We will also read a portion of John Chapter 10 in relation to our daily reading.Today we will read more about the beautiful description of heaven. We will read about the river of living water and the trees of life. We will read that these things are free and available for those who choose the free gift of eternal life in Jesus.  In John Chapter 10 we read that Jesus came not only to give us life, but ABUNDANT life and He is the gate that we need to enter that life by, if we want to accept His free gift and choose life. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about free will and the right to choose. God has always given us free will. It is up to us to make the choice between life and death. For those who choose to accept the free gift of salvation and choose life, Jesus promises that we will receive it abundantly! Every day we make choices to follow Jesus or ourselves. Those choices we make have lasting consequences, either for death or for life. Those who make the choice to serve themselves and do whatever they want will not have their names written in Jesus' Book of Life, so they will not get to be part of the abundant life that Jesus has for them. It is my prayer that everyone who hears today's reading will choose Jesus, who is The Way, The Truth, and The Life!  Hallelujah! If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, you have not done so already. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! God assures us today that His words are trustworthy and true. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about God's trustworthiness and faithfulness. Throughout history and scripture everything God has said He will do, He has done. Those things that are not yet complete, such as the things we read about in Revelation, we can be sure are still going to happen, no matter how long it has been since the Revelation was given to John. There absolutely will be a day of judgment. God once again promised us the gift of streams of living water. Those whose names are written in Jesus' Book of Life can absolutely look forward living forever with God and Jesus. He will be our God and we will be His children! Amen! We will also read Matthew 6:19-33 in relation to Revelation 18.Today we will read and discuss the symbolism that Babylon has in Revelation. Babylon is the way of the world that focuses on materialism, buying more and more things, and the love of money and things. In contrast, we read in Matthew 6 Jesus telling us not to store up for ourselves treasure on earth, where it simply does not last, but rather, store up for ourselves treasure in heaven, where it will last forever. God eventually brings judgment on the world's way and warns His people to come away from Babylon so that they will not sin with her or have the troubles she will have. Jesus warns us in Matthew 6 that we cannot serve both God and money. We need to choose who we will serve. The final judgements are directed toward the people who choose to mark themselves with the name and/or number of the beast. We will read about the soon-to-come battle between an ancient beast, kings of the world, and Jesus. Jesus will also have those who are called, chosen, and faithful with Him! This will be a great battle, but we are assured that the Lord of Lords and King of Kings WILL WIN! In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the fact that difficult times do not last forever. Even the judgments of God will have a beginning and an end. It an be difficult to endure during difficult times because we feel like they could last forever. But God gives us HOPE. We can endure as long we need to when we have faith, hope and love.  If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, you have not done so already done so already. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! We will also look at Matthew 10:28-33 and Matthew 16:24-27 in relation to our reading today. Today we will read and compare the difference between worshipping an idol vs worshipping God, being marked with God's seal vs being marked with the seal of the world, and the difference between valuing physical life vs spiritual life. In each of these situations we see that one way leads to eternal death and the other to eternal life with promise of reward and rest. We will be reminded that we need to continue to worship God and follow Jesus, trusting in God, enduring difficult times even when it looks like evil is winning over good, because God's big picture tells us that He is still in control and we have won over sin, gaining us eternal life.  It may look like we have lost the battle, but in reality, we have won the war. Take heart, dear brothers and sisters, and don't lose sight of the fact that eternal life is worth far more than our physical, finite life. He has won against Satan! And because He has won, WE HAVE WON! We won with Jesus' Blood! We won by not loving our physical lives more than our spiritual lives. We won by not turning away from God. We won by following God NO MATTER WHAT! Satan has been cast down from heaven. He and his angels are on the earth, with us. They are ANGRY. But we don't need to worry. Jesus is greater than Satan! We need to remember that we are not fighting a physical battle. We are fighting a spiritual battle. When you are struggling against your sinful nature, take the time to remember that JESUS MAKES US STRONG and WE HAVE WON OVER SIN! YOU CAN DO IT! You have been set free! You do not have to choose to keep doing the same sinful behaviors. You can choose to do what JESUS wants you to do instead of what your sinful nature wants to do! JESUS WILL MAKE YOU STRONG! Let's praise God the way we read about today in Revelation: We thank you, Lord God of all power. We thank you that you are the One who lives now and forever. Bring good to all your people, small and great, but get rid of the people who