She Runs Ultras

She Runs Ultras is about (yup, you guessed it) running ultras. Lots of other running podcasts out there are full of gear & race reviews and interviews with the experts telling unrelatable stories about their record breaking times and super human feats. Now…don’t get me wrong, I’ve learned some great stuff from those podcasts...But what about those of us that aren’t getting paid to do this? Those of us that are mid to back of the pack runners? And those of us that have never won a damn thing? What was out there for us? Yeah, I couldn’t find it - so I decided to make it! And it just so happens that I’m getting geared up to start training for some races in 2021. So throughout this series, I’ll share what really happens when a typical, non-professional runner takes on the challenge of running an ultra. Got some races planned for this year? Let’s train together. From the emotional & physical ups and downs, to the details of my actual training plan, and the excitement (not to mention nerves

    Ep. 326 - The Hoodie I Didn't Earn...Or Did I?

In this episode, I’m talking about something a lot of runners believe and that is you only “earn” the right to wear race gear if you finish. After my DNF at the Moab 240 in 2025, I couldn’t bring myself to wear the hoodie I bought at the race. It sat in my closet for months because, in my mind, I hadn’t “earned” it.But over time, my perspective shifted. This episode is about what that hoodie represents now.More importantly, I talk about:Why DNFs aren’t something to be afraid ofHow setbacks can actually sharpen your approachAnd why nothing in this sport comes easy (even when you think you’re prepared)If you’ve ever struggled with a race that didn’t go your way, this one’s for you.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 325 - Sleep Deprivation Training: Is That Really a Thing?

With races like the Arizona Monster and Cocodona 250 bringing overnight running into focus, this episode tackles a common question: should you train for sleep deprivation?Short answer: no.Sleep deprivation isn’t a trainable skill. It doesn’t improve performance and it comes with real downsides like poor decision-making, slower reaction time, increased injury risk, and reduced recovery.Instead, focus on what does help:Build skills (running in the dark, using your gear, managing effort, mental toughness)Get strategic exposure (early mornings, post-sunset runs, occasional overnight efforts without forcing sleep loss)We also cover how to handle the “witching hour” (2–5 AM) and why being well-rested, fueled, and properly tapered matters more than trying to “practice” exhaustion.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 324 - How Would You Train Without The Internet?

What would your training look like if you didn’t have access to social media, Google, podcasts…or even this one?In this episode, we explore what “old school” training might teach you about consistency, confidence, and actually making progress without all the noise. From learning to trust your body to stepping away from constant comparison, this is a conversation about simplifying your approach so you can focus on what really matters. You’ll hear a real client story about what happened when she took a break from scrolling and why less input might be the key to better results. If your training feels chaotic, overwhelming, or like you’re constantly second-guessing yourself…this one’s for you.Bottom line:More information isn’t always better. Sometimes the fastest way forward is to tune out the noise, trust the process, and just keep showing up.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

What happens to all the gear you don’t use anymore? In this episode, I’m talking with Jes Parker, founder of Take 2 Trail - a platform built to give trail running gear a second life.We talk about the real cost of this sport, the amount of waste most runners don’t think about, and how rehoming gear can make trail running more accessible for everyone. In This Episode, We Cover:How Take 2 Trail got startedThe cost (and waste) problem in trail runningWhy used gear matters more than you thinkMaking the sport more accessible for new runners🛍️ Shop Take 2 Trail Here👉🏻 Follow Take 2 Trail on Instagram🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep 321 - "Let's Go Do What We Came Here To Do" with Peggy Ward

In this episode, I'm chatting with Badwater 135 finisher, Peggy Ward.  Peggy has an impressive ultra resume including multiple 50 & 100 mile races where she has placed overall or in her age group.  One of the most exciting things about Peggy, at least in my opinion, is that she didn't start running ultras until she was 42 years old.  So for any of you that think you're "too old" to run an ultra, think again!!!  🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 320 - The Most Toxic Thing You Can Do In Ultra Training

