by Dr Corina Sims
Opt to Thrive is a health and wellness podcast designed to support, educate, inspire, empower and motivate midlife women to live their healthiest, happiest most fulfilled lives. Motivated by her own life experiences and challenging midlife transition, Dr Corina Sims created Opt to Thrive. Dr Sims is a rural GP Obstetrician and Menopause Specialist who has a passion for connecting with and empowering other women to be the best version of themselves. Dr Dims strives to bring evidence based information to those who are searching for answers. Listen in every week where on one week you’ll find either a short and sweet episode designed to uplift, inspire and give helpful tips to manage your mind and a longer episode the next created to educate and inform.

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: A Lesson in Art, Curiosity & Staying Open
Send us Fan MailWhat can a paint-and-sip teach us about life? This week, a local SALA exhibition and an artist I've admired for years got me thinking about curiosity, growth and the stories we tell ourselves about what we already know.I almost said no to an experience because I'd already decided what it had to offer me. And that made me wonder: what do we miss when we stop being curious? In this episode, I reflect on the importance of remaining a student of life — staying open to new ideas, different perspectives and even the possibility that we might be wrong.Because experience and wisdom matter. But perhaps part of thriving as we get older is holding onto everything we've learned while still leaving a little room to be surprised.Connect with me:Check out Jac's work: HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official website

Joan MacDonald:The 80 Year Old Fitness Influencer Inspiring Women Around the World
Send us Fan MailA lot of people talk about “ageing well”, but Joan McDonald lives it, and she didn’t even start lifting weights until she was almost 71. Joan, now 80, joins us in this episode where I team up with Dr Suzanne Rutherford from The Fit Physician for a frank, funny, and deeply practical chat about how one decision reshaped her health and her identity. We get into the real catalyst for change, including the moment her blood pressure treatment was heading in the wrong direction, and the tough love that made her stop waiting for the “right time”.We also unpack what the early weeks actually felt like: fear of the gym, feeling overwhelmed, being miles away from her daughter and coach, and trying to follow a plan while battling self-doubt. Joan shares why consistency mattered more than perfection, what helped her keep showing up, and how strength training translates into functional fitness for real life, from getting up and down with confidence to staying capable through injuries and surgery. We also touch on the foundations that make results sustainable: nutrition, hydration, sleep, and a mindset that refuses to accept “you shouldn’t” rules about age.Joan also explains what surprised her most after sharing her journey publicly as Train With Joan, including the messages from families, carers, and older adults who found hope through her example. If you’re in midlife, navigating menopause, or simply want a clear reason to prioritise resistance training and muscle health, this conversation will give you one. How Loraine Created an Anchor Strong Enough to Weather the Storm
Send us Fan MailWhat happens when life gets hard?If you've ever worried that one difficult season could undo all your hard work, this episode is for you.Today I'm joined by Midlife Health & Body Reset member Loraine. When she joined the program, she was determined to stop the cycle of yo-yo dieting, build strength and create healthy habits she could actually maintain. One of the concepts I teach in the program is creating an anchor. Instead of relying on motivation or perfection, we build strong nutrition and movement foundations that keep us grounded when life's inevitable storms arrive.Over the past few months, Loraine has experienced one of those storms with the heartbreaking loss of her beloved dog, Pinkie. Her routine changed. She spent less time walking and fewer afternoons at the gym as she cared for Pinkie, and like many of us would, she found herself reaching for a few more snacks and a little more wine. But here's what was different this time…She never abandoned the habits she'd worked so hard to build. She still made it to the gym twice a week, continued prioritising protein and fibre, and used the simple strategies she'd learned to keep moving forward. Now that life is beginning to settle, she's confidently refocusing—not because she's "starting over," but because she knows exactly what to do.This conversation is a beautiful reminder that lasting success isn't about perfection. It's about building habits strong enough to weather life's storms and having the confidence to come back to them when you're ready. In this episode, we discuss:Why Loraine wanted to break free from yo-yo dieting.Building strength in midlife. The power of creating an "anchor" for your health.Navigating grief without giving up on yourself. Why flexibility beats perfection every time. The confidence that comes from having sustainable habits.💚 The Midlife Health & Body Reset opens tomorrow. If Loraine's story resonates with you, the doors to the next Midlife Health & Body Reset open tomorrow for just one week. Together we'll help you build the strength, nutrition habits and confidence to navigate real life—not just the easy weeks. The doors will then close, and the next intake won't be for another 2–3 months.I'd love to help you build your own anchor.Connect with me:Watch the recent Midlife Masterclass Replay here: HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official website

