    278. "Cutting sugar can help lessen symptoms of Hashimoto's": Monica

Monica grew up in Australia with pretty health-conscious parents. But as life got busier and more stressful, she started eating more and more sugar. And eventually, working in the health industry of all places, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's.In this episode, Monica breaks down what Hashimoto's actually is, why it's so often missed or misdiagnosed for years, and why sugar plays a much bigger role in this autoimmune condition than most people — and most doctors — realize. This one is especially relevant if you're a woman in your 40s, 50s, or beyond, because as Monica explains, hormonal shifts like perimenopause and menopause are one of the most common triggers for Hashimoto's to develop or flare up.Now Monica helps other mums do what she had to figure out herself — get to the root of what's driving their Hashimoto's so they can finally feel like themselves again.Connect with Monica here.To get personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from sugar cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? Suann grew up in northeastern Canada eating the way most of us did: a diet full of sugary cereals and processed foods. But when she grew older, she started listening to her body. She became vegetarian, then vegan, moved off-grid, and built a life that suits her. And she's never felt more free.In this conversation, we talk about what Suann calls embodiment — what it actually means to feel at home in your body, to know what it needs, and to trust it. 276. Which is worse: cholesterol or insulin?

In this episode, I want to talk about something that confuses a lot of people: cholesterol. What it actually is, why your body needs it, and why the LDL number on your lab report doesn't tell the whole story.A new documentary that just came out in April 2026 called The Cholesterol Code got me thinking. It follows Dave Feldman, an engineer who went low-carb, stabilized his blood sugar, felt great, but then saw his LDL go up, and decided to find out why. What he discovered is turning a lot of what we thought we knew about cholesterol and heart disease upside down.Because here's the thing — what if LDL cholesterol isn't really the villain we've been told it is? What if the real problem is chronically elevated insulin? In this episode, I ask the questions:What is cholesterol? And why is it essential? What is the difference between LDL and HDL?How could sugary foods, insulin resistance, and inflammation be risk factors for heart disease? What can you ask your doctor if your cholesterol has changed since cutting sugar?Science is about asking questions, and these ones may challenge 50 years of conventional wisdom about cholesterol, statins, insulin, and heart disease. To get personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from sugar cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? You can do everything “right” and still not feel like you're "good enough".In this episode, I talk with Courtney, a health coach and former dancer, about growing up in diet culture, and how looking healthy on the outside doesn't always reflect how we feel on the inside. We talk about why weight loss so often backfires (hint: it's not your fault!).And we also talk about how perfectionism undermines consistency. Courtney shares how becoming a mother made her realize that there's a gap between looking healthy and actually feeling well. She explains how that insight changed the way she approaches health today.Find Courtney's book here.To get my personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? 267. How to feel in control of sugar cravings after 50

If you’re over 50 and sugar cravings feel stronger or harder to manage than they used to, you’re not imagining it.In this episode (which I recorded a few weeks before my 56th birthday), I talk about what’s actually happening in the body after midlife and why the strategies that used to work often stop working. For most of us, shifting hormones affect blood sugar, stress, sleep, and cravings, so it's understandable that sugar can start to feel like the quickest way to calm yourself down. But sugar's not a real friend. It's a coping mechanism that will end up sabotaging your best efforts. So in this episode, I share practical, real-life examples of how to build new coping skills and regulation pathways that don’t rely on sugar or snacks. The reality is that cravings may happen in your life, but by supporting your nervous system, your gut, and your hormones, you can learn to develop regulation tools that are realistic and sustainable for you, so that you don't need to turn to sugar and comfort foods anymore. To get my personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? Cravings don’t usually come out of nowhere. They’re often the body’s way of asking for relief, comfort, or a break from stress, even when it feels like the craving is “just for sugar.”In this episode, my guest is Dr. David Clark, a board-certified gastroenterologist who spent decades working not only with people who suffer with digestive issues, but also chronic pain, fatigue, and cravings. In this fascinating conversation, we explore what Dr. David calls neuroplastic symptoms: how cravings begin in the mind, and can be a signal about your deeper needs rather than a failure of willpower. And also why lasting change usually involves more than simply removing sugar from your diet.If you’ve ever felt stuck fighting cravings and wondered why cutting sugar wasn’t enough, this conversation will probably resonate with you.To get my personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? 262. Natural sugars, added sugars, and nutritional guidelines

What actually counts as a whole food — and why does that matter when it comes to sugar? In this episode, I unpack the difference between foods with added sugars and whole foods that naturally contain sugar, like fruit and dairy. I talk about what “minimally processed” really means, why "food products" that contain forms of added sugars have quietly become part of everyday eating...and how all of this affects cravings, blood sugar, and our general health.I also give my own opinion on the latest US nutrition guidelines that were published in January 2026. I'm not a nutrition expert, but in this episode I share what I've experienced over the last 10 years eating whole foods that don't contain added sugars. To get personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? 261. “Sugar isn't a treat for me anymore”: Mirinda