If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, “I’m too slow… too old… not cut out for this…” — this episode is going to hit close to home. In this episode, I’m breaking down one of the most common (and most toxic) patterns I see in runners: negative self-talk that sabotages your training before you ever get to race day. After reading through recent coaching applications, so many women are holding themselves back not because of their training…but because of the story they’re telling themselves about their abilities. We’ll talk about:Why “talking shit to yourself” is more harmful than any missed workoutHow self-doubt shows up (and disguises itself) in your trainingThe problem with fake hype, affirmations, and trying to “force confidence”How to shift your mindset in a way that actually feels believableSimple ways to reframe fear, failure, and lack of confidence into something usefulThis episode is part mindset coaching, part reality check and it’s especially for anyone who feels like they’re doing the work physically…but getting in their own way mentally.Because at the end of the day, you can’t expect to overcome a challenge if you’re the one creating it.😎🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 319 - 7 Unconventional Steps To Successful Ultra Training

When you think about “successful” ultra training…your brain probably goes straight to outcomes.Finishing. PRs. Going farther than you ever have before. But here’s the problem…That’s not where success actually lives. In this episode, I’m breaking down why successful ultra training is process-based not outcome-based and why focusing only on the end result is the fastest way to stall your progress. We’ll talk about:Why outcomes (like finishing a race or hitting a time goal) are just moments in time—not the full pictureThe real, unsexy “wins” that actually drive progress (and why you’re probably overlooking them)How focusing only on mileage can back you into a cornerWhat to do when you hit that inevitable “freak out” moment in trainingHow to build a process that actually works for your life, schedule, and starting pointWhy consistency, awareness, and small daily actions matter more than any single workoutIf you’ve been chasing a goal for a while and feel like you’re not getting anywhere…This episode will help you zoom out, reset, and start looking at your training in a way that actually leads to progress.Because at the end of the day:Process over outcome. Ep. 318 - The Fastest Way To Sabotage Your Training

Have you ever felt like you’re doing all the right things…reading the articles, trying the plans, tweaking your training and yet somehow your progress feels stalled? In this episode, we’re talking about one of the most common ways runners unknowingly sabotage their training especially in the age of social media and endless online advice. When you’re not sure what to do, it’s easy to start grabbing ideas from everywhere:a training plan here, a workout there, a tip from someone in a Facebook group…Before long you’re trying seven different approaches at once and wondering why nothing seems to be working. In this episode, I’m sharing a message from a coaching client that perfectly illustrates this trap and why constantly changing plans, piling on more training, or chasing quick reassurance can actually derail your progress. We’ll talk about:Why doing more training often makes things worseThe hidden downside of following too many plans at onceWhy most runners abandon a strategy before it ever has time to workHow reflection and patience are the real keys to long-term progressIf you’ve been feeling stuck, frustrated, or like your training is a little chaotic lately… this episode will help you take a step back and get refocused.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 317 - 🧚 You Don’t Need Permission to Run an Ultra… But Here It Is Anyway!!

Somewhere along the way, a lot of women start downplaying their running goals.“It’s just a 50K.”“I mean… there are people running way farther than me.”In this episode, I’m stepping in as the 🧚 Permission Fairy 🧚 and officially giving you permission to want what you want when it comes to running your first or farthest ultra. We’ll talk about why so many women hesitate to go after bigger running goals, the subtle ways we minimize our own ambitions, and why giving yourself permission is often the first step toward doing something you didn’t think was possible.Permission granted!

