48 • 3 Tips to Overcome Perfectionism

For example: If I didn't have time and energy to give 100% to a workout — I decided to not workout. If I didn't have enough money for a wardrobe overhaul — I didn't buy myself any new clothes and kept wearing clothes that made me feel bad about myself. If I didn't have the money to go to weekly therapy — I decided I wasn't going to go at all. Perfectionism — also known as the all-or-nothing mentality — will keep you stuck, sad, and overwhelmed by a very rigid life where your own mind is the dictator. I have personally done a lot of inner work over the last 10+ years to release perfectionism and the all-or-nothing mentality, and it has helped me big time with learning how to respect what I have in front (whether that's my time, energy, money, support systems, etc.), and make the most of it. Where perfectionism used to always tell me that my circumstances weren't perfect enough to take action, my flexible mindset helps me do what I can, make the most of each day, and be compassionate towards myself when it's not “perfect.”Making this shift for yourself and healing the perfectionist in you will enable you to take up more space in your life and feel more empowered and in control of your choices. ABOUT THIS EPISODEMoms don’t just wake up one day and become self-sacrificing, over-extended, burned out women. We were raised to be that way over decades through mental conditioning that taught us that serving others—even at the expense of our health and happiness—was “good.” We were sold a lie that sacrificing ourselves in service of others is the best way we could spend our lives. 33 • Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD): What it’s like & finding treatment.
ABOUT THIS EPISODEThis episode is about my journey with PMDD and finding an effective treatment. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or PMDD, is a severe form of PMS that affects about 3-8% of women of reproductive age. It can cause depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, brain fog, fatigue, irritability, and rage. I was diagnosed with PMDD back in 2019, and have spent the majority of my 20’s suffering from this condition that has only gotten worse with time. This looked like spending the entirety of my luteal phase, which is 10-14 days of every month, feeling painfully exhausted, irritable, unable to focus, depressed, and even suicidal. The only thing that got me through these difficult two weeks every month was knowing that as soon as my monthly bleed would start these symptoms would go away, but this was no way to live. 26 • Why self-care is triggering (and what to do about it).
ABOUT THIS EPISODE Self-care is so dang hard to practice, especially on a consistent basis. Why? Some might say that we just need better time management tips. Others might say that if we understood how beneficial self-care is, we would prioritize it with less hesitation. But, if all moms needed was more tips, hacks, and information, we would all be practicing self-care consistently – but, we’re not. In fact, many of us are struggling to practice basic self-care, like showering and brushing our teeth, and I think it’s because beyond the tips, the hacks, and the information, many of us are triggered by self-care because it forces us to confront trauma and harmful beliefs that keep us stuck in cycles of self-neglect because it’s familiar and it aligns with what we believe about ourselves and what society believes about us as women and as mothers. 16 • 3 ways to make self-care more sustainable.
🎧 About this Episode I used to struggle with debilitating perfectionism, which was rooted in the need to keep myself safe and to earn love. This unhealthy, all-or-nothing mentality I had was also fueled by the self-help advice that demanded achievement and success at all costs. You can imagine that none of this works well when it comes to setting realistic goals and taking care of yourself on a regular basis. Over the years of my healing, I had to unlearn all of this and create a new approach to self-care — one that was rooted in self-compassion and sustainability so that I could actually show up for my self-care in a way that was nourishing and supportive. The 3 strategies I share in this episode have helped me build routines and rituals that always honor whatever season of life I’m in. 15 • How to free up time and energy for your self-care.
🎧 About this Episode We’ve all been there—lots of new intentions and goals, but when it comes to actually putting them into practice, it doesn’t seem to happen. We get frustrated with ourselves, feel ashamed, and then give up. This used to be my story until I woke up to the fact that I was struggling with the actual practice of self-care not because I was broken, but because I was spread too thin. I deserved a lot more compassion than I was giving to myself, and so do you. I wanted to figure out how I could give myself more time and energy to practice my self-care intentions, which led me to boundaries and how they could be applied to my daily life in a more practical way. In this episode, I teach you 3 different kinds of boundaries, each serving the purpose of helping you free up more time, energy, and space for your self-care. On top of getting more time and energy from setting these 3 kinds of boundaries, I also unexpectedly developed a stronger sense of self-worth and better self-advocacy skills, which have helped me get pay raises, land better jobs, and work on more fairness in my marriage when it came to household responsibilities and the mental load.
