ONE THOUSAND), interviewed hundreds of authors and wellbeing experts, and built a global community inspiring 25,000+ to read, reflect, and apply self-development. And now she has written a book - published by the brilliant The Pound Project - called YOU (The Beginner’s Guide), which distils the most important lessons from that decade immersed in the world of self-help. Exploring your wild self through spiritual practices in nature - with Emma Pruen

Hi lovelies, I have such a gorgeous conversation for you today - I’m joined by the wonderful, magnetic Emma Pruen - a speaker, author and alchemist whose new book ‘Wild Self: 400 Transformational Nature Experiences in Britain’ is out on 1st May.It was such a joy to dive into conversation with Emma about Britain’s spiritual and shamanic traditions that so many of us don’t know about - and why, despite living in a place rich with ancient wisdom, so many of us have completely lost touch with it.We talk about:* Why spirituality doesn’t have to look a certain way* How to reconnect with it in a way that actually feels real to you* And how to access it even in the middle of a busy city I learnt so much from this conversation and Emma gave me a tip at the end about how I can tap into that spiritual energy and connection - even when I’m living in a concrete city - that has really stuck with me.So dive into this conversation with us - and come and let me know in the comments what you do to tap into spiritual energy and connection. I’d love to know! And treat yourself to a copy of Wild Self and check out all the wonderful work you can do with Emma - from Family Systemic Constellations, to Shamanic Healing to Wellbeing Retreats.x Selina This is a public episode. How to take care of yourself when life is full on

Following on from last week’s topic of rest and recovery (which it seems a lot of you are craving too) I have an interview that I think you are going to love - all about how to take care of yourself when life is going at full speed. My guest is Dr Jillian Bybee, MD a busy paediatric ICU physician (with a seriously hardcore schedule, dealing with life and death every day), as well as being a mother, transformational speaker, leader, and mindset coach who is dedicated to helping others live the lives they desire.I have been a huge fan of Dr Jillian and her Substack Humans Leading ever since I came across her a few years ago. She is such a wise, warm and incredibly smart human, with so much to teach us about how to live a full on life without burning out.And so I was delighted to finally get the chance to sit down with her and dive deep into the topic of how to take care of yourself when life is full on.In this conversation we talk about:* Why Jillian was drawn to the Goodbye Hello Journal as an anchor - not because her life is quiet, but because it’s full (hospital shifts, leadership, parenting, and everything in between) - and so the journal helps her return to the question ‘how can I take care of myself?’* What it looks like to recover from burnout without giving up ambition (and without making yourself ‘selfish’)* Grief, and the way loss can completely reorder your definition of success * The micro-tools that make a big difference: the ‘check your pulse’ practice, five-minute resets, why ice cold water can calm your stress response, and why eating lunch with a knife and fork can be a surprisingly powerful tool to help you slow down* How medical training encourages people to become “brains in jars”… and why Jillian is actively helping to change that culture from the inside* Jillian’s tips on switching off after an intense day (and why she has a Spotify playlist called Songs to Cry To that her colleagues now request 😭)I left this conversation feeling so inspired, nourished and fired up. There is so much that needs to change about the way we work - especially in the care industries - and it’s so. heartening to hear from someone who’s not just talking about it, but actively helping to shift the culture and leading by example. If you’re someone with a lot on your plate, who wants to live a full life, without burning out, then this conversation is for you.Put it on while you’re getting ready in the morning or cooking your dinner. And try out some of the tips that Dr Jillian shares with us. I can guarantee that they will make a difference. And if you want to follow Dr Jillian (and I strongly recommend you do), » you’ll find her over on her brilliant Substack publication Humans Leading» and she’s also on Instagram at @lifeandpicux Selina This is a public episode. Why I’m Switching My Brain Off This February - Do You Need To Too?

Welcome to February!I like to think of this month as the one where we start laying the foundations for the dreams we want to bring to life over the next 11 months. Just as the seeds are still underground, but starting to stir, I like to think of our dreams and intentions doing the same - quietly moving from imagination into possibility, from dreaming into doing. It’s a month for planning and starting to take gentle action, but it’s still not a month for pushing, particularly if you are in the Northern hemisphere and deep in winter. And if, like me, you’ve been non-stop since before Christmas (small product businesses - I see you!), this could be an important month for recharging your batteries before stepping fully into your next chapter.Which is why this Pep-Talk is dedicated to the essential — and still wildly underestimated — art of rest and recovery:* why we’re so bad at it* why we consistently underestimate its power* and what it actually looks like to do it properly (not just collapsing on the sofa while mentally running through your to-do list)Because while we’re brilliant at pushing through - even when we’re running on empty, even when our bodies and minds are quietly waving red flags - we rarely bring that same level of dedication to rest. And if we want to truly thrive, that has to change.Which is why this February, I’m doing something that feels genuinely radical to me: I am dedicating myself to rest and recovery and letting my mind go fallow. No brainstorming. No planning what’s next. No creative pushing. Just deliberate, unapologetic rest. In fact I already started doing it last week and I have been loving it.So in this episode, I’m sharing how I’m doing it and how you can do it too - whether you do it now in February or save this for the next time you find yourself in need of recharging your batteries. But before we dive in - there’s a favour I want to ask:If you love the Goodbye, Hello journal then I’d be so so so grateful if you could leave a review. Those reviews make an enormous difference to small businesses like mine - and I’ve got a little thank-you prize draw happening this week for anyone who does. Here are the links to make it super easy for you:>> projectyoushop.com >> Amazon.com >> Amazon.co.ukThis week in the Project You Club (TODAY IS THE LAST DAY YOU CAN JOIN!)Here is what we have coming up in Feb (click on the links to find out more):Monday 2nd Feb 1-2pm GMT: ✍️MONTHLY REFLECT & PLAN +Monday 2nd Feb 2-2.30pm GMT: BONUS PLANNING SESSION - take all the commitments from the Reflect and Plan session and schedule them into your calendar (Light and Full Membership) 📺 REPLAY AVAILABLEWednesday 4th Feb - all day: ✅ BONUS FINALLY GET IT DONE DAY A whole day dedicated to clearing the clutter of boring life admin so you can feel lighter, clearer, and proud of yourself for finally ticking them off. The anchors that stop life from sweeping you away - why we need them and how to create them

