing Looks Like Through Your Partner's Eyes
In today’s episode, Mike joins me for an honest, tender conversation about what healing looks like from the other side — through the eyes of the person walking beside you. This episode goes deeper than our Facebook Live, exploring:What my healing journey felt like for him in the beginningThe moments that challenged our marriageThe shifts he noticed as I grew, softened, and came home to myselfHow my emotional work invited him to look at his ownWhat partners really feel during the harder seasonsHow healing reshapes communication, intimacy, and connectionHis encouragement for men walking beside a woman who is healingHis message to women who fear they are “too much” while doing the workHealing is not a solo mission — it impacts every relationship we hold, especially marriage. Rooted and Renewed: Showing Up & Teaching My Nervous System Safety
In this deeply personal episode, I open up about the quiet—and often overlooked—work of showing up when the world feels silent. What do you do when your efforts seem small, your progress feels invisible, or your audience is tiny? And how does the simple act of consistency become a powerful part of nervous system healing?Through gentle reflection, faith-rooted insight, and honest storytelling, I explore how steady, intentional rhythms teach the body safety, help dismantle survival-mode patterns, and create space for God to work in the hidden places of our lives. If you’ve ever wondered, “Does any of this even matter?” or felt discouraged by small beginnings, this episode is a reminder that roots grow long before fruit appears—and that healing often happens in the quiet moments of obedience, long before anyone else sees it.