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: One Day, These Will Be the Good Old Days Too
Send us Fan MailThere are moments in life that catch us completely by surprise. This week, I'm sharing one of mine.As I watched my son and daughter travel to Europe together, I found myself reflecting on motherhood, changing relationships, and the unexpected emotions that come with watching your children build lives of their own.It led me to think about the different seasons we all move through—the ones we celebrate, the ones we grieve, and the ones we sometimes rush through without realising they'll one day become the memories we treasure most.In this gentle Mindful Moment, we explore:Why every stage of life asks us to let go of something. The unexpected grief that can accompany beautiful change. What motherhood has taught me about growing older. How our relationships evolve through the years. Why there's beauty to be found in the season you're living right now.If you've ever found yourself missing a chapter of your life while simultaneously embracing the next one, I think this conversation will resonate with you.Perhaps the greatest lesson isn't learning to hold on...It's learning to notice the beauty before it becomes a memory.💛Connect with me:Register for the upcoming Midlife Masterclass here: HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official website

Happy Spouse, Happy House: A Partner's Perspective on Menopause
Send us Fan MailMenopause doesn't just affect the woman experiencing it. It touches the people who love her too.In this special episode of Opt to Thrive, I'm joined by Ian, whose wife Mary-Ann was a guest on the podcast just a couple of weeks ago. You may remember Mary-Ann's remarkable transformation through the Midlife Health & Body Reset—improving her health, reversing her osteoporosis, building strength and rediscovering her energy. But this conversation begins much earlier. When Mary-Ann first came to see me for help with her menopause symptoms, Ian came with her. After watching his wife struggle for more than a decade, he was determined she wouldn't simply be dismissed or told to "put up with it." He had done his research on menopause, encouraging her to seek help and wanting the woman he loved to feel like herself again.Together we talk about what it was really like from his perspective. How did menopause affect their relationship? What did he notice that Mary-Ann perhaps couldn't see herself? What helped—and what didn't?We also explore how improving one person's health can transform an entire household. As Mary-Ann became stronger, healthier and more confident, Ian found himself inspired to make changes too. He's lost 7 kilograms and is planning his own home weights space. One of my favourite moments comes when Ian shares a phrase I'd never heard before:"Happy spouse, happy house."I absolutely love it.Because the healthiest relationships aren't about one person carrying the load. They're about two people supporting one another through life's seasons, celebrating each other's wins and growing stronger together.I also share some reflections from my own husband about what menopause was like from his perspective, and the lessons we've learned as a couple along the way.Whether you're navigating menopause yourself or you're the partner of someone who is, I hope this conversation not only helps with understanding but that you feel a little more understood—and reminds you that you're on the same team.In this episode we discuss:• Why Ian attended Mary-Ann's first menopause appointment.• What it was like watching the woman he loved struggle for more than ten years.• The importance of feeling heard and receiving individualised menopause care.• How menopause can affect communication, connection, intimacy and relationships.• The ripple effect that positive health changes can have on an entire family.• Why "Happy spouse, happy house" may be a better philosophy than "Happy wife, happy life."• Practical insights for couples navigating midlife together. If this episode resonates with you, consider sharing it with your partner. Sometimes hearing another person's experience can open conversations we've been wanting to have for years.Register for the upcoming Midlife Masterclass here: HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official website

