    150. How Ranchbot Is Transforming Livestock Water Monitoring with Andrew Coppin

This week I’m sitting down with Andrew Coppin, co-founder and CEO of Ranchbot, to talk about how technology is transforming one of the most fundamental challenges in ranching: water management. Andrew grew up in remote Australia and spent years checking wells, pumps, and pipelines, only to later build a company that eliminates that exact inefficiency. We dive into how Ranchbot is helping producers monitor water systems in real time, reduce unnecessary labor, and make better decisions without constantly driving across their operations.Andrew shares his perspective on the differences between Australian and American ranching, what it takes to build technology producers actually trust, and how simple, reliable tools can completely change the day-to-day reality of running an operation.Be sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode!Connect with Andrew:Visit RanchbotFollow Ranchbot on Facebook @ranchbottechFollow Ranchbot on Instagram @ranchbotConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteResources & Links:RanchbotCattleConJoin The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job DescriptionGet our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestMentioned in this episode:Click below to see Open Jobs on Of The West Open Jobs on Of The West

So today, I’m breaking down how to actually build your own “board of directors” and why mentorship doesn’t have to look formal to be impactful. From people already in your life to those you follow online, I share real, practical ways to start building those relationships.I cover everything from getting in the right rooms and learning through proximity to engaging with people you admire online and investing in mentorship when it makes sense. I also share why peer mentorship is often overlooked but incredibly powerful. 145. Why You Need a Board of Directors (Introducing Mentor March)

I am so excited for this episode and an announcement! This week, we are kicking off something new called Mentor March. Over the next four weeks, I’ll be bringing you conversations with people who have personally mentored me in different areas of my life, from business and agriculture to marriage, leadership, and entrepreneurship. These are the people who have shaped how I think, how I lead, and how I build. In this episode, I share why mentorship matters so much and why it is not just for entrepreneurs or corporate leaders. We all need a board of directors in our lives. People who have walked the path ahead of us and are willing to tell us the truth. If most of what you have learned has come from other people, imagine what could change if you became intentional about who those people are. 144. Paving the Way and Choosing Joy with Pam Minick

This week, I had the absolute honor of sitting down with Pam Minick, cowgirl, competitor, broadcaster, history-maker, and one of the most respected women in the Western industry. But more than any title she has held, this conversation is about something deeper. It’s about joy.Pam shares her journey from growing up riding horses in Las Vegas to becoming Miss Rodeo America and breaking barrier after barrier as one of the first women to hold major broadcasting roles in rodeo. What stood out most to me was not the accolades, but her mindset. After a recent leukemia diagnosis and months of treatment, Pam made a daily decision to choose joy. That phrase became more than words. It became her anchor, her perspective, and even the name of a racehorse inspired by her resilience. We talk about finding work you love, saying yes before you know how you will figure it out, cheering for the next generation, and why joy is not accidental. It is intentional. This episode is a reminder that no matter what season you are in, you still get to choose how you show up, and the word “can’t” shouldn’t be used.Resources & Links:Nespresso MachineJoin The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job Description Get our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestConnect with Pam:Follow on Instagram @pamelaminickConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteBe sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode! 142. Holding On, Too Tightly

In this powerful solo episode, I’m sharing a message that’s been sitting on my heart: how our tightest grips on people, businesses, and outcomes can unintentionally suffocate the very things we’re trying to grow. Inspired by Of Mice and Men, I talk through how love can morph into control, and how that shift can affect family farms, careers, marriages, and leadership dynamics. This isn’t a “fix it all” episode, but it is a vulnerable look at how letting go just enough might actually allow things to breathe, progress, and flourish. If you’ve ever felt like the life is being squeezed out of you, or if you’re wondering whether you might be squeezing too hard, this episode is for you.Resources & Links:Of Mice and Men by John SteinbeckThe Alchemist by Paulo CoelhoJoin The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job Description Get our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteBe sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode! In this solo episode, I’m talking about something most of us wrestle with at some point: when is it okay to quit? Whether it’s a book, a job, a goal, or a season of life, knowing when to push through and when to let go isn’t always clear, and it’s something I’ve been navigating personally.I share the story of a book that triggered way more introspection than I expected, and how that led to deeper questions around alignment, identity, and even whether I still want to say yes to speaking gigs. This is a conversation about redefining what resilience looks like, checking in with your gut, and giving yourself permission to pivot, even if it means walking away from something you once wanted.Resources & Links:Join The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job DescriptionGet our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteBe sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode!Mentioned in this episode:Click below to see Open Jobs on Of The West Open Jobs on Of The West

