Not Everything is an Emergency: Overcoming Overwhelm and Stress
It is finally spring! Seasonal depression should be over, but… you’re still stressed and overwhelmed. Make it make sense. In this episode, EG explores what it means to feel constantly anxious, on edge, or overwhelmed, and why it’s so hard to “just relax.” Through a trauma-informed, neurobiological lens, she breaks down how the brain can get stuck in fight-or-flight (or freeze/fawn), causing everyday situations to feel urgent or overwhelming. At the core of this episode is a necessary reminder: not everything is an emergency. Through five practical steps, EG discusses how to teach your body to find safety even when your nervous system is in survival mode. This episode is for anyone feeling overwhelmed, stuck in overthinking, or unable to rest, especially trauma survivors navigating heightened stress responses.Key Themes: nervous system regulation, fight-or-flight, trauma-informed care, overwhelm and anxiety, emotional regulation, polyvagal theory, grounding techniques, burnout, self-awareness, survivor-centered healingTrigger Warning: This podcast discusses sexual violence. The Universal Truths About Love
Happy love month! In this episode, EG discusses the six universal truths about love through exploring the Greek frameworks of love: eros, philia, storge, and agape, and how conflating them creates pain. Rather than offering a checklist for “healthy love,” this conversation provides insight and compassion for why love can feel confusing, intense, or unsafe, and how to heal from it. The gist: we will never be “perfect” at love, but we can refine it. This episode is for anyone who has ever stayed too long, silenced themselves to keep a connection, or confused intensity with intimacy.Key Themes: trauma-informed relationships, attachment theory, nervous system regulation, trauma bonding, boundaries, self-abandonment, emotional safety, polyvagal theory, family systems, relational healing, survivor-centered healing, healthy love, relational repair, differentiation, neurobiology of attachmentReferences: Types of Love in Ancient GreeceThe Polyvagal TheoryAttachment Theory Relational Healing Trigger Warning: This podcast discusses sexual violence. What 2025 Asked of Survivors
Happy New Year! In the first episode of 2026, EG reflects on the challenges, wins, and losses of 2025; a year that asked survivors to navigate legal, cultural, and systemic obstacles while also carrying the labor of healing and advocacy. Throughout the episode, EG unpacks legal advancements, community advocacy, funding cuts, cultural pressures, and the lie of productivity in healing. The bottom line: 2025 was exhausting, and if all you did was survive, that is still an accomplishment. For allies, EG talks about practical ways to support survivors this year without adding pressure or emotional labor. Instead of a “new year, new me” resolution, EG sets an anti-resolution: give yourself permission to prioritize survival over performance. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the pressure to “do more” with your healing, or if 2025 left you drained despite progress, this episode is for you.Key Themes: trauma healing, nervous system regulation, self-care, anti-productivity, allyship, boundaries, legal and community advocacy, cultural shifts, survivor empowerment, emotional safetyReferences: TAKE IT DOWN ActKarina's Law NY Expanded Victim Compensation2025 State LegislationTN DV Offender RegistryScotland's Justice Reform ActFrance Landmark LawMaryland Budget Proposal (rejected!) Protecting Your Peace During the Holidays
In this episode, EG breaks down why the holidays can feel overwhelming — especially for survivors and anyone navigating complicated family dynamics, sensory overload, or old emotional patterns that surface this time of year. While the season is supposed to be “joyful,” many people feel pressure, exhaustion, and the weight of past experiences they don’t always talk about.EG explores what actually sets people off during the holidays: disrupted routines, being pulled back into old roles, comments that hit too close, nostalgia, grief, and environments that trigger the nervous system. She explains why this season often feels different for survivors and what supportive, non-fixing care looks like from allies. The episode wraps with practical tools for protecting your peace: small boundaries that work, leaving early without guilt, building in quiet time, choosing a safe person, and creating new traditions that match who you are now.If the holidays feel heavy, overstimulating, or emotionally complicated, this conversation will help you feel grounded and seen.Key Themes: holiday stress, trauma responses, boundaries, emotional safety, survivor support, family dynamics, nervous system regulation, new traditionsTrigger Warning: This podcast discusses sexual violence. Why You’re Still Waiting to Be Rescued (Even When You Know Better)
