Once our child passes away, life will never be the same. The second they are gone, the future is completely different. Grief rewrites our future. It's a harsh reality that all of us grieving parents must cope with. But we have the ability to rewrite part of that future as well. Sure, it will look completely different. Nothing will ever be the same as it was before. Yet we have the ability to make decisions to better ourselves. Grief is a complicated journey. Episode 78 | Should those who believe in Heaven grieve?

Christians often are attacked for grieving. We are told that our faith is weak, that we are bitter, or that God had some marvelous plan for our child and somehow we are supposed to be excited about the fact that our child is no longer with us. Here's an important point: It's okay to grieve! We will shout it from the rooftop: "It's okay to grieve." It's absurd to expect people to not grieve just because they believe in heaven. It's unfair to ask grieving parents to park their sadness and pretend like they are happy after the trauma of child loss. There is no timeline for grief. If parents are still grieving decades after losing their child, that's OK. Grief is something that helps us to process the tremendous loss. Being a Christian doesn't magically take away the sadness. Check out my book Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope at https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 77 | Rest in Heaven my dear child

The thought of not having our baby with us anymore on Earth is devastating. However, many people find comfort in the thought of the afterlife when we can meet again. People who aren't believers of God can find comfort in different ways too. We believe that we're all walking this Earth together in this fragile thing we call life. We are here to support one another, encourage each other, and help our neighbors along their journey of grief. In this episode, we offer comforting words to the wounded. If you want to read the full chapter, "Rest In Heaven My Dear Child," see my book Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope at https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 76 | Working hard to find hope

Finding hope in the midst of grief can seem like an impossibility. When our child dies, our world comes crashing down on us. Accomplishing routine tasks feels mundane at best. Life loses its spark. Finding hope takes time and commitment to move forward little-by-little. The good news is that it IS possible. We can learn to live in that delicate balance between deep loss and hope for what lies ahead. Episode 75 | Is there anything that will help my grief?

Is there anything that will help my grief? We've all be there. In fact, you might be there now. Things seem like they will never get better. Grief does that to us. Those of us who are no strangers to it know that it takes a LONG (very long!) time to rebuild our lives and start pulling ourselves out of the funk. The good news is that there is a lot we can be doing to help restore our weary souls. Tune in to hear some of the things that have worked for me. After nearly 11 years, I can finally say that I'm in a much better place emotionally. You will get there. If you want to learn more about "Is there anythig that can help my grief?", see my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 74 | What is the "new normal?"

The elephant in the room is that we are not the same after losing a child. NOTHING is the same, nor will it ever be. But there is a point in which we equalize a little bit and we find a place in life when we can breathe again. We call this the "new normal." It's a sort of baseline that we are familiar with. So what is your "new normal?" Maybe it's simply the ability to function day-to-day. Maybe it's feeling physically fit again. Maybe it's taking up crocheting or fishing again. Whatever it is, we can get there. If you want to learn more about finding your new normal, see my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 73 | What is happening to my family?

Do you ever wonder why you family seems to fall apart after the loss of a child? It turns out that you are not alone. When communication breaks down, so can the family. Grief is messy. We all grieve differently, and that can lead to a lot of confusion and hurt feelings within a family. Husbands and wives grieve differntly, and this can lend itself to miscommunication and hurt feelings. In this episode, we talk about ways families can communicate better so they can work through their grief together. If you want to learn more about what is happening to your family, see my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 72 | The hardest part of grief

The hardest part about grief is reaching the moment of KNOWING that it is real. For some of us, getting to the point where we know that our child is no longer coming home can take a long time. There is a very clear connection that has to happen between what our heart knows and what our brain denies. But once we walk through the hardes part of grief, something begins to slowly change. The days begin to get a little bit brighter, color starts to come back into our grey lives, and we begin to live again. Grief is hard. There is no way around that. But we can walk this journey together. Join us as we walk through this journey with you. If you want to learn more about walking through the hardest part, see my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

    Episode 71 | I can't do this, but I have to

When grief feels overwhelming, we feel like we just can't go on doing the things that still need done. The reality is that we need to go on. Ideally, someone will come alongside you and say, "You don't need to do this right now because I've got your back." However, many of us don't have a prince charming to come into our lives and do our laundry, cook our meals, and do homework with our kids or grandkids. In this episode, we share ways that we can move forward with our grief, even when it is crippling. If you want to learn more about moving forward when life feels very hard, see chapter 4 of my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

    Episode 70 | Am I going crazy?