    129. The Scariest Moment of My Life, and What It Taught Me

In this solo episode, I'm sharing a story I've never told publicly before. It's about a terrifying experience that pushed me to the edge, changed how I define "hard," and taught me what truly matters. It starts with a burst blood vessel in my eye (twice) and ends with me realizing just how much strength we find when we're backed into a corner. Through all the fear, uncertainty, and horror-movie-level side effects, I came away with one thing: perspective. Most of the things we call "hard," like awkward emails, new projects, and tough conversations, aren't actually hard. They're just unfamiliar. And once you've faced something truly difficult, you stop being afraid of the little stuff. We can find strength in ourselves to face anything. Resources & Links:Episode 28. 128. Redefining Western Art with Gina Teichert

I’m excited to be joined by Western artist Gina Teichert, a Nevada-born, California-based painter whose work blends tradition, fashion, and a little Clint Eastwood attitude. Her story is a perfect example of what happens when the West meets big-city energy and creativity, and of how art can bridge worlds that don’t always meet.Gina and I talk about what it means to tell the story of the West through art, how the Coors Young Guns shows create space for new voices (and new collectors!), and why she believes the romance of the West is worth preserving, even if some parts of the myth need rewriting. We also touch on her modeling career, her deep respect for ranch women, and how her upbringing in Elko shaped the kind of artist (and human) she is today. If you’ve ever wondered how art fits into agriculture, or why telling the story of our rural life visually still matters in a digital world, this episode will give you a fresh, thoughtful perspective.Resources & Links:Coors Western Art Young GunsPre-order Drinking Wild Water: Essays (Voice in the American West)Join The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job Description Get our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestConnect with Gina:Follow on Instagram @ginateichertVisit her websiteConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteBe sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode! We hear why his passion isn’t necessarily for content or camera gear, but for rodeo itself. His story is a reminder that you don’t have to be loud to make an impact, and that starting small can lead to something big.Wyatt also shares the lessons he’s learned behind the lens, why his ultimate goal is to produce full-scale rodeos with Western music events included, and how people like Randy Quartieri helped him bet on himself when it would’ve been easier to play it safe. 126. It Pays to Be Loyal

In this solo episode, I’m talking about something that feels a little old-school these days: loyalty. We live in a world of next-day shipping, bargain shopping, and endless options. While convenience is great, I believe loyalty is better. Loyalty builds trust, creates long-term relationships, and pays off in ways that cheap never will.I share personal stories about the Chevron crew that’s serviced my car for over a decade, why my family drives hours to work with one specific salesperson, and why I’ll never go to a different hairstylist. These aren’t just transactions, they’re relationships. And those relationships have brought me peace of mind, priority service, and people who genuinely care.Whether you’re a business owner trying to build a loyal customer base or a consumer wondering if that extra $20 is worth it, this episode is a reminder that loyalty always pays off in the long game.Resources & Links:Join The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job Description Get our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteBe sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode! 120. Doing the Job vs. Owning the Outcome

In this solo episode, I’m telling a story about watering my neighbor’s flowers and how it taught me one of the clearest lessons I’ve had lately about leadership, responsibility, and why “doing the job” is never enough. There’s a difference between following instructions and owning the outcome. Whether you’re a freelancer, an employee, a business owner, or a team leader, this episode is all about why critical thinking, thoughtful initiative, and caring about the end result are what truly set people apart.I also flip the lens and challenge leaders to think about whether their instructions are still aligned with the actual goals, and whether they’re rewarding the people who get creative, solve problems, and think beyond the checklist. If you’re navigating team dynamics, delegation, project ownership, or even just wondering what makes someone great to work with, this episode is for you.Resources & Links:Join The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job DescriptionGet our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West'sNewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteBe sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode!Mentioned in this episode:Click below to see Open Jobs on Of The West Open Jobs on Of The West