In this episode, Mirinda shares her honest journey with sugar, dieting, and the lifelong food noise so many women know well. Growing up with mixed messages about food and years of yo-yo dieting, Mirinda explains how sugar slowly began to rule her mood, her thoughts, and her sense of self.We talk about what finally changed: shifting away from weight loss and rules, and toward nourishing her body, stabilizing blood sugar, and focusing on how food actually made her feel. Mirinda shares how letting go of processed sugar, eating real food and healthy fats, and listening to her body brought a level of freedom she never thought was possible. She also reframes the idea of a “treat,” explaining how sugar stopped being something she used for comfort or reward and how choosing foods that help her feel good became the most loving kind of treat. This conversation is about more than sugar. It’s about breaking the diet mentality, releasing guilt and perfectionism, and redefining what a “treat” really means — not as restriction or indulgence, but as choosing what helps you feel good, mentally and physically. To get personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? 260. “Your body needs less sugar and more real foods and healthy fats”: Dr. Aaron

In this episode, I’m joined by Aaron, a family physician who explains why most doctors get surprisingly little training in nutrition — and how that gap shaped the way medicine treats chronic disease. Aaron shares how his upbringing influenced his relationship with sugar, why Type 2 diabetes in kids has risen so dramatically.Aaron also talks about the personal turning point that changed his approach to health: adopting his daughter and fighting to support her with real food instead of default medical “standard care.”We also talk about why real food — including healthy fats — simplifies so much of the confusion around sugar and processed foods... and why meaningful change in healthcare may need to come from the bottom up, with patients becoming more informed and asking better questions.Find Aaron's book here.To get personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? This week I’m chatting with dietitian and author Kim Shapira about what it really means to feel free around food...and how we can build a peaceful, trusting relationship with food, especially sugar.Kim grew up with no food rules and a pantry full of snacks where nothing was off limits. She says that that freedom, not restriction, is what helped her feel calm and in control around food. And as a mom, she shares how that approach shaped the way she raised her own kids, and how it still guides the work she does with her clients today. We talk about sugar cravings, restriction backlash, and how to create a healthier  relationship with food that feels relaxed and respectful. No guilt, no obsession, no needing to “be good.” Kim also opens up about her own sugar story: the one-week experiment that helped her break free from cravings, and how she now sees sugar: just not that big a deal.Find Kim's book here.To get personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? 249. Cut sugar, OK! But cut flour?? Why?!

When I first told people I’d cut out sugar, everyone was so impressed — “Wow, that’s amazing! I could never do that!”But when I mentioned I’d also stopped eating bread, the mood totally changed.“Wait… no bread? Why?! That’s too extreme!”It’s funny how cutting sugar gets applause, but cutting flour is judged. And honestly, I get it. Bread and other flour-based foods have deep cultural roots — they’ve meant comfort, connection, even survival for generations. But the flour we eat today isn’t what our grandparents ate. Industrial milling made it finer, faster to digest, and a perfect ingredient for processed foods that keep us hooked. In this episode, I talk about how flour became a staple in both tradition and modern food marketing — and why so many “whole grain” and “healthy” products aren’t nearly as wholesome as they sound. And I’ll share what to eat instead of flour — not another powder or flour substitute, but real, satisfying foods that keep your blood sugar and energy steady... and your cravings quiet. To get personalized guidance from me, plus support and accountability in a small group... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? 248. "My eating disorder was a way to cope with my emotions": Mallary

In this episode, my guest Mallary talks about her moving story of living with an eating disorder that began after losing her mother at the age of 12. Mallory opens up about how grief, perfectionism, and the need to “stay small” shaped her relationship with food—and how recovery became less about perfection and more about self-compassion.This conversation with Mallary explores:the difference between eating disorders, disordered eating, emotional eating, and "normal" eating;how diet culture, judgment, and misinformation blur the lines between healthy habits and obsession;why emotional eating isn’t always “bad”—and when it can become a warning sign;how grief, trauma, and food are often intertwined; andthe importance of open-mindedness and kindness in rebuilding a healthy relationship with food.Mallary also shares insights from her book Slip, based on her own story and interviews with hundreds of others, to remind us that healing isn’t about control — it’s about connection, awareness, and compassion.Find Mallary's book here.To get personalized guidance from me, plus support and accountability in a small group... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings? 246. What I learned about food - and time - in Italy (Part 2): Netta

Ciao! Take the time to listen to this episode... because it's about what I learned about food in Italy...but especially, it's what I learned about time.My experience in Italy in the summer of 2025 showed me that the Italian family's priority is taking the time to source high-quality fresh ingredients. And taking the time to cook traditional, delicious meals is also a priority.Eating meals together is a priority too.And I saw this in the Italian coffee culture, as well as in slow processes such as the one used to make balsamic vinegar. It was an eye-opener for me, because I live in North America (Canada) where it feels like the priority is to make food as fast and cheap as possible.Maybe that's why we're so reliant on processed foods? So how come one culture seems to have the time to prep and eat good-quality meals, but another culture doesn't?You'll hear my thoughts when you take the time to listen to this episode. To get personalized guidance from me, plus support and accountability in a small group... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY.Do the Cravings Quiz and take the first step to get rid of your cravings! Struggling with cravings?
