20 - Embracing a Commitment to SELF-CARE, Pt 4
Today Amy wraps up the series - outlining what it truly means to commit to self-care, using the acronym SELF-CARE - by digging into what the letters R and E stand for… “R” Stands for Rest: Whether or not you feel you need rest, your brain needs it! The only time your brain has the opportunity to turn off is when you sleep, whether it’s at night, or just a short, daytime nap. And did you know your brain won’t do that on its own? It’s wired to work hard for us all the time - so ensuring that we (and our brains) get good rest really IS “on us.” “E” Stands for Engage Empowered Thinking: This is thinking that moves us forward and focuses on our accomplishments, abilities, strengths, etc. Unfortunately, however, we often focus on our own faults, flaws, and shortcomings. So this must be an intentional shift. “If we can (reflect on) actual accurate thoughts that are empowering, then the negative …doesn't have as much power over our entire mindset because we've added…balance” ~ Amy Key Takeaways: There are so many benefits to rest: It not only gives our brain a break, it allows us to replenish our energy, and allows our subconscious to process/evaluate/and problem-solve. Empowered thinking takes strategy and practice. With repetition, and over time, the brain begins to recognize these statements and we can use them to move forward when we’re feeling stuck. For more help with this, check out Affirmations with a Twist - an 8-part series of fact-based affirmations that your mind can’t dispute! Stress is one of the biggest barriers to self-care! Stress can, at times, be beneficial. But check yourself with this question: “Am I managing my stress or do I feel like…stress is managing me away from who I am, what I want to do, who I want to be, or how I want to behave?” What takeaway or concept resonated the most with YOU? 19 - Embracing a Commitment to SELF-CARE, Pt 3
Today Amy continues outlining what it truly means to commit to self-care, using the acronym SELF-CARE. She discusses the significance of self-care and challenges the common misconception that it's synonymous with selfishness. Through practical strategies and a focus on mindset enhancement, be encouraged to prioritize your well-being to improve your ability to care for others and fulfill commitments more effectively. Moving forward, today she talks about the letters C and A. “C” Stands for Celebrating Victories: Taking ownership of the good we have done serves us well and grows motivation and momentum towards getting things done! Sometimes we may have to look back and remind ourselves what we have already done in the past to help us realize that we are going to get through things in the future… “I’ve done it before and I can do it again!” “A” Stands for Assign Priorities to Our Demands: We can’t always change “due dates” on work projects or deadlines. But we can recognize that not everything can or has to be done today. By asking a simple clarifying question, we can often take the pressure off of ourselves and give ourselves the ability to work at a healthy pace. Experiment with some of the scheduling strategies that Amy outlines. “When we look at (the concept of) celebration, we’re … taking some time to look at our accomplishments, to acknowledge our successes (and) our progress… ” ~ Amy Key Takeaways: Acknowledge both large and small achievements: Celebration helps us to uplift our mindset, and confidence, and build resilience. We can actually rewire our brains to focus on our accomplishments! Prioritizing demands and tasks in our lives: This strategy not only enhances self-care but also empowers us by giving us control over our schedules and responsibilities. These strategies can be personally empowering, and committing to them helps us grow and care for ourselves… What takeaway or concept resonated the most with YOU? We’ll see you next week, when Amy continues with the letters R and E! 18 - Embracing a Commitment to SELF-CARE, Pt 2
Today Amy continues outlining what it truly means to commit to self-care, using the acronym SELF-CARE. In last week’s episode, she began by digging into the letters S and E. You can listen to it here. And moving forward, today she talks about the letters L and F. “L” Stands for Learning to Breathe: Our breath is a process that takes care of ourselves 24/7. But when we attend to it, when we breathe mindfully, it can change our entire body towards better health! Amy describes a few useful techniques that you can use to decrease stress, increase oxygen flow, and improve your overall mindset. “F” Stands for Finding Time for YOU: What messages are you giving your brain? As days, weeks, and months pass, by giving yourself last place - always serving others first and prioritizing other’s needs - the message is: “I am not worthy of the commitment or have enough value to give any priority to my needs and my growth.” Ouch! “You deserve and need to be the most important appointment on your calendar - daily.” ~ Amy Key Takeaways: Self-value is a non-negotiable commitment: Dedicating time to yourself sends a strong message to our brain about our inherent value. Highlighting that self-care and self-value must be unwavering and prioritized to effectively care for others and fulfill our commitments. Schedule your self-care: Making time for yourself, despite life's demands, emphasizes the importance of seeing yourself as valuable and deserving of care and attention. Treat yourself as your most important client or a required meeting. Overcoming underconnection to self: This means you are overly committed to external obligations. This underconnection is described as misvaluation, where everything and everyone else is perceived as more valuable than oneself, which is both damaging and inaccurate. Self-care is empowering! 8 - Affirmations with a Twist: Grace-firmations and "Your name"-firmations
Welcome to the last of the "Affirmations with a Twist" series! This last episode contains 2 affirmations: grace-firmations and "your name"-firmations, separated by a brief musical interlude. You can pause your listening there to continue with some personal application or listen to the entire episode at once. In this final episode of the series, it's time to give yourself some grace and start claiming what you've gleaned through self-discovery and OWN it! What have you learned about yourself through this series? Make sure you share something - and affirm something - in the closing Q&A. Or just leave a note in the comments! This series was originally released in May of 2022 during Mental Health Awareness Month, but the content is timeless. We are encouraged to "be positive", have encouraging self-talk, focus on the good, etc., but there is often a disconnect between those generalized thoughts that we feel we should be thinking, and what we are actually telling ourselves day to day. These affirmations with a twist will bridge that gap. Listen to one or listen to them all - here are the others: Episode 1 - Laugh-firmations and Fun-firmations Episode 2 - Faith-firmations and Belief-firmations Episode 3 - Strong-firmations and Bold-firmations Episode 4 - Fit-firmations and Grit-firmations Episode 5 - Help-firmations and Gift-firmations Episode 6 - Stuff-firmations and Trust-firmations Episode 7 - Change-firmations and New-firmations And that's a wrap for now! *** If you feel led, please gift us with a rating and or review wherever you've listened to this series. It helps get the word out so that someone else who needs the encouragement will land on these important and useful twists on personal positive affirmations. *** Although located in Marietta, GA, Amy provides counseling, hypnosis, life coaching, and corporate wellness services online.
