Ep. 31 - Your Health, Your Way: Building a Healthy Lifestyle That Works for You | A Convo with Kate Erwin

In this episode, I’m joined by Kate Erwin, who also happens to be my very first podcast guest from over two years ago. It was really special to reconnect and hear what’s changed since then, because a lot has.Kate shares her experience of losing more than 60 pounds in the past year, but more importantly, how she’s done it in a way that actually feels sustainable for her. And that’s what this conversation is really about. We talk about what it looks like to step away from rigid rules and instead create a way of eating, moving, and living that reflects your personality, your values, and your real life.Kate is very honest about what works for her and what doesn’t. From tracking her habits in spreadsheets, to finding movement she actually enjoys, to navigating her relationship with food and alcohol, this is a conversation about learning yourself instead of trying to force yourself. We also talk about her experience working with a health coach, and how surprised she was by the level of empathy, personalization, and acceptance she received. That piece alone is something I think a lot of people don’t expect but it can make all the difference.A few things we explore in this episode: Why sustainable change has to fit you The role of joy in building habits that last  How understanding your “why” changes everything  What support can look like when it’s collaborative instead of prescriptive  Kate’s experience with GLP-1 medications, and how she’s approached them in a measured, intentional way  How celebrating wins helps cement changes into new habitsWhat stood out most to me in this conversation is how much of this comes back to self-trust. When you stop trying to follow someone else’s plan and start paying attention to what actually works for you, everything shifts.Connect with Kate: Kate shares bits of her journey on social. Ep. 30 - Weeding Out Wellness Myths: “Change Is Linear”

In this episode, I’m exploring the myth that change is linear — and why believing it can keep us stuck in shame and self-criticism. I share my own story of emotional eating, what the science says about how change really happens, and how to work with the natural rhythms of growth instead of fighting them. You’ll learn practical ways to navigate the ups and downs of change — like reframing setbacks, tracking patterns instead of perfection, planning for disruptions, and celebrating every return to your healthy habits. Ep. 29 - Weeding Out Wellness Myths: “If I Want It, I Should Just Do It”

Have you ever told yourself, “If I really wanted to change, I should just be able to do it” only to end up feeling stuck, frustrated, or even ashamed when you don't follow through? You’re not alone. In this episode, I’m busting the myth that willpower and commitment are all it takes to make lasting change. I share why unconscious ambivalence is a completely normal part of the process, how our environment shapes our habits more than we realize, and why shame cycles can hold us back instead of helping us move forward.I’ll also tell a personal story about how giving up dairy wasn’t as simple as I thought it would be, and the lessons I learned along the way. You’ll walk away with practical strategies that can help you actually do the things you say you want to do. Ep. 28 - Rethinking Our Beliefs About Money with Women, Worth & Wellness Founder Nancy Griffin

What does money have to do with health and wellness? More than we often realize. In this episode of Wellness in a Chaotic World, I sit down with Nancy Griffin, founder of Women, Worth & Wellness, who works with women to explore the connection between money, self-worth, and well-being. Together, we dig into the hidden beliefs we carry about wealth and how those beliefs quietly shape the choices we make.Over the past few years, I’ve had my own realizations about money—like how I often unconsciously capped what I felt “allowed” to earn. Looking back, it seemed like a matter of career circumstances, but underneath was a story about safety and self-worth. This conversation with Nancy is another reminder of how powerful these hidden money stories can be, and how freeing it is when we begin to shift them. Some of the key takeaways?Health and wealth are inseparable. Your financial wellbeing supports your health, and your health is the foundation for everything else. It’s okay to ask for help. Just as we lean on trusted health professionals, we can also turn to trusted advisors to guide our finances.Honesty is the cornerstone. With yourself, a partner, or an advisor, truthfulness is what opens the door to real solutions. You are worthy. Seeking guidance, asking questions, and taking ownership of your resources is an act of self-worth.If you’ve ever felt tension around money—whether it’s shame, confusion, or uncertainty—you’re not alone. This episode is an invitation to look at your money beliefs with compassion and curiosity, and to consider what healthier truths you might begin to carry forward.Nancy shares practical insights and encouragement that make this conversation feel both grounding and liberating. Whether you’re navigating a financial transition, rethinking your relationship with work, or simply curious about how money intersects with health, I hope you’ll find something here that speaks to your own journey.Connect with Nancy Griffin:Website: womenworthwellness.com/Email: [email protected]: @womenworthandwellness Want to connect with Wellness in a Chaotic World?Join the free, private Facebook GroupWebsite: https://wellnessinachaoticworld.comInstagram: @wellnessinachaoticworldFacebook: @wellnessinachaoticworldpodcastSign Up for Wellness Insights and Podcast UpdatesClick here to sign up for episode alerts, reflections, and more.Get Your Free Guide to Rooted, Sustainable Wellness Want simple ways to plant seeds of wellness in your daily life? Ep. 27 - When Progress Feels Slow: Choosing Patience & Prioritizing Well-Being