Hello lovelies, In this week’s Pep-Talk, I’m exploring the importance of having anchors in your life that connect you to your dreams, goals and desires on a regular basis. And how, without them, we can find ourselves permanently lost in a swirl of to-do lists, house admin, work responsibilities and other people’s needs - with our dreams getting further and further away. What I mean by anchor points is intentional pause points in our lives – moments where we step out of the rush of life and ask ourselves:How am I doing - really? What do I need right now to help me to thrive? What dreams do I most want to go after - and what steps can I take? What do I need to schedule into my calendar to help me design the life I want to be living? And they make a HUGE difference. I have realised that anchor points are the key when it comes to going after your dreams, staying on track with your goals and designing a life you love. When you get anchor points scheduled firmly into your life - on a quarterly, monthly or week basis - you will see a significant increase in how many of your dreams come true and how much of your life starts to fill up with the ingredients that bring you joy. And so, in today’s Pep-Talk, I talk about:* Why anchors are SO important in keeping ourselves connected to what really matters to us* Why creative, busy or neurodivergent minds especially benefit from them* The many different forms anchors can take and how to find the right ones for you and your life* And why structure, rhythm and (for many of us) accountability are essential for those anchors to work🤩 Come and try the Project You Club for a month! If you want to come and try the monthly anchor (the Project You Club Reflect and Plan Session) that has made a HUGE difference to my life and a 100+ members in the Project You Club, then now is your chance to try it!🗓️ The next February Reflect & Plan Session is on MONDAY, 2ND FEBRUARY, 1-2pm GMT You can sign up for as little as £9.95/month and unsubscribe at any time. Don't let your dreams get left behind in the pages of your journal

Today I want to talk about an important topic - one that we can forget about when we’re swept up in the dreaming, vision boarding and intention setting at the start of the year. And that is how we’re going to make sure those dreams and desires don’t just remain stuck in the pages of our journals, but actually become a reality. And no, this is not about manifesting. This is about the very practical art of life design. A topic I’ve been dedicated to learning and teaching for the past two decades. In particular I’ve always been interested in how you take the steps you need, to go after your dreams and design the life you really want to be living - when you have a hell of a lot of other stuff going on and a deeply rooted belief that to be a good person you should be looking after the needs of others - and not your own. And so in today’s Pep-Talk I am talking you through the key ingredients that I have found make the biggest difference when it comes to designing your life and turning your dreams into reality. And I also tell you all about the Project You Club - the online membership that is dedicated to helping you turn your dreams into reality. The Project You Club is on its way!The doors open tomorrow night after the Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026 Big Online Share and I’ve added a new Project You Club Light membership option for those of you that are short on time, but want that regular monthly Reflect and Plan Session to help you return to what is important to you at the start of every month and create a plan of how you’re going to take steps towards your dreams and fill your life with the ingredients that help you to thrive. It’s a total game changer. So hit play today to hear what the key ingredients are that will help you take the dreams from the pages of your journal and turn them into reality. And how the Project You Club could help you this year in getting the support, structure and accountability you need to stay on track and designing a life you love 🥰x SelinaP.S. Create it. Live it series before we all head into Christmas.Write It. Create It. Live It. is the series where I talk to people who’ve been using my journal for the past year - or many years - and explore how, step by step, they’ve turned what they wrote on the page into real lives that actually work for them. And in this episode my guest is Ellen Rowland - a true OG when it comes to the Goodbye, Hello journals. She’s been doing them since 2016, back when it was still just a PDF.And her story is such a powerful reminder that designing a life you love doesn’t happen overnight. It happens slowly, often unexpectedly, and usually without a grand plan - by coming back to the same questions year after year, noticing what isn’t working, and gently following what pulls you forward.Ellen shares how, over the past ten years, she’s gone from feeling overwhelmed, unrooted, stuck in toxic work and struggling with her mental health, to having a life and relationship she loves and a deeply fulfilling career as a medical herbalist, specialising in supporting people who are neurodivergent and/or living with mental health challenges to feel well and thrive.Oh and along the way, she accidentally found herself writing a book: The Healing Power of Scent.Ellen is such a wise owl, and she shares so many beautiful insights about what it really takes to create a life that works for you.We also dive into her fascinating work as a medical herbalist, how herbal medicine first supported her own mental health and ADHD, and how she now uses it to help others who are neurodivergent and/or struggling with their mental health. This really is such an inspiring conversation to curl up with - the perfect listen if you’re feeling reflective as the year draws to a close or to keep you company while you wrap Christmas presents 🎁Enjoy!x SelinaP.S. Tiny ways to hibernate in a season that won't slow down

Hey lovelies, How are you getting on in this festive season? This can be a challenging time to keep your energy topped up and flowing - on one hand, winter is calling us to go slow and be still. On the other hand we can find ourselves on a treadmill of non-stop Christmas prep and festive activities. And so I wanted to dedicate today’s Pep-Talk to the art of what I’ve been calling ‘hibernation pockets’ - creating pockets of time in amongst the Christmas chaos to rest, be still and get seriously snuggly.Even a couple of minutes dedicated to hibernating can make a big difference.I also talk about the guilt that can creep in when we dare to put ourselves first at this time of year - and why it’s so important to notice it, name it, and not let it run the show.So if you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, or quietly craving a bit more stillness and space this December, this one’s for you.x SelinaComing up in December and January…1. ✍️ LIVE online Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026 journalling events in December and January with Marianne PowerJoin LIVE Goodbye, Hello journal-alongs with the amazing best-selling author Marianne Power in December and January. The simple tools that help us go after our dreams and design our lives

