Conversations with my Mom: Single Motherhood, Taking the High Road and Finding Forever Love
In this episode, I interview my mom, Christine, about her experience as a single mom and finding love again. Christine shares her journey of raising three daughters as a single mom and the challenges she faced. She also discusses the importance of self-care and surrounding yourself with positive people. The conversation highlights the power of resilience, faith, and the belief that everyone deserves love and happiness. Takeaways Being a single mom is a challenging but rewarding experience. It requires resilience, hard work, and putting your children's needs first. My mom demonstrated this in so many ways but especially in always taking the high road and never talking poorly of others. Finding love again after a divorce is possible. It's important to take the time to heal and be ready for a new relationship. Advice from Christine: it's okay to end a date early if theres no connection be intentional listen to red flags! Self-care is crucial for mental and emotional well-being. Taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, and socially is essential for a happy and fulfilling life. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people is key. Building a strong network of friends and loved ones who uplift and inspire you is important for personal growth and happiness. It's the January of it All- Combating Seasonal Blues and Why I Cold Plunge
I start off by giving myself a few personal plugs to help support the podcast!! Merch purchases = proper podcast production :) *Say you heard about this through the episode and you'll receive a self love bundle! Head to my Instagram or Linktree Purchase a curated yoga flow Icepod discount Enter the Chat form Collab with Kassidy: Monday Meditation & Movement In this episode I show off just how cool it is to talk about mental health. From experience and intense research, I offer insight as to what anxiety and seasonal depression might feel like. Anxiety examples: rapid heartrate sweating tremors worry, fear GI issues, headaches overthinking/analyzing poor concentration irritability SAD/ Seasonal Affective Disorder/ Seasonal Depression "Blues" prolonged sadness loss of appetite or sleep, or opposite lethargy, low energy, sluggish loss of interest in activities feeling hopeless or worthless unable to label feelings at all I explain causes for these seasonal low moments; less sunlight leading to disruption in circadian rhythm, lowered serotonin and melatonin levels. These three changes in the body can trigger depression and irregular patterns in sleep and mood. Then, I offer ways to combat any seasonal change in the mind or body; Get sunshine, bundle up and go outside Drink more water Eat warming whole foods Cleaning out spaces Talk to someone/ start therapy Affirmations I will bask in this time for transformation. I feel strong and resilient through any and all change. I am giving myself permission to rest when I need it. Give yourself grace and compassion for little things getting out of bed completing a task socializing Less scrolling!! Alli also tapped in to the conversation to help me summarize the Mental Makeover Plunge this past weekend. We shared how amazing it was to see such a huge crowd out for a mental health cause. In addition, we expressed the comfort in seeing community and plunging with others. I discuss my own experiences with cold plunging over the past year, the major benefits and how to get started. If you want to purchase an IcePod click here. You can also begin by setting the shower on cold for 10 seconds and just like plunging work your way up to 1-3 minutes.
