So let God reprogram your thinking today and be transformed by the renewing of your mind. It is possible and can be done. #140: Whenever You Feel Distant by Sara Young

On today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy is walking us through a review of our mouth, mind, and motive. The language people are using these days is a little too much for anyone's ears to hear. While walking down the street, the young as well as the old are sharing a mouthful of curse words. According to the scripture in Matthew 12:36 (NIV) "But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken" Not only do our words have power, but they can travel literally to heaven. Now that is something for you to pause and think about.    SELAH Watch your words today We are looking forward to you being a part of the God and Therapy Community. #139: Everlasting Love Sarah Young

In today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy is sharing an excerpt from Sarah Young all about everlasting love. Have you ever considered that God's love can outlast everything, anything, and all things? This is so powerful to know: that before we were in our mother's wound, God knew it all. So if you sit and think about it, it is impossible to process the power of God from time to time. Everlasting is indeed what it says; it is a lasting love that man will not give or can muster up. The God we serve is all-powerful, so I will advise you on this wonderful day to serve Him and invite Him into your personal world.  Take today to honor and respect this everlasting God. #138: Who are you

In today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy, asks us this question: Who are you? Do you love yourself in a godly way? Do you love God? How well do you trust God today? Let's do a personal assessment on the real person inside. Do you know how to sit still and see the salvation of the Lord? There will be many times the mind will wander to and from trying to find rest for your weary soul. So sit still and relax while enjoying your life, and explore the beauty of God within you. Self-care is taking care of your body, eating well, and sleeping well. It is also making sure you do the simple things in life. For example, looking at the beautiful trees and enjoying the sunshine.  You are worth it.  So sit down today and examine: who am I, and how can I partner with God and his greatness? A friend is generally defined as a person with whom one has a close and informal relationship based on mutual trust.  A friend is a person you like and enjoy spending time with, and who you support. Jesus is a friend who will connect with you closer than a brother. What great friend that someone will lay down their life for us.  It would be wise to connect with Jesus as your friend. #134: Inner Child Wounds

On today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy is talking about inner child wounds. The wounds of a child can be a roller-coaster ride in their emotions as an adult, affect the way they connect with others, and cause generational pain. Every human being needs these three things: Do you see me? Do you hear me? Do I matter? There are so many people walking this earth who do not feel worthy. They feel that the people who love them do not hear them. It seems that they do not acknowledge them and recognize their skills as if they do not matter. This is so common and heartbreaking.  On the podcast, we talked about the four inner child wounds: The Guild Wound The Abandonment Wound The Trust Wound The Neglect Wound www.mindjournal.com Isaiah 53:5 We are looking forward to you being a part of the God and Therapy Community. #133: Mother and Father Wounds

On today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy is unpacking mother and father wounds. No one on this earth can fulfill your every need, not your mother or father. Wounds will happen in each person's life, and they can hurt deeply. The mother wounds are mostly connected to the daughters. In some cases, the son can have mother wounds also. Acceptance and approval are a big emotional disconnection in a child's life. Mother wounds can leave signs of emotional scars in adulthood with the following: Lack of sense of self Feeling unworthy of receiving love People pleasing behaviors The father-son relationship where there are wounds are: Be tough in this world, son Men don't cry Leaving the home and promising you will return Here are a few tips for recovery: Do not put your healing in anyone's hand, not even your parents Hurt people hurt people, while healing people heal people Learn to re-mother and re-father yourself Psalm 27:10 (KJV) - When my father and mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. #132: Why Men Don't Cry - Rev. Aaron Carr (Replay)

We are finishing our replay series as Dr. Cheryl Hardy is sharing replays from a few of her favorite episodes of The God and Therapy Podcast. This walk down memory lane is designed to encourage you and remind you of some foundational truths as you are on your journey.  Today's episode was originally aired on July 1, 2024. On today's podcast episode you will hear from Rev. Aaron Carr discuss: Why Men Don't Cry.   Men are taught at a young age not to show emotions.   A man is supposed to be tough and strong, which is good. However, it is not good when you disconnect from your feelings. Teaching your children how NOT to feel will have adults walking around dismissing their authenticity.    We will talk about how men hold their emotions and the different ways they come out with their behavior.  For example laughing, silent treatment, going to the gym, and the need to hit an object. There were angry men in the bible but when they worshiped God, the heavy load of life became lighter.  When men started using the God-given tools of praise, the place of contentment was attainable.   Being a man of color is challenging. What are some ways to handle life better? It is in the Word of God. You should also talk to someone. The expectations of black men are high yet the need is high. As Pastor Carr shared in this podcast the need is high for the workplace also.    Enjoy the podcast and share it with all your friends, family, and groups.    Disclaimer: This podcast aims to encourage and inspire, with guest views expressed as their own.  ~ Dr. Cheryl ** To purchase a copy of Dr. Cheryl's Book, Therapy Is Not the Ememy – The Christian Novel, and other self-care resources, including Rebuilding a New You – A Self Care Journal, go to www.drcherylhardy.net/shop or on Amazon.

