Curiosity Builds Community - A Conversation with Steve Heatherington
Hello Wise Women! Today, I’m bringing you a special conversation I had with my friend Steve Heatherington. This conversation has stayed with me, touching on something I've been thinking about a lot lately—growing old with curiosity, dignity, and wonder. I don’t want the privilege of aging to be weighed down by shame or resignation. And that brings me to my guest today, Steve. Curiosity about how things work is a hallmark of Steve’s life and work. He helps people with something to say and find their voice by using it through learning to podcast. Starting as a student, he now teaches The Podcasting Workshop and is also a Production Partner helping podcasters with their problems and projects. He lives in a small valley in South Wales where he is an alpaca shepherd to a herd of over 30 alpacas. They continuously teach him new things about slowing down and staying curious. They are also the subject of his own podcast - Alpaca Tribe. Steve defies the narrative we’re often told to fade into the background as we get older. Instead, he practices curiosity like a muscle, learning new things every day. I think you’ll find his story just as inspiring as I did. 🎙️ Original Podcast Music by Nadine Kelly (drums and vocals) and Tim Buell; Produced by Tim Buell☕️ Sponsored by Infusco Coffee Roasters.

Practical Wellness: Key Actions for the Six Dimensions of Health
Hello, Health Raisers! I’m so glad to have you here as we wrap up this year together. In this episode, I want to share some actionable, meaningful takeaways from our incredible guests on the podcast. Think of this episode as a warm reminder to pause, reflect, and let what we’ve learned guide us. For each dimension of health—social, emotional, mental, physical, intellectual, and spiritual—we explore three small ways to turn these insights into steps forward, one day at a time. When we talk about Social Health, it’s all about how we show up for others and give ourselves permission to ask for help. In Emotional Health, we learned the value of feeling our feelings and giving ourselves grace. For Mental Health we learn to ground ourselves in ordinary moments—like pausing at a stoplight or listening to the sound of a coffee pour. Let’s not forget Physical Health, where listening to our bodies and adjusting with compassion can make all the difference, especially as we mature. With Intellectual Health, we find curiosity over comparison, encouraging ourselves to keep learning and growing. And finally, in Spiritual Health, we connect to something greater than ourselves, something that gives us hope.I’m so grateful for every guest, every conversation, and for each of you. Whether you’re here for a nudge, a moment of reflection, or a reminder that you’re never alone on this journey, thank you. I hope these takeaways bring you a sense of peace, purpose, and motivation. Here’s to embracing our health, one mindful step at a time. Thank you for being here, for raising your health with me this year, and for showing up for yourself in ways that truly matter. Here’s to another year of growth, community, and transformation.🎙️ Original Podcast Music by Nadine Kelly (drums and vocals) and Tim Buell; Produced by Tim Buell☕️ Sponsored by Infusco Coffee Roasters.

The Happy Brain: How Creativity Boosts Your Wellbeing, with Tim Buell
Welcome to today’s episode, where we explore the transformative power of creativity and its profound connection to our well-being. Mary Lou Cook once said, “Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.”When I spoke with art therapist Kathleen Daly on the YOGI MD Podcast, she highlighted the therapeutic potential of the creative process itself—how it can provide a much-needed "brain break" and offer a means of relaxation, even for those who don't consider themselves artistic. As she put it, “I had used art from a very young age as a way to have fun, explore, process through things. And that was always a tool for me when I wasn't feeling well or needed to think through some stuff.”Art and music go hand in hand to support overall health and wellness. In another YOGI MD episode, music therapist Jeffrey Wolfe emphasized that music allows people to express emotions without words, offering a powerful outlet for feelings. In his work with dementia patients, he uses music to tap into memory and brain function, saying, “Music is one of the last things that we lose... because of how connected all those synapses are in music within the brain. Music is stored deeply within our hippocampus... so we can use that to create new connections in the brain, with brain plasticity, to help repair parts that are damaged.”Studies show that engaging in creative activities can lead to greater happiness. And happiness leads to more creativity. This connection nourishes the mind, body, and soul.In today’s episode, I’m thrilled to welcome back professional Nashville drummer Tim Buell, my friend and drum teacher, to discuss the connection between creativity and well-being. Tim encouraged me to express myself in a new way by creating original music for this podcast, which opened doors to an exciting creative process. As Bruce Lee said, “The creative process is a process of surrender, not control." Join us as we explore how letting go and embracing creativity can transform us.Original Podcast Music by Nadine Kelly (drums and vocals) and Tim Buell; Produced by Tim BuellSponsored by Infusco Coffee Roasters.

Waves of Impact: Remembering Dr. Wallace J. Nichols
In 2020, I read an article in my husband's boating magazine by Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, a marine biologist and the author of "Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do." The piece described the incredible benefits of being on the water for one's health and well-being.Intrigued by the article, I reached out to Dr. Nichols for an interview on my podcast, and to my delight, he gracefully accepted. Our conversation took place over Zoom during the lockdown, leaving quite an impact on me. Dr. Nichols' profound warmth, humility, and dedication to caring for the planet's waterways not only emphasized the incredible connection between water and our well-being, but also personally enriched my understanding of it.Following our chat, Dr. Nichols remained generous with his time, always willing to lend his expertise whenever I reached out. So it was with a heavy heart that I learned that we lost this extraordinary human. This special episode is a tribute to the late Dr. Wallace J. Nichols and originally aired on The Yogi MD Podcast in July 2020. His remarkable legacy continues to reverberate around the globe, and I feel truly grateful to have crossed paths with him. And now, here's our heartfelt conversation...Original Podcast Music by Nadine Kelly (drums and vocals) and Tim Buell; Produced by Tim BuellSponsored by Infusco Coffee Roasters.