Ep. 316 - When Your Body Stops Being Predictable

In this episode, I’m talking honestly about what it feels like when your body stops responding the way it used to and how perimenopause has shifted my experience as both an athlete and a coach. This is not a deep dive into hormone science.Instead, this is a conversation about:Sleep changesWeight fluctuationsMood shifts (and yes…rage 😅)Random joint achesFocus + memory issuesNausea, dizziness, and fatigueAnd the mental side of feeling like you can’t “control” outcomes the way you used toWe talk about what happens when:Effort doesn’t guarantee resultsThe same training produces different outcomesYou can’t win by simply pushing harderYour old training templates stop workingAnd most importantly: how to adapt.I share what I’m personally changing in my own training right now:Prioritizing sleep above everythingCondensing strength work for better return on investmentAdjusting fueling quantity (especially post-200 miler life)Using mobility work to understand what my body can and can’t currently tolerateLetting go of the need to control everythingIf you’re in this phase or even wondering if you might be, I hope this episode helps normalize what can feel isolating and frustrating.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 315 - When Everything Competes for Your Attention...Your Training Pays the Price!

In this episode, I’m sharing a recent conversation with one of my 1:1 clients who’s training for 100 miles. She listed everything she’s juggling — work, family, aging parents, social media, world events, health concerns — and then said:“I just don’t know how I’m going to do it.”And that’s the point.Sometimes it’s not your fitness. It’s not your plan. It’s not your long run. It’s the mental load. When everything feels urgent and important, your attention gets split. And when your attention is split, your training starts to feel heavier than it should. In this episode, we talk about:Why you don’t need to know “how” yetThe hidden cost of constant inputComparison (Strava, early morning posts, influencer culture)The discipline of opting outHow to “build your bubble” and protect your focusYour attention is finite. If you don’t choose what gets access to it, something else will.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 314 - Two Things I'm NOT DOING With My Running This Year

This year, I’m taking a few things off the table when it comes to my running.First: I’m done calling runs “bad.”Hard? Sure. Uncomfortable? Absolutely. But “bad” doesn’t actually tell us anything useful—and it usually creates more noise than clarity.Second: I’m not overreacting to one data point. One tough run. One off week. One moment of doubt.None of those define your training—or your potential. In this episode, I talk about why these two decisions matter, how they’ve changed the way I approach training, and why perspective—not perfection—is what actually carries you through long seasons and long races. If you’ve ever questioned your fitness because of one run… this one’s for you.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

    Ep. 310 - Growth Is Cringe & I'm Proof!

Every once in a while, I get a message from someone who’s just discovered the podcast and tells me they’re starting from episode one.And every time…I cringe a little. Not because I’m embarrassed (okay, maybe a little). But because that version of me isn’t who I am anymore. In this episode, I talk about why that cringe actually matters—and why it’s a good thing. If you’re not uncomfortable with your past work, past decisions, or past version of yourself…there’s a good chance you haven’t grown very much. And staying the same might feel safe, but it’s not how progress happens. This episode is a bit of a rant (in a loving way).About growth.About change.About letting yourself evolve without apologizing for who you used to be.If you’ve ever looked back at old training logs, old goals, old beliefs, or old versions of yourself and thought, “Yikes…”—this one’s for you.In this episode, we talk about:Why cringing at your past self is actually a sign of growthWhat it means when you outgrow old ideas, strategies, or identitiesWhy staying the same is far more dangerous than changingHow this applies to training, coaching, and life in generalAnd why I’m okay not being the same coach—or person—I was years agoYou don’t need to erase your past to grow past it.And you don’t need to stay loyal to a version of yourself that no longer fits.Growth is cringe. And that’s how you know it’s working.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep 309 - Decisions That Make Or Break An Ultra

We love to talk about grit in ultrarunning. Toughness. Digging deep. Pushing through.  But in most cases…you don’t DNF because you’re not tough enough. You DNF because of  small decisions made when fatigue, stress, and emotion start running the show.In this episode, I’m pulling lessons from the book Where You’ll Find Me by Ty Gagne — a powerful exploration of risk, decision-making, and how experience can sometimes work against us in high-stakes environments. In this episode, we talk about:Why experience doesn’t cancel risk — and how it can quietly increase itHow ultra races fall apart through decision stacking, not one big mistakeWhy rigid plans fail when conditions change — and what flexible athletes do insteadThe hardest calls in an ultra: when to slow down, pivot, or walk awayHow fatigue narrows judgment — and how to train decision-making, not just fitnessEnjoy!🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 308 - The Stuff No Training Plan Teaches You

