    Special Ed Rides Again (Intro to Periodization)

    A couple weeks off from the Ed series, but we it's back. This week we start to delve into the fun stuff a little more with intro to Periodization. Periodization, while tough to type repeatedly, is a fairly straight forward concept. We set up some vocabulary and some basic concepts so that we can come back in the next few Fridays and really get into how and why to design your cycle plan. This is one of the biggest concepts in programming training for powerlifting and for athletes. We will look at why some sports like strongman and Crossfit could stand to incorporate more of this.     Special Ed Series: Episode 4 Levers and Intro to Biomechanics

    All off schedule this week. Wednesday, Saturday, we are just slinging episodes. This is part 4 of the Ed Series. This is a tough one. We introduce human biomechanics through discussing levers. We don't delve too deep into lever physics, but focus on how it applies in the body to move the musculoskeletal system, and how small changes in individual anatomy can have affects. This is by no means comprehensive, but an intro to the concepts of biomechanics. If you are taking a Crossfit certification, strength and conditioning course, or are looking to become a personal trainer this info may help you pass your exams. Be sure to review previous episodes in this series for information on muscle structure and basics on the neuromuscular system.