When You're Told You're "Fat and Lazy" But It's Actually Lipoedema: This Is Chantel's Story
Send us Fan MailThis is an eye-opening episode that brings awareness to a condition that is not very well known and often confused with being overweight. Chantel, a Registered Nurse married to a doctor, suffered with Lipoedema from her teenage years but wasn't diagnosed until her mid-thirties. Throughout these years she was subject to comments from "you've really let yourself go" to unhelpful advice like "you just need to lose weight", sadly often from health professionals. Eventually she discovered the name of the condition she was suffering from when she googled "cankles" and was confronted with images that mirrored her own body. In this heartfelt episode Chantel bravely tells us her story and sheds light on what this condition is, what it is like living with it and how to recognise and treat it. If you or someone you know has carried painful fat in the legs, and possibly the arms, that doesn't appear in the hands and feet and you've never put a name to it - or you're just interested in what it must be like to live with this condition - you'll want to listen to this episode.Let’s Stay Connected:Get your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Because Walking Is Great but It's Not Enough in Midlife: Keeping Muscle & Bone Strong With Damien Crettenden
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with local Exercise Physiologist, Damien Crettenden, for a conversation every midlife woman needs to hear. From somewhere around 40 we start to naturally lose muscle and this process will continue unless we do something about it. Only 8% of Australian women are doing what it takes to maintain their muscles. But muscle isn't the whole story. We also lose bone strength as we age and in fact this process is accelerated around the final menstrual period when we lose bone faster than any other time in our lives. In this episode, we unpack what you really need to know about maintaining muscle and bone health in midlife. So, if you’ve ever wondered: “Is walking and Pilates enough?” “Should I avoid weights because of joint pain?” “What does a safe and effective strength program even look like?” "Where can I go for help?""Should I be seeing an exercise physiologist?"…this episode will give you clarity. We talk about why strength training becomes non-negotiable in midlife—not from a place of fear, but from a place of empowerment. You’ll learn how it supports bone health (including osteoporosis prevention), improves joint pain and function (yes, even with osteoarthritis), and helps you feel stronger, more capable, and more confident in your body.Damien also breaks down what an Exercise Physiology professional actually does, and why having the right guidance can make all the difference—especially if you’re feeling unsure where to start. This is a grounded, practical, and reassuring conversation with someone who truly meets women where they’re at.If you’re ready to move beyond confusion, fear, or “just walking more”… this episode is for you.Let’s Stay Connected:Sign up for the upcoming free live talk HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: What Are You Making It Mean?
Send us Fan MailHave you ever had a moment where something small completely derailed your mood… and you weren’t even sure why?In this week’s episode I'm getting uncomfortably vulnerable to give a real-life example of how to use one of my favourite mind management tools. In this episode I'm sharing a real-life moment from my Easter weekend that left me feeling hurt, embarrassed, and unexpectedly emotional—and how I used this simple but powerful mindset tool to shift myself out of it within minutes. We talk a lot about how our thoughts create our feelings… but this episode takes it one step deeper.Because often, it’s not just the circumstance or even the thought that’s causing the pain— it’s what we’re making that thought or circumstance mean.Inside this episode, I walk you through: Why strong emotional reactions are actually a signal (not a problem) The powerful question that can instantly change how you feel How to challenge the meaning your brain is assigning to a situation You’ll hear exactly how I unpacked a thought in the moment to uncover the deeper belief that was actually causing the hurt. And most importantly, how I shifted it.We can’t always control what happens. We can’t control what other people think. But we can question the meaning we give it.And that is where your power is.If you’ve ever found yourself spiraling over something small… or carrying around feelings that don’t quite make sense…This episode will give you a practical tool you can use immediately.Takeaway to reflect on:👉 What am I making this mean… and is that actually true?Let’s Stay Connected:Register your interest for the Wellbeing program HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: Leaning In Instead of Quitting (My Personal Story)