In this episode, I’m talking about the part of training that no spreadsheet can prepare you for — the blank space between the lines of your plan where uncertainty, second guessing, and mental load tend to creep in.We’ll dig into:why having a solid training plan is only the starting pointwhat actually causes runners to keep searching for a “better” planwhy effort alone doesn’t resolve the discomfort that shows up in longer-distance trainingand how the human interacting with the plan matters more than the plan itselfIf you’ve ever felt like you were doing everything right but still weren’t sure how to coach yourself through the gray areas, this episode will help you see why, without pretending there’s a one-size-fits-all fix.Because ultra running isn’t just about execution. It’s about learning how to think, decide, and adapt when things don’t go exactly as planned.🎧 Listen in — and if this conversation hits close to home, you’ll understand exactly why the She Runs Ultras membership exists.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep 307 - The Simple Rule That Ends Procrastination (Especially for Runners)

Procrastination isn’t a motivation problem.  It’s a timing problem. In this episode, I’m breaking down a simple rule that helps you stop overthinking, stop negotiating with yourself, and start actually doing the things you say you want to do—whether that’s drinking more water, getting more steps, starting strength work, or training for an ultra. We’ll talk about:Why we get stuck between thinking and doingHow to close the gap before overthinking takes overWhy starting small is the secret to follow-throughHow repetition builds confidence (and momentum)Why accountability matters more than willpowerIf you tend to put things off until they feel heavy - or abandon them altogether - this episode will help you build the skill of following through.Think the thought.Do the thing.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 306 - Drink the Egg Whites (Metaphorically): Why Weird Training Works for Ultrarunners

I watched a guy at my gym casually drink raw egg whites straight from the carton.  No shame. No hesitation. Zero concern for what anyone else thought. Was it gross? Yes.Was it also kind of impressive? Also yes.And weirdly enough… it’s the perfect metaphor for ultra training. In this episode, we’re talking about why the “weird” things you do in training often make complete sense for your goals—even if they look ridiculous to everyone else. Because ultra training isn’t about looking normal. It’s about doing what actually works. We’ll dig into:Why caring what other people think about your training is holding you backThe difference between smart weird and random internet nonsenseHow to break big, scary ultra goals into simple, doable stepsWhat actually matters when you’re training for your first (or farthest) ultraWhy confidence comes from sticking to your plan—not copying someone else’sIf you’ve ever worried about looking silly, overthought whether you’re “doing it right,” or felt tempted to chase flashy training trends… this episode is for you.So yeah.Drink the egg whites.Metaphorically.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 303 - The Simple Way To Sharpen Your Mental Toughness

In this episode, I answer a great question from listener (and She Runs Ultras member) Kierstin:How do you train mental toughness and resiliency when the moments you need it don’t show up until 12+ hours into a race?  And how do you practice that in everyday life without recreating 20 hours of race fatigue? Here’s the truth: you’re practicing mental toughness 24/7, whether you realize it or not.  It doesn’t start with huge, heroic efforts. It starts with the small, uncomfortable, inconvenient stuff you’d rather avoid.Inside the episode, we cover:Why mental toughness is built the same way strength training is — light weight first, then load. How “small annoyances” are actually prime training reps for mental resilience. Why skipping straight to the big challenges leaves you vulnerable to the small ones that derail races.Real examples of micro-challenges you can start using today:stretching after a run, running the hill you hate, waking up early, joining the back of the pack, choosing the rocky trail, etc.How to make a simple “uncomfortable list” and use it as a training progression from small → big.The real battle: the mental chatter that shows up before you even start the task. Why your self-talk before, during, and after these moments matters just as much as the action itself.A reminder that on race day, curveballs will happen — and these daily reps are what prepare you to meet them instead of fold.I also talk about Episode 90 — Believe Hard, and why believing in your future self (yes, even irrationally at times) is a huge part of developing resilience. If you want mental toughness to show up for you on race day, now is the time to start practicing — with the small stuff first.Enjoy this episode — and start training your mind just as intentionally as your miles.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 302 - How RPE Makes You a Stronger and Faster Trail Runner