Hello lovelies,Welcome to December! I love the Christmas season - the mince pies, the sparkling lights, the music, the crafting, the gingerbread house making, the wintery films, all the snuggling under blankets and having an actual real-life tree in the house dripping with lights and homemade decorations. I also love this month, of course, because it is THE Goodbye, Hello season - the season of collectively reflecting and dreaming. This is the month where many of us will crack open our brand new Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026 journals for the first time to start the journey of reflecting back on the year we’ve each been through and watch our dreams and desires for the year ahead emerge on the pages of our journals. Getting to do that process at the same time as thousands of people all over the world, feels utterly magical to me! And so in today’s Pep-Talk… I’m sharing a juicy slice of a conversation I had recently with the wonderful Claire Venus ✨ over on Sparkle on Substack, where we talked about the journal, the power of reflecting and dreaming and the different ways we can help turn those dreams into reality. Claire - who has been doing the journal herself this year - shares how it has acted like an anchor for her through a turbulent year - keeping her grounded, reminding her to pause, helping her find the joy threaded through the hard bits, and nudging her back toward the things that fill up her cup.And we went deep into:* Why reflecting back is just as important as dreaming forward* How quarterly and monthly check-ins help to keep you anchored to what is most important to you* Why even the toughest years hold beauty and wisdom when you slow down enough to look* How turning a five-year vision into something visible (big paper, felt tips, wall!) is a really power way to actually help it come alive* The magic that happens when you keep your dreams in front of you, not hidden in a closed journal* The power of doing these check-ins and reflections together - both for the accountability and the inspiration it offersThis conversation left me feeling so filled up and inspired. I’ve included a juicy slice of it in today’s Pep-Talk - and you can watch the whole conversation, over here 🤩The Big Online Share - Goodbye 2025, Hello 202 Since this conversation I have now set a date for the Big Online Share - the 20th January, 2026! What it's REALLY like to be in the messy middle of a big career change

Hello lovelies,I’m back this week with another episode from my new Write It. Create It. Live It. series and this one is such an exciting one.I’m joined by Dani Rayner, who has been doing the Goodbye Hello journal for the past three years, and this year she’s taken a huge, brave and wildly exciting leap - escaping the corporate cage (and a job that sounded amazing on paper) to build a new life centred on adventure, freedom, social impact, community and a deeper connection to the outdoors.Sounds like the dream, doesn’t it? But Dani is also keen to share the realities of taking a leap like this. Because exciting though it might sound - as she is discovering (and as I know well) - that kind of leap comes with a big and unavoidable dose of doubt and fear. Navigating that is the hardest part of the journey. And of course it is. When you’re making a big change in life and taking a leap of faith into the unknown, there is no other option, than to hold your nerve and make your way through the messy middle and all the uncertainty that comes with it.Because - as we talk about in the episode - you simply cannot make a change this big without stepping into the unknown. And that is both terrifying and exciting in equal measure. But I promise you, when you get to the other side - and that new career path becomes your new reality - you will be so glad you stuck it out and kept moving forward through all the uncertainty. So today, we dive deep into the reality of bringing about big change in your life, and how:* Hitting rock bottom can sometimes be the very moment that clears the way for what’s next* Shedding an old identity is often far messier - and far more freeing - than people talk about* Setting intentions (like Dani’s word of the year, ‘Intrepidity’) can quietly guide you towards a life you didn’t even know you were ready for* Letting go of the ‘shiny’ path can lead you towards a life that feels meaningful, aligned, and truly yoursThis conversation is honest, moving, brave, and full of the kind of wisdom that only comes from someone who is right in the messy middle of the leap - not looking back on it from the safety of the other side.I absolutely loved this interview, and I think you will too. Particularly if you’re standing at your own crossroads – or secretly dreaming of a big leap.🎧 Hit play on today’s Pep-Talk above to hear some of the golden nuggets from this brilliant conversation with Dani. And for the full interview (which I really recommend watching) - here is the video on YouTube. And then make sure you go and follow Dani and her adventures - you’ll find her YouTube, instagram, Tiktok and LinkedInAnd if you’re ready to bring about change - big or small - in 2026, order your Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026 journal TODAY!Your future self will thank you 💛x Selina This is a public episode. Feeling frazzled before the week's even begun? This one’s for you 💛

Last week I woke up on Monday morning feeling shattered. And not just the kind of tiredness that comes from a couple of late nights or a busy weekend. I mean the kind of bone tired exhaustion that comes from over doing it for some time. It’s a level of exhaustion that once upon a time I would have met with a strong coffee, a stern word with myself and a to-do list that looked like a military operation. Exhaustion, in those days, was something to override, not listen to.But - I’m glad to say - those days are long gone. Now, when I feel that kind of bone weariness and depletion - particularly on a Monday morning - I see it as a big fat warning sign: that something is wildly off kilter and needs to be addressed. Immediately. And so, before the day had even begun, I downed tools, took a step back and got to the heart of what was causing me to feel so worn out.And within just a few days I was back to feeling fully rested and energised. Which felt nothing short of miraculous. So this week’s Pep Talk is for you if you’ve been feeling frazzled, overstretched, running on empty or just quietly aware that the way you’re operating right now just isn’t sustainable.I want to show you how to course-correct and identify what simple things will help you to unfrazzle yourself and get your energy back in a short space of time. And let’s all agree together that, as we head into the Christmas period, we don’t normalise feeling utterly shattered all of the time. And that if we do, we see it as a sign that we need to stop and take a look at what we need to fill up our cups and recharge our batteries - even 8 minutes lying on your bed, staring at the ceiling can make a surprisingly big difference (as you’ll hear in the episode 😂)!x Selina This is a public episode. How I've designed a life I get to thrive in with ADHD

