What Is Me—and What Is Not?

In this episode, I share a meditation experience that surprised me—one that gently revealed the difference between what I am… and what I’ve been carrying. We begin with a card from my DREAMER Path Oracle Deck—Dream of Air—an invitation to trust that our dreams are held, carried, and transformed in ways we may not always see. From there, I reflect on a recent meditation practice shaped by my return to the Liberate Meditation Coach training—a simple but powerful shift from complexity to presence. In that space, something unexpected happened.A familiar pattern—anxiety, self-judgment, not-enoughness—took on a form of its own.Not something to fight. Not something to fix.But something to see… thank… and gently release. And in its place, something alive emerged. I also share a guided meditation you can return to anytime🧘‍♀️ The PracticeIn the second half of this episode, I guide you through a gentle meditation: Grounding into the body and the earth Imagining being held and supported Allowing a thought, feeling, or pattern to take form Meeting it with kindness and curiosity Letting it go (if and when you’re ready) Receiving a gift in its placeYou might like to: lie down or sit comfortably hold a pillow or weighted blanket place a hand on your heartThis is a practice of awareness, not force.🌿 A Gentle ReflectionWhat if what we carry… isn’t who we are?And what might become possiblewhen we see it clearlyand let it soften?💛 InvitationI’d love to hear about your experience.Have you ever noticed something you’ve been carrying take shape in a surprising way?You can share in the comments or simply reflect quietly.🌙 Closing BlessingWishing youdeep peace, soft grounding, and maybe…a little more puppy energy 🐾 This is a public episode. What was never lost

✨ Episode DescriptionIn this gentle, heart-centered episode, I explore what it means to return to ourselves—not by becoming someone new, but by remembering what has always been there.Inspired by a childhood drawing, a dream of music, and a meditation with the spirit of a willow tree, this reflection weaves together memory, creativity, and healing. We also explore the idea of the “pain body” and how it can quietly shape our thoughts, emotions, and sense of self—and how awareness allows us to soften its hold. The episode closes with a guided meditation centered on the playful and nourishing affirmation:“I relish each delicious moment.”An invitation to bring lightness, presence, and even a little joy into your practice.🎴 Oracle Card PullThis week’s card:Protector of SoundA reflection on: harmony and belonging being held in a larger field of connection the healing and protective power of sound🧘‍♀️ Meditation PracticeIn this episode, I guide you through a gentle, accessible meditation: settling with heart-centered breathing counting the breath from 10 to 1 returning to the breath with kindness when the mind wanders introducing a playful affirmationAffirmation:I relish each delicious momentYou’re also invited to explore your own words—those that spark joy, curiosity, or a sense of wonder.🌿 A Note on PracticeMeditation doesn’t have to be rigid or serious. This is an invitation to: soften expectations trust yourself bring playfulness back into your practiceThere is no “right way”—only your way.💛 ReflectionWhat if the parts of you that feel lost…are simply waiting to be remembered? What words, images, or sensations help you return to yourself?🌙 InvitationHave you ever reconnected with a younger version of yourself in an unexpected way?Or found a word, image, or feeling that brings you back to presence?I’d love to hear what resonates with you. Learning to Miss the Ground

In my Substack post this week,I wrote about learning to miss the ground, finding the balance between gravity and levity. It was inspired by this quote by Douglas Adams."There is an art, it says, or rather a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties."I have been practicing focus meditation over the last couple of weeks as I retake the Liberate Meditation Coach training I first did a few years ago.So I thought I would share that simple meditation with you. This week I'm just counting my breath, counting up to 10,then counting from 10 back to one.Simple, but not always easy.Douglas Adams talks about learning how to fly, but I think this is really, for me, about finding this balance between levity—humor, whimsy—and gravity. But not gravity as in overly serious or gravity as being burdened, but gravity as in being held by the earth and by our life.I find this simple practice of breathing and counting helps.I hope it helps you, too.So try this with me. And let me know what you think.Wishing you Love and Balance,Susan This is a public episode. In the Current

Hi…This week, my Substack post reflects on something tender. It began with a moment—standing on my bathroom scale—and noticing how quickly an old story can rise up…a story about being too much.Maybe you know that feeling. In this short practice, I invite you to pause with me…to step out of the story, just for a few minutes…and to explore what it might feel liketo soften…to let go of the armor, even a little…and to rest in something deeper than those old patterns. There’s nothing you need to fix here.Just an invitationto breathe…and to be.This simple practice of focusing on the breath and breathing in peace and breathing out peace is one you can carry with and use anywhere and anytime. There's also an invitation, while you are being carried by the current, to listen to what your heart longs to tell you right now.I hope this practice supports and nourishes you. With love and gratitude,SusanBeautiful Dreamer Society is a reader-supported publication. What if We Were Already Enough?