If you’ve ever tried using RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) and thought:“Am I doing this right?”“Why does this feel harder today than last week?”“Is this even working?”…this episode is for you!Today we’re breaking down effort-based training — what it is, why it matters, and how it can totally change the way you approach running, especially if you're a woman in your 40s (and beyond) who wants to run longer, stronger, and yes… get faster on the trails.Spoiler: RPE isn’t woo-woo.It’s not guessing. And it’s definitely not “slacking off.”RPE is a training skill — one that helps you manage your energy, train smarter, reduce burnout, stay consistent, and build the kind of durability you actually need for ultras. When you train by effort… speed finds you.In this episode, we’ll cover:🔹 Why so many midlife women struggle with RPE🔹 What RPE actually is (and is NOT)🔹 How effort-based training makes you a stronger ultrarunner🔹 The surprising way RPE helps you get FASTER🔹 How to start using RPE todayWhether you’re training for your first 50K, getting back into running after a layoff, or trying to feel more confident on the trails, this episode is going to give you the clarity and confidence you’ve been missing.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

If you’re in your off-season and thinking about what 2026’s training is going to look like…this episode is for you.I’m walking you through a concept I use with all my athletes this time of year: Minimum Effective Dose.  AKA: What’s the smallest amount of training you can do and still get the result you want?  (Not just any result — the desired result.)In this episode we cover:Why doing more isn’t always better (especially for runners 40+).What makes recovery, tissue tolerance, and injury risk different for masters athletes. Why copying someone else’s training plan (your running buddy, someone online, 2012-You…) can work againstyou. Two real-life examples where backing off actually moves you forward. How to experiment with training variables so you land on the right combination for your body. The key questions you should ask yourself as you review 2025 and gear up for 2026.If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re not doing enough…or secretly doing too much…this will help you figure out your actual “sweet spot.”Because sometimes?Less really is more.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 300 - Top 10 Reasons Women 40+ Are Secretly Built for Endurance

In today’s episode, we’re breaking down the Top 10 Reasons Midlife Women Are Built for Ultramarathons — and trust me, once you hear this list, you’ll never look at your 40s, 50s, or even 60s the same way again. We’re talking about the real strengths women develop through decades of life experience — the grit, the patience, the emotional resilience, the ability to problem-solve in chaos, and the deep understanding of their own bodies. Ep. 297 - Why You Shouldn't Be Afraid To Lose Some Fitness (And How To Recover After Racing)

As we wrap up another big year of racing, a lot of runners are asking the same question:👉 “What do I do now that I’m done racing for the year?”👉 “How do I keep my fitness without losing everything I worked so hard for?”👉 “What if I take time off and can’t get it back?”If that sounds familiar, this episode is for you.Today, we’re talking about why it’s not only okay to let some fitness go — it’s actually a smart move.Because here’s the truth: that peak fitness level you hit for your race? It might not be sustainable year-round. And trying to hold onto it forever can lead to burnout, overuse injuries, plateaus, and frustration. In this episode, we’ll cover:🏃‍♀️ What really determines how long recovery takes after a race🔍 The key factors that affect your bounce-back time (effort level, pre-race fitness, illness, injury, and recovery habits)😴 Why sleeping, eating, and actually resting matter more than squeezing in “maintenance” runs💪 The hidden benefits of becoming temporarily deconditioned🧠 How letting go of fitness now sets you up to build back stronger next seasonYou’ll also hear how I’m guiding my She Runs Ultras members through this very same process — with structured downtime, smart planning for 2026, and a focus on recovery, reflection, and rebuilding with intention. And… because I know this time of year can feel weird (you’re not training for anything, but you’re not “done” either), I’m doing something special:💥 The She Runs Ultras ALL ACCESS PASS - Click here to join 👈🏻For just $99, you’ll get 60 days of full access to everything inside the membership — coaching, community, and all our signature programs — so you can finish 2025 strong and start 2026 smarter. You’ll get:The 2026 Planning WorkshopThe Strength Training ChallengeThe 30-Day ShakedownAll the tools, Q&As, and community support my members use to train smarter and recover strongerIt’s not a teaser. Ep. 291 - DNF Drama - My Battle with Bloodroot 50K Results

