With a beautiful new (and very large) brewery in McKinney, they've planted their flag in that area as THE go-to brand with a space that can execute a multitude of events. How a Craft Brewery Was Built On Community-Driven Growth with Owner Seth Morgan of Denton County Brewing Co. - S1 E10
This week we welcomed the Owner Seth Morgan of Denton County Brewing Company, from up north in Denton, Texas. It was a treat to get Seth in house to chat about his background and journey to opening a Craft Brewery in his beloved Denton. It was an interesting, and what feels like what's an almost repetitive, story of overcoming obstacles with construction issues, problems dealing with code requirements presented by the city, and all the other unforeseen pitfalls of getting a brewery off the ground, well before the first brew ever gets mashed in. We had a blast and we certainly look forward to the next batch of Night Witch! The Truth About Running a Craft Brewery 20+ Years with Owner Fritz Rahr of Rahr & Sons Brewing Company - S1 E9
This week we welcomed the OG, the Godfather of NTX brewing, the Local Legend, Owner & Founder Fritz Rahr of Rahr & Sons Brewing Company, right down the road here in Fort Worth, Texas, way back in 2004! It was a great night for our Supplier Spotlight and certainly a great night at the Cellar. The place was packed with local brewers, OG Craft Beer nerds, and locals at large that just wanted to hear Fritz' story. This was a great episode and Fritz had so many incredible stories that we really didn't get in any of the questions we normally ask during a normal episode of the podcast. It was a blast to get to hear from the pioneer of the NTX Craft Beer scene what the journey has been like so far and what he sees as the future of the Craft Beer industry. As a fun side note, our host, Shawn Howell was the daytime beertender at the old Flying Saucer location on 4th Street in downtown Fort Worth many moons ago when Fritz rolled in with some of his homebrew and pledged that he'd be opening a brewery in Fort Worth. It's been quite a ride for both Shawn and Fritz over the years, and tonight was a special one to be able to share these stories of a Craft Beer community that has grown so much over the years. Thanks for giving this episode a listen and we hope to see you in the taproom for the live taping of the next episode. Deep Dive into How Big Craft Actually Works with Caine Lackey and David Ersland of Founders Brewing - S1 E8
This week we welcomed Caine Lackey and David Ersland from Founders Brewing, Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a pleasure to sit with the NTX team and chat the current state of Craft Beer in Texas from one of the nation's top breweries with wide distro. The guys were fantastic in laying out their approach to the modern Craft Beer landscape, particularly from the perspective of a National Brewery working in the great state of Texas and dealing with the strong local bias. We had a blast chatting the history of the brewery as well and some of the unique features such as the original Barrel Aging "cave." Even in a challenging Craft Beer landscape, it's always great to hear a modern business model from one of the absolute best breweries in the nation. Thanks to the guys for everything this year and for hanging out with us in the taproom for the Spotlight. Thanks for giving this episode a listen and we hope to see you in the taproom for the live taping of the next episode. Inside the Hidden World of Craft Beer Distribution with JT Bartlett of Firestone Walker Brewing Co - S1 E7
This week we welcomed State Manager JT Bartlett of Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Paso Robles, California. As JT is now a FTW resident we've been lucky enough to get to know him well and when we get to sit and chat Firestone Walker in a public forum, it's a huge treat for everyone. As one of the sharpest young minds in Craft Beer, JT brings a different perspective than we normally hear on the Spotlight from one of the absolute best breweries in the US that deals with national distribution challenges. We got to hear JT peel back the curtain on their highly vaunted Barrel program, their portfolio of beloved brews, and their forward-thinking vision for the brand and layout for its execution. JT had a special visual presentation (in the first 2min) that Firestone Walker produced as their vision for the future and it was a treat for all of our patrons in house. It was a pleasure as always to sit with JT and chat beer, but also get a comprehensive business minded approach to the modern Craft Beer game. Thanks for giving this episode a listen. Cheers! From Ghost Brewing to Launching a Iconic Local Craft Brewing with Owner Dom Van Ausdall of False Idol Brewing - S1 E6
This week we welcomed Owner Dom Van Ausdall and Head Brewer Will Perry of False Idol Brewing of North Richland Hills, Texas. Ever since coming on the scene with ghost brew collaborations in the late teens, False Idol burst onto the DFW beer scene with sharp branding and a social media presence before opening. Brandon & Dom, both with backgrounds in the Craft Beer Distro game, brought their brewery online in 2020. They added Will to the team and after a long slog (as most breweries do) dealing with permitting and build out issues. Ever since coming online, their brewery in North Richland Hills has been a local favorite of the hardcore beer nerds in the Metroplex. Pumping out solid traditional brews like Viva & Fenris, but also crushing big DDH Double NEIPAs and huge Pastry Stouts has solidified them as one of DFWs best breweries. It was a great night hanging with the guys and chatting beer and the future of the brewery. Thanks for giving this episode a listen and we hope to see you in the taproom for the live taping of the next episode. Pioneering Organic Craft Brewing & Responsible Sustainability with Harold Sherrell and Ryan Shramek of Big Country Organic Brewing - S1 E5
This week we welcomed Harold Sherrell and Ryan Shramek from Big Country Organic Brewing Company in Pflugerville, TX. This week our friends from the Austin are were in house to discuss the brand, the brews, and the future of the brewery. This was a real treat as we got into the real "nerd stat" details of the difficulties of operating a certified organic brewery. On top of the everyday hard labor of normal operations in a brewhouse, the ingredient sourcing/procurement, compliance, and processies of Organic Brewing add a whole new layer of challenges. It was a true pleasure to get an inside look at how they've met these challenges with a determined grit and new innovations. Hope you enjoy the stories as much as we did here in the taproom. Thanks for giving this episode a listen and we hope to see you in the taproom for the live taping of the next episode.