Even years after losing a child, life spins out of control. You feel alone. You might be angry. Empty. Tired. Like there's no relief in sight. Inevitably, we ask ourselves, "Am I going crazy?" I've asked myself this same question a hundred times. There were days when I felt like people were staring at me as if I were an alien with three heads. The reality is that you're not crazy. . . you just happend to go through an unimaginable, life-changing tragedy. In this episode, we talk about what these days might look like to you and how you might just be a lot more normal than you think! If you want to learn more about just how normal you are, see chapter 3 of my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 69 | No time frame for the hurt to subside

We all are desperate for the pain and hurt to go away after losing a child. For the longest time we feel "numb," barely able to get by. We desperately want to know when we will turn the corner and start feeling more normal again. What we leaned is that there is no specific time frame. Each of us is different. We think differently, process giref differently, and our child was wildly unique. Grief takes time, plain and simple. In this episode, we talk about gentle ways we can process through our grief on our own time frame. If you want to learn more about navagating YOUR time frame, see chapter 2 of my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 68 | Living in the foggy abyss of grief

When we lose a child, we often fall into "the foggy abyss," the place where our mind is in a constant fog and emotions are all over the place. I believe this serves to protect our minds, even though it can be unsettling. How long does it last? That depends. We can slip in and out of the fog over the course of years, but that's not all bad news. Once we learn to recognize it, we can navagate and manage our grief better. If you want to learn more about navagating the foggy abyss, see chapter 1 of my book, Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope: https://amzn.to/49E3tP6Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 65 | Taking back the lies of survivor's guilt

There are many lies that we repeat to ourselves when we are suffering with survivor's guilt: "If I had done somehting different my child would still be alive. . . I should have been more present. . . If only I would have called more my child would still be here. . ." and on they go. The reality is that, in most cases, there is very little that we could have done to prevent our child from leaving this earth. Life is unfair, but it's unfair to most of us. The good news is that we can start repainting a brighter picture in our lives. Sure, grief will always be present, but we can start focusing on the positive things in life rather than beating ourselves up for a past that we cannot change. Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupportAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahinton

Episode 49 | Death is the end of a life, not the end of a relationship

To all parents who've lost a child: Your child will ALWAYS be your child! Society wants us to forget and move on. Why is it that, when asked how many children we HAVE, we stumble to find the words to answer? Sometimes we number our children, along with our child who passed away. But then we get defensive and try to explain that we have x number of living children but that our number also includes our child or children who passed away. This is because society wants us to believe that death is the final answer. It is not. Our relationship with our child lives on. We still have converstations with our child. We hold our child in our heart and we dwell on the good memories we have. We want to encourage you in this episode and let you know that you are not alone. In this deeply honest episode of The Silent Grief Podcast, we explore what it’s like to live in survival mode after the devastating loss of a child. This conversation reaches into the raw realities of grief that no one talks about—feeling numb, struggling to breathe, pushing through daily tasks while the world keeps moving forward. We talk about the emotional exhaustion and constant effort it takes just to get through the day. For many grieving parents, “thriving” feels like an unreachable idea, and simply surviving is the most they can manage. We also touch on the importance of acknowledging your pain, learning how to function when joy feels out of reach, and recognizing that grief isn’t linear. Whether you’ve experienced this kind of loss or want to better understand someone who has, this episode offers a space of compassion, validation, and truth. You're not alone—and there's no shame in surviving one breath at a time.Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupporthttps://www.facebook.com/jimmyhintonauthorAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahintonhttps://twitter.com/JimmyHinton12

Episode 42 | Is there purpose in my pain?

Parents who've lost a child all ask "why?" Why my child? Why now? Why did they pass the way that they did? Is there a purpose for my pain? People sometimes use scriptures to make us "feel better," telling us things like "God works all things for good" or "God has a plan for you." These seem more like cliches than deep thoughts. Can there be purpose in our pain or is the death of our children a meaningless death--in other words, are we just victims of chance? In this episode we talk about how it might not be helpful to tell people that there was a purpose in the death. There may be a better way forward for grieving parents. Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupporthttps://www.facebook.com/jimmyhintonauthorAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahintonhttps://twitter.com/JimmyHinton12

Episode 41 | Can there ever be closure after losing a child?