What happens when you finish a 50K…but the official results say otherwise? That’s exactly what happened to me back in May when I ran the Bloodroot 50K. I crossed the finish line. I’ve got the pictures & the Garmin data to prove it.  But a couple weeks later, a former client emailed me to say: “Not sure if you know this, but UltrasignUp has you listed as a DNF.”Cue five months of back-and-forth with Spartan (the race organizer), unanswered emails, dead ends, and more marketing emails in my inbox than I can count. And here’s the thing: this isn’t about me being salty that my UltrasignUp ranking shows a DNF. I’ve DNF’d before - no shame there. What frustrates me is what this says about how some race organizations are treating runners.Because if this had been your first 50K? If you put your heart, soul, and Saturday mornings into training…showed up nervous but ready…crossed that finish line…and then found out you were listed as a DNF? That would sting. Bad.In this episode, I’m breaking down:The messy reality of my Bloodroot 50K results sagaWhy I think some race organizations have lost sight of their runnersWhat this experience taught me as a coach (and former RD)Why you deserve credit for your work—especially if it’s your first ultraI’ll keep you posted on whether Spartan ever corrects this mistake. But in the meantime, if you’ve had something similar happen—don’t give up. Keep asking for what you’ve earned. You deserve to be seen.🔥 APPLY FOR MY GROUP COACHING PROGRAM⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT➡️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN MY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP📸  FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM📝 IF I HELPED YOU RUN YOUR FIRST ULTRA, FILL OUT THIS FORM

Ep. 290 - From Panic to Prepared: Salvaging Your Training With 6 Weeks Until Race Day

We’ve all been there…You take one day off from training. Then one day turns into two.Two turns into seven. And before you know it, weeks have gone by and your race is right around the corner. Cue the “oh shit” moment. If your race is only 6–8 weeks away and your training has completely fallen apart, what do you do? Do you just throw in the towel? Or is there a way to right the ship and get yourself back on track? In this episode, I’m walking you through a step-by-step process to help you figure out where things went wrong, how to reset, and what to prioritize with the time you have left. We’ll cover:How to analyze why you fell off track (without beating yourself up)The one shift that matters most if you want to salvage your race prepWhat skills to focus on in the final weeks leading up to race dayWhy consistency will always win over cramming extra milesHow to recalibrate your mindset so you feel confident—whether you toe the line or decide this isn’t your raceSometimes the smartest move is to show up and salvage what you can. Other times, the boldest decision is to pull back and live to train another day. Either way, you’ll come out of this episode with clarity, confidence, and a plan.Oh—and if you’re already looking ahead to 2026? Don’t miss my Annual Training Plan Workshop coming up soon. Ep. 289 - No Hills? No Excuse: How to Train for Elevation Anywhere

Flat terrain? No problem. Learn how to train for race-day climbs with the tools you already have.Think you can’t train for an ultra with elevation because you live in the city or someplace flat? Think again. 🏙️⛰️In this episode, I’m breaking down how to prepare for the ups and downs of race day—even if your “hills” look more like parking garage ramps or stairwells. You’ll learn:👉 Why you must understand your race profile before you train👉 How to make the most of the hills (or tiny bumps) you do have👉 Creative ways to build climbing power when you’ve got zero elevation nearbyElevation doesn’t have to be the thing that stops you from running your first (or farthest) ultra. Be honest, have you ever gone down the rabbit hole 🕳️ searching for the perfect checklist that will tell you you’re officially ready to run your first ultra?Yeah, me too.I used to think there had to be some step-by-step guide out there that would prove I’d trained enough, learned enough, and was ready to show up at the start line. ABOUT THIS SHOW