In this week’s episode, I explore a simple but surprisingly difficult question:What if we were already enough? This reflection grew out of my own experience of learning to rest—really rest—after a period of illness, and noticing how deeply the habit of “not enough” runs, both personally and culturally.Along the way, I meet some familiar inner voices (including my not-enoughniks, now reformed into a rather unruly Council of Elders), and begin to question the stories we’ve inherited about productivity, worth, and rest. This episode includes a short, gentle guided practice—an invitation to pause, soften, and explore the possibility that you are already enough, just as you are.You don’t have to believe it.Just notice what happens when you let the question in.With love,Susan This is a public episode. The DREAMER Path Oracle Deck: Following My Own Path

I’ve had a nourishing relationship with tarot and oracle cards for many years now. I bought my first deck—the Motherpeace deck: A Way to the Goddess Through Myth, Art, and Tarot by Vicki Noble. It’s still one of my favorite decks. The book is now held together with a large rubber band.Over the years, I bought a few other tarot decks and eventually found oracle decks. Simpler in structure, often, than tarot, but still rich in imagery and spiritual connection.I don’t remember when the idea to make my own deck first came—only that it stayed with me.Why I Needed to Create ThisAs a writer and artist, I’m drawn to ways of bringing art and writing in a poetic and spiritual way.I longed for a deck that created a container of joy and light—to hold us through the ups and downs of life.I have known the dark—grief, loss, fear.I have denied these feelings in myself, not knowing how to face them. And I have known light—joy, love, community. They can both exist together.I wanted to create a deck to help us remember that even at our darkest moments, we are seen, known, and loved exactly as we are.I wanted to create a pause in the busyness of our lives.A place to find sweetness, hope, and inspiration.A small light. From Idea to Form (with a lot of help along the way)This seemed like a great idea, but I had no idea how to even begin creating and organizing it.And then something shifted.I began.I created a structure connected to the seven chakras and the elements. I made up elements to go with the higher chakras, as they didn’t have physical elements associated with them. I decided on seven cards for each “suit”—mirroring the chakra journey in each suit. Then I added the earth star and soul star chakras. I wanted a prime number of cards, so I did 5 cards for each of these, ending up with 59 cards (although I sometimes wished I’d decided on fewer!).From the journal entries, I created the guidebook. I used Affinity Photo to paint the cards on my computer. There was lots of technical learning as I figured out how to structure the book. And creative challenges as I decided what to leave in and what to take out. This oracle deck is a product of my wonderful community—plus lots of persistance and play.Oh, and this story wouldn’t be complete without mentioning that I wrote and published the DREAMER Path book in the middle of all of this deck creation. The book and deck wove together in lovely ways. Connected and yet distinct. Each is a tool (or toy) for following the DREAMER path to “rest, renewal, and your authentic self.”Try it With MeThis week’s podcast (and video) includes me pulling a card (you’ll have to watch to find out which one). I share the prompts and reflect on what the card means to me. And it ends with a short guided meditation inspired by the card.If This Speaks to YouThis deck has become a gentle companion for me. Each time I look at it, I discover something new. When I pick up the deck, I feel proud and amazed that I actually did it. But I also feel humble. For I know this deck came from many hands—both seen and unseen. It’s something I return to again and again. It’s Susan-flavored spirit made visible. This deck is playful, whimsical, and delicious. One friend described it as “sweet.” Like a warm chocolate chip cookie for your soul. You can explore the deck here. (The deck creation process included setting up an online shop—one more tech challenge.)And from now until Earth Day 2026, I’m offering free shipping within the U.S.Would You Like Me to Pick a Card for You?You don’t need to believe anything in particular. It’s not about predicting the future. It’s about finding insight and inspiration. Just bring your curiosity—and a question you want insight on, if you have one (you don’t have to tell me what it is, just hold it in your heart). If you’d like me to pull a card for you, leave a note in the comments, and I’ll share a card with you.In the meantime, I wish you love and light, and gentle guidance when you need it,xoxoSusanBeautiful Dreamer Society is a reader-supported publication. Riding the Thermals