Do you know what? I am absolutely loving recording this new series in the podcast - Write it. Create it. Live it. So often we hear podcasts filled with the voices of celebrities or experts — and don’t get me wrong, I love inviting experts onto Another Way to offer up their advice and insights into how to design a life you love. But there’s something that feels quietly rebellious and deeply moving about dedicating a series to ordinary people - people like you and me - who are courageously going after their dreams and learning how to create ways of living and working that truly work for them. And today’s conversation is such a beautiful example of that.I’m joined by Annelie Wambeek who’s been using the Goodbye Hello journal (and been a member of the club) for the past three years.Having been through periods of anxiety and depression in her life - and after many years of feeling trapped in a corporate job that eventually burnt her out - Annelie has gone on to change career and create a way of living and working that really works for her.In this episode we talk about:* How the combination of the journal - plus the live quarterly, monthly and weekly check-ins in the club — have become an important anchor in her life - helping her to manage her ADHD and support her mental health* How some of us simply aren’t suited to traditional ways of working - so much so that they can break us. And so finding another way is a necessity, not just a choice..* The guilt so many of us carry when things are “good enough” - that feeling that we shouldn’t ask for more when there’s so much suffering in the world. And how learning to thrive, rather than just survive, isn’t selfish - it’s an act of service. Because when we’re full, we have so much more to give. This conversation is full of wisdom, warmth and practical insight - from reframing self-care as a necessity, to realising that “the grass is greener where you water it.”I found it deeply nourishing and I think you will too.I’ve added a section of the conversation into today’s episode and you can watch the full video interview over on the new Project You YouTube channel. And you can find out more about Annelie and her work over on Linkedin and her website: www.anneliewambeek.comAnd if you’d like to come and join the club that is designed to help you create a life that you get to thrive in - then come and check it out over here.Hope to see you in there!x Selina This is a public episode. She wrote her dream life in her 'Goodbye 2024, Hello 2025' journal - two months later, she was living it

Hi lovelies, Guess what? I’ve launched a brand new series - Write it. Create it. Live it - dedicated to celebrating and exploring the ways that Goodbye, Hello journal fans have gone after their dreams and designed lives they love. And wow, are we kicking off with a juicy one! At the start of the year Genelle Aldred wrote a clear picture of her dream life in the pages of her ‘Goodbye 2024, Hello 2025’ journal. After years of being single she was ready for a romantic relationship and as she dreamed of her future, sitting in her flat in London, she pictured herself living with her partner and his family in a two storey townhouse, with a beautiful kitchen and a garden. Two months later, she was living that dream life. I KNOW.Even I - as a long-term believer that we are here to turn our dreams into reality - could not believe how quickly it all happened. And so I had to have Genelle as the first guest on my new brand series: Write It, Create It, Live It - celebrating real people who’ve used the Goodbye Hello journal to design lives they love, and exploring how those written dreams have become reality.Because I truly believe that we all have a very real kind of magic at our fingertips - the power to dream things up and then make them happen. But the speed at which Genelle went from dream to reality is something I don’t often see. And so I invited her to be the first guest on the series, so that we could unpack it all and take a look at what had been some of the key factors that had helped to make that big dream come true. You can watch the full conversation over on the brand new over on the Project You YouTube channel (please do subscribe and give it a thumbs up - it helps so much!). But for now, I wanted to share a powerful clip from our conversation - that I think will give you a lot to think about. So hit play, tune in and then come back and let me know what you think. Did she manifest it, was it down to luck, or was it simply that she was finally ready to take her dream seriously. Maybe it was a mixture of all three. I’d love to hear what you think. And if you want to find out more and connect with Genelle (I highly recommend her podcast) here are her links:genellealdred.comframeshiftadvisory.comlinkedin.com/in/genellealdred/Repeat That Again Please - her brilliant podcastAnd her brilliant books: Communicate for Change and The Confident MindsetAnd if you haven’t yet ordered your Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026 journal yet, don’t leave it too late. I have a confession to make: most planners don't actually work for me

You know that feeling when you open a brand-new planner - full of hope - only to find yourself totally uninspired or overwhelmed by it, the moment you start to use it?That’s me - every time. I have never found a planner that works for me. I want something that feels simple and enjoyable to use, while actually helping me to do the things I want to do. But I have always found that traditional planners are simply not designed for creative, busy, slightly-chaotic brains like mine. They’re too grey, too rigid, too boring. So for some time now I’ve been dreaming of creating Project You life design tools that do work for brains that need simplicity, inspiration and dopamine colours to stay on track and engaged in their plans. Tools that will help you and me design our lives, plan our weeks, and turn our dreams and ideas into reality (without burning out in the process). And so in today’s Pep-Talk I dive into the topic of getting things done - and the importance of getting all the to-dos out of our heads, onto a page and into a system. I invite you to take a look at the systems that you are currently using - what’s working and what’s not - and what you could add to make your system even more effective. And then I’d love to hear from! 💡 I’ve made a super-quick survey to find out what’s missing for you when it comes to planning, staying on track, and getting things done and what Project You life design tools and support you’d most love me to create next!I’m running a live brainstorming event! If you want to dive even deeper into this with me, join me live on Monday 4th November, 7pm UK time, when we’ll brainstorm together and start shaping what the new tools and system could be. I already have a lot of ideas to discuss with you, but I really want to hear your thoughts and ideas - and what you actually want.So excited to see what new Project You life design tools grow out of this! 🥳✨🗓️✨x Selina This is a public episode. What if choosing the safer ‘Plan B’ is actually what’s keeping you stuck?

What if the reason you’ve been feeling stuck, flat, or a little “off” lately isn’t because you’re doing anything wrong… but because somewhere along the way, you swapped your Plan A for a safer Plan B? The dream that once lit you up got quietly replaced with something that felt more “sensible,” more realistic — something you thought would tide you over until things felt easier, safer, more stable. But here’s the thing: that so-called sensible choice might actually be what’s holding you back.We tell ourselves we’re being practical. We’ll go after the big dream later, when the timing’s better, when things feel less uncertain, when the world calms down a bit. For now, we’ll stick with what’s safe - what seems achievable. But before we know it, that ‘temporary’ Plan B starts to become THE plan. And somewhere in the process, we lose touch with the excitement, purpose, and possibility that comes from chasing what we really want. This is something that has been coming up again and again lately - in my coaching sessions, talking with friends - and I even realised it’s what had been happening to me before I finally realised that I needed to go after my Plan A - my journals business. And so, in this week’s Pep-Talk, I really wanted to dive into this topic and explore why so many of us at the moment are choosing Plan B over Plan A, how not going after what you really want can actually be the very thing getting you stuck and the magic that so often happens, when you do finally take the leap and go after Plan A.🎧 Listen to this week’s Pep-Talk and let me know what you think in the comments!x SelinaP.S. 'Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn' - a guided exercise to cure end-of-summer blues & get you feeling ready for autumn