In this episode, I’m talking about something that often comes up in personal growth and the pursuit of well-being: that quiet, frustrating space where change feels slow and progress isn’t easy to measure. Maybe you’re showing up for yourself, making intentional choices, and still wondering, why don’t I feel further along by now?If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and you’re not off track.Today, I’m exploring what it means to trust the process, give ourselves credit for the small shifts, and care for ourselves deeply during the in-between seasons. I’m sharing a personal reflection, a practice I use with my coaching clients, and a few gentle questions to help you reconnect with your own path — even if it’s unfolding more slowly than you'd like. This isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about moving with care.If you’re craving permission to slow down and a reminder that meaningful change often happens beneath the surface, I hope this episode gives you what you need.***Listen to the Guided Visualization episode mentioned today, or read the blog post that inspired today's episode. Functional Medicine for Nurses with Kimberly Rose Bley

Kimberly Rose Bley (AKA Remedy Rose) has been a bedside nurse for 15 years. Rose witnessed how others were treated in the hospital during the COVID pandemic and was deeply moved to do her part to create a new paradigm. She says most of her nursing colleagues were forced to practice under extreme conditions and, as a consequence, lost empathy. In 2021, Rose went back to school to become a certified Functional and Nutritional Medicine Practitioner. After graduating and starting her own practice, at the age of 37, she discovered she was finally pregnant after several years of trying. She credits the successful pregnancy and birth of her baby boy to using what she learned about functional medicine to treat her own infertility issues. She is now committing her life’s work to serving other nurses and healthcare workers. Teaching them how to use self-love, kindness, and patience with themselves so they can be better nurses to the public. You can find more about Rose and TruRoot Health on Instagram @kimberlyrosebley or Facebook at her TruRoot Health page. They got sick of choosing between themselves, their kids, and their business! So, they're introducing a new offer: small group coaching designed for moms who own online businesses. This mini-mastermind program focuses on maintaining health, wellness, and presence with your family as they help you build a 6+ figure income.  About Kara Knott and Laura KendrickThrough their businesses, Intuitive Warrior Yoga and Ruby Bells, Kara and Laura specialize in guiding soul-centered online business-owning moms towards growth in business, health, and presence with their kids. Laura's approach emphasizes joy in parenting, confidence in life, and killer sales funnels, while Kara focuses on healing through holistic tools, grounding with embodiment, and presence through yoga, community, and thoughtful support. Together, they offer insights and strategies for thriving in both personal and professional life while teaching their students how to build a business purpose and prosperity. For more about their journey and offerings, visit their websites or Instagram. For online business-owning parents searching for balance and growth:https://www.rubybells.com Instagram: @rubybellscoachingFor yoga:https://www.intuitivewarrior.yoga/Instagram: @intuitivewarrioryogaResources:For those who listen to the part where we discuss making a smoothie instead of trying to find balance, the smoothie analogy comes from Jacqueline Snyder, host of Want to connect with Wellness in a Chaotic World?Join the free, private Facebook GroupWebsite: https://wellnessinachaoticworld.comInstagram: @wellnessinachaoticworldFacebook: @wellnessinachaoticworldpodcastSign Up for Wellness Insights and Podcast UpdatesClick here to sign up for episode alerts, reflections, and more.Get Your Free Guide to Rooted, Sustainable Wellness Want simple ways to plant seeds of wellness in your daily life? Self-Awareness and the Enneagram with Kelly Tibbitts

Kelly Tibbitts is a life coach and the host of "The Vibrant Life Podcast." Kelly offers coaching that encourages and equips women to live brave, creative, and purpose-filled lives. I asked Kelly to be a guest today to talk about the Enneagram, which is one of the tools she uses to help women become self-aware.When I discovered the Enneagram, which is a self-discovery tool that helps you understand the motivations and fears behind your personality and behaviors, it broke open a new level of understanding for me that other personality tests and quizzes didn’t.The Enneagram has nine primary personality types, but as you’ll hear in today’s conversation, there are additional pieces of the model that inform how a person might think, feel, or act.Today’s conversation is meant to be an introduction, so I will close out this episode by reading the nine types so that you can start to get a sense of which number you might be.To learn more about Kelly Tibbitts and her life coaching program, you can visit her website at kellytibbitts.com or find her on Instagram @coachkellytibbitts or Facebook.Resources:The Enneagram Institute Want to connect with Wellness in a Chaotic World?Join the free, private Facebook GroupWebsite: https://wellnessinachaoticworld.comInstagram: @wellnessinachaoticworldFacebook: @wellnessinachaoticworldpodcastSign Up for Wellness Insights and Podcast UpdatesClick here to sign up for episode alerts, reflections, and more.Get Your Free Guide to Rooted, Sustainable Wellness Want simple ways to plant seeds of wellness in your daily life? From Unwell to Unstoppable: A Journey to Better Health with Functional Medicine