Send us Fan MailOver the past week I’ve had some disappointments, heavy stressors, and moments where my brain told me it would be easier to just quit.“You’re failing.”“This is too much.”“Why are you even trying?”Instead of hiding that — or pretending I’ve mastered my mind — I’m sharing what it actually looked like to self-coach through it in real time.In this Mindful Moment, I walk you through:What my brain offered me during a challenging weekThe temptation to pull back from self-care when life feels overwhelmingHow I distinguish between true rest and avoidanceThe non-negotiables I protect to maintain balanceWhy emotional stress quietly drains your energyThe small, grounded decisions that kept me moving forward instead of spirallingThis isn’t about perfection. It’s about practising what we preach. It’s about leaning into self-care, balance, and structure — especially when it would feel easier to withdraw. If you’ve been tempted to quit on yourself lately, I hope this personal story reminds you that you can learn to self-coach through hard weeks — and come out stronger, steadier, and more grounded on the other side.Let’s Stay Connected:Register your interest for the Wellbeing program HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Hair Loss & Menopause: Why It Happens and What You Can Do About It
Send us Fan MailHair loss affects nearly half of women at some point in their lives — and for many of us, it can feel deeply distressing. In this episode of Opt to Thrive, I’m unpacking hair loss in women — especially during midlife and the menopausal transition — and explaining what’s really going on beneath the surface.Because while menopause can absolutely play a role, hair loss is not always “just hormones.” Sometimes it can be a sign that something else is happening in your body — from thyroid dysfunction and iron deficiency to medication effects or other underlying health conditions. In this episode, we cover:• Why hair loss can feel so emotionally impactful (and why that matters)• The red flags that mean you should see your GP• The two most common causes of hair loss in midlife women:– Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL)– Telogen Effluvium• How stress, illness, dieting, surgery and psychological distress can trigger shedding• What’s happening in the hair growth cycle• How menopause and declining oestrogen affect hair follicles• Whether menopause hormone therapy (MHT) helps• The difference between micronised progesterone and synthetic progestins• Practical treatment options including minoxidil and when specialist input may be neededWe also talk about how to recognise when shedding is temporary — and when it may be progressive — and why getting the diagnosis right matters.Hair loss is not “vain” or trivial. Research shows it can significantly affect confidence, relationships, and even career performance. That’s exactly why it deserves thoughtful, evidence-based discussion. If you’ve noticed thinning, increased shedding, or changes in your hair during midlife, this episode will help you understand what might be happening — and what you can do about it.As always, if something in this episode resonates with you or raises concerns, please speak with your GP.And if there’s a topic you’d love me to cover next, send me a message — I love hearing from you 💛Let’s Stay Connected:Register your interest for the Wellbeing program HereGet your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Aging Gracefully: The Identity Shifts No One Prepares You For
Send us Fan MailAging gracefully… it sounded simple to me once. Until I arrived here.Midlife brings a series of identity shifts that few women are ever prepared for — changes in how we look, how we are seen, the roles we play in our families, our work, and the quiet way we begin to see ourselves differently. In this episode, I open an honest conversation about what it really means to age as a woman. We explore the subtle psychological transitions that can accompany this stage of life, why some of these shifts can feel unexpectedly tender, and how we might move through them with strength, self-respect, and compassion. If you’ve ever caught your reflection and felt a flicker of surprise… If your roles are evolving… If you sense you are becoming someone new…This conversation is for you.💛Let’s Stay Connected:Get your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: Feeling Better vs Letting Yourself Feel
