    Jes Patten - Grateful Growth

Today we talk with Jes Patten.  Jes is a wife, mother, and account manager at a brokerage firm living outside Pittsburgh, PA.  She shares with us today about loss and using substances to cope.  A seed was planted in 2020 that made her realize both weed and alcohol were a major issue for her and she spent the remainder of that year in denial.  In 2021 she became curious about addressing this in her life but it wasn’t until November of 2021 that she had her final blackout that really scared her into making a change.  She found Reframe and had some success with both alcohol and marijuana until April 2022 on vacation when that voice came back to try it again and then the roller coaster began until in late 2022 when she renewed her commitment to being alcohol free and this year in 2023 has been successfully alcohol-free and marijuana free.IG:@jespatten23@gratefulgrowthlifeThe Reframeable podcast is brought to you by the Reframe app. Reframe is the number one iOS and Android app to help you cut back or quit drinking alcohol. Marissa Charest - Accountability & Friendships

Steph is joined by fellow Reframer Marissa Charest today on the podcast. Marissa joined Reframe in December 2022 and says her life has been completely transformed since. Marissa started on the Cutback track, but within 48 hours realized she wanted to switch to the AF track where she made it 19 days, followed by drinking on vacation, she struggled all thru January and February of this to make the decision within herself to be done.February 27th was Marissa’s last day 1 and 20-something days later, she traveled to Kentucky to spend a weekend with her new Reframe besties while having one of the best experiences imaginable. That trip solidified Marissa’s decision to be done with alcohol for good, and yet she still takes it one day at a time.Marissa and Steph talk about the importance of accountability and community while navigating an alcohol-free lifestyle and she provided some really helpful tips for you, dear listener, to form your own supportive group of like-minded folks. Marissa also talked about traveling alcohol-free, phantom thoughts - her term for when her brain thinks “i could sneak that drink” even though she doesn’t want to, and a surprising moment when her husband, who doesn’t struggle with alcohol, got a taste of what a trigger was like.Marissa’s advice to anyone confused or curious or considering going alcohol free: it’s not a cake walk, or a diamond encrusted life over here... but it’s worth every single MF second of the work. Maria Talks About Leaning Into Community

Today Kevin chats with Maria who is a fellow Reframer and a university professor in Kinesiology who has worked with people with degenerative diseases for 15 years. Maria says she has had a dysfunctional relationship with alcohol for a great deal of that time. In January 2022, they broke up when she joined Reframe. Then got back together about 9 months later when I dabbled (heavily at times) on and off until May 30, 2023. This time around is different because she says she has leaned into the Reframe community, made some amazing friendships, and worked with the amazing coaches. At first, she wanted to be able to do it on her own and it became apparent that she needed more than just daily readings and tracking her non-drinking days to be successful. She used alcohol as an escape from things like grief and burnout. It took reevaluating what she was doing in her professional life to address burnout and turn more towards healthier coping mechanisms to deal with that grief. She has always been an athletic person and identifies as a runner but really any sort of long distance adventure in nature is where she thrives and feels most at peace. She’s biked across the country, run multiple ultra marathons, and started outrigger paddling this year. She has found community in Reframe and also in the sports that she has grown to love. The Reframeable podcast is brought to you by the Reframe app. Reframe is the number one iOS and Android app to help you cut back or quit drinking alcohol. Ep 12: Reframer Question - How Do I Resist the Urge for a Post-Work Drink?

In today’s episode we're going to do something slightly different and that is to answer a question sent by one of our Reframe users.  This question is related to ideas on resisting the urge for the post-work drink as well as dealing with the temptation to stock up on alcohol when you're at the grocery store.  I wanted to share some ideas and tools we can use to get through these situations.  I am going to broaden it a little bit as well and just answer the general question of ways to get through a craving, whether after work, on a day off, or just any time we may have an urge to grab a drink when we don’t want to. Some Tools We Discuss:H.A.L.T. (3:00)T.I.P.P. What do I want my normal to look like? Take away any excuses, reservations, etc. and just ask yourself "What do I want my normal to look like?" What's optimal for you? What's ideal?