destroy the earth. In Jesus name we pray, Amen. We will also re-read Revelation 3:19-22, Hebrews 12:4-11, and 2 Corinthians 7:8-10 in understanding today's reading and daily application.Today's reading and discussion will continue the theme of what we spoke about yesterday- God is so gracious and forgiving. Even during the difficult times on earth that we are reading about in Revelation God is disciplining the people on earth in order to grieve them into seeing their sinful behavior, with the goal that people will turn to Him and Jesus for salvation. We will look at several passages in the Bible that we have read this year as we understand and remember the big picture of how God uses discipline to cause us to want to confess our sin and seek His forgiveness, with the goal to restore us to Himself! We will be encouraged today that that although discipline is painful, it actually serves to remind us that GOD LOVES US! If He did not love us He would not bother to discipline us, the same way our physical fathers show(ed) their love for us by disciplining us. Nothing else can save us. There is no other name given under heaven through which we can be saved. We cannot be saved by being good people or by earning it with good works. It can only be received by God as His free gift by accepting Jesus as our savior.God is so gracious and patient and forgiving. Even during the difficult times on earth that we are reading about in Revelation people will still be able to accept Jesus' free gift of salvation. God does not want anyone to die. He wants everyone to come to salvation and accept His free gift so they may receive the gift of eternal life with Him. It is so important that we let people know about God's love and gift of salvation. Eventually every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. How much better it will be for people to acknowledge this before they stand before Jesus at the time of judgment! John saw a scroll that was in God's hand. Only Jesus was found to be worthy to open the seven seals and read the scroll. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how the Book of Revelation is all about Jesus and His second coming to earth. Today we read about how the angels and the leaders in heaven make Jesus the most important one. We need to be worshipping, praising, and making Jesus the most important one in OUR lives, too. As we learn about the big picture this year we have learned that our physical bodies and physical lives are not what is most important. Our eternal spiritual life is what is important. We take care of that eternal life by believing in Jesus, loving Him, obeying Him, and making Him the most important one, rather than ourselves, just as we see by John's vision is being done in heaven. Jesus taught us to pray what we call, "The Lord's Prayer." Part of that prayer says, "Our Father who is in Heaven, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." May God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. God's will is that we worship, love, and obey Him and His Son, Jesus. In today's reading Jesus tells us that he is here and it is like he is standing at your door and tapping on it, calling for you.  Jesus asks us to open the door of our hearts and let Him in so that He can be with us and we can be with Him! In our discussion for daily application we will talk about God's love for us- that He does not want to see anyone die, but wants to invite EVERYONE to come to Him through Jesus. We need to be sure we are witnessing to others so that people know that God loves them and that Jesus is standing at the door to THEIR heart, tapping on it, waiting for an invitation to join them! If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, you have not done so already done so.If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! In each letter Jesus tells the church what they are doing well and what needs improvement. Each letter ends with the question, "Do you have ears? Then listen to what the Spirit tells the churches." The letters are meant as a warning and promise of blessings for us, too! We need to be sure that we do not forget our first love- Jesus! We need to be sure that we are not letting people infect our churches with wrong teachings and sexual immorality. We need to be sure that we are not worshipping idols, but instead, are making Jesus the most important one in our lives. As rewards for our faithfulness and obedience we will be allowed to eat the fruit from the tree of life; we will have eternal life with Jesus; we will be given secret manna and a white stone with our new name written on it! Jesus will let us rule. He will give us himself! We have so many wonderful things to look forward to as we endure hardships here on earth. We need to remember to keep our eyes on the prize and remain faithful to Jesus no matter what, all the way to the very end. If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already done so. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! John is told to send a letter to the seven churches of Asia about what he sees and and hears. Jesus confirms that He WILL return! In our discussion for daily application we will talk about obedience and being a witness for God. John obeyed the command to write what he saw and pass along the message that he was given to the seven churches of Asia. In the same way, we, too, need to remember that we are called to be witnesses for God in what WE experience with Him. We also need to obey God by making sure that we are doing the work He gives us to do so that we are actually found to be doing it when Jesus returns, like He taught us. We also read and discuss the importance of continuing to do good and be the light in the world, being different from the world, which is dark. We will put together the pieces of what we have been learning this year with encouragement and