Send us Fan MailIn this short Mindful Moment episode, I’m sharing a story from a recent family dinner — where a simple conversation question led to a much deeper reflection on emotions, thoughts, grief, and what it really means to “feel our feelings.”One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in life is that our feelings are created by our thoughts — but as I discovered while talking with my son, that idea can sometimes be misunderstood. There are emotions we are meant to feel — grief, sadness, heartbreak, disappointment — especially in times of loss. Those feelings are not problems to be solved or avoided. They are part of being human, and they need space to be processed. But there is also another kind of suffering — the unnecessary pain created by unhelpful or untrue thoughts, rumination, self-criticism, and the stories our brains tell when they run on autopilot. In this episode, I reflect on:• the difference between necessary emotional pain and unnecessary suffering• why resisting uncomfortable feelings often makes them stronger• how grief and sadness need to be allowed — sometimes only a little at a time• the seductive pull of “wallowing” days and familiar sad music• how confirmation bias can spiral a bad day into overwhelm• why acceptance can ease suffering — even when circumstances can’t change• gentle ways to get curious about the thoughts underneath emotional discomfortAnd I share a few simple questions you can ask yourself when a dark-cloud day appears:• What am I feeling — and can I allow it instead of fighting it?• What thought might be contributing to this feeling?• Is that thought true… and is it helpful?• Is there a kinder, more compassionate thought available to me right now? Some days we can shift perspective. Some days we simply sit with the feeling and let it soften with time. Both are okay. 💛If you’ve ever had one of those heavy days where nothing is “wrong,” but your mood just feels flat, tender, or heavy — this episode is for you.Let’s Stay Connected:Get your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Send us Fan MailHappy New Year — and welcome to the first episode of the year! 🎉As we step into a fresh new year, it’s the perfect time to think about preventative health, staying well, and making sure you’re up to date with the screening tests that genuinely help women live longer, healthier lives. In today’s episode, I’m walking you through the big screening programs we have in Australia, what they’re designed to do, when they’re recommended — and where we don’t have screening (and why that matters). This episode covers:✔️ Cervical Screening Test — what changed, why it’s every 5 years, and when a self-collected swab is appropriate✔️ Breast cancer screening & mammograms — who needs screening, how family history affects screening frequency, and why symptoms need investigation (not screening)✔️ Bowel cancer screening & FOBT — why the starting age has lowered to 45, how the kit works, and why early detection saves lives✔️ Ovarian cancer — why there is no effective screening test, what symptoms to be aware of, and when to investigate✔️ The new Australian lung cancer screening program — who it applies to and how it worksYou’ll also hear a little New Year life update from me — family time, fig harvest, French backpackers, and reflecting on a big year of growth personally and professionally 💛My hope is that this episode helps you:understand what each screening test is actually trying to achieveknow when screening applies vs when symptoms need investigationfeel more confident asking questions and making informed choices about your health👉 If you’re not sure what breast-cancer risk category you fall into, you can try the iPrevent risk calculator (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre), then discuss your results with your GPLet’s Stay Connected:Get your free Midlife Health & Body Reset Guide: HereFind out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: You Could Miss the Pain - But You'd Miss the Dance
Send us Fan MailIn this reflective episode, I share a personal story sparked by an unexpected night out — watching Love Actually in concert with close friends. What began as a joyful shared experience unfolded into a powerful meditation on love, loss, memory, and the way life shapes us over time.As the music and stories stirred memories from my own past — including heartbreak, grief, and a season of profound uncertainty — I reflect on what it means to let go of what we thought life would look like, and to trust the unfolding of what comes next. This episode is about acceptance, perspective, and learning not to miss the beauty and joy woven through even the most painful chapters. A reminder that the pleasure and the pain, the joy and the sorrow, are all part of the same dance — and that the dance is always worth it.I hope it encourages you to pause, reflect, and fully embrace whatever season you’re in right now.Let’s Stay Connected:Join the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Stop Starting Over: The Missing Component to Finally Break the Yo-Yo Cycle in Midlife