How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?For me, saying goodbye to summer always feels hard.It is always tinged with sadness, as if all the fun is coming to an end.In fact my end-of-summer blues got so bad a few years back that I finally decided I needed to do something about it.And so, I created a guided journaling exercise called ‘Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn’ to help me say a fond farewell to the summer as it came to an end and then plan what I wanted to make autumn all about, so that I could actually look forward to it.And honestly that simple exercise has been an absolute game changer. Now, not only do I not experience anywhere near the same degree of post-summer blues as I did before, but I actually enjoy the arrival of autumn. And I never thought I’d be able to say that!So if you have been suffering end-of-summer blues since the start of September, or simply want to step into autumn feeling clear about what you want to make this next season all about, then tune into today’s Pep-Talk and let me guide you through the exercise that has made a huge difference to me and a lot of my clients and members who have tried it too. "What if it doesn't work out?!" - how to answer that inevitable question when taking a big leap

Did anyone else feel totally ambushed last week by the arrival of September?! After sending out a Pep-talk about easing into September with good habits and solid foundations, I went on to completely ignore my own advice and found myself sucked headfirst into the back-to-school chaos.Once I finally came up for air, I realised just how easy it is to let life sweep us up and pull us off-track. But instead of beating myself up, I’m giving myself some compassion and grace. Because the truth is - we’re human, and sometimes life is a bit of a whirlwind. And this week is a new week and another fresh start 🤗And speaking of whirlwinds, today I want to dive into that big, scary question that always shows up whenever we take a brave leap or go after a dream: “But what if it doesn’t work out?”It’s a question that can arrive (usually at 3am) drenched in panic and fear, throwing us into a spin. So what should we do with this question when it inevitably arrives? Ignore it? Or listen to it?Well, having witnessed a lot of people face this ‘what if’ question over my decades of coaching and having had to face my own middle-of-the-night ‘what if’ panic recently (because it always happens when you take a leap and embark on a big new dream), I have a lot to say on the matter. And so in today’s Pep-Talk I look at how to answer that question in a way that calms your nervous system, dials down you inner Shitty Committee and helps you move forward with confidence and excitement - and without the crushing pressure that “this has to work or the world as I know it will end”.So if you’re making a big change, chasing a dream, or just hearing that 3am voice whispering “what if…”, this P talk is for you. Hit play and let’s dive in!x SelinaP.S. If you haven’t yet heard, part of my big leap is waving goodbye to 1:1 coaching so that I can lean full time into my journals business. Let's use this back-to-school energy to get back into habits that help us to thrive

September always brings with it that unmistakable back-to-school energy. Even if you don’t have kids, there’s something about this month that whispers: fresh start, new chapter, time to begin again. In this week’s pep talk, I’m inviting you to use that September energy to not just dive into new projects or recommit to old dreams, but to take a step back and ask: how do you want to design your days and weeks so you actually thrive over the next few months? We’ll talk about the small but powerful daily rituals - morning, daytime, and evening - that keep your energy flowing, your wellbeing topped up, and your dreams moving forward. Because I don’t want you racing into September focused only on everyone else’s needs and forgetting about your own.Grab your notebook, or Project You journal and let’s map out the simple habits and foundations that will help you feel good, stay grounded, and bring your big ideas to life in this final third of the year. And if you want to come and join the club (👉 check out what’s on this September) - where you’ll learn how to create a life and career you love, one easy step at a time, hit the button below!⚡️BONUS: Subscribe this September and get a Project You journaling notebook! Is your identity getting in the way of you turning that dream of yours into reality?

We can often think that the biggest obstacles in the way of making our dreams come are obstacles on the outside - not having X, Y or Z. But often the biggest obstacles come from within. And one of the biggest of those inner obstacles is our identity. Because here’s the thing: we can go through all the motions of making that dream come true, but if deep down we can’t imagine ourselves actually being the kind of person who has that dream as their reality…we’ll keep unconsciously blocking it from happening. And so, in this episode I dive into this topic and explore: * Why your identity plays such a huge part in making big dreams real* How your inner Shitty Committee is often holding you back from allowing your identity to grow* And how to evolve your identity to allow for your new dream to come true without changing who you areSo, hit play and let’s see if your identity is allowing you to go after your dreams or the very thing getting in the way - and what to do about it if it is!x Selina This is a public episode. Feeling ready to take the leap? But how do you know if it really IS the right time?

Wow, last week’s Pep-Talk - ‘Are you feeling ready for change?’ - was a popular one! And so this week I decided to follow on from that and talk about the big moment when you stop circling, stop tweaking, stop saying “one day”… and finally decide to take that leap of faith and go after that big dream.I’m right there myself. After 20 years of one-to-one coaching - a career I’ve loved and still believe I was born to do - I’m closing the doors on my 1:1 coaching business this October to focus full-time on building my journals business. It’s exciting, terrifying, and completely the right move. And here’s the thing: fear will always come along for the ride. Our brains are hardwired to resist change, so your inner Shitty Committee will throw every reason at you not to do it. But that fear isn’t a stop sign - it’s simply a sign that you’re stepping into the unknown. In this episode, I’m sharing:* How to tell when it’s really time to leap (and when to hold back)* The role fear plays in every big change* The one question to ask yourself before you jump* Why you’ll never have a perfectly mapped-out plan - and why that’s okayIf you’re standing on the edge of a dream, this one’s for you!Links & Ways to Work With Me:* 1:1 Coaching Strategy Sessions – There are a few spots left before I close my 1:1 practice in October.* Let’s Make It Happen – My brand new 3-month group coaching adventure, starting September - join the waitlist here if you’re interested in finding out more* Join the club – become a paid subscriber to Another Way to join my club and get the support, inspiration and accountability you need to help you go after your dreams and create a life you really enjoy living This is a public episode. Feeling ready for change? Here's how to begin the journey