Today, EG explores the idea of “rescue mode” — the quiet part of us that still waits for someone or something to finally make it all okay. Whether it’s a partner, an apology, or a moment that finally feels safe, many survivors and trauma-impacted people carry this deep, often invisible, hope of being rescued.Throughout the episode, EG unpacks how rescue mode develops: from growing up in chaos or unpredictability, to internalizing the message that love or safety must come from someone else. She dives into how this belief can show up in adulthood through patterns like hyper-independence, overachieving, or taking on the “fixer” role in relationships. Towards the end, she details what it really means to move from rescue to reparenting. If you’ve ever felt like you’re always “holding it together” for everyone else, or that peace feels suspicious after chaos, this episode is for you.Key Themes: trauma healing, nervous system regulation, self-rescue, reparenting, supporting survivors, emotional safety, healing after trauma, self-worth, boundaries, trauma-informed relationshipsTrigger Warning: This podcast discusses sexual violence. 180 Days: When Justice Fails Survivors
In this episode, EG examines the case of Candon Dean Dahle, a former BYU baseball player accused of sexually abusing a young girl for years. While the headlines focus on him, this episode centers on her and what this case reveals about the justice system’s failures.EG unpacks how plea deals in child sexual abuse cases often silence survivors, minimize harm, and protect perpetrators over children. She discusses the lifelong impact of abuse, the importance of survivor voice and choice, and why lenient sentences send dangerous messages to survivors and families. If you’re a survivor, parent, or ally, this episode offers a trauma-informed look at how the system must change to truly protect children and support healing.References and ResourcesFormer college baseball pitcher sentenced for sexually assaulting girlCandon Dahle Sentenced to 180 DaysDahle case timelineRAINNNSVRCOVW National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-422-4453 (or 1-800-4-A-CHILD) Trigger Warning: This podcast discusses child sexual violence. How to Build a Support System That Actually Feels Safe
In this episode, EG explores what it really means to feel safe in a relationship, not just emotionally, but physiologically. Through a trauma-informed lens, she unpacks the concept of felt safety and shares how survivors of trauma, especially those healing from sexual violence, can begin to recognize, rebuild, and receive support that genuinely feels grounding and safe. She discusses the difference between being around “nice” people and being around safe people, offering signs your nervous system uses to signal safety (and danger) in relationships. In this episode, EG opens up about the loneliness of surviving; how trauma doesn’t just take something from you, it leaves you with the aftershocks long after. She talks about the story of Kayla Malec and dives deep into the different kinds of loneliness survivors face: the grief for the person you were before, the disconnect from the world around you, and the complicated feelings toward the version of you that did what she had to do to survive. It’s not clean. From the straight-up harmful to the shockingly common, she unpacks the assumptions behind questions like “What were you wearing?” and “Are you sure that’s what happened?” and talks about how curiosity, concern, or even good intentions can still cause harm when we’re not being mindful. She shares her own experiences, reflections from listeners, and a few actually helpful things you can say instead. Forgiveness is Overrated
In this episode, EG talks about forgiveness after trauma—specifically after sexual violence—and all the pressure that can come with it. There’s this idea that forgiving the person who hurt you is the key to healing, but she doesn’t think it’s that simple. She shares some of her own story and thoughts on what forgiveness has (and hasn’t) looked like for her and why she thinks we need to give survivors more space to figure that out for themselves. Unlearning the Rules
Happy Women's History Month! From “be likable” to “don’t be too much,” we’re unpacking the unspoken rules that shaped us and throwing them away. She’s breaking down what it means to take up space, to stop shrinking ourselves, and to finally embrace the wild, messy, emotional, powerful parts of who we are. Coping Mechanisms
Coping—are we actually dealing with things, or just avoiding them in a way that looks productive? In this episode, EG is breaking down the fine line between coping and crutch—when a habit is actually helping and when it’s just keeping us stuck. She asked a bunch of people how they cope, and the answers? All over the place. Some are out here journaling and setting goals, while others are numbing out with impulse shopping and doom-scrolling. (Relatable.)But noticing how we cope is just step one. Step two? Letting go of the habits, thoughts, and expectations that are quietly weighing us down. Because we all have these stories we tell ourselves—like ‘I have to have it all together’ or ‘If I slow down, I’m failing’—and half the time, they’re not even true. So, if you’re in your healing era, questioning your own coping habits, or just here for the introspective deep dive, this one’s for you.