In this week’s episode, I explore the inner landscape of the nervous system through two familiar (and very different) images:🐔 Chicken Licken — the part of us that panics when we feel like everything is falling apart🦅 The Eagle — the part of us that can rise above, see clearly, and move with calm awarenessThrough story, reflection, and sound, this episode is an invitation to notice both.In this episode:• The story of Chicken Licken is a surprisingly accurate image of overwhelm• The contrasting image of the eagle riding the thermals—effortless, spacious, and awareWe all have both of these within us.The voice that says, “The sky is falling…”And the quieter presence that can see more clearly. As you listen, notice what you feel in your own body.Is there a place of tension? Is there also a place of ease?No need to change anything—just notice.About the audioThis recording is a blend of:• Storytelling (a playful retelling of Chicken Licken)• Gentle vocalizing and sound (including singing bowl tones) to evoke the spaciousness of the eagleI have just moved my recording setup and I apologize for the balance between spoken word and singing bowl being a little off. It's a work in progress! You may want to listen in a quiet space, or even with your eyes closed.ReflectionWhat helps you return to your “eagle” when the sky feels like it’s falling?I’d love to hear your thoughts—feel free to share in the comments. With love and gentle breezes,Susan This is a public episode. The Wild and Woolly Goddess of Wonder

In this week’s audio, I share the opening reflection from my Substack post The Wild and Wooly Goddess of Wonder, along with three chapters of a story I wrote several years ago called The Woolgatherer. This story emerged from a period when I challenged myself to write one children’s story each week, complete with an illustration. This story grew out of wandering imagination, bits of old stories, and the quiet magic that appears when we allow ourselves to “woolgather.”In this recording, you’ll hear:• A short reflection on wool, spinning, and the surprising wisdom of woolgathering• The rediscovery of the Wild and Woolly Goddess of Wonder• Chapters 1, 2, and 5 of of the fairy-tale story The Woolgatherer, introducing Laurie, Princess Johanna(Jazz), and a mysterious toad who may not be what he seemsWoolgathering once meant wandering through fields collecting stray bits of wool caught on bushes and fences. Over time, the phrase came to mean daydreaming or letting the mind wander. It came to be thought of as a waste of time. But perhaps woolgathering is not such a bad thing.Sometimes wandering thoughts are how stories begin. And sometimes those stray fibers of experience can be spun into something warm, beautiful, and—if we’re lucky—something surprisingly golden.🌿 InvitationI’d love to hear your thoughts about the story.Would you like to hear more of The Woolgatherer in a future episode? You can leave a comment or reply on Substack. With warmth and wonder,Susan This is a public episode. A Moonlight Serenade for my Clarinet

A few days ago, I took my clarinet to a music store in Fort Collins and left it there. For good. I donated it to a program that provides instruments for students who otherwise couldn’t afford them. I hadn’t played it in years, but letting it go felt tender — I was saying goodbye to a companion who had traveled with me through long and important chapters of my life.Since letting go of my old friend, I've been flooded with memories. My clarinet carried almost sixty years of memories — music, friendships, band camps, concerts, laughter.Letting it go didn’t erase those things. If anything, it reminded me how alive they still are in me.What I realized is that I didn't miss my actual clarinet, but making music with others. And it left me with a quiet question—one I can live into now, in my post-clarinet world:If what I really miss is making music with others…What new form might that take? With Love and Gratitude,Susan This is a public episode. The angels say: You’ll See Us When You Can See Yourself

In meditation and in quiet moments throughout the day, I speak with the angels who guide me. Sometimes I hear them as a voice within. A few times, when I was offering sound healing, I heard them singing with me — although it startled me so much that I lost my focus and only heard them for a moment. Sometimes I ask a question in my journal and let the answer flow through my hand onto the page. But I have this longing to see them — even though it scares me a little.Today, I asked in meditation if I would ever be able to see them. The answer came:You’ll see us when you can see yourself. One of those mind-blowing moments.Because I know I don’t see myself in all my wholeness most of the time.In this week's podcast, I muse on seeing myself, mirror-gazing (or not), and clearing inner and outer clutter to make room for seeing myself more clearly. In my journey toward calming my nervous system. I discovered my inner greatest hits playlist. Singing is also a way to connect with myself and angels--and to take up space in a way I often avoid. I share a couple of these songs in this week’s recording.Do you have songs that bring you peace? Songs that carry you back to a particular time or place? If so, sing them out loud. Let them vibrate in your chest, through your whole body. See what rises in you. What’s on your inner playlist?I’d love to hear. With love and gentle melodies,SusanBeautiful Dreamer Society is a reader-supported publication. A Seed Dreams Beneath the Frozen Earth