Send us Fan MailIf you’ve ever found yourself losing weight… only to gain it back again, this episode is for you.So many midlife women feel frustrated, disheartened, and convinced that something is “wrong” with them — especially when the strategies that once worked suddenly stop working. But the truth is, it’s not a lack of willpower. And it’s not your fault. In this episode, I share the personal and professional journey that helped me finally step off the yo-yo dieting cycle — and why midlife is often the turning point that forces us to do things differently. We explore why repeated dieting can quietly erode muscle, energy, and confidence, and why sustainable weight loss in midlife requires more than just adjusting calories or exercise. I break down the often-missing component that keeps pulling women back to the start line — mindset — and why without addressing it, lasting change is almost impossible. You’ll hear about:Why the “temporary mindset” keeps you stuck in the lose–gain cycleHow restriction and deprivation set us up for overeating and burnoutWhat it really means to build a healthier relationship with foodThe concept of an energy budget — and how it creates freedom rather than restrictionWhy consistency doesn’t mean perfection (and why 80/20 works)How motivation is created through clarity, belief, and small steps — not waiting for a sparkThis episode is about hope, self-trust, and learning how to work with your midlife body rather than fighting it.If you’re tired of starting over and ready to understand what actually works now — this conversation may be exactly what you need.Let’s Stay Connected:Replay recent webinar (limited time only): Make This the Year You Lose The Weight for the Last time.Find out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: The Midlife Happiness Formula
Send us Fan MailThis week’s episode started with a simple quote I first heard as an intern on my psychiatry rotation:“The secret to happiness is having something to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to.”It’s a line that has quietly guided me through many stages of life — and recently, it sent me down an unexpected rabbit hole into women’s history, old medical thinking, and a surprising discovery about where the quote actually came from.Join me as I explore why this little phrase has stood the test of time, what it reveals about our emotional wellbeing in midlife, and how it can help you check in with yourself when you feel a little out of sorts. And yes… there’s a story involving a 177-year-old book, a fascinating lecture series, some rather “creative” 1800s medical practices, and a reminder of just how far women’s health has come.At the end, I’ll invite you to do your own gentle inventory:Do you have something to do? The Power of a Midlife Reset - How Jo Got Her Mojo Back!
Send us Fan MailIn today’s episode, I’m joined by one of my founding members — Jo — for a powerful and uplifting conversation about what can happen when a midlife woman decides she’s ready for more strength, more energy, and more knowledge. At 56, Jo joined The Midlife Reset thinking she wanted to do something purely for herself and her body. Strength training was not something she had ever done before and she was getting message loud and clear - keeping muscle strong protects our health and our bones! What she didn’t really appreciate before joining was just how much strength she’d quietly lost over the years — and how quickly it could come back with the right support.Jo is an avid skier, and the year before she’d struggled with a knee strain and limited energy on the slopes. This season, after incorporating focused strength work into her weekly routine and optimising nutrition that actually supported her body… she skied the best she had since her 30s. Stronger and faster with more endurance. And she didn’t think that was even possible. Her energy, recovery, and resilience improved too — both on the snow and in everyday life. And through learning more about what really happens to our bodies in midlife, Jo felt empowered to seek further care and advocate for herself with her local doctor. She also spoke about how meaningful it was to be part of a group of like-minded women — seeing their progress, cheering each other on, and feeling she wasn’t alone in what she was experiencing. Now, 4.5 months on, Jo is continuing to build strength, has made movement a consistent part of her life, and is feeling the changes in her body composition (including around the midsection) in a way that feels encouraging and sustainable. Her story is such a beautiful reminder that midlife isn’t an ending — it’s a turning point.Tune in to hear Jo’s journey, the surprises along the way, and the sparks of confidence she didn’t expect to rediscover.Doors Opening Again SoonI’ll be opening the doors to a new group of the Midlife Reset in January. If you’d like to learn more or join the waitlist click HERELet’s Stay Connected:Join the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official website

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: Seeing the Human First - A Midlife Reflection on Judgement, Family, and Compassion