reminders of God's message to us this year about love and obedience, knowing that we have Jesus with us always. We simply need to use the tools available to us to win over the world, win over darkness, win over sin, win over death, while shining brightly with God's love for each other and all the world. We will read Chapter 1:1-2, 5-9, Chapter 2:1-6, 9-17, 27, 29 and Chapter 3:1-2, 4-11, and 13-24.Today John will talk to us about the difference between SAYING we love and actually ACTING like it and BEING loving toward others. It is not enough just to SAY we love others, we have to actively refrain from "hating" or "disliking" one another! We need to actively work toward unity with one another, even sharing what we have with one another when someone has need. Love is not just a thing we talk about- a noun; love is an action word- a verb!In our discussion for daily application I will share my own personal testimony about how God has been working in my life to love others. God has reconciled me with people in my work place I have had difficulties with. Satan tries to keep believers apart from one another because he understands that we are one with each other and God. I have found that when there is someone I meet or work with who just rubs me the wrong way or I do not like them for a reason that I cannot even define, that often (but not always) I learn that they are believers!  As a result, I change my attitude toward them and actively work toward having a spirit of unity with them. It can be difficult, especially if they are unwilling, but God has worked in our hearts and we are more agreeable with one another, even loving with one another! Praise God for guiding us to walk in His light! A marathon is a very long race and life is the longest race we will run. We need to be unshakable in our faith, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, and remember that there is always a bigger picture than just what we are experiencing in this moment or even the entire day.  We need to trust God's training process, believing that God is working good into everything that is going on, the same way we saw that He worked good into everything we have been reading about in the Bible this year. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, so we know that He is faithful and will always be with us. While He is with us we can trust that He is working good into everything while training us to know right from wrong and sinless, like He is, so we can be light in the world. It's so we can have direct access to God and have a relationship with Him! God wants to have a relationship with YOU!! We can now come close to God, whereas before Jesus' atonement for our sins NO ONE could go into God's presence except the high priest, and even then, it was ONE DAY A YEAR for the purpose of making atonement for himself and the Jewish people. But now we have access to God 24/7 with His Holy Spirit, SO LET'S COME CLOSE TO GOD TODAY AND EVERY DAY! Jesus was not given an easy-breezy life. Jesus needed to practice discerning right from wrong and suffer difficult situations that gave him opportunities to learn how to deal with sin. Likewise, our lives are filled with opportunities to learn these same skills. We will have difficult situations to endure. We can ask Him to strengthen us and help us learn to discern what is right from wrong. Our goal should be to learn these skills so that we can imitate Jesus and also, like Jesus, be examples to others of how to say, "no" to sin. Doing this will be a sign of our spiritual growth and maturity. We can do this because He came to Earth as a human and experienced sinful thoughts but always chose to obey God rather than give in to temptation. In our discussion for daily application I will share how God used this very application in my life today and when I prayed for strength Jesus gave me His peace and I stopped having difficulty with the issues I had been struggling with this week! As a believer we have many benefits and tools available for us to use, but we need to be aware of them first to be able to use them. We learn about them by reading the Bible! Jesus being a source of strength whom we can turn to is a very big benefit for us as believers. We need to go to Him when we face temptation so that He can help us. If we don't go to Him then we are missing out and struggling for no reason! That God is not slow to keep His promises, but that His timing is perfect. We can be sure that Jesus WILL RETURN. While it might seem like more than 2,000 years later is too long a time to wait for His return, we need to understand that God's delay in calling for Jesus' return has purpose: to give time for as many people as possible to come into salvation, rather than suffer from His eventual judgment. God does not want anyone to die, but for all to be saved. In our discussion for daily application we will discuss the importance of us to continue to do the good work that God has for us to do since our work deals directly with helping to bring people into knowledge and acceptance of God's plan of salvation through Jesus. It is necessary for us to have a sense of urgency to do this work before it is too late and Jesus returns to judge the world. Instead, we need to remember that we know Jesus and be strong in our faith so that we not only continue growing but are able to do the good things that God has planned for us, which are important! Peter's letter will remind us that God calls us saints, and tells us that we must be holy and sinless because He is holy and sinless. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the need for us to look different than the rest of the world. In the same way that God called the Hebrew people to be HIS people, set apart for Him, we have been grafted into God's family tree, born again. This means that we also share the responsibility of being different than those who are of the world. Jesus told us that people will know we are His followers by our love. Judah reminds us today to be kind to all people. We show our love for God and how much we value Him when we are obedient to Him and live like He does. If you enjoyed reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already done so. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! What we spend time thinking about becomes what is in our hearts. Jesus taught us that what is in our hearts overflows and comes out of our mouths. This leads us to today's reading of taking control of our tongues so that we don't say hurtful things. Hurtful words come from thinking judgmental thoughts about the person we are thinking about. Then we say those hurtful, judgmental, accusatory words. These words come from satan, whose name means "accuser." When we are accusing others we are doing satan's work. Instead, we need to be kind, forgiving, loving, thoughtful, like God and Jesus are! There are right ways to use our mouths and there are wrong ways to use our mouths. We need to work on using our mouths for building one another up, not tearing one another down. Talk about big-picture thinking! Are you ready for a big picture understanding of the truth? When we show we are believers by acting like it, by trusting in God no matter how difficult things are, and then being a witness to others about how God strengthened us/saved us/was with us in the difficult situation, other people are encouraged to also put their faith in God, possibly as new believers. If they also, in turn, repeat the cycle of having faith in God during difficult situations and then be a witness to others about how God was also there with them, strengthened them, saved them in the difficult situation and it causes someone else to have faith and follow the example, then what is occurring is a form of "being fruitful and multiplying," which was the command that God gave Adam and Eve at the very beginning when he created them. When we do this we are causing the family of God to grow, both in number and in strength, and the body itself becomes more and more fruitful and multiplies more and more. Showing others we believe in God, not just talking about being a believer, has so much more positive impact than we could ever imagine. We need to remember to stay firm in our faith, fighting the good fight, remembering that we are created to do good work. Thankfully we have the Bible! Today we will read that all scripture is God breathed, useful for teaching, correction, showing us what is right and wrong, training us how to live, and making us capable and equipped for every good work that we are supposed to do! We need to make sure that we are not letting the ways of the world get in the way of our service to God. Bad habits, bad behaviors, and bad influences take us away from our purpose of doing good and bringing good into the world with God's spirit. We need to remember that we are fighting a spiritual battle, not a battle against people.  When we get caught up in the world's ways we are caught in the devil's trap and doing HIS work! We will also begin the letter Paul wrote to Titus. Today's reading will cover Titus Chapter 1:4-16 and Chapter 2:1-14.Today reading and discussion will be about the fact that we cannot love or serve both God and money.  Jesus himself taught us about this, telling us that we cannot serve two masters: we cannot serve both money and God. Fortunately we have God's kind love, which teaches us to say no to things the world loves, like money. Paul reminds us today that we didn't come into the world with anything and we won't be able to take anything with us when we leave this world, either! Jesus, our Good Shepherd, leads us by example. We may not think of ourselves as "leaders" of anyone, but we are always an example to others in everything we do, whether we behave well or less than ideally. It is not enough to just talk about how people should and should not behave. We need to SHOW others how to do the right thing by doing the right thing ourselves, thereby leading by example. It isn't always easy, but Paul tells us that when we do this others will be able to see us growing spiritually and we will save not only ourselves but those who see and hear us! We need to remember to think in terms of the "big picture" and not limit our sight to doing what we want to do in each moment without considering how our actions can possibly affect anyone else who might see or hear us, whether they are believers or unbelievers. Training ourselves to live like God wants us to live is good for our lives both now and forever. God's plan for all of us a very big picture. We cannot see all of it, just like Abraham could not see God's promise happen when God promised to give him more children than there were stars in the sky. But God is fulfilling that promise to Abraham every time someone comes to faith in Jesus, including YOU! We have been learning that when we grow individually it benefits the ENTIRE body of Jesus. That is an example of God's big picture. In the same way, our choices to obey God have a greater impact in the world and on the Body of Believers than we can possibly imagine, just like Abraham could have never imagined how God would fulfill His promise to him. Besides this, Jesus has more than earned the right to be made the greatest. He came down to earth to become a servant in the likeness of a human man and obeyed God to the point of dying, ALL SO WE COULD BE SAVED FROM OUR SINS. If anyone knows and understands the "Big Picture" of God's plans it is Jesus.  As a result of Jesus' obedience and sacrifice He has been been given the honor that EVERYONE will bow to Him and  say that He is Lord. For these reasons (and many more!) we need to choose to do what Jesus wants us to do in life rather than choosing to do what WE want to do. It may not be easy, BUT IT IS WORTH IT for the big picture! Even now, Jesus is in charge over all of His followers. As followers we have been marked by God with His Holy Spirit. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how God's big picture is coming together even more for us this year in regard to unity with one another both here on Earth and in Heaven! Jesus is king of kings and lord of lords now and forever. Since Jesus is in charge of all of us as His followers both now and once we get to heaven, need to understand that this is part of what Jesus taught us about with the Lord's Prayer: Our Father who is in Heaven, hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We are to do God's will here on earth as well as when we get to heaven. What we experience on earth is a foreshadowing of what will happen in full when we experience eternal life with God and Jesus. God's will is to give us His Spirit as a promise to save us and bring us into eternal life with Him. In heaven we will all be reconciled to one another, even if we were not reconciled to one another on Earth. But we are to do our best to be reconciled with one another here on earth because that is God's will. We are to love one another here, not just in Heaven when we get there. We are to be unified here, not just in Heaven. Jesus taught us that a house divided against itself cannot stand. We have God's Spirit within us. We are the house of God. We need to be unified with one another now and in Heaven!   If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! Knowing what loving behavior does and does not look like will also help us understand that there is a difference between rules and the description of what loving behavior is and isn't. Rules are "Don't do this. Don't do that" with consequences for not following those rules. Following God and Jesus can LOOK like we are trying to follow a lot of rules when really we are learning about right and wrong behavior- what being loving does and does not look like- so that we can base our choices for our behaviors on whether or not the behavior we are questioning falls into the category of loving someone or not loving someone.  We are to imitate God, who IS LOVE and ALWAYS acts with love. Jesus, as we have learned, affirmed that all of the "law" can be summed up in loving God with all of our heart, mind, and soul, and then also to love one another. Paul's letter to the Colossians is full of excellent examples of how to put away the old behaviors and adopt new behaviors of love. And remind them that he has already done everything needed so that the Colossians are right with God, so there is no reason for them to believe lies about human rules they need to follow in order to please God. Such rules don't do anything to help them avoid sinning. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the freedom from the religious ritual that Jesus gives us. Jesus told the pharisees that they had so many rules that they expected the people to follow that it was like they had taken the key to heaven away from people.  We need to be sure that we are not repeating the same mistake by creating man made rules for believers to follow in an attempt to please God. Jesus taught us that all of God's rules can be summed up by loving God and loving each other.  Paul prayed for the Colossians that God would help them know what He wants. Paul asked God to make their spirits wise so that they could live a life God would be proud of, making God happy in everything they did. That is my prayer for you today, as well. Paul and the survivors of the shipwreck learned that they landed on the island of Malta, where they experienced God's divine provision through the natives, who showed them all unusual kindness. Paul received divine protection from the bite of a viper and when he and his friends were invited to stay at the leader's house, Paul healed the leader's father. This prompted other people who wanted to be healed to seek healing by Paul. As a result, great honor was heaped on Paul and his friends and when they finally left the island the natives provided all they needed for their voyage. After Paul finally arrived in Rome he got to live in a house under house arrest rather than put in a jail cell. Eventually Paul rented his own house where he taught about Jesus and God's kingdom and nobody stopped him. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about God's amazing provision and once again see that things could have been worse. Although going through the experience of the shipwreck was difficult and Paul was still in jail, God provided encouragement, comfort, and all the supplies they needed, even eventually a home that Paul could live in while teaching people about Jesus and God's kingdom with no one stopping him! It will be during this time of house arrest that Paul will also be moved to write more letters to Jesus' communities. Throughout it all, God was helping Paul, working good into everything. Let us all be encouraged to have faith in God whenever we are going through difficult times, knowing that even though things look bad, they could be a lot worse. God is with us, taking care of us throughout everything. We are never alone. We will gain experiences where we can be witnesses to others and share our faith with others so that we also may encourage others to have faith in God during THEIR difficult circumstances, just like how I shared today how God was with me when my bedroom flooded the last time. After receiving the message Paul provided encouragement to those aboard by telling them that he belonged to God and he believed God would do what He said. We saw that Paul's faith and encouragement was not misplaced, because although the ship was wrecked and the cargo lost, all the people survived the journey to end up on an island, just as the angel said it would