If you’re feeling bored, frustrated, burnt out - or just quietly dreaming of something new, then this week’s Pep-Talk is for you because I am diving into one of my favourite topics: change. We need to bring about change in our lives in order to grow and flourish, but as human beings we are also hard wired to resist change. Our inner Shitty Committee will almost always think it’s a terrible idea and will fill your head with doubts and fears the moment you even contemplate making a change. That’s why, even when you know deep down that something needs to shift, you can talk yourself out of it before you’ve even taken the first step. And those same doubts and fears can also be the very thing stopping us from dreaming freely, so that we can get clear on what change we want to make and how to make that change happen. And so in this episode, I’ll walk you through how to tell if change is calling you, how to tune into what kind of change you really need, and why it doesn’t always have to mean blowing up your life and starting from scratch. We’ll talk about how to start dreaming freely again, how to spot when you’ve resigned yourself to ‘that’s just how it is’ limiting beliefs and how even small tweaks can make a big difference. And if you’re thinking about making changes to your work or career, I’ll share details on how you can book in for a one-off strategy session with me before I step back from coaching later this year. Yep - I’ll be revealing some big news on that front too!So if you’re feeling ready for change in an area of your life, this Pep-Talk is your invitation to explore what could be next.Hit play and let’s dive in!x SelinaNext steps⚡️ GET MY WEEKLY LIFE DESIGN JOURNALING PROMPTS: Sign up to my Project You weekly life design journaling prompts HERE (they’re free!) - this Wednesday’s exercise is all about change!⚡️CHECK OUT MY CAREER COACHING PACKAGES - WHILE I’M STILL OFFERING THEM! You’re Not Alone (and Here’s What Can Help)This week’s Pep-Talk is for anyone who’s finding the world of work tough right now. The art of FULLY switching off on holiday - why it's hard and how to make sure you really do it this year

With summer holidays fast approaching, this week I want to talk about something a lot of us say we’re going to do… but secretly struggle with:Switching off on holiday. Not just closing the laptop. Not just putting on your out-of-office.I mean really switching off - mentally, emotionally, digitally. And let’s be honest - most of us know by now that this is way harder than it sounds. Our phones are always within reach. The to-do list is still buzzing in our heads. And even when we look like we’re relaxing - lying by the pool with a book by our side - we’re often still semi-plugged in.Half-checking emails. Half-thinking about work. Half-scrolling, half-resting.And when that happens, we don’t get the real benefits of switching off. We don’t drop down into that deeper place where the magic happens - where we truly rest, reset, and reconnect with ourselves. And so that is what this Pep-Talk is all about. In this episode, I’m diving into:* Why switching off feels so weirdly uncomfortable at first* Why it’s not about doing nothing or staring into the abyss (I promise)* What actually happens when you let yourself truly rest* Practical ways to prep for a proper mental switch-off — whether you’re going away or staycationing at homeIf you want your holiday this year leaving you feeling like a lighter, brighter, more energised version of yourself - this episode is your guide. And if you want a written step by step guide to help you to switch off, check out this post of mine below!https://anotherwaywithselinabarker.substack.com/p/your-mini-guide-on-how-to-switchx Seina This is a public episode. The Time to Thrive journal is finally out in the world 🥳 and I am so proud of it.BUT……instead of doing the big, buzzy launch, that I had planned to do, I did something radical instead: I chose to rest. And in this week’s Pep-Talk (back after an unscheduled three week break), I share:* Why I paused instead of launching full-throttle* What this taught me about capacity, overachievement, and my relationship with marketing* Why resting might be the most powerful launch move I could makeIf you’ve ever pushed through when your body said rest, or felt like you “should” do something a certain way, this one’s for you.And you can grab your own Time to Thrive journal here!x SelinaP.S. But productivity itself, is not the enemy. In fact, humans thrive when they are being productive, but only when it’s being done in a healthy way. And this is where the problem lies: we have not been taught what healthy productivity looks like. We’ve been taught to follow the productive habits of machines - and that is what’s been doing all the damage. So in this episode, we take a look at:* Why so much we’ve been taught about productivity is wrong* Why productivity is, in fact, an essential ingredient that helps us to thrive - but only when approached in a healthy way* What healthy productivity actually looks likeSo, grab yourself a cuppa, hit play, and let’s explore what your relationship with productivity is like and whether it is helping you to thrive or causing you to stay stuck in exhaustionx SelinaP.S. Forget self-care - try this instead!

If you struggle with self-care - with knowing how to do it, having the time for it or the desire to actually do it - then you are not alone. I struggled with self-care for years. It felt like another thing on my to-do list. Another should. Another chore. And to the part of me that was driven, ambitious and purely interested in me getting the results I wanted, rest and self-care felt like a threat. Like I was slacking. Wasting time. Getting behind. And so for years I struggled with this internal battle. One part of me - a nurturing, nourishing side that longed for me to feel good and be full of vitality - wanted me to focus on looking after myself and practicing self-care. But another part of me - my drive and ambition - didn’t give a damn about how I felt. It just wanted results. And that was the side that always won. And so for years I powered through, on coffee-fuelled late nights, cramming too much into my days, burning out on repeat. Until finally I stumbled upon the concept of managing your energy. And it changed everything. Suddenly my nurturing side and my drive and ambition were all on the same page. And ever since, they have been team mates that work together to help me both feel good and do my best work.So if you’ve ever felt like self-care just isn’t made for you, then this episode is for you. I’m going to show you how to finally get your inner drive and ambition on board so that it will suddenly want to prioritise you looking after yourself. Every day. And with ease! So, hit play on the episode and let’s dive in!x Selina This is a public episode. Pep-Talk: Why I love burnout