In this episode, I reflect on two simple writing prompts — Valentine’s Day and early spring — and the memories it stirred.I share stories from my years teaching kindergarten: glitter and glue, heart-shaped piñatas (architecturally sound, emotionally symbolic, completely impenetrable!), and the Queen of Hearts dancing her way toward love and forgiveness. But beneath the crafts and crowns was something deeper.Ritual.Circle.Connection.The warmth that begins underground before spring arrives.I found myself wondering:Why do we think whimsy belongs only to children? What if play is a doorway? What if ritual is medicine? Can wonder be for grown-ups?This episode is a reflection on longing, creativity, and the quiet season of dreaming something new into being. At the end, I share a simple humming and pentatonic lyre recording — a gentle practice I used in my classroom to bring calm and warmth.Watch the Valentine’s Day CircleHere is the Waldorf Valentine’s Day Circle I mention in this episode:🎥 YouTube Video:You’re welcome to sing, move, or simply listen.Download the Words (PDF)If you’d like the written words from the circle, you'll find a downloadable PDF in my Substack post.A Seed Dreams Beneath the Frozen EarthThe earth does not rush the seed. She holds it in the dark.Warms it.Waits.I am learning to rest and trust. With love,SusanP.S. Reawakening Wonder

Welcome to this week's podcast and audio recording. As I continue to rest and heal,I wanted to share a simple practice:humming and playing my pentatonic lyre. This is something I did for many years in my classroom with my little ones, anywhere from two to five years old, usually during playtime. If the children were getting a little out of themselves, I would take out my lyre and sing and hum and play a little bit.And it almost always would bring calm, warmth, and love to our space. There were many reasons the children might be getting out of themselves. It might be what they had for breakfast or how they slept last night. It might be too much sensory input or too much exposure to media and the adult world.Or it might just be their growing bodies that needed time to organize themselves.Goodness knows we could all use some soothing and support these days.So I hope you enjoy this little offering. With Love and Wonder,SusanBeautiful Dreamer Society is a reader-supported publication. Beautiful Dreamer Society Nap-in: A sacred rest circle

This past weekend, we gathered live here on Substack for a Nap-In — a soft circle of rest and restoration.I opened by reading from Rest Is Resistance, Rest Is Sacred, then shared a fairy tale: “The Poor Miller’s Boy and the Cat” — a story about quiet devotion, listening, and the kind of wisdom that grows in silence. After the story, I sang lullabies and played crystal singing bowls, Koshi chimes, and tuning forks (though their vibration is softer than the microphone could capture). Still, the atmosphere lingers — and you’re warmly invited to return to it.Note: The tuning forks used during this Nap-In were tuned to Alpha and Theta brainwave frequencies — supporting calm presence and dreamlike depth, even if they can’t be clearly heard in the recording. I also used my 528 Hz tuning fork—also known as the miracle tone. You can listen while lying down, resting your eyes, or letting the sound become a soft cocoon. Headphones or earbuds are recommended.Whether you drift off or stay fully present, it’s all good.Thank you to those who joined live. Sacred Rest in the Loving Arms of the Divine Feminine

This sound bath was created as a sanctuary of sacred rest — a space to surrender, soften, and be held.Layered with voice, crystal singing bowls, ocean drum, Koshi water chime, and heartbeat rhythm, it invites you to return to the elemental rhythm of life. This soundscape is attuned to the second (sacral) chakra—the center of creativity, emotion, and the element of water within you. It also celebrates this month’s journey through the second step/chapter of the DREAMER Path: Resting in the Arms of the Divine Mother. There are no spoken words in the sound bath itself — just vibration, silence, and song. It begins and ends with three gentle strikes of a crystal singing bowl—an opening and closing ritual of sound.Take a moment for yourself.Lie down, close your eyes, and let the sound carry you home.New this month: Brainwave Tuning ForksYou’ll also hear subtle tones from brainwave tuning forks, played over a resonance box. These frequencies were carefully selected to support the body’s natural rhythms and invite you deeper into a state of sacred rest.* Alpha waves at the beginning and end guide you into calm, grounded presence.* Theta waves open the dream space — the liminal realm where intuition, healing, and creativity flow. You can read more about how these tones work in the Sacred Rest Listener’s Guide below.🎧 For the full experience, listen with headphones or quality speakers in a quiet space.A Gift for You—and an InvitationI created this sound bath as a special gift for my paid subscribers. But this month, I’m offering it to all of you—as a thank you, and to share a deeper rest with all who need it.If this nourishes you, I’d be honored if you’d considered joining The Beautiful Dreamer Society. Traveling Light: What we carry, what we let go

