23. Part 3: Eating in alignment with your cycle & beyond: PCOS, Endo & The Pill
This week is the final epsiode of the 3 part 'Eating in alignment with your cycle & beyond'. I started taking the oral contraceptive pill (OCP) at 18 years old, without really understanding why I needed it or how it would impact me long-term. During my on again, off again relationship with the pill, I found out I had Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. It has been an ongoing journey to regulate my cycle and manage my symptoms. The reason I am so passionate about share the knowledge in this episode, is because so often we can jump to going on the pill for "acne" "mood swings" "irregularities" ect, without even first investigating why we are experincing certain symtpoms. Which we can the leave for years to come and have to pick up the peices when we finally decided to come off the pill. Now, I acknowlegde there are many valid and medically informed reasons someone needs to go on OCP. Everyone needs to make decisions along side their personal health professional team. I would like to see more advocacy for further holistic investigations and well-infromed options provided to all people, to empower their decision making process and not feel their concerns are ingored or invalid. Start: The epsiode starts with my very own PCOS diagnosis and treatment management, self-advocacy and multiple health team approach. Middle: What is PCOS? How does it impact the menstrual cycle and other health markers? Can nutrition help? What is Endometriosis? How can diet help? End: Wrap up the ep with The Contraceptive PIll (OCP) What is the OCP? How does it work? Are there nutrient deficiency risks with the use of the OCP? Please remember to seek individual advice from your health care provider. The information provided in this podcast are general in nature and scientific evidence is constantly evolving. Join my email list to be the first to recieve details on my upcoming EBOOK guide. 22. Part 2 Eating in alignment with your cycle & beyond: Ovulation and Luteal Phase
Hi there honey! Part 2 of the 'Eating in alignment with you cycle & beyond' is here! If you are anything like me, it came as a rude shock when I found out I couldn't get pregnant at any time during my menstrual cycle. I felt like all my life, I was taught how to not get pregnant, periods were painful, negative and embarassing. I spent years on the pill and had literally no idea about ovulation or when this actually occured! Today I break down both the ovulation and luteal phase. How we might expect to feel in these weeks of our cycle and the changes in hormones. To my surprise, I came across some delightful information about estrogen and progesterone. How they can impact on appetite and even our breathing! What?! There is a wild inerplay of our sex hormones and other hormones in the body. Stress, anxiety, illness, nutrient deficiences and more can all impact on the regularity or irregularities of our own menstrual cycle. This is why we cannot always rely on apps or generalisaitions of when we are "supposed" to ovulate or bleed. A high percentage of women do not ovulate on day 14 in every or any monthly cycle. For these reasons, I am sooooo passionate about open up this can of worms. 21. Part 1 Eating in alignment with your cycle & beyond: Menstruation & Follicular phase
Hello honey! Welcome to part one of the mini series (3 epsiodes) 'Eating in alignment with your period & beyond'. I am so ridiculously passionate about bringing awareness to the beauty and magic of the menstrual cycle. How powerful our connection and understanding of our body can be. That we deserve the rights and education to know more about the science of our menstrual cycle. In order to encourage and support our body and mental health during each phase (menstruation, follicular phase, ovulation and luteal phase), we can start to look at the nutrients that assist our body in specific phases of the cycle. Through out this episode, I discuss some 3 key nutrients that you can take into consideration during your bleeding phase and follicular phase. Although, yes, there is more science and medical awareness of menstrual cycle health, often symptoms of irregular cycles are labelled as normal. It saddens me that many women and menstrators are left in pain or suffering for years before they can either advocate for themselves or learn about their own menstrual cycle. There is a wonderful power in understanding the changes your body goes through each week of your cycle, it enables us to have more self compassion in times we are less capable physically or mentally. On the other side, we can make the most of the times we are feeling our best and most energised. It is important to remember, all the information provided is general in nature and it is paramount you reach out to you general practioner and health professionals for personal advice. This podcast is providing awareness and starting a much needed open conversation to empower you and your menstural cycle health. 20. More money, more power: Breaking free from a scarcity mindset with Nicole Alesios
One for the money! If you're anything like me, money mindset is a constent work in progress. It can be hard to even know if you have mindset things to work on because our patterns of behaviour are so normal to us. This week, I interview money and mindset coach Nicole Alesios. who shares her expertise in money personalities and how we can start the unravelling our money stories. She helps us to recognise money patterns of behaviour and provides some practical tips on figuring out what is holding us back from attracting in abundance and breaking through to the next income level. Nicole helps us to understand the stories of our past that might be contributing to how we relate to money, what we feel worthy of and even the fear of having more than we need. I still battle with my money stoires, everyday and my self-sabotages! A new perspective I have on money is; the importance for good people in the world to have more money and more power! The greater your abundance, the greater life you can live and the great impact you can make on not only the people in your life, but the wider community and the world. My dream at 'One For The Honey' is to build a community of like-minded bass ass women that embodied the change they want to see in the world, lifting each other up as they go! 19. 4 simple ways to truly put yourself first!