#126: Men and Mental Health with Pastor Gregg Curry (Replay)

Over the next several weeks, Dr. Cheryl Hardy will be sharing replays from a few of her favorite episodes of The God and Therapy Podcast. This walk down memory lane is designed to encourage you and remind you of some foundational truths as you are on your journey.  Today's episode was originally aired on July 15, 2024.    On this podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy is highlighting men's mental health. Men's mental health has been neglected for years. According to society, men are expected to be strong, and in control of their lives. This can be overwhelming for most men and the need to change this perspective should take place now with wisdom and resources.   For many years men have felt the pressure to perform at their highest, not show feelings and be sad. Their feelings are not given a space and place and they are groomed to man up and shake it off.  It was said that real men do not show their feelings for this is being soft and the question has been asked, "Who wants a caring man?".   Pastor Curry shares his struggles as a pastor and how his feelings are valid. Leading people is not easy, however, it is important to trust God at all costs.     As you sit and listen to this podcast, to hear about the multiple deaths and loss of health, and preaching can make one question God. Pastor Curry's honesty and calmness will have you sitting still to hear the family stories he shared and still trust and love God.   Further connect with Pastor Curry:  Loving Grace Church, Jersey City, NJ Facebook @Gregg Curry  Instagram @pgcurry4 ~ Dr. Cheryl ** We are looking forward to you being a part of the God and Therapy Community. #125: Book Review -Therapy is not the Enemy with Lady Stephanie Clegg

On today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy shares with us a conversation she had with Lady Stephanie Clegg. They discuss Therapy is not the Enemy, a fiction book all about mental illness with the Carlton Family. So many times in the church, we struggle with understanding the importance of how the children feel being related to the pastor, for it is not easy. When the parent is trying to raise their children and the congregation is watching, it may be challenging for them.  Having Lady Stephanie Clegg as our guest was a great opportunity to talk about faith and mental health in the family.  Having a counselor helps bring great points about mental health, so we can embrace and live well. We had a great conversation about the Carlton family with Rev. Carlton working a full-time job and pastoring. His wife Aquila was overwhelmed being a mother of 10 children, and each child struggled with some form of mental health concerns, from attention deficit disorder to schizophrenia. #123: Grief is a Real Journey - It's Okay

On today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy talks about grief. Grief is an emotion that everyone will face in this beautiful journey of life. It's okay to allow yourself to feel the grief and let it flow through your body as you process and deal with the feeling.   We suffer from so many different types of loss, and how we manage our emotions and monitor them is important. So many people run from grief and sadness while living in denial, as the delayed grief races through their mind and body.  Allow yourself to feel the loss of opportunity, the loss of a job, the loss of partnerships, and the loss of marriage, and yes, it can happen to anyone. As you face the sadness of life, take the time to caress and nurture the grief as you learn that grief is normal, grief is real, and it's a lifetime journey. Today, choose to embrace the loss and nurture the feelings. It's okay not to be ok. Believe that God will make it work for you. Psalm 31: 9 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also. We are looking forward to you being a part of the God and Therapy Community. #122: Yes Indeed, Your Feelings Matter

On today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy discusses feelings. Your feelings matter. They should be considered and not dismissed in a relationship. How you deal, feel, and heal is a part of life.   Of course, we should be mindful of our feelings in different settings. Controlling your feelings during a business or family meeting shows a coping skills technique. It is very important to increase your reflective listening skills in those settings.   There are many times when your feelings are not telling you the truth and will lead you in and out of sync. There are situations and other times that your feelings are on point and telling you to be careful and use wisdom.  Your feelings matter, and we can have several types of feelings in one day.  You can be happy you woke up this morning, sad that you have to go to work, excited about pay day, and frustrated by a comment a co-worker made. There are tools you can use, including journaling your emotions to process your feelings and self-talk.  Make sure you are kind to yourself and nurture your feelings.