This week’s meditation is about releasing what no longer serves us and welcoming home the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden away. Releasing that which no longer serves and reclaiming what does allows us to travel light. We all carry “bits and bobs”—fragments of memory, emotion, and self that we tucked away for safety or forgot in the rush of life. This playful sound-story meditation is an invitation to set them free, so they can return and make you whole again. It pairs with this week’s Substack post, Traveling Light, where we reflect on what we’re ready to leave behind and what joyful things we want to bring along on the journey.🌿 In this meditation, you’ll be guided to:Imagine releasing what you no longer need to carry.Call back the hidden parts of yourself with curiosity and kindness.Rest in the sense of wholeness that emerges when all your pieces are welcomed home.✨ Length: about 29 minutes🎧 Best listened to: somewhere comfortable, where you can rest and let your imagination wander.May this practice help you breathe a little easier, laugh a little more, and remember—you are already whole. Reiki Mantra Sound Bath: Cho Ku Rei

Note: Every month, I create and share a sound bath just for my paid Beautiful Dreamer Society Members. These offerings are currently open to everyone—free and paid. In the future, there will still be occasional events open to all.“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff.” (Carl Sagan)I remember learning about atoms in the third grade. What I didn't learn was that atoms are 99% space—and so are we. Isn't that amazing? We seem so solid, but it's an illusion. This month’s sound bath is an invitation to explore that space—not just the space between atoms, but the space within you.Trevor English says it this way:Everyone in the world is made up of nothingness. While that may sound grim, it’s the truth. In fact, everyone currently on earth, all 7.6 billion of us, we could all fit into the room you’re in right now. The entire human race, every single person, could all be compressed into a solid cube with the equivalent size of a sugar cube – all because we are made up of nothingness. From the vast emptiness of atoms to the subtle energy fields within us, it’s not such a big leap. Imagine your body as a garden full of vibrant flowers. You tend your plants by watering them and removing the weeds. Reiki works similarly, clearing away energetic blockages and nourishing your soul's garden. What is Reiki healing?Reiki (pronounced as ray-key) is a Japanese healing technique that taps into the universal life force—the energy of unconditional love—to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The word itself translates to spiritual energy or universal life force. The essence of this transformative practice is directing the flow of this energy. Reiki can be directed toward people, animals, spaces, situations—anything that could benefit from healing energy. At its core, Reiki healing revolves around the idea that we are not just physical beings but also vessels of energy. When this energy becomes blocked or imbalanced, it can manifest as physical ailments or emotional distress. Reiki acts as a catalyst for restoring harmony and balance within these energetic pathways. It helps the body to relax and heal. The reiki practitioner isn't "fixing" you, but instead, she channels universal healing energy to you so you can heal yourself, using the wisdom of your own body.Often, a Reiki master will channel this energy through her hands, but it can also be carried in our voices and our intention. Becoming a Reiki master has been a source of great joy—and a dream come true for me. I love to share this healing modality in one-to-one sessions, as well as in group settings. In this month’s sound bath, I work with Cho Ku Rei, often called the power symbol. I channel its energy through my voice and instruments. What does Cho Ku Rei Mean?Cho Ku Rei is a Reiki symbol that means “place the power of the universe here.” It’s used to focus energy, clear excess energy, and invite fresh vitality. I shared the image of it above, but when I work with it, I picture it as three-dimensional.Some Benefits of ReikiReiki may bring about numerous healing benefits. No guarantees, of course, but here are just a few:1. Physical Healing: By enhancing the flow of vital energy, Reiki can accelerate the body's natural healing process, alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and boost the immune system. It is sometimes used in hospitals for this purpose.2. Emotional Balance: Reiki helps release emotional blockages and promotes emotional well-being by fostering a sense of inner peace, joy, and clarity.3. Stress Reduction: The calming nature of Reiki allows for deep relaxation, reducing stress levels and promoting mental clarity.4. Spiritual Growth: As Reiki clears energetic blockages, it opens up pathways for spiritual growth, self-discovery, and a deeper connection to yourself and the universe.A word about the recordingThis is my first time recording with two tracks, and I’m feeling proud. It wasn’t all that hard, but it’s one more technical barrier I’ve hurdled. This sound bath is pure sound—no guided meditation at the beginning or end, as I sometimes include. Just lie down, relax, and receive.I’d love to hear how it lands for you. It’s simple, layered, and full of intention—and I think it’s snazzy. This is part of a monthly rhythm of sound baths offered to my Beautiful Dreamer Society members. For now, they’re open to all.You can explore upcoming Nap-ins and past sound baths [here]Thank you so much for taking the time to read and listen! With love and blessings,SusanBeautiful Dreamer Society is a reader-supported publication.