Can there ever be closure after losing a child? The whole world wants us grieving parents to find closure. They are desperate for it. They tell us things like, "It's time to move on." They ask us why we are still "stuck" in our grief years after our child has passed. If this describes your situation, you are not alone. Other people might want us to find closure, but they are not the ones who've lost a child. They aren't the ones picking up the shattered pieces of their own life. You are. Grief is a complicated thing, and maybe we shouldn't be pursuing closure. Instead, we can find ways to honor our child AND our grief that we feel! Tune in to hear just how normal you are in this process we call grief. Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupporthttps://www.facebook.com/jimmyhintonauthorAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahintonhttps://twitter.com/JimmyHinton12

Our lives are never the same after losing a child, but that doesn't mean that we have to be shattered forever. If we pick up the pieces, one piece at a time, we can begin to rebuild a life where we are put back together again. We will always carry the scars that come from losing our child, but we can be made beautiful again. If you feel that way, you are not alone. Clara breaks down what helps her during Mother's Day and how she helps keep her son's memory alive.  Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupporthttps://www.facebook.com/jimmyhintonauthorAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahintonhttps://twitter.com/JimmyHinton12

Episode 37 | The dangerous side of grief

There is a dangerous side of grief that most of us fall into. Namely, we can fall into the trap of comaring our grief or circumstances to that of others. Grief is incredibly unique and we want to avoid falling into this endless pit of comparision. Eventually comparing our level of grief to others will distort our worldview and cause us to sink deeper into depression. We want to avoid this at all costs. Grief is hard enough as it is. In this epsidode, we talk about the dangerous side of grief and how we can become aware that we are migrating towards it. Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupporthttps://www.facebook.com/jimmyhintonauthorAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahintonhttps://twitter.com/JimmyHinton12

Episode 36 | Forgiveness can help heal in certain conditions

When parents lose a child to a crime, medical negligence, or some other reason when someone is a fault, the first question they get asked is, "Will you ever forgive the person who did this?" Why is it that the burden to forgive falls on the parents? Forgiveness should not be the first response. The first response should be compassion and understanding for the parents who experienced unimaginable loss. In this episode, we continue to unpack the idea of forgiveness and the myths surrounding it. Forgiveness is a deeply personal thing, and while there can be healing that takes place under certain conditions, it is not a fix-all solution. Grief is very complex and there is always a lot to unpack. It takes years to come to grips with the reality that our child is gone and is not coming back. Our hearts always go out to parents who lose children and we believe there is a more sensitive way to help each other through the grief journey. Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupporthttps://www.facebook.com/jimmyhintonauthorAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahintonhttps://twitter.com/JimmyHinton12

Episode 35 | Debunking the hurtful myths of forgiveness

People who do not forgive are often labeled as bitter, unforgiving, stuck in the past, and even mentally unstable. These are unfortunate assumptions that place blame on innocent people who are victims of abuse, crimes, and even death. We have been taught to believe that unless we forgive others (no matter what) then we won't be forgiven. Parents who've lost a child to a sensless crime are targets of this kind of teaching. They can be ridiculed to the point of bullying. This is why it's important to debunk the myths associated with forgiveness and give clear directives as found in the scriptures. Whether people are believers or not, these principles are important for everyone. Forgiveness is not freely given to everyone. It rests on the foundation of repentance. Oftentimes forgiveness was withheld in the Bible. Join us for an important discussion on what forgiveness is and isn't and hear the things that actually usher in closure. Find us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SilentGriefSupporthttps://www.facebook.com/jimmyhintonauthorAnd Twitter:https://twitter.com/clarahintonhttps://twitter.com/JimmyHinton12

Episode 34 | Do I really need to forgive to heal?

Forgiveness is a huge topic and most often the burden to fogive is placed on the innocent person. This is true when a child passes away due to the negligence or direct fault of someone else. For example, a drunk driving event often will claim the life of an innocent person. Do we really need to forgive someone who is at fault and shows no remorse? In this episode, we break down this topic and talk about how forgiveness is often weaponized against innocent people in the name of "healing." We think there is a better way.