Send us Fan MailThis episode is a little more personal — and a little more emotional.Today Dr Corina opens up about her brother: a man of immense creativity, complexity, and struggle. Through his story, she reflects on how our early experiences shape our choices, how easy it is to judge what we don’t understand, and how healing begins when we learn to see the human before the circumstance. In this heartfelt conversation, Corina explores:What it means to offer compassion without enablingHow codependence quietly shows up in relationshipsThe power of acceptance when you can’t “fix” someone you loveHow her medical background and life experience changed the way she sees people living with addictionThis episode is both raw and tender — a reminder that empathy and boundaries can coexist, and that sometimes the most loving thing we can do is to simply see someone.Connect with Dr Corina:Join the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereVisit the official website at: Opttothrive.comFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Find out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Midlife Reset Program priority list: Here

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment: Weeds, Boundaries & Blossoms: Protecting Your Energy in Midlife
Send us Fan MailSpring is springing here in Australia — while for many of my listeners on the other side of the world, fall is falling. These seasonal shifts always get me reflecting on cycles of growth, change, and what needs to be cleared away.On today’s episode of Opt to Thrive, I share a story from our property about weeds, fruit trees, and even a plant called Pigface (yes, really!) — and the surprising lesson they hold for us in midlife.Just like our pomegranate trees flourished once the weeds stopped stealing their water and nutrients, we too can lose our vibrancy when surrounded by people or situations that constantly drain us. In this episode, we’ll explore:✨ How to spot the “weeds” in your life — the drama magnets, gossipers, and negative energies that leave you feeling depleted ✨ Why boundaries are not selfish but an act of self-care ✨ Simple ways to protect your energy without confrontation ✨ How to plant and nurture more of what truly lights you upAs the seasons shift, maybe it’s time to ask yourself: what weeds need pulling, and what flowers deserve more of your care?Let’s Stay Connected:Find out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Beyond the Scale: Strength and Confidence
Send us Fan MailWhat if the number on the scale wasn’t the most important measure of your health? In this episode, I share a powerful conversation from inside the very first round of my Midlife Reset program. As we near the end of our 12 weeks together, the women took it upon themselves to reflect on why they joined and what they’ve gained. Their words moved me deeply — and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. You’ll hear themes that so many of us in midlife can relate to:✨ Breaking free from yo-yo dieting and confusion✨ Discovering the strength and energy that comes from fueling with purpose✨ Realising the scale is just data - NOT some of the other things we tie it to✨ The confidence that grows when your body feels stronger and healthier✨ The importance of connection and community during life’s transitionsThis isn’t about chasing numbers. It’s about shifting perspective — from weight loss to body composition, from scale obsession to strength, from going it alone to thriving together. If you’ve ever felt stuck, anxious, or unsure about your next steps in midlife, this conversation will remind you of the power you have to change your story.Let’s Stay Connected:Find out more about the Midlife Reset Program: HereJoin the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶

Manage Your Mind Mindful Moment - His Dirty Laundry
Send us Fan MailHave you ever found yourself in midlife looking around and thinking… is this really it?In this episode of Opt to Thrive, I share a story many of us will find uncomfortably familiar — a woman who worked tirelessly for her family, on the property, in her job, and in her home, only to arrive in midlife feeling resentful, unseen, and unappreciated. Her story opens up a bigger conversation about what was modeled for us growing up, how those patterns can follow us into our own relationships, and what it means when we finally stop to question them. We’ll talk about the weight of invisible labour, the baggage of generational roles, and the resentment that can build when gratitude and affection are absent. But we’ll also explore creative ways women are finding solutions, compromises, and sometimes even humour, in the everyday balancing act of domestic life.If you’ve ever felt the sting of being taken for granted, if you’ve ever wondered how much of your life has been shaped by “the way things have always been done,” or if you just need a reminder that you’re not alone in navigating these messy midlife dynamics — this episode is for you.💛 Because sometimes it’s not about throwing the baby out with the bathwater… it’s about finding a way to clean up the water (especially when someone keeps making a mess of it).Let’s Stay Connected:Join the Opt to Thrive mailing list: HereFollow Dr. Corina on Instagram: @drcorinasimsopttothriveConnect on Facebook: Opt to Thrive (Dr Corina Sims)Opt to Thrive official websiteJoin the Midlife Reset Program priority list: HereIf you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and share it with a friend who may enjoy it too.🫶