Welcome to part two of our two-part series about Vence. This week I’m joined by Dr. Miranda Meehan, Extension Livestock Environmental Stewardship Specialist at North Dakota State University and one of the leading researchers studying virtual fencing in rangeland systems.Miranda brings a boots-on-the-ground perspective to this technology—literally. She and her team have collared over 400 animals across multiple research projects, and in this episode she shares what they’re learning about cow behavior, grazing patterns, conservation impacts, and how virtual fence compares to traditional fencing and polywire systems. We talk about everything from escapes (yes, it happens with barbed wire, too), to patch grazing, to how heat maps and collar data are being used to improve grazing distribution and livestock performance. Whether you're curious about how Vence works, wondering if heifers follow instructions better than cows, or just love hearing from women in ag who are doing important work—you’ll love this conversation.Resources & Links:Vence The Four Winds: A Novel by Kristin HannahBooks by Erik LarsonJoin The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job DescriptionGet our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipEmail us at [email protected] to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestConnect with Vence:Follow on Instagram @sensehubvence Follow on Facebook @sensehubvenceVisit their websiteConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteBe sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode!Mentioned in this episode:Click below to see Open Jobs on Of The West Open Jobs on Of The West

    118. Part 1: Virtual Fencing for Ranchers: Inside the Vence System with Grace Inglee

This week I’m joined by Grace Inglee, my Rancher Success Rep from Vence, the virtual fencing company we’ve been using on our own operation since late 2024. After getting so many questions from listeners and followers about how it works, how hard it is to set up, and whether or not it actually keeps cows in, I wanted to bring Grace on to walk through all of it.We break down what virtual fencing is, how it compares to traditional fencing, and the different use cases Vence is seeing across the country—from fire recovery (like ours) to predator monitoring, rotational grazing, and more. Grace also shares how the collars, towers, and herd manager software work together, how long it takes to train cows (spoiler: it’s surprisingly fast), and how even low-tech producers can get up and running with confidence.Whether you’re hearing about virtual fencing for the first time or you’re seriously considering it for your own operation, this episode will answer the questions you didn’t even know to ask. 111. Dignity in the Details: How We Show Up Matters

This week, I’m sharing a topic that’s been on my heart: why taking pride in our appearance still matters. This isn’t about vanity or having the latest trends. It’s about intention, discipline, and the message we send to others and ourselves when we choose to show up well. Whether you’re heading to a meeting, school event, or just running errands, how we present ourselves speaks volumes.I’m also offering simple, practical tips for getting dressed with confidence, without needing a huge budget or closet full of clothes. It’s not about being fancy, it’s about being intentional. And when we take the time to show up with care, it reflects the pride we have in our work, our families, and our roles in this industry. If we want others to take our industry seriously, we need to take ourselves seriously first. 108. What I've Been Listening To Lately

This week, I’m behind the mic solo sharing two podcast episodes that really challenged and inspired me, and I think they’ll do the same for you. Both come from The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast, and while the guests (Piers Morgan and Emma Grede) couldn’t be more different, they left me thinking about two things we all need more of: the ability to really listen to people we don’t agree with, and the willingness to put in the work if we want to build a life of freedom. From creating meaningful conversations to embracing the grind, these episodes hit on lessons that are so relevant in both our personal and professional lives.I’m sharing why those interviews stuck with me, how they apply to leadership in ag and western industries, and why I think we’ve got to stop shaming hustle and start owning the season we’re in. Whether you’re just starting out or building your next chapter, I hope this episode is a reminder that growth isn’t always comfortable, but it’s always worth it.