be.In our discussion for daily application we will talk about Jesus' promise that He will always be with us, even to the end of time as well as see God's faithfulness to always help us and be with us. Together, these two facts give us the basis for our faith that we can always trust in God to  be with US the same way He has always been with others, whether it was 3,000 years ago, today, or the in the future. We need to use our faith to encourage others and lead by example, the way we saw Paul do today, and be the witnesses we are called to be in extraordinary circumstances God will take us through, circumstances that look absolutely impossible to everyone else. I will share my experience with such a circumstance when I talk about my husband's recovery process from his stroke and I knew God was telling me that He would heal him, whereas to every other "medical professional" it was impossible. NOTHING is impossible for our God. NOTHING. Paul also mentioned in his testimony today that God was helping him in everything he did, even that very day.  While listening to Paul's testimony Festus shouted out that Paul had become so educated that he had lost his mind and King Agrippa asked Paul if Paul expected him to become a believer with just a short speech. Paul responded that whether it was a short time coming or a long time coming, he prayed that King Agrippa and all those listening would become followers of Jesus, just as he was.In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how things ARE difficult for us when we go the wrong way because Jesus is not with us and even though it can seem as though things are difficult for us when we DO go the right way, during everything we go through Jesus will always be with us. In fact, Jesus taught us that He will ALWAYS be with us, even to the end of the age! So we can be comforted by the fact that no matter what we endure, we will never be alone through it and God will always help us, just the way He helped Paul!If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! If you would like to download my FREE calendar for keeping track of your commitment to read the Bible every day, you can find that on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/pages/read-the-bible-in-1-yearMonthly memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packagesToday we will read Acts Chapter 24 and 25:1-26. In our reading today Paul will be put on trial in Caesarea, since he is a Roman citizen and has requested a court hearing in front of a Roman judge. Paul will face his accusers, the Jewish leaders, and be accused of many things that no one can prove to be true. Despite the lack of evidence against him, Paul remained under house arrest for more than two years. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how Paul is having to wait for God's timing to go to Rome, as Jesus told him he would do. How difficult it is to "wait quietly" for God's timing! Today I will share personal experience in my own life going on right now that is requiring me to wait (not so) patiently for God's timing. Today God was reminding me to Be still and know that He is God. Paul, too, would have had to be still and know God is God while he waiting for years to go to Rome, where Jesus told him he would go. During this time of waiting for Paul things could have been worse. He could have been in a jail cell. During our own times of waiting for God's timing we need to remember that things could be worse and we need to remember that in our own lives, just as with Paul's life, God is still in control. Lastly, we will see the encouragement that Jesus himself gave to Paul to keep obeying and doing the work God gave him to do.In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how Paul told the Jewish leaders that he was doing what God wanted him to do every day, even up to that very day. This should be our goal, as well. We need to make obeying God and doing the work He has given us to do every day the biggest part of our daily lives. We will discuss how Jesus encouraged Paul to keep going and in the same way the Holy Spirit will bring us comfort and encouragement as we do OUR work for God, too! It can be tough to get through the hard times of obedience, but we can be encouraged to remember that if God is for us, who can be against us? In this case it looked like all of Jerusalem was against Paul, but even there God was for Paul and delivered him safely to Rome. God will take care of us, too, as we do the work He has prepared for us to do.If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! The Holy Spirit sent messages via prophecy all along Paul's journey. Today we will read about Agabus, a prophet, who showed and told Paul exactly what would happen to Paul when he used Paul's belt to tie his own hands and feet. He also told Paul that the Jewish leaders would send Paul to people who are not Jewish.  In response to this information the believers around Paul were scared for him and discouraged him from continuing on his journey, to which Paul replied that he would not avoid his calling. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the parallels  that this event has with Jesus' own knowledge of what was going to happen to him. We will talk about the fact that God knows the plans He has for us and He is with us no matter what those plans may be. God does not tell us what is going to happen because He is setting us up for failure. He tells us so that we will be ready for the task that we are going to face. He tells us to encourage us, to strengthen us, the same way that He strengthened and prepared Jesus and as we saw today, Paul. Let us also be encouraged to do God's will, whatever it is He is giving us to do, and not be discouraged from drinking the cup that the Father is giving us to drink. Paul stopped to give some final words to the leaders in Ephesus. His message, in part, was to make sure they remembered to take care of others, especially those who were not strong. Paul reminded the Ephesians that Jesus himself also taught that it was better to give than to receive. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about Jesus teaching us that even He did not come to be served, but to serve, just as Paul had served the Ephesians when he was with them.  We will talk about how Jesus sent the disciples out not only to tell people about the Good News but to heal people, drive out demons, raise the dead, and heal skin sicknesses because they had been freely given the ability to do these things and they needed to freely use that gift for the benefit of others. We will tie this together with what we have learned recently about everyone having received spiritual gifts. The gifts we have been given are meant to be used for the benefit of others, not something we just keep to ourselves. We have been given so many gifts from God. We need to freely share these gifts with others, especially those who NEED what we have been gifted with! God is so generous with us. We also need to be generous with others and share with them what God has given us. As we close our reading session today I pray "that God will help you work together to follow Jesus so that it will seem like you have one heart and together you can show God's greatness. Amen!" If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! Paul was very passionate about building unity within God's communities. He reminded us as we read his letter today that we are not just to try and make ourselves happy or serve ourselves because not even Jesus tried to make himself happy! instead, Jesus taught us that if we want to be considered great among one other then we need to serve one another. We, being readers of Paul's letter, are to receive the same teaching.Paul also warned the readers about people who start fights between believers, pointing out that those people are not serving Jesus, but are serving themselves! Lastly, Paul shared his desire for God's communities to be wise about what is good and not to have anything to do with what is sinful. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about being transformed by the renewing of our mind. Sinful thoughts, such as those started by people who want to start fights, pave the way for division within God's body of believers. We need to be mindful of anything that causes us to be divisive. Instead, we need to pay attention to every opportunity to foster unity between one another, such as when I shared that I look for identifying signs such as jewelry or tattoos of crosses, Bible verses, etc. that people wear that let me know they are a believer, and then strike up a conversation with that person, commenting that we are one in the body of believers. It will include Chapter 13:1,3-14 and Chapter 14:1-14, 17-19, and 22-23.Today Paul will tell us about why we need to choose to do what is right- not because we are are afraid of getting in trouble for doing what is wrong, but because doing what is right is what God wants us to do and we will feel better when we do what is right. Paul let's us in on a helpful hint: that love helps us obey God's laws. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about a wonderful gift that God has given us- the gift of free will. God does not force us to do what is right. He allows us to choose. As we grow spiritually we need to make more decisions based on our understanding of what is right and wrong. Paul previously taught us about the battle that is going on inside us between God's Spirit and our body to do what is right. As we grow in our understanding of knowing God and knowing what He wants us to do we need to use our free will to choose to do what is right because it is the right thing to do, not because we feel we have to, like we did when we were less spiritually mature. (notice how these decisions have little to do with physical maturity (our age), but with spiritual maturity.) If you enjoyed today's reading and feel like God has lit YOUR light please click the LIGHT button (it looks like a thumbs up or a heart) and consider subscribing to or following my channel, if you have not done so already. If you know someone who might be interested in reading the Bible with me this year please SHARE today's reading with them! It will include Chapter 11:1-5, 7-8, 11-12, 17-26, 28-29, 33-34, 36 and Chapter 12:1-2, 4-21.Today we will read more about God's divine plan to bring the good news to the Gentile nations through the rejection of  Jesus by the Jewish people. Paul will give us a beautiful picture of unity, telling us how we are all grafted into God's olive tree and reassuring us that the Jewish people are going to be rejoined to the tree when they believe in Jesus. Paul will also encourage us to work together as a united body, using the spiritual gifts we have each been given to do the good works God has called us do. As an added bonus, we win over sin by doing good! In our discussion for daily application we will talk about unity- unity with God because He has put His Spirit within us, unity as one olive tree with many branches, unity with each other in spirit because we all share God's Holy Spirit within us, unity in mind because we have the mind of Jesus, unity in body, as we are all different parts of the same body of believers. We will talk about God's ministry of reconciliation and how it actually goes much deeper than just reconciling believers to Himself. Jesus taught us that a house divided cannot stand. We are meant to be ONE WITH EACH OTHER and part of God's ministry of reconciliation is to reconcile believers to one another, too! God has done this for us with His Holy Spirit, but we need to actively seek unity between one another, remembering all the ways in which we are truly ONE with each other.