Alrighty honey, we have some real talk today! If you are someone that feel thinly spread, putting others before you, taking on extra work or feeling pressured to be at a certain point in your life..this episode is for you! I walk you through 4 key steps I think are helpful in calrifying what it is that YOU TRULY NEED in day to day life and beyond. I know I can be a broken record when it comes to the conscious and sub-conscious impact platforms like social media have on our well-being. Sometimes it seems like there is a race that everyone is competing in, except the finish line is invisible and no one actually knows what they are running towards or why. In the attempt to compete in the race, we are distracted and forget what our true values are. What it is that we genuinely love spending our days doing or things to prioritise. The fast pace lifestyle sold to us continues to prevent you from deciding what is actually in alignment with your needs and how to prioritise your authentic needs. Let me make it easier for you to turn lemons into lemonade! Reduced soical media and include more playful/enjoyable activities in your day. What are your current priorities? How have they been formed? Are they truly yours or that of others and society? Communicate your needs and priorities to those in your life. Dedicate time to the above. Scheduale it out in your days or week. Make the commitment to yourself. 16. Why societal ideals of health and beauty influence your food behaviours and self-worth.
Hi there honey! This week I am feeling extra sassy. Mostly because I have a lot of thoughts around this particular topic. There is a space for all foods in our diet. It is my current standing perspective, that actually, food it's self it not necessarily the problem when it comes to health. Weird right? Yet, I have come to realise for majority of my clients, audience, family, friends and the general population, nutrition isn't the core problem. I don't even align with the definition of "health". Wild, considering I am a "health professional". I strongly believe we all have a very unique blue print that makes up our health. With 100s of variables and contributions over time. So Em, what is the problem? Societal ideas of beauty and health have significantly impacted generations of people and the way they see themselves. How you feel you "should" or "shouldn't" eat, look, weigh and exercise. Today, social media is amplifying these beliefs, unrealistic perfection promoted with filters, angles, lighting, make up and photoshop. Comparison, we are even sub-consciously chasing the perfect house, car, morning routine, aesthetically pleasing breakfast, perfect relationship, trending clothes and the list is endless. We never feel that we have "enough" or that we are doing "enough" to be seen as "enough". News flash - YOU ARE ENOUGH. Right here, Right Now! None of this is realistic. Not even for the people pretending to live these lives. Or promoting quick fix "healthy" products, diets and meal plans. Behind closed doors, there are many realistic aspects of health that need to be explored. Find what is sustainable and unique to you. This week, I am going to tell you why. Hey Honey! (Language warning). This week I interview my girl Millie Padula who helped me to create the beginnings of OFTH! We start with sharing our reason for starting our community at "One For The Honey" and the journey we went through when things didn't go to plan. Tune in to find out Millie's start up story, her passion for helping others thrive while pushing against the grain and her decision not to pursue the podcast at OFTH. Millie is a giant cheerleader for myself and hundreds of other professionals she crosses paths with. Her leadership and mentoring at Dietitian Edition and Edition Education is ground breaking. I am sitting on the edge of my seat to see how her platforms and empire grow with the impact she continues to make. We discuss feelings of imposter syndrome, failure and judgement when navigating careers, no matter which stage you are at! The truth is, even the most successful people in the world experience self-doubt along the way! This episode is full of insightful content and most importantly is raw, authentic and vulnerable as we share our story. Truth be told, in our friendships true form, Millie and I spent about 4 hours trying to get this episode completed. We shared a wine, countless giggles and unhinged humor that was not quite fit for the epsiode. However!! You might just get a taste of the bloopers that showcase our friendship and potential of every episode if we had continued this journey as a duo. Hello Sweet Honey! Ever felt alone in your business? Or unsure of where to start? Or overwhelmed with all the moving pieces that you need to put into place,to get your dream business off the ground? Where in your life can you create more ease and flow by building a new friendship? By building a new business partnership or a new collaboration that helps you to either excel in your career, to take the next step in your business, to take the next step in your relationship. How is it that you can support yourself through community? This episode is all about, creating community and cheerleaders, watching how quickly you can make an impact, not just doing it on your own, but actually connecting with others and like minded people that have a similar vision or values to you and want to jump on board. Today I want to share with you the community that I've created, the cheerleaders that I've connected with, that have helped me bring One For The Honey into fruition. There are a few real key players that I need to highlight today, before we get into the episode. Then, I want to peel back a few layers about community, connection and our fundamental need as humans, but also how community kind of shows up in the online space and in the the face to face space. I definitely overshare, but it often opens the doorway for people to be open with me and to feel safe, to share themselves, to get something off their chest, to have a realization. And that power is just magnified through community, when there's more people in the room doing the work.