I ❤️ BURNOUT. Yes I do. And in this week’s Pep-Talk I’m going to tell you why. And spoiler: it’s not because I think it’s a fun thing to go through - because it’s definitely not. But because I think we are supposed to go through these big breakdowns, at least once in our lives, in order to grow and transform. Burnout is a powerful ring of fire and it often redirects people onto a different path in life. One where they end up feeling far happier, far more fulfilled and far more connected with themselves and the world around them.So if you’re feeling burnt out right now or you’ve been through burnout in the past - this one’s for you.Because while burnout is awful to go through when you’re going through it, afterwards most people look back and realise it was the best thing that ever happened to them…Let’s dive in and explore why!x SelinaEpisodes and books recommended in this episode:Falling Upward by Richard RohrThe Success Myth by Emma Gannon This is a public episode. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure if I was going to bother doing my Work Quarterly Check-in this time round - I figured that with the ‘Goodbye 2024, Hello 2025’ Quarterly Check-in and the Monthly Reflect and Plan session this coming Friday, that would be more than enough reflecting and planning. But I’m so glad I changed my mind and made the time to do it, because it ended up being a really powerful exercise that has left me feeling really proud of what I’ve achieved in these first three months of 2025 and super clear on my goals for the next three months. And so in today’s Pep-Talk I’m going to guide you through this exercise, so that you can do it too!You can also download the Work: Quarterly Review worksheet hereHit play and let me know how you get on!x SelinaP.S. Pep-Talk: Cutting back the Energy Weeds

Hello lovelies, today’s pep-talk comes to you from Argentina! I’m here with my mum (who is from here) visiting family - we were literally one of the last planes out of Heathrow on Thursday night! Very grateful we made it.My original plan was to record a fresh new Pep-talk about embracing chaos because at the time of recording this pep-talk I was knee deep in chaos. But in the end I decided that the best thing I could do for myself was to make my life easier and instead of adding ‘record fresh new pep-talk’ to my list, I chose to share a pep-talk from the archives - one of the most popular ones, all about cutting back on energy weeds - the things that consume your time and drain your energy. Hit play and let’s look at what energy suckers you might have in your life at the moment - and what experiments you can try this week to cut them back and reclaim your time and energy!X SelinaAnd if you’d like to come to my Quarterly Check-in Workshop this Thursday, 27th March at 7-8pm (not 1pm which I said in the Pep-talk - sorry!), all the details on how to join are below! A Waking Dream for an Audience of One

Today’s episode is a loooong one, but a magical one. My guest is Tiu de Haan - a ritual designer, creative facilitator, and idea doula who has worked with an incredible range of clients over the past 20 years - from Google and the UN to L’Oréal and the Ministry of Justice. Her work involves creating transformative rituals and experiences that help people play, get creative, and shift their perspectives in profound ways. But today, we’re diving into a story that even Tiu, someone who lives and breathes magic, wonder and transformation, describes as one of the most extraordinary, life-changing experience she’s ever had…On the 24th May 2024, Tiu was immersed in a 36 hour transformational experience that had been created by 15 strangers who had spent months studying her, interviewing her, her friends and family so that they could create a unique and transformational experience solely for her - an experience so personal that no one else, not even the creators, witnessed it in its entirety. When Tiu first told me about it, I was amazed and baffled in equal measure. How incredible for fifteen strangers to dedicate so much time to creating a one day transformative experience for someone they didn’t even know, when they weren’t even getting paid for it. But why did they do it? And most important of all, what happened during those 36 hours, because Tiu really did come back profoundly changed by the experience. And so she suggested we hit record and she share every detail of this remarkable journey. And so that is what we did.In this episode we explore:* What Odyssey Works is all about and why they go around getting strangers to spend months creating a one-off experience for an audience of one. Free of charge.* How Tiu got picked to be that audience of one and why she wanted to do it.* How the experience unfolded step by step—and how it utterly transformed Tiu’s life. This is the longest episode I have ever put out into the world, but I didn’t want to cut it down because every moment of this story needed to be told. Plus I figured, as we ease ourselves gently into a new year, why not immerse ourselves into a long juicy conversation about the power of collaboration, creativity, play, transformation, wonder and giving? So, without further ado, here’s my conversation with the extraordinary Tiu de Haan. Enjoy - and don’t forget to check the show notes for links to everything we discuss, including The Odyssey, Tiu’s work, and the powerful track by VLMV.Let’s dive in!x SelinaP.S. What to do when the traditional world of work doesn't work for you

In this final episode of series #1 of Another Way I’m talking with..err…well, me! Yes, I’m flying solo for this episode because I wanted to talk about the topic that I have dedicated the past two decades to: how to create a career you love, particularly when the traditional world of work doesn’t work for you. And if you think you might be one of those people, then trust me, you are not alone. Staggering numbers of people are miserable at work, either because they don’t enjoy what they do or because they are working at such an unsustainable pace that they are burning out from it. In a recent global study by Gallop, it was found that unhappiness at work as it an all time high with two thirds of people feeling miserable and stressed out at work. And while these statistics break my heart to see, they don’t surprise me. The traditional way of working simply does not work for the vast majority of us. I learnt very quickly that it absolutely didn’t work for me and so I had to find another way. And twenty years on I can hand on heart say I love my work and my career. So if you’re feeling stuck on a treadmill of daily grind and exhaustion and miserable in your work, then this episode of Another Way is for you. I dive deep into the topic of how to create a career you love when the traditional world of work doesn’t work for you.Hit play And if you feel ready to find a way of working that really works for you and you’d like me to help you figure out what that work is (and how to make the change), then come and check out my Coaching programmes and book yourself in for a Discovery call with me. x Selina This is a public episode. Unlocking the Power of Sisterhood with Cordelia Taylor

This episode of Another Way is a particularly special one. It’s with my incredible friend Cordelia Taylor who has, in the past five years, since she was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 18 months to live, taught me so much about how to embrace life, how to savour every moment and the incredible power of sisterhood. We have been holding sister circles together for more than six years. It has changed both of our lives and Cordelia is passionate about encouraging women to tap into the power of sisterhood, because it is hands down one of the most powerful sources of love and support that has held her up through her cancer journey. So when a few months ago Cordelia got the devastating news that she only has a few months left to live, we decided it was time to record this podcast episode so that she can share her powerful message of why tapping into sisterhood and the power of sister circles is something she wants all women to try, in particular women going through cancer. And so here is Cordelia’s episode, dedicated to her daughter, Loli. And you can now download the guide to sister circles that I promised to make to go with it. And I also ended up creating a web page for Cordelia to share her sisterhood mission with women going through cancer, to encourage them to start up their own sister circles and you get to see beautiful testimonials by the women in her incredible cancer tribe about the difference sisterhood has made to them.VISIT YOURCANCERTRIBE.COM 💗And if you enjoy this episode please come and let Cordelia know over on instagram @coconutandbuttercup x Selina This is a public episode. Reframing love to make relationships work with Matthew Pruen