For today’s episode, I had a chat with LaVonna Willingham from Paducah, KY. In the fall of 2022, LaVonna started feeling unwell. She knew her health was declining, but the standard bloodwork and her doctors said everything was fine. Knowing that everything was NOT fine, she decided she needed to get to the root of why she wasn’t feeling well. To do that, LaVonna found a doctor who practices functional medicine. Functional medicine recognizes that the different systems in the body (circulatory, respiratory, digestive, etc.) are all one connected system. It's an approach to medicine that treats the whole person and looks for the root causes of a patient's symptoms. A few months after starting a functional medicine program with Dr. Kay Corpus, LaVonna was not only feeling better and able to take less of her thyroid medication but also launching a new virtual assistant and coaching business. LaVonna’s story shows her grit and love of life, and I find her inspiring. I hope you enjoy hearing her story as much as I did.You can find more about LaVonna at llbusinessservices.com.Links to books and resources mentioned in today's episode:Dr. Kay CorpusBlue Zones"The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk, MD"You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise Hay"The Empath's Survival Guide" by Judith Orloff, MD"The Business Boutique" by Christy Wright"Atomic Habits" by James ClearThe Cathy Heller Podcast Want to connect with Wellness in a Chaotic World?Join the free, private Facebook GroupWebsite: https://wellnessinachaoticworld.comInstagram: @wellnessinachaoticworldFacebook: @wellnessinachaoticworldpodcastSign Up for Wellness Insights and Podcast UpdatesClick here to sign up for episode alerts, reflections, and more.Get Your Free Guide to Rooted, Sustainable Wellness Want simple ways to plant seeds of wellness in your daily life? Building a Healthy Home Life with Kathryn Garland

Currently, she feels that nervous system regulation, healthy nourishing foods, and connection with others are the most important pieces to healthy living. In our conversation, we talk about how she and her husband uprooted their lives, moving from Ontario to British Columbia, to go from city living to full-on homesteading. We also talk about what it’s like to live a home-centered life, homeschooling her kids, the benefits of home cooking, and the traveling she did before coming home. You can follow Kathryn on Instagram @homespun.kathryn or join her Homespun Facebook group to learn more about her podcast. Welcome to the Wellness in a Chaotic World Podcast

Hello! Welcome to the Wellness in a Chaotic World podcast. I’m your host Sheryl Davis. I am a writer, a mother, a wife, a sister, and a friend. I’m the introverted neighbor next door. I am NOT a doctor or a health expert. But, for many years, I’ve struggled with inflammation, joint pain, digestive problems, and other health issues that visits to the doctor couldn’t seem to fix. Through a journey of self-exploration and self-advocacy, I’ve started to learn what works for me and my body and what doesn’t.Wellness in a Chaotic World explores what it means to take ownership of your own health and wellness in a world that doesn’t support a healthy lifestyle. If you feel drained by the expectations of modern life or you know what it’s like to be in a downward spiral of negative self-talk when you make a less-than-healthy decision for yourself, you’re in the right place. Each week I have conversations with real people learning to live well in our unhealthy, stressed-out, and chaotic world.Through personal stories and the occasional chat with experts in health and wellness, I hope you’ll find inspiration, encouragement, and practical advice for taking steps to reclaim your own health and happiness. Most of all, though, I hope you’ll discover that, although we're all individuals with unique health and wellness challenges, we’re not alone on the journey. So many of the people I love have struggled with their own health challenges like diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, cancer, ALS, anxiety, ADHD, and more. And I’m willing to bet you know someone who’s dealt with, is dealing with, or will deal with some sort of health-related challenge, too – because we’re all human. But we don’t talk to each other enough about what we’re going through every day – the little struggles, the big challenges, or the seemingly small wins or life-altering changes that have helped us along the way.If you enjoy having honest conversations about health, well-being, and thriving in a health-hostile world and you like what you hear, please subscribe and leave a review of the podcast. It will help others discover something they might need to hear that day.