If you or anyone you know is struggling in their relationship then this podcast episode is for you.In fact, even if you’re not struggling in a relationship right now, but you want to enjoy a long-lasting nourishing relationship, full of love and intimacy, then this episode is also for you.Because this week we dive deep into the topic of relationships with my special guest, the amazing Relationship Coach, Matthew Pruen.I first came across Matthew’s work three years ago when I attended a Hoffman Relationship Workshop, run by him and his wife Emma. That weekend workshop was absolutely life changing for me and ever since then, any time a friend or client has been struggling in their relationship, I’ve sent them to Matthew and they’ve all had equally life changing experiences with him. There is noone I know who shows us another way of approaching love and relationships quite like Matthew and so I was over the moon when he said yes to coming on the podcast. We explore why so many people seem to be struggling when it comes to relationships, how the Romantic Mythology that dominates our modern-day take on love is setting us up for disappointment in our relationships, why we can get stuck in power struggles for years and what it really takes to create a long-lasting relationship full of trust, love and intimacy. This episode is so rich with wisdom, powerful insights and practical advice from Matthew. I came away from it having had yet more ‘aha’ moments about relationships and where I was getting sucked back into that Romantic Mythology. I can’t wait to hear what you get from it.And if you want to find out more about working with Matthew or Emma visit:matthewpruen.comemmapruen.comretreat.fr This is a public episode. Are you a woman who works too much? Are you fed up with feeling over-stretched, exhausted and trapped on a treadmill of never-ending to-do lists? Then this episode of Another Way is dedicated to you and all the women out there who find themselves working too much.I’m joined by transformational coach, speaker and author, Tamu Thomas, , who is on a mission to show women that there IS another way with her brand new book ‘Women Who Work Too Much’. Join us as we unpack why so many women are working too, what’s really keep us stuck in a cycle of toxic productivity and what we can do to finally set ourselves free and start designing our lives so that we thrive.I cannot recommend Tamu’s book more - ‘Women Who Work Too Much’ is out now.And hit up these links to follow Tamu and find out how you can work with her. BUY Women Who Work Too MuchVISIT LiveThreeSixty to find out how you can work with TamuFOLLOW Tamu here on instagramSUBSCRIBE to her newsletter on SubstackAs with every episode, I give you a coaching exercise to try at the end. Here is the one from today’s episode, inspired by the conversation with Tamu and designed to help you identify what changes you can make in your life right now, that will free you up and have you working less and enjoying life more. Step 1: Write down the work activities that make up your day. Start with the work you have to do each day or each week at home. And then write down the activities you have to do each day or each week at work.Step 2: Read back through the list you’ve just written, marking the activities that you enjoy doing with a heart and the activities that you either don't enjoy doing, or you find you're doing too much with a cross. Step 3: Go one by one through the activities that you marked with a cross and for each one, ask yourself how you could take this activity off your plate so you no longer have to do it at all, how you could get help with it if you can't take it off your plate completely, or how you can make it easier or more enjoyable for yourself (I give examples in the episode).Step 4: Write down a list of activities that fill up your cup, that recharge your batteries and bring you joy. The simple stuff that you can do day to day, everything from having a hot bath to going for a bike ride, to meeting up with friends, to having an early night with a great book.Step 5: Open up your calendar and book in three of those things over the next seven days, setting a reminder alarm on your phone if you need it.If you enjoyed today’s episode, please follow and leave a review! And if you’re ready to learn how to work less and enjoy your life more, come and check out my Coaching Programmes and how they can help you bring about change in your life and career.x Selina This is a public episode. Breaking free from Success Myths with Emma Gannon

Welcome to…Another Way!My brand new podcast where I explore and unpack the collective narratives and limiting beliefs that seem to be keeping so many of us trapped on a treadmill of daily grind and exhaustion and stopping us from living the lives we really want to be living. Over the next six episodes I’ll be joined by an amazing line-up of guests who are each dedicated to shining a light on the collective narratives that are keeping us stuck, showing us that there is another way and how we can each break free from the traditional beliefs that are holding us back, so that we can finally start to thrive. And I cannot wait for you to hear this first episode, where we’ll be diving into the topic of SUCCESS - exploring how our traditional beliefs around success can be the very thing keeping us trapped on that treadmill of daily grind and exhaustion. To help us explore this juicy topic and how to finally break free from our obsession with achievement, I am joined by the amazing Emma Gannon, Sunday Times bestselling non-fiction author, award-winning novelist & creator of popular newsletter The Hyphen.Emma’s latest book, The Success Myth, has been taking the world by storm and is now, officially, one of my favourite books of all time (if you haven’t already got a copy, treat yourself to one today!)It is such a powerful book and one that I honestly believe everyone needs to read, because whether you realise it or not we are all deeply entrenched in beliefs around success that are keeping us trapped and holding us back from living the lives we really want to be living. And in today’s episode you’ll start to unpack your own beliefs around success, to see which ones might have been holding you back and how to choose new measures of success that will actually help you to thrive. So, hit play and let’s dive in!Questions to explore:When you were growing up how did you view success? What were you raised to believe success looked like? What did a successful person look like to you?  What did they have? What had they achieved?  Where did these images of success come from? How do you think that impacted on you growing up? What did it make you think you should be, that you should have, that you should do in life?  Did it have an impact on the choices you made?  Is it still having an impact on you today? Do you compare yourself to those measures of success? And in particular, have you ever found yourself falling short and feeling bad because you haven't achieved that kind of success?  If you were given permission to create a whole new set of rules for what success looks like in our society, what would those measures of success be?  This year, for me, success looks like………………………… (fill in the blank) Have a go and let me know how you get on!And then I’ll see you back here next week for the next episode in the series with Tamu Thomas, author of Women Who Work Too Much.See you then!X SelinaP.S